Learn the basics of setting up your Brother SE 400 Sewing Machine for embroidery so that you can get started on a new embroidery project! A simple tutorial on how to connect the embroidery foot, and embroidery unit to the sewing machine.
In this embroidery tutorial, Brother SE400 Embroidery Set up (Part 1), I will show you how to set up your machine for embroidery. We'll cover how to attach your embroidery foot and carriage, how to hoop your fabric for your embroidery project, and how to attach your embroidery hoop to your machine.

I personally use Embrilliance Software, which is easy to use and includes several fonts, and options for customization. You can also purchase add on software Alpha Tricks which gives you even more font options. But if you are just getting started, the Embrilliance Essentials should give you enough options. I got this machine for Xmas and I am totally lost. I see you are already threaded.. I can do the top bobbin thdread but I"m completely confused by the bobbin compartment thread and how that fits when you put the embriodery attachment (I did the embriodery foot already) Thanks

Hello I have SE-350 BROTHER"S is your Tutorial will work on my SE-350?.. Been looking for a tutorial but somehow nobody have tutorial for it ...thank you so much .
+Alicia Joyce I would thing the Brother SE350 is very similar to the SE 400. The SE 400 may just have a few more features or stitches. So I would the tutorial would fit in most instances. Hopefully it helps you. Thanks for visiting us.

Hi. I watched your Part 1 and part 2 video on the set up and it was very very helpful. I want to monogram the 3 initials for my daughters, and have been told I have to buy software to make the font bigger than what the machine comes with. Can you help me with what is best for this using the Brother SE400? Thank you SO much!!

What happens if I don’t use the little metal thing for the needle
I don't believe the embroidery function would work without the embroidery foot.
What size needle to use with embroidery?
At which point due you put the embroidery needle, since you state that the very first step is to put on the embroidery foot. Or can we use any needle?
Standard sewing machine needle is all I have ever used in my machine for embroidery.

glitterglamscrapper For regular embroidery you would use the white bobbin thread. When doing free standing lace embroidery, you would use the same color as upper thread.
My Brother S E 400 embroidery machine did not come with an embroidery foot. Can I use the sewing foot that came with the machine to embroidery?
Deborah Johnson No, you would need the embroidery foot to embroider with the embroidery hoop. It should have come with the foot.

I'm having trouble with the stitching and I'm wondering if my machine is defective. The machine runs as if it's stitching and there is nothing on the shirt. I have re-threaded and checked the bobbin and thread and both are fine. It also jams quite often when it does stitch and the stitching stays beneath the shirt surface and I have to cut it away from the bobbin case. Do you have any suggestions for what this could be? Thank you!
Unfortunately this is a matter of trouble shooting in most cases. Continue to check upper and lower threading, needle inserted correctly, tension, type of thread and needle. Referring to your sewing machine manual has a lot of valuable information. There are lots of resources online too. I am not a sewing machine expert, just use this machine for my crafts. It may be helpful to take it in for servicing, and tension set. I did that with mine last year, and it runs great!

@@michellemillington960 - often the issue is the needle when thread is not feeding properly. Try a new needle?

Do we use the double needle that came with the machine?
No. Just a standardl sewing needle, sized according to fabric you are sewing on. I have never used any specialized needle.
Can I use my own logo from a flash drive on this machine?
+Keondria Knox The machine works with a memory card or directly from the computer. Your logo design would need to be digitized before it could be embroidered.

+Keondria Knox Digitizing has a definite learning curve. Embrilliance Essentials has embroidery software, with their most advanced being Stitch Artist for digitizing. When I try to upload an image to my se425 it does not show an image so that I can select it.My drivers are updated. What am I doing wrong?
Since you posted your question a couple of weeks ago, hopefully your issue has been resolved. I don't have that same machine, and have never experienced that problem, so I am not sure why they aren't showing. Are you using the proper file format for the machine?
tlcinspirations I have used PES. No luck yet.
Also check to make sure you are not trying to upload a file too big for the machine. It can probably only handle a 4x4 design. Make sure your cable from computer to machine is plugged in securely. I really don't have any other suggestions, so maybe contact support for your machine.

could you fit a t-shirt in that machine?
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to embroider on a t-shirt with it. I have sewn large quilts with it.
