You know the show is successful when the crowd sings the guitar solo
LOL!
I was there and despite the torrential rain (the video doesn't illustrate quite how bad it was), everyone was singing. Best metal gig ever!
Dashing Theroux The Snow I wanna see the live show man, but fuck my country
Hamza Khan where are you from?
I was also there, I fell ill when I got home lol
The fact they played this well in the rain is absolutely mindblowing
Looks so badass
yeah wtffffffffff
Funny coz the rain only started the moment they came on and stopped when they finished. I remember getting pissed that it started raining but jeez it really improved the crowd. Everyone couldn’t use their phones as much. So happy it did rain now and I’ve been to many gigs and been fortunate that it hadn’t rained in any of those gigs until this. Very hard to go to many outdoor gigs in the UK without rain. I was 19 during this wearing just a t shirt and left the gig soaked but it was so worth it. Plus i pissed my pants since i didn’t want to step away for a moment to go to toilet and miss anything. I remember my friend took it upon himself to lift me on his shoulders, still haven’t told him I’d pissed my pants 😂. I’ll wait till we’re older haha.
And the Lord said, time to put your phones down, Puppetz is playing.
I miss slayer
As a drummer, HUGE props to lars for still keeping the set and tempo stable with your sticks and pedals being slick asf
The sheer amount of water coming of the drums in the first fill was insane, massive respect for somehow rocking on
You mean without cocaine?

Dry Lars plays pretty good. But wet Lars plays similar to 90's Lars. 🤘
Drums are still acoustic even tho they’re being processed from the PA. If he doesn’t hit the drums hard they wouldn’t sound right. Every drummer sounds different for this reason.
Eyenfinity Face - The Cosmic Loner well now there’s a special effect right in front of him. If he doesn’t hit the shit out of it you get no cool splash’s.

@@MrValBar2 yeah, because the world's most famous drummer in the worlds biggest band doesn't have millions of fans.
Despite their huge fame, I think Metallica is often underappreciated for how insanely skilled they are at playing live. They sound so damn tight every time.
Yeah, that's right. Metallica is underappreciated except by you.
Кто-нибудь может посоветовать металл группу, которая также хорошо выступает в живую?
Я чёт не видел.
They're really not that tight every time though, but they should have mad respect nonetheless. As a drummer, guitarist, bassist and singer, with emphasis on the first one, no they are not tight every time. But these mf's play a lot of f-ing shows. I wouldn't be tight on either instrument every show. I've been on tour in Poland and the Check Republic and only had 4 shows at the time. Gods shall know I wasn't tight every god damn show. I was drunk af tho lol. And these old men do a lot more shows than that and I'm just 35, so there's that. Credit should be given when credit is due. Love these guys.

After Seattle '89, this is the best live version of MOP that Metallica has ever done. James' vocals on point, Lars killing the drums, the monster bass of Trujillo and Kirk nailing the solos. The rain makes it 1000 times more epic, and that new outro they started doing is awesome, great for fan interaction. I love every second of this.

Etch a sketch
The rain really adds some great atmosphere, great that they were able to power through and do amazing despite the pouring rain.
I don't think anyone would realize this, but James is playing his most prized guitar in the pouring rain. This rustic looking guitar's name is Carl named after the street in California where they practiced for years. The band got the idea to dismantle the garage they used to practice in back in the day and bring it to their studio and reassemble it inside it. So they tried, but the garage had been torn down. Despite that the band decided to hold a reunion party on the property and someone who was an old friend came and said that he had kept some of the wood from the garage, so they took the wood from the very garage where they wrote Ride The Lightning, For Whom The Bell Tolls, and most notably Master of Puppets and built a very special guitar for the band. Carl is brought out and played with every performance of Master of Puppets no matter the weather which is remarkable to see considering the historical and sentimental significance of the instrument.
This comment genuinely made my day, thank you
¿¿¿Seriously??? That I did not know and did you know that For one of its 3 batteries is playing, the purple battery that is playing is the 2 battery The First battery is a Green battery that that battery is since it started Metallic, and the Third battery is orange. u this Lars has and a battery that is orange and lars said that his orange battery was the most prized for him

