It's like i am hearing Metallica from a parallel universe.
I agree, It's like taking a time machine.
Very cool
Absolutely, "String Theory"
That means on this universe songs like maste of puppets sounds like nothing else matters
In the best universe, every song in existence is on Master of Puppets.
"Welcome Else Matters"
You should put the word “matters” in brackets.

@@criddlegakes2650 four minutes too long.
@@roddcayton6723 it doesn't feel too long to me. The Black Album is probably the last time Metallica knew how to write long songs

Your ability to copy Kirk's lead style is amazing.
Plot twist, this is undercover Kirk
@@StateOfMercury You're better than Kirk. Your chicken scratches are intentional, while his is due to sloppy playing.
@@aeons_light chicken scratches and other noises shouldn't be intentional and it doesn't matter how good of a player you are, they happen no matter what. it is a result of how you play the instrument man.
@@malakai.2025 Yup! I was mainly making a joke about how Kirk tends to play sloppy, so his solos have tons of chicken scratches and harmonics while Mercury plays the same parts much cleaner.

Imagine Metallica play this version live someday. And yes we all will know where that came from.
send this Version to metallica
Turning the chorus from major to minor scale is pure genius, it gives such a different atmosphere from the original!
In the mid 90's Metallica changed the secondary dominant A major in the chorus to an A minor extended cord.
Is fun to play around with extended options for this chorus. A minor add flat 9 or A minor 7 sus 4 are cool
@@ruledtrendy5066 which songs are you referring to specifically? I just want to see what you mean. I know most of their songs are in E minor. and they modulate up or down a whole step a lot.
@@ShockwaveZero I'm talking about nothing else matters.
On the album they play C major to A major (A major is a secondary dominant in E) but they changed it live to extended A minor chords
@@ruledtrendy5066 Ohhh I see gotcha. I thought you were comparing old metallica songs from master or justice to stuff off of load or reload.
@@ShockwaveZero lol, I just reread my original comment.
I was either very drunk or autocorrect has been up to it's mischief. That should be A minor add9.
A minor flat 9 would be a little too "spicy" there 😆
This bass tone is sooooo cliffish. I love it.
I'm not a fan of covers. Sometimes gold, often dust.
But this time, I'm very impressed. This cover deserves gold.
Great job, man.
I stopped listening to this song because it was the song of my ex wife and and myself. You just made me love this song again.

You, sir, are the Master of Remixes
State is drugs?
I really think that Metallica should give attention to the guys here in youtube who’re giving us some different aspects of metallica, at least sharing this beautiful mixing in their channel
Precisely this. I'm a big House and Techno fan and songs are ALWAYS getting remixed and re-released by other artists, some of the best and biggest tracks in the House and Techno scenes are in fact remixes which completely change the original songs, just like State Of Mercury has done here.
Its about time Metal starts introducing remixes into the scene to breath a breath of new life into it as well as into these old and legendary anthems.
If they released this back in 1986, it would be their biggest hit. It sounds awesome, beautiful work!
I don't think so. Remember, at that point, Metallica was still strictly a word-of-mouth band and was still one more album away from getting ANY radio time other than one or two songs at a time when the local radio station would have been airing the Z-ROCK broadcast from L.A. on a time delay for a few hours on late night Fridays. They had a slot on the show called Mandatory Metallica, and that was the only time we ever heard them on the air before ...AJfA. Not even at 2:30 A.M. during the week. As popular as they were becoming, they still hadn't broken through to actually being aired at any time of day when us metalheads would have been sleeping through class. I firmly believe that if this had made it onto MoP, it would have destroyed any and all credibility that they had built up in the thrash metal scene and quite possibly derailed the band's careers. If we wanted to hear music like this in '86, that's why they had BonJovi. But this song is completely devoid of any subject matter they were writing at the time; politics, drug use, death, suicide, war, injustice, violence, agression, anger, mysery, suffering, sorrow, madness, etc. Not trust. They weren't singing about trust in '86. That didn't happen unti '90.
It's definitely a great reworking of the song, just not '86 material. It's too polished, too clean, too radio friendly, too produced. No Metallica album should ever be produced more than A.J.f.A.
@@sped6954I agree
nothing else matters is their biggest hit though... The fact that it's a balad made it a big hit on the radio and with a broader audience
@@sped6954 🤓
Nope. It's utter nonsense garbage.
I can only imagine the amount of work put into this. Arrangements, effects, etc. Respect
Haha just a casual “thanks”

State of Mercury has lots of videos explaining how he gets specific sounds. Bryce Barilla does as well. In an interview with Andriy Vasylenko State explains how he does this too.
With great love for good music!

