      Buckle up because you have one more game to go before Ubisoft plans to return to Creed based releases. Odyssey was the best release since Revelations, possibly even AC2. And apart from the absolutely ridiculous ending of AC Origins, it was an incredible game set in a wondrous time. And of the Pharaohs and the the Roman Republic. And the beginning of the Roman Empire. Wasn't the American accent on purpose? As in, it was meant to support some later plot point? Desmond asked Lucy about some of the characters talking uncharacteristically modern, and I think some of the developers at the time mentioned that there is much more to Altair's accent that they will explain later. I think Origins finally started to set up that original plot point, which either involved traveling back through time (they mention in AC1 that one of the Apples in Denver I believe is said to be capable of that) or otherwise manipulate the past through the animus.

    • @InhabitantOfOddworld
      @InhabitantOfOddworld Před 5 lety +134

      @@barkasz6066
      I believe, IIRC, that the American accent was merely a feature of Abstergo's current animus. While that system had other limitations, it's translation capabilities were second to none.
      The Assassin's animuses (animi?), while technically far superior, are far less capable at translation. I think lack of resources play into this; Rebecca is great with programming but she's hardly a multilingual.
      I think even AC2 explicitly stated this weaker functionality, allowing for Ezio's Italian accent as well as infrequent native words.
      We see this at play when Altaïr regains his native accent when living those memories in the Assassin's animus compared to the initial Abstergo one.
      The rest of the series then depicted the American saga, so English was the default, as it was in Syndicate, and Unity is unconfirmed since we don't know who the animus user is, nor who the animus belongs to.
      The only odd one out is Origins, since I think *technically* it's an Abstergo animus, but Layla performed much of her own updates and modifications that may have interfered since she, much like Rebecca, isn't multilingual nor a language expert and may have lacked the resources for such a translation capacity.
      TL;DR Altaïr has an american accent because the Abstergo Animus 1 is the most translation-advanced system to demonstrate the memories of a non-English ancestor.

    1) When asked if they regretted being an Assassin:
    Altair: How could I regret the only life I have ever known?
    Ezio: I do not remember making that decision. This life, it chose me.
    2) They both say "I have seen enough for one life" when reflecting on their sufferings and endless battles they endured as Assassins.
    3) About fighting for the truth:
    Altair: "There is no greater glory than fighting to find the truth."
    Ezio: "Fight to continue the search for truth, so that all may benefit."

    • @samdaniels2
      @samdaniels2 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @herovaneijk2790 Sure.
      The original voice actor Philip Shahbaz had such a unique and cool voice that the studio asked him to keep his original American accent because it was just "too cool". In Rev, they changed that completely and he sounds like a budget, cheap, corny Aladdin villain. With his ridiculously over the top shitty Syrian accent. So he is not Altair by voice. This is an issue in games because we tend to get attached to the voice actor, so when it changes it is horrible. A good example is another idiotic decision by Ubisoft when they changed Sam Fisher's voice in Splinter Cell, which everyone protested.
      Secondly, they changed his face. This may sound superficial, but drastically changing a characters appearance is never a good idea, because it doesn't feel like the same character. But in this case it was particularly bad, because Altair's face in AC1 looked badass, the one in Rev looked like a rat with a bit of pre-pubescent bumfluff on his lip. How are we supposed to believe that ugly rat looking mf is a badass legendary assassin?
      So they have changed his face and his voice, so he is basically a completely different person. It's like taking a beloved character in cinema and changing the actor, imagine having a new actor replacing RDJ as Iron Man, no one would like it.
      If they kept his face/voice from the first one I would have been fine with the story, but in yet another bad decision in the catalogue of shit decisions made by Ubisoft, they changed him for no damn reason at all. And it completely ruined my experience of ACR because Altair was always my favourite character.

    I think Altair knew Maria would die during that confrontation. He could see the future with the apple. Maria was shocked when he offered up the apple. Not to mention in the last scene, Maria asks what happens to their family. I think Altair purposefully didn't answer that question knowing what would happen. fl333r I'll concede that. I sort of assumed that by Maria asking about the future of their family, that it was implied that the apple was capable of showing such a thing. Not to mention, we're humans, as Altair. Even if he had the clairvoyance to know that she would perish there, he would likely attempt to alter "destiny" to prevent such a thing. It’s very incredible and wonderful how the six memory keys fits in the loose ends that were established in the initial Assassins Creed, considering we saw the arrogant and childish behavior of Altair at the start of that game. By Revelations, it elevated the immense wisdom, strength and conviction he demonstrates after the events of the first game.