Hell yeah!!! And recognize eddie brought metallica to a new generation that cant even instruments.
@@ramirorodriguez1778 I see a lot of people handling that Eddie scene so wrong. It’s like it’s gonna deter more people than welcome them in. I see too many gate keepers and that’s precisely what I hate about metal and I’m a metal head. I can’t stand these stubborn hard core metal heads that think they can dictate what’s good and bad. The genre will never become big again because band fan bases have feuds with each other when the bands just wanna make music and far too many sub genres with fans of one sub genre hating the other sub genre. E.g Metal core fans will hate grind core or whatever tf cores and shit you have now. That’s what’s wrong with the genre as a whole.
@@mast3rchief536 I can't see any gatekeeping in these comments.
Hell one of the top upvoted comments is "welcome to the Metallica family"
@@KungfooBucket it depends where you look. I saw in the comments to the actual scene were people was complaining about how it’s gonna attract kids who listen to pop and make it commercial which is a bunch of bollocks. I was at this very gig so I have a say but I noticed a few people in this comment section having a problem with it. Just why metal will never be popular, too many gate keepers have bragging rights over those who are being introduced to it. You can be introduced one way or the other, these kids who listen to pop might not have been introduced to Metallica before since pop is everywhere in the mainstream so it’s easier access for these kids. Generally metal is imploding due to these annoying sub genres and that’s why it will never take off. Your best bet is the most popular TV series in the world right now including Metallica and that might attract new fans but again, the “hardcore” metal community have a problem with that while complaining about how their favourite bands don’t get awards at the Grammies or any other mainstream awards show. I follow pages like loud wire that report on rock and metal and whenever a band is reported, it swarms more haters than fans

I'm always impressed with James' vocal range, he always seems to be keeping after it and trying to maintain it and flex it, and I still find his to be very dynamic among metal singers
Honestly I think his voice has held up better than any other person from the 80s in any genre. He sounds as good, sometimes better, than he has ever sounded before. I’m not even a huge Metallica fan and still believe that.
@@STSGuitar16 Yeah I agree, I'm also not a huge Metallica fan but their success and skill is undeniable
@@Chris-cf2kp I definitely don’t dislike their sound or anything like that, I just say I’m not a huge fan because I haven’t delved too deeply into their stuff other than the well-known songs. I’m sure they’ve got some really great lesser-known tracks that I’d really love. I’m a guitarist and have recently discovered how damn fun their stuff is to play (I’m discovering that metal in general is one of the absolute most fun things to play on a super loud ass amp lol you feel like you’re conjuring up thunder and lightning as the walls shake from pure power 😂😂 highly recommended), so that’s kinda the angle I’m coming in from. Some of their riffs are pretty tricky finger-twisters but James somehow still manages to hold those riffs down dead on and sing that difficult and demanding style absolutely perfectly in tune and right on point with his delivery as well. You definitely can’t deny the incredible talent.

I ran into him at a San Francisco Giants game once. Just a normal guy. He seemed familiar for some reason. It wasn't until afterwards I realized who it was.
James is Metallica. His voice is what makes Metallica sound like Metallica. They’ve gone thru bass players. I think they could replace Lars and be ok. He hasn’t done much to sound unique from a technical perspective since Justice. I know he writes with James but I think James could do it alone. When I was in high school, Metallica was a bunch of nobody’s, and only myself and about four others in my High School even knew who these guys were. I was the only one who wore a Metallica patched up Jean jacket every day. I used to collect rare Metallica albums back then. I still have my collection stored away somewhere (Different colored vinyl albums of Creeping Death & Jump in the Fire as well as picture discs, bootleg concert recordings, interview picture discs, etc). I remember When AJFA came out, we had about 10-15 more students in the school that suddenly became fans. I knew things would never be the same from that point on. Once they hit the mainstream and became popular (pretty much from 1990 and on), I pretty much lost interest, as the nostalgia of being in that small exclusive club of fans was gone.

