Nerd, you (and I assume family) must have really enjoyed the in depth showing of everything there. So cool. Hope you all enjoyed your NZ travels. Great work.
Dude, I am so happy for you, your cheeks must have hurt by wearing a big ol grin all day just for being there 😂
DUDE!!!
It is definitely one of the things on my bucket list.🪣📜
When did you go? I have one booked for next year
One of the coolest things to be put on this planet. Being able to have a slice of middle-earth in real life is incredible!
Go to Wood Green in London after dark it’s like being in Mordor
,,👍
The place every nerd should have on their bucket list.
should have? I already am planning on going!
,,👍
The amount of money needed to go there. Flights to New Zealand would be crazy as it is, and the making your way there. But I hope to visit here at some stage.
It's amazing! One of the days in Kiwi Land! Highly recommended!
@@Klynch111all to stare at empty facades of buildings you've already seen in better context.
I don't understand tourism. "Omg I saw the Mona Lisa in person, and it only cost $7,000 to get here."
Just Google image search what you want to see
I've asked my girl to marry me infront of Bag End just 2 weeks ago! 💍
Best day of my life, what a place 😍
Congratulations, friend! May your marriage be the greatest adventure of your life.
@@BillyBobBeauBenson Thanks yes it is the start of an epic adventure 😁
She was the second most beautiful thing you saw that day lmao
you must be kidding. Are you hobbit?
,,👍
Blue skies, green flora, high fluffy white clouds - you went on the right day!
It was absolutely perfect!
Allman Brothers is the first thing I thought of reading the initial words, as an American, and guitarist, I couldn't help it😂
Good on you guys to show the grounds crew in action. You could argue it breaks immersion, but those are the people who keep Hobbiton looking lush and alive. They deserve the representation.
I'm sad that Tolkien couldn't see this incredible permanent set during his life. Would have been amazing to see his reaction
It is said, he would not have liked the movies. But maybe he would have liked this. On the other hand, he hated Disney, because of the dumbing down of ancient fairytales.
Omg me and my wife CACKLED when you reenacted Bilbo’s “I’m going on an adventure!” 😂😂😂 we love it.
The pure joy. 😂❤
Dude is living his best life right now. Honestly, everytime I watch a video about Hobbiton, my stress level just washes away. This is a sign that I NEEEED to go visit one day (and never to return perhaps)
wellington is even better to explore. I got chased out of Stone Street studios haha.
I visited Hobbiton 2 months ago and I can tell you it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. When I first saw it with my own eyes I started crying
,,👍
You need a holiday, a very long holiday. You don't expect that you shall return, in fact you mean not to...
@@ericcrilley8871 ........... and he lived happily ever after.
The pub is two minutes from the Gamgees', but it's fifteen minutes back home. The difference is staggering.
Easily one of the best places in the whole world🔥🔥
No doubt about it!
But fake.

@@AdDewaard-hu3xk😂 you think new zealand is fake?
,,👍
So envious, as I'll likely never get there. But I'm just so glad it exists. I'm nearly 65 yrs. old and I've loved Tolkien's stories since I was 12. Just to see this place on film or in videos is awesome!
,,👍
So privileged that we have a small piece of middle earth to visit for generations to come! What a remarkable movie set, the attention to detail is mind-blowing! ❤
,,👍
So jealous! My dream vacation. So glad they kept the set from the movie and made into something that everyone can enjoy especially LOTR fans
I live in Hamilton, just up the road, and had a couple of German backpackers staying with us one time, and they were desperate to go to Hobbiton, so we took them along. Went to the Green Dragon, and Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan were serving drinks!
Best thing I’ve seen on CZcams in a long time.
I were there in january, and my guide overheard me talking about this youtube channel and told me that you were there the day before. Great place!
,,👍
Luke is a great guide.
He was first class!
Thank you so much for this film; for those of us who may never get the chance to visit but are true fans. 🙏
,,👍
Much appreciation to Hobbiton Movie Set and Red Carpet Tours for letting you film and post this to everyone. Marvelous!
I'm so glad New Zealand has been able to continue to make the making of these movies beneficial to the locals. so often movies seem negative/blightish to the areas they are made
Let's hope Peter Jackson will figure out a way to show the Shire in his upcoming Hunt for Gollum film. 🤞
I had a huge smile on my face the entire time I watched this. One day my wife and I will visit!
I had a huge smile on my face the entire time I was there! It is the most wholesomely immersive place I've ever been to. Simply magical!
,,👍
I’m a kiwi and love my nation. I still get amazed by the beauty of this country and the creativity of our culture
I was lucky enough to go there this last year, and it was incredible. Not only is the hobbiton set fantastic, but the whole area for miles around truly feels like the shire. It's nothing but rolling green hills and sheep farms for miles around. Truly a magical place.
and you get to feed the animals!
If I ever win the lottery these folks are going to be able to build all of the shire. This is amazing.
The shire is *huge.* The movies kind of made it look like it was just Hobbiton, but the whole shire is about the size of New Hampshire and Vermont (U.S. states, in case you're from elsewhere) put together.
