      Real. I need Peter to do another movie. Anything. I mean for heavens sake we need him to take over the rings of power. If filming style is somthing else. It adds a mood that brings more life to the movie. The rings of power lacks that and the show itself is bland and flavourless.

      @timlamiam Před 10 lety +14

      Aqua Pony I don't want a Silmarillion movie. They would have to modify it sooo much to make it watchable. The main thing about it is that there was never a main protagonist, only separate tales of different heroes, and many of these heroes would war and squabble with one another, making it pretty hard to follow if not in book form; especially consider that the events of the Silmarillion span about 5 thousand years, if not more. It would be impossible for the chronology to make sense on film without changing the story drastically, at which point it won't be the Silmarillion. PLEASE don't touch Silmarillion, PJ.

    • @MrBallsworth69
      @MrBallsworth69 Před 10 lety +11

    Having now seen the movie twice, I can say that the score really plays a great part in setting the tone. Right from the beginning and when "The Desolation of Smaug" is shown on the screen you can tell the danger has really been turned up in this film. As always...great work to Peter and all of those associated with the film.

  • @argoth83
    @argoth83 Před 10 lety +40

    Great to see one of these focusing on the music. For me, it's always been one of the most important things in any film. While acting and visuals are big ones, obviously, music sets the tone for scenes and brings the environment to life somehow. You notice when the score cuts out. The instrumentals in these movies have always impressed me. That's some talented composing with a damn good orchestra to play it.

    That title card shot with the music is fantastic! When I saw the movie last week that one shot with the purple sky and the darker music just set the tone of the film for me and really was an incredible shot. The music in this couldn't be any more different to An Unexpected Journey but it has a darker more urgent feel with a lot of thematic pieces that recur through the whole soundtrack. I was especially impressed with the music and its use in the movie especially the scenes near the beginning and the ones at Dol Guldur. I'm going to see it again in IMAX tomorrow and I bet it'll sound great on IMAX speakers. Another fantastic production blog peter. It is really great that you dedicate your time in the busy filming periods to make these. Few moviemakers keep fans as appraised during the movie-making process as you do and you should be commended for that sir!

    What I found to be a little odd, was that the main theme of the first movie (which was based on the Dwarwe's Misty Mountains) was completely absent in the second film... I really liked that tune, and thought it was going to be the main theme throughout all three films, just like there had been ONE main theme song (you know which one I'm talking about) going throughout the whole of the LOTR-films...

    • @niclasstenbergrannali152
      @niclasstenbergrannali152 Před 10 lety

      I felt the same, but if you actually think about it, in this movie, there's really no place where that theme would have actually really fitted in. It's not just optimal to have it in this movie :P

    • @austink.5827
      @austink.5827 Před 10 lety

      yonythemoony1 Not to burst your bubble, but the Durin's folk theme is actually not from LOTR, it's new.

    • @formerdave94
      @formerdave94 Před 10 lety +1

      Niclas S I agree, but the main theme song goes through fight scenes, as well as "landscape scenes" (in which there are, however, few in, in part 2) .. . Examples of "fighting-versions" of "misty mountains" can be found in the first movie, when the company fights the trolls
      So I assume they COULD have fitted the general tune into the second part if they wanted to, but I dont quite see why they didn't... I loved it :)

      indeed,i like alot of the hobbit,but compared to the lord of the rings,the cgi was a bit too..cartoony,felt more like a kids story then a legit one. Good locations,good writing,great music...but that just reduced my rating by quite a bit.
      For example,the uruk hai in the lord of the rings looked like deadly savage beasts that wanted nothing more then to taste manflesh,it was a serious story . While the hobbit takes a more comedic aprouch.
      there was like 1 time when i felt goosebumps in the movie,while alot of scenes of the lord of the rings gave them (arrival of elfs at helms deep,epic battle of helms deep,minis tirith and my favorite...the charge of the rohirrim),those really put you on the edge and gave you joy when backup arrived the last second to turn the tide of the bloody battle!

    • @timpan0
      @timpan0 Před 8 lety +1

      U nailed it! The battle of the five armies is a good example of not poor animation but still animation vs reality. The orcs was real and felt, as u said, dangerous and bloodthirsty. Well i guess that the directors take the "animated" chance before making it "real". You got me?

      haha, I think when You are Howard Shore it is easy enough. ;) Theres a video somewhere that shows how Howard Shore writes down the score whilst reading the original book. He's incredibly talented.

    A good conductor is not someone who makes a performance. A good conductor is someone who actually releases a performance from all the great individuals that are in the orchestra.

    It'd be awesome if they continued Middle earth movies, Not following books but off cannon stories. Make it a huge universe to explore, they're doing that with star wars now and look at the game Shadow of Mordor! That opened up a whole new side to the orks i never knew.
    It'd be awesome if a movie Executive reads this, Middle earth is needed!
    P.s Tell warner bros to buy New Zealand aswell, it might help

    This video blog probably made me the happiest so far, since I'm a huge music nerd. I just got the soundtrack last night and seeing how it was made and all the people who helped make it just makes it sound even more gorgeous.

    I have watched most of your movies..... those are really spellbound!! I am completely blown away by the artistic superiority, your magnificent treatment of the subject and larger-than-life cinematic appeal. You, James Cameron and Steven Spielberg are the real trinity of movie-making which make people go to the theatres vs video rentals. Hats off to you.... Planning to find a nanny ASAP to watch my kid while I can enjoy Desolation of Smaug on HFR 3d :)
