    As a home owner with an oil tank, who has runout while awaiting a delivery (left it too late), this looks very useful. A shame the industrial design of the wall plug in monitor look like it’s from 1992. Plus it’ll be good to have the app connect USB dongle and the wall monitor integrated into one smart device. Knowing how messy it’s going it look in the utility room, is seriously holding me back from this amazing solution. Thanks as always James - Hold Tight!

      I ha e just gone out and checked the tank, I check it regularly, but now I’ve seen this video I noticed something. There is a Watchman Anywhere Sonic Oil Level screwed into the top.
      Must have been left from the previous owner, it’s looking tiered but will give it a refurb and see how it goes.

    Nice one James, we moved to a house that runs off oil and having never lived in such a property I had no idea how it all worked 😩. When we moved in the boiler wouldn't fire up and yes, you guessed it, we called out a plumber only to find out the tank was empty (what a plonker 🤔). Anyway, we got the boiler serviced, filled the tank and all is well. We also eventually found the tank gauge plugged into a socket in a cupboard, but it looks a bit ancient so I may invest in one of these units to bring us up to date.

    at the moment I'm using a large stick to measure the level because the original watchman with the crappy 4 level lcd Indicator stopped working a long while ago. you can buy the flow meters too which are more accurate at measuring consumption. I've got a 1237ltr tank and an old trusty danesmoor 15/19 heatslave.

    Big caveat is the fact that it’s not instant reading hence when you fill up the tanks, you have to guess wether it’s full or not!

    I bought a SENSiT system to upgrade my Sonic. Rather disappointed. There is only a very limited number of tanks to select. My DESO H1800BT was not on the list and I can't get the internal dimensions to manually create the tank. If you add a tank, you can't delete it! The product will, in time, be excellent but it needs some development. I would wait a while for Kingspan to develop the product.

    • @Murtagh7484

      I just bought one. It's still shite. Had it 7 days now installed and its given one single ''good reading'' it's been a year since your comment and by the look of my sensit they've upgraded nothing.

      @user-kx6wt7ql3y Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@Murtagh7484 total rubbish, doesn't give you the quantity in a cylindrical tank laid flat just treats it as an upright one, hence the quantity you are reading is totally irrelevant, its just sensing the level, the only point it will be accurate is at the midway point, stopped working altogether after a few months,,,,,,, just stick to dipping the tank now

  • @IM35461
    @IM35461 Před 2 lety

    I am not sure if they are all like this but my USB module looses the tank transmitter serial number and WiFi details if there is a power cut and has to be setup again. The unit seems to have no non volatile memory to save the settings.
    You do get a reading once a day on no annual subscription cost. Also I have noted the tank level reading only changes every few days depending upon consumption and the shape of the tank / versus oil level.

    HI, I moved into a property a few months ago and have just found our tank has a red Watchman oil tank alarm, but we dont have the plug in device with the bars that indicate oil height. Is it possible to just purchase the USB device and pair this with the red watchman? I dont really want the 1980 looking wall plug thing, happy just to have the USB and mobile app

    James, First time oil user. Moved into a house with previous style of Watchman. Be careful to check the gasket on the sender unit. Mine had water in it from a pinched up gasket. They are horizontally split with no water run off. Really poor design. Looks like the later one is horizontally split too?. Also I think you need to form a relationship with your oil tank. They get lonely. I’m going back to a dipstick as there is no harm in going to the tank 4 times a year to check things over and look for leaks from that awful bowl filter. I would really like a sight tube like on my steam engine with its own isolating cock, but no doubt the man with the clip board would write me letters. If you choose to live in The Boonies with no gas, then don’t hanker after this WiFi + smartphone lifestyle. Just going to unglue the latest Protester .....

    Bought the kingspan sensit. Been installed for 7 days now and only read the level of the tank once. Its a very poor piece of kit. I bought it for 153e on the strength of this vid... dipping a stick in the tank is way faster and a much more reliable method for checkin the oil level.

    Just bought a replacement Kingspan oil tank with that exact same tank connections … the oil line connection at the bottom is designed for the fuel line to connect end on, ie, in the same direction of the connection fitting itself, but my existing oil line connects at 90 degrees. Is there an additional 90 degree connector I can buy to save having to do a 90 degree bend on my copper pipe? Cheers, Michael
