The heartbreaking thing for the blogs is that Peter was actually very tired every day because he had to rush making the movie . He often slept little. Yet, he was still putting a smily face to bring joy to us instead of depression.
The whole ideology behind modern day grind to make is horrible for your average person, never mind your high level professionals. Jackson was already stretched thin with other films and projects, and no amount of money was worth what he and a lot of the crew endured to make the second trilogy. When they did LotR, yes it was stressful, yes it was frantic, but they had almost 3 years of preproduction and development. All of del Toro's initial work on the two planned hobbit films was thrown out, and WB very much threatened to pull the Hobbit from NZ if Peter didn't step up and direct and embrace the film creations with little to no preproduction time to make the now trilogy of hobbit films match what had been stylistically accomplished in the LotR. I speak to this having worked in the creative field as an illustrator/designer, and part time voice actor, that got burned out by the insane bs that larger companies will lay upon people just to get something done so that the COMPANY benefits. No regard for mental health, personal needs, or even anything more than ROI and bottom line accountants snapping whips to make things make money. Peter is an amazing professional, as are everyone else that worked on those 6 movies, but the last three showed what can happen when monetary gain overwhelms good decisions.
Even if people don't like the movies, these blogs were fantastic to watch. They really offer a look into how a movie is made while it's still in progress, and introduces us to all the amazing people working on it. It all seems like a very friendly and fun atmosphere. Too bad Warner Bros. had to step in and interfere with the production. Can't the studios just leave the filmmaking to the actual filmmakers?
Agreed. You have to admire what he was able to achieve given the interference and having zero pre production for his own vision after Del Toro left. It’s a near impossible task to do.
Also I have the feeling that many more people than its said actually like the movies...after all their ratings on imdb, a notoriously hard to please audience, are all in the mid to high 7s.
