so here's the thing, I've had this sewing machine for over 3 years and I love it. I love it for sewing that is. I've only embroidered a handful of times and it did well but takes way too long to setup for embroidery, at least for me...I do love how it sews though.
This video was a sales pitch that did not tell you a lot of things. Let me complement what have been missing here: 1. The embroidery area is 4x4 inches no matter how big a hoop is used. The embroidery shown on the video is close to impossible to achieve, it was made from other machine and shown here. Yes you can embroider monogram on a T-shirt in a bigger area, but you will have to hoop and embroider one letter by another, and the maximum size for each letter is no bigger than 4x4. 2. With USB port you can have unlimited pattern blah blah... First of all, when you plug in the USB cable, nothing will happen. You need to connect the other end to a computer with the Internet access, which are not included, then you can download limited patterns from Brother web-site; but they are not free, you need to pay extra for it. 3. You can design your own pattern and use this machine to embroider. Yes, you can hand draw a graph or scan a picture for embroidering, but they won't fly into the machine by themselves. You need to use a piece of software to convert the graph or picture into computer files, the process is called digitizing. The software is not included in the machine,, you need to purchase separately, and they are not cheap. For Brother's digitizing software, it is many folds to the machine itself. And to learn it, you need to have the background of graphics software like Photoshop. 4. For machine embroidery, you need to change thread spool each time when there is a color change. Let' s say you want to embroider the portray of your love one, because there are 50 shade of grey, a human face may have 256 colors, that means you need to change the spool thread 256 times - a project requires weeks, if not months, of work and allows no mistakes. Therefore it has no realistic practical professional usage value. A professional embroidery machine has multiple thread holders that can handle a lot of colors without having to change thread spool, this machine is not one of them. At best, it can be used in a home occasionally just for fun. Pretty soon it will be put into closet to collect dust once you get tire of it.
Also I have the most recent version of photoshop and I know how to use it fine. Will I be able to digitize my designs in the program and have them embroidered as a patch design? I want to make patches like an american flag or California flag, are designs like these possible with this machine? Thank you and I hope to hear back from you

My SE 400 skips stitches from time to time. Now the tension appears to be off. Stitches too loose or too tight. The material bunches as if it were gathering. I've changed the kneadle, changed the bobbin, rethreaded and still no change. HELP!!

What is the largest embroidery that this machine can perform? For example, if I wanted to embroider the front or back of a shirt (chest area, or between the shoulder blades) is it capable of doing this, even if I were to load some editing software onto my Mac that breaks up a design into segments?
im above and beyond frustrated. I just purchased the se400 and I cant seem to figure out how to put images on it. The only software I have is the PE software that it came with but thats pretty much a video of the product. I hooked up my usb port to the se400 from my computer and nothing. Its showing that space is being taken but nothing is showing on the machine. Can ANYONE HELP.

Melissa Streed you have to get the se425 (I think those r the numbers) it's the exact same machine but with a bigger hoop. The 400 only does 4by4