Shout out to all the techs who know how to ground all the sound equipment properly.
Same thought! Not something most would think about but definitely well done!
This is a major feat. Seriously. Amazing job by the techs. If anyone is aware of how difficult it can be to properly ground something with small voltage (mic), yet alone an amp, it is a total bitch. They are all using new tech but, old amps and old mics are infamous for being dangerous. Tons of the older musicians have had accidents with it, and a few musicians have actually died on stage due to electrocution. A major problem can occur when a guitar, ran into an amp is on a current 1 and the mic circuit is on current 2 - if one prick of the guitar string touches the mic stand or if the mouth of the player touches the mic, electrocution occurs. Keith Richards actually got blown across the stage in the 70s, and Ace Frehley of Kiss wrote the song "Shock Me" about being electrocuted and being knocked their stage staircase.

Tuna Yücer yeah i know man. That’s why use word “cheating” instead of cheating😉.
@@muhammadirsyazman8389 yeah people seem to forget that kirk is actually also playing everything with downpicking.
To everyone who comes to this video after Stranger Things, welcome to the Metallica family. If you’ve never been in here before, enjoy the journey into the legends of Metal.
mannnnn i love late 90s - early 2000s rock and metal and cannot believe i've never given them a listen. this song is incredible and i wanna listen to the ablum now
i gotten into Metallica in the past month so yesterday when i heard this playing in stranger things i had a huge grin, so I can just imagine what the hardcore fans must feel like lol
@@sofaphobic Definitely do. There’s a reason Master of Puppets is consistently on top of lists of classic metal albums.
@@sofaphobic FYI this song came out in 1986
So glad people that are not Metallica fans discovering how awesome Metal is 🤟🤟🤟
I hear the word legend used very often in the music business. These guys have earned the title without a doubt. This performance reinforces that title.
This is why Metallica is the kings of metal. Most bands would have woosed out and called it a night. Not them. They made it epic!
Best part about rain at a concert? Less phones out in the audience.
Ok boomer
I was born in 89. Last I checked boomers were 50’s-late 60’s range. And listening to Elvis not Metallica
MattSipka it was a joke because you seemingly hate phones. A lot of boomers hate technology.
I know, I don’t hate phones, just people. (How am I supposed to film the concert with MY phone when everyone else doing the same thing in front of me? Easy! Rainy concert and a waterproof case!) in all honesty, you can never recreate the same experience on camera. It’s better to enjoy moments instead of trying to catch em all like Pokémon.
@@mrwootenplays7227 hilarious joke you should make a reddit account you might get up votes
The solo was perfect!!! When you thought you knew everything about Metallica you discover they play even better in heavy rain. Amazing.
It isnt just heavy rain. Its Mancunian Heavy Rain. The drops need to be the size of 50 cal bullets.
You're deaf
and I thought that I'm the only one having this kind of thinking...yeahh
Lars Ulrich honestly deserves more credit. The guy is a beast on the drums.
Real asf! Drummers are honestly don't get alot of appreciation.
The crowd here was insane and the guys gave an amazing show as always, in the pouring rain no less.
This music, this band, will NEVER die. Until the last day of human life on earth, Metallica will be playing. LOUD.
Pablo Navarro Amen Brother 🤟🏻
TOTAL AGREEMENT, Brother 😁😁😁😊😊👍👍👍😎😎😊
Preach!!!!
Im Eiichiro Oda my nigga Ringo Start
Bien dicho..... do you speak Spanish? No? :v
After so many years, this one is for sure the most epic live of Master of Puppets.
@@JohnJohnmen and so does your mum.
I think its even better than the original one
@@centeotlmerinoavila1581 i agree i think the gituar sounds much better on this
It's close but did you see master of puppets live Seattle 1989 that was the best performance Metallica delivered it to me anyway each to their own
I was lucky enough to be there
Pouring rain, slippery wet strings, and these guys delivered it. Fuck yeah.
The drums all wet being smashed to perfection! Brilliant!
One of the best live performances I’ve ever seen. The fact that it’s raining makes it even more badass, I love it!
Moscow 91‘ : „Hold my Beer!“ 😂
Opeth - Sorceress at Red Rocks
Me 2 man, i was there also, totally awesome.
Boring crowd
Seattle 89' One
One of the best performances they ever did. AND THEY'RE IN THEIR 50's!!!
Really good performance but not one of their best lmao let's be real
@@jeremy9951 How is it not?
I like to think Metallica is immortal.