,,👍
Last year I did a world voyage that literally circumnavigated the globe, but one of my best memories was Hobbiton in NZ. It was magical. Lucky you that you got to see the hobbit homes - it was just the movie set when I was there. Good excuse to go back. Amazing.
Absolutely stunned by the level of detail that has gone into the set. It's wonderful that the keepers have gotten to continue working on it over the decades to flesh out more and more of the parts we don't ever see on screen and turn it into an actual museum of a fictional world. If we could only have more of theses kinds of living art projects to experience.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
I had tears in my eyes as you brought us through the Proudfoot home. I saw this video right after my six year old daughter fell asleep. I had re-read part of Lothlorien to her before she drifted off. We started reading The Hobbit when she was 4 and started LOTR on her 5th birthday. It took us a year and 2 weeks to complete the story. We frequent this channel and others for Silmarillion background. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with me. I am hesitant to share any information about the love of my life, but let me just drop this hint: it's no coincidence her name shows up in the story.
"Geography" videos of middle earth are my favorite, thanks for sharing with us...
I'd have to spend many days visiting the Hobbiton set. So many details to enjoy and different plants to appreciate! Thank you for a video that I'll watch repeatedly.
I used to work here & it's still the best job I've ever had! Luke is wonderful 💜
Lmao "I'M GOING ON AN ADVENTURE!!!" You certainly did! How beautiful
I can personally recommend sitting in that armchair in the Green Dragon and musing, 'it's no business of ours what goes on beyond our borders. Stay out of trouble and no trouble will come to you.'
An epic way to enjoy being a dork.
Luke says we trust our guests to respect this place. My man proceeds to touch everything and points out nothing is glued down. Haha 😄 great video!
Best tour of Hobbiton !
3:20 "Proudfeet!!"
Ha! Wow, man. This was special and infectious. We can't all afford to get down there to visit it ourselves (maybe one day), and so thank you for taking us on this special tour. You deserve it Matt, especially after all the hard work you put into this channel. Love it!
If I ever get there,I won't be coming back. 🇺🇸
When I saw that this was a 40-minute video, I was a bit concerned. And yet, nothing has brought me into the world of Tolkien like this video and related tour. I have been to New Zealand twice but never took the time to visit any of the movie areas. Now I cannot wait to take my family and share in this tour. My idea for adding on a hotel component to Hobbiton is now even more compelling. What Tolkien lover would pay a handsome amount to stay a few nights in a Hobbit hole. Have daytime games, dinner at the Green Dragon, and an evening celebration for someone’s 111th birthday.
,,👍
When i travel to New Zealand at some point, this is the first place i'm heading to
Thanks for the great tour! My daughter went to New Zealand last year with a friend of hers that lives in Melbourne, Australia. She didn't go to Hobbiton and I'll never let her forget it! I sent her a link to this video so she can see what she missed. I guess the new habitats weren't open when she was there, but still....
This place is one of the most beautiful places i have ever had the good fortune to see not only hobbiton itself but all the surrounding area. I loved it so much i went twice on two different trips. New zealand is breathtaking from top to bottom
Thanks for the non-shaky, well edited, throughout video. I have been wanting to see a video like this for a long time.
Its insane the amount of craftsmanship has to go in making of all of that
It always was this most beautiful thing. And it will only grow, becoming more beautiful and immersive every decade, or so.
I'm lucky enough to live not far away from Hobbiton and even in mid winter when it's cold, damp and foggy in New Zealand this place is always kept in immaculate condition and seems like a far away land. Such a neat place to visit. So nice to visit on a sunny warm day and finish up with a cold beverage!
,,👍
Stopped by while honeymooning (from US) in 2013, well worth it! Many memories made, no smoke from chimneys then but able to take pictures everywhere and ended with an ale at the Green Dragon. Kiwis are the best!
This is one of the most beautiful and amazing things I’ve ever seen. Even the filming and cinematography is outstanding. It feels like I’m watching home and I’ve just been away for a while even though I’ve never been there. I feel that’s how everyone feels thanks to the wonderful magic that the set designers bring. Thank you Matt for sharing this wonderful video!
As a huge middle earth fan, this is amazing. Ty for visiting and sharing your experience!
FINALLY THE VIDEO WEVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
I was so lucky to take a magical two week trip to New Zealand with my husband in April, and the afternoon we spent in Hobbiton was so magical beyond belief. We're massive fans, and knew we'd love it no matter what, but weren't sure if it would feel cheesy or like a tourist trap! It is the most lovingly done, immersive place. We were also lucky enough to have gorgeous blue skies and sunshine when we went, and it was a massive highlight on our trip. I think we went not too long after you did, and it was so fun seeing your trip unfold on Instagram as we were preparing for our own!
The Hobbit was always my favourite of the books just for the peaceful village. 💖
The sheer amount of detail in everything that was never even shown on screen is just incredible.
I was crying watching this, seeing all of the details and just how much work was put into it. I think I know what my first out of country trip is going to be. Thank you so much!