This is Metallica that Metallica has never written or played - freaky, yet very very cool. I dig it massively. It could be called Nothing Else Welcomes Home (Sanitarium).
If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought this was how metallica originally wrote and recorded it. Very well done!
SAME
Yea same here
Seriously dude your works are pure gold! This is like discovering Metallica again
imagine time travel back to 1985 when metallica recording mop and u gave them the black album from the future
This is away and much beyond perfection. This is a Metallica's best times worth new song, a thing not even themselves are capable. I cannot even begin to thank enough for this. Made my day entirely.
Damn that's talent
i totally feel the sanitarium vibes, like how the verse riff gets heavy before the chorus, and the solos after each chorus, and the thrashiness at the end. so cool
What if «Nothing Else Matters» was released with Cliff Burton alive.
i can’t imagine it being too different than how it came out. i’d like to think he would understand the message of the song and play more of the support role than his usual lead style, but what the hell do i know
That intro solo fucking rocked dude. I'm never a big solo person but this was sweet.
First minute - Very nice intro with very Orion-ish parts
Second minute - The vocals have become much more distant than they are on the black album, and James sounds slightly younger, although not as much as usual in your redos. The Pre-Chorus is very chord-laden and ThicC.
Third Minute - Ok the chorus hit woah. Very powerful, and reminiscent of Sanitarium. The Guitar solo afterwards furthers that feeling, which I think has been edited slightly as well. The drum fills are noticeably heavier and a second chorus brings in epic proportions
Fourth minute- The melodies are quite sad, not aggressive. Very like a couple of songs on master. The chorus with soft guitar is interesting, and although not expected seems quite likely. The build-up is a part of the Pre-Chorus, which I think is taken from the title track. Oh shet, there's thrash
Sixth minute - The thrash intro had a very interesting and off-camber fill which fitted nicely with Lars' style in the 80's. The following part is from Leper Messiah?
Seventh Minute - I'm not even gonna have to write and eighth. The song very well brings across master of puppets, even if James' vocals sound off. The layout and instrumentals all fit perfectly. Incredibly well done, Mercury! And what happened to Black Album Blackened?
Taking over for the two cents guy?
@@uome20bukz Nah just bored. I kinda cringed reading back on it ngl
Where's the fifth minute?
@@HowToDrinkWater101the real fifth minute is the friends we made along the way.
Damn. The way you adjusted james' vocal melody at 4:45, that's some good work man
My two cents:
This is pure art.
It's like discovering Metallica once again. Feels amazing!!!
This guy is literally incapable of making less than perfect remakes, keep it up man!
If Caught In A Mosh was on Kill Em All
Usually CZcams's "What if" videos get old very quickly. With this channel the story is different. Each and every time i love everything, ideas aren't repeative and the love and passion for creating these masterpices are overhelming.
Thanks for every video you are making. Hearing them It's like getting your youth energy back.
I'd love to see James or Lars reaction to some of these remix "What If" songs that are out there.
We'll I don't think James would react to this song like us I love these remixes cause this song is sentimental to James and Lars would be like how can I play that his drumming skills have diminished over the years
I'm hearing Orion, Master, Sanitarium and Matters in one song. My mind is blown, this is by far your best rework yet and I might like this version better than the original
Then the end it quickly goes to some kill em all hint.
There are so many hidden things (not that much actually lmao) that made this song much sicker than usual. Allow me to give my 2 Pesos.
0:56 - A newly written solo following the verse riff of the clean guitars
1:07 a soft but audible harmony on that descending scale
Also, realise that the vocals are now in double-take rather than single (the norm 'Tallica had back in their days)
4:45 the vocals are now in another key (actually caught me off guard LMAO) which makes this song much more natural.
I have no words for the final solos, they're amazing as it is. It wasn't ripped off at all, just played by heart to fit the hands of Krik Hammer.
The track, of course, was mostly inspired by Welcome Home (Sanitarium), but it wasn't *HEAVILY* reworked following the structure and arrangement on that song as well (be it either on Nothing else matters or sanitarium).
What makes this a unique masterpiece is that you were able to put yourself in the shoes of the band themselves. You were able to write down new riffs and pieces that sound so much different than its inspired originals and made a ballad song into a heavy and boiling song, and that's what makes you the very best reworker out here. \m/
From one maestro to the other. The both of you are making us Metallica fans so happy. Really thankful to the both of you. Cheers!

how in the gods name this doesn't has million of likes??? this is the best cover in the history of covers
I always come back to this one. The way you made Nothing sound like Sanitarium hits in a way I don't think anything else does. It fits amazingly well
It’s more a combination of the the 3/4 E minor part of Orion and Welcome Home (Sanitarium). The first part is inspired Orion and the thrash part is based on Sanitarium. Pretty awesome.
Nice use of the “feel” of the middle section of “Master of Puppets” as well as “Orion”.
tbh I love this version a lot more than the original, the mood is so much more brutal
From a soft power ballad to Justice-like heaviness!
Nothing Else Matters (Sanitarium)
Um...I'm speechless. That was incredible. Those last few minutes, you folks were like, 'Fuck it, lets just have fun with it!"
last time I was this early I was young and idealistic
4:46 - 5:00 I really love how intense & emotional this part sounds like.
I recently had a dream I went to another dimension where Cliff was still alive, and I listened to the black album. Unfortunately I don't remember all of it (actually I only really remember Enter Sandman), but I'm sure Nothing Else Matters probably sounded sort of similar to this

I decided to comment after listening to you reading the comments and this song got criticized??? This was like listening to a MetallicA song for the first time. First I thought it would be an instrumental, but the way you mixed this song is truly a masterpiece. The Welcome Home (Sanitarium) part gave me chills just like I vividly remember listening to that song for the first time. That is my favorite part of the whole album. Dude, you’re already a Legend. Months ago I realized that you are all I dreamed of becoming when I was a young teenager and all I was thinking and learning to play was MetallicA. After a while, I also realized that I don’t have as much talent as I’d dreamed. That was devastating and my patience plummeted. But you inspired me to pick up the electric guitar after 8-9 years and the MetallicA songs are coming back to me. Anyway, I didn’t know I was gonna go into my life’s story. Keep it heavy 🤘😈🤘 Everything you did is just perfect. Me and my friends discuss your songs all the time