Years are but a number.
@Crowbar. 27 True. Playing rhythm in Metallica is an astonishing commitment of wrist nightmares. Hetfield must have some amazing ligaments.
They’ve aged so well. Still pull off the look
They all make it look so easy playing this song, even after all these years
Damn! Kirk was in such fire during the solo that even rain couldn't extinguish him.
Yeah, that solo was flawless
I like it
when Kirk is on, he can rip through solos with the best of them. he gets a lot of shit, but I've seen enough metal bands live to know that a lot of lead guitarists don't come close to perfectly replicating their studio solos.
Holy hell.....Lars just kicking the snot out of those drums....looks epic as anything in the rain!
Too bad he's a total douch hammer
This show sums Manchester up. It's always raining but the spirit we hold in this city is unrivalled a cross the world.
A truly amazing night!
Just to ask. There were 2 tall towers on stage and I kept thinking, were they water jets or something. You know to bring down water on themselves as if nobody told them it's always raining here in Manchester lol
@@brettaugustine1564 why?
@@kennytesta9312 Becuase a lot of people bandwagon saying he’s a bad drummer when he’s really not.
The fact they played this well in the rain is absolutely mindblowing💖💖💖💖💖💖
Other bands would fold under a drizzle, Metallica thrives in a downpour. Legendary.
Me and my wife at the front absolutely soaked and absolutely loved being in the rain with Metallica that nigh 👌🏻🤘🏻
*my wife and I
There’s always one bellend 🙄🙄🙄 bore off
John Hutchin well said
John Hutchin very jealous. Had to be an amazing concert.
Sackmatters it was actually my wife who responded to the bellend 😂😂 cheers guys it was an amazing night
The rain ended up giving them all super powers. The legendary and almighty Metallica!
Long may they live and may the asses they rock be many!
BlackDogsMatter
This is horrible bro. Seriously
@@davemieze9021 your face is horrible. I'm not complaining about that though. Get a better face, jerk.
lol
Most amazing concert ever, the rain made it more amazing, seeing the water bouncing off the drums was mesmerizing 😮 the rain made it legendary!
At first I thought that the rain on the drummer Lars was just for an added visual effect that would show up on the big screens and then when the camera panned out to show James singing out in front of the audience and the security & fans were all wearing rain gear, I was like HOLY F*UCK they are really playing in the rain ! 99.99% of any other bands would have cancelled their show, but insanity & dedication came together on this June 18th and the fans got the best single band performance in Rock/Metal history. I still can't believe what I just watched happen.
The drummer in the rain gives a totally different vibe.
His name is lars
That drummers pretty cool huh
Blake Davis uhmm yeah umm
Dimitri Papa di Nikolaus mmhhm
You can say Lars and just 3 - 4 people in the world wouldn´t get you are talking about Metallica´s drummer
*Fun fact: Metallica is the only band to play on all SEVEN continents.*
Inb4 some pop band does that for clout
Helloween too😊
Sorry but which is the seventh continent?😅
@@matt.g6968 brazil
Brazil is a continent?
metallica, like wines, the older the better...maybe the only band who deserve to see them live...
Setlist:
0:00 - Master of Puppets
Thank you so much
Man i've looking for 30 minutes
Thanks a lot
Much needed and appreciated!!!
Imagine if that was the entire concert
Thanks a lot, I couldn't find it either
As it as already been said, but I'll say it again : I don't know if people realise how well they played considering it was pouring rain. Water on strings glide well too much and it's becoming hell to play right. The fact that they played it without missing notes is incredible and show how skilled they are. Because it does recquire some strong stamina to play this song, and they did it with Rain all along.
What a band.
yeah for sure, the bass is constantly busy and all of those downpicks in the rain must be hell to deal with. Not to mention poor Lars, you know how uncomfortable being in wet jeans is? I couldn't imagine sitting there, with your thigh as the biggest surface, trying to keep the sticks in your hand and moving in soaking wet tight denim/whatever he has on. Definitely a masterclass.
And played at 1.5X speed aswell is just incredible
I was at this gig and in between songs you could see them walking behind the drum to shake their arms to fling as much water off as possible before the next song. Everyone was drenched but it was an awesome night!
Makes it that much more badass
@@ac8785 couldn't agree more
Im not such a metallica fan i sometimes listen but i give the respect from playing in rain