I’ve wanted a video like this for years. A really nice in-depth look. The attention to detail is mind blowing.
i was there the first time in 2005 before The Hobbit, before they rebuilt the place. It was amazing, you could go into Bag End or walk up the Party Tree.
This is incredible!!! I’ve always had that on the bucket list!! running through the shire shouting “I’m going on an adventure” doing exactly as you did…the look on your face said it all!! I can imagine it was a true adventure the whole trip! Excellent video! I’m definitely visiting in a few years!
Outstanding video. I had heard about it, but never thought the place would offer such a rich and in depth experience to the visitors. They did an amazing job. And you also did an amazing job at taking us along for a visit. One of the best videos I've ever seen on CZcams. Great work. This channel rocks.
Oh and I also want to underline the outstanding work of the person(s) who were holding the camera. It really made a difference and made the viewer feel like like they were there the whole time. Superb work!
Look at how excited he is to be there. What a NERRRRD!!!!
Love your channel dude❤
Thanks Matt for sharing this amazing tour with us. What an incredible job they've done re-creating Hobbiton. This was a really fun video to watch.
37:06 they've even got the Old Boffin's stainless mithril shelves and microdragon cooker in the back! Incredible 😝
OMG! This was so refreshing! Just imagine how cool it would be to work there daily! I wish I could relocate to Hobbiton for the rest of my life!
This is far more enjoyable than Rings of Power. I'll rewatch this again and again
Oh man! Words just don't equal it.
I love the fact that there are people there literally eating salads and food grown in Hobbiton ❤
My wife and I stopped by during our 2022 NZ vacation. I love how natural and real everything is, it puts DisneyWorld to shame. I highly recommend going on International Hobbit Day as its a huge party with hundreds of people dressed up in full LotR cosplay. It was a magical night.
This is one of my favorite videos now. I will never be there, but this video shows the magic of this place. Faithful to the source material makes this place amazing. Thank you so much for making this video!
I've been following Luke on Instagram for awhile now and so cool to see a guided tour with him. What an amazing experience!
What is his IG I’d love to follow him after seeing this!

I'm glad you got to experience thiss. It all looks so lovely! The amount of details is insane!
I wanna go so bad! The whole fam would love it! What a special place
Watching this video is the next best thing to actually being there. Thank you so much, Matt, this is awesome!
OMG !!!! I could live there for REAL
Someone out there holds the job of maintaing this beautiful place; how I envy them!
Visited Hobbiton about 10 years ago on my honeymoon! Visited the Green Dragon and had a pint with Pickles the cat!!! Greatest trip of my life, also the longest flight, lol. Totally worth it!!!
Doubtful I’ll ever make it out that way so this is truly amazing to see. Thank you much for sharing
Hi there from Nelson, New Zealand. This is one of the best things I've ever seen on CZcams, well done. Subscribed.
This village is probably one of the greatest art pieces in the world. I truly hope I can see it with my own eyes sometimes. The level of love and care that went into this is just unreal
I read all the books in the 80s I never dreamed a movie could be made on something that huge.
Epic!! Excited to see the Wētā workshop tours too 🎉
Really enjoyed this. makes me want to watch the original series again.
Great vid! My wife and I were just there at the start of this month. Just magical!
This is the Hobbiton tour to rule them all. Thanks for that, it was amazing ! Next best thing to being there in person :-)
This is my bucket list! I love that you got to experience this 🔥🔥
Love it love it love it!!!
TOTALLY loved this! Thank you so much for sharing this. Definitely on my bucket list to see this. You ROCK man!
My first trip abroad was to new zealand, I was so gigty aka excited while on this tour, our tour person gifted me with a replica leaf from the tree of bag end.
Its a bucket list item for my wife and i to go to new zealand and see Hobitton. Original trilogy is our favorite movie series, hands down
*AMAZING* *CATER*
Fantastic ❤. I didn't have a bucket list, now I do.
I am dying. This man has accomplished my biggest dream.
Love the family tree and the study as well. Damn, I wish I had a study with a dragon toenail, lol
What a gorgeous place. I want to retire there some day. If only!
Greatest Set in human history
This place is incredible. I love it so much. ❤
New Zealand is awesome
Lotr scene builders: lets put this flower that Tolkien mentions that no one will even realize is here.
Amazon on rings of power: the greatest blacksmith since Fëanor doesn't know about alloys.
This is a fantastic video tour.
Omg Luke was the guy who did my tour of hobbiton he wad so cool
"if it's blue it's not for you" 😂
But it is for me 🤫
I only live about 75 miles from Hobbiton, but have never been there, mainly due to science fiction being my genre, rather than fantasy. However, your video has opened my eyes as to what I'm missing, so I'll have to make an effort to visit it someday!
Thank you for taking us along on this tour. I absolutely would love to go to New Zealand and see Hobbiton in person and other film sites and the grandeur beauty of the country, but alas I know I'll never get to see any of it in person. Love from central Texas ❤
I dont know if i would get new zealand visa and when i have littlebit money saved up , i dont know if id end up there anyway , Im from Europe and New Zealand long way from here.
