Touhou Explained! Episode 4.5 - Touhou 19 Demo + Predictions

- With an all-new Touhou game approaching, I'd thought it would be best to prepare by taking a look at the story so far. The release of the demo has given us some valuable info to get us hyped, so I'm taking a look at what we now know, as well as making some guesses on what that character roster holds. Let the hype train begin!

A little detail you probably didn't see, during the story of the zodiac, the candidate animals does a race above a river. When you play the game you cross a river!
The famous part is that the cat was not part of the zodiac because the rat didn't woke him up in time to the race (or pushed it off the boat into the river). I speculate that the antagonist will be a cat and the "anti-hero" of the story will be Nazrin.
You forgot to say about the names of level of difficulties, they are all named insect-oriented. Why?
Another thing, re-read Suichouka, it seems there is a frog or thunderstorm subject going under the main story (they show it a lot).The 4th clan could be the salamender race that create sake into the Gourd of Ibuki. The main menu cover can be seen as either spirits or thunderbolts.
The main color of the game are yellow and blue, but with lot of greens. The icon got both the 3 colors I guess? WHat about the yellowish/orange "TH19" ? Is it fire? I have a feeling forest will be burned for more ground = more profit=Chimata doing vicious stuff to stay alive. It could be the subject treated in discret by ZUN, deforestation? It goes pretty well with an animal theme. Insects could be the big boss since they are essential to the whole ecosystem.

Yo that's awesome! This lends the Zodiac theory even mine credence. The 4th clan also being connected to Sake and the oni would connect once again to Kasen and the other oni possibly? Too many possibilities and they're all awesome😅

6:26 the jewel being mentioned here might be a dragon jewel, wich are the main component of the ability cards as well as other powerful artifacts like Reimus Ying Yang orb
The dragon jewels are also “Izanagi Objects“, wich was a term first mentioned in the sidestory of the music album: neo traditionalism of japan

This could either be one of the biggest or one of the most lackluster games when it comes to additional lore. It’s a 50/50 toss. I say this because Phantasmagoria games are usually regulated to be just for funsies without anything serious going on, the focus being on the multiplayer aspect. That said, this IS the biggest character roster we’ve had for any Touhou game by far, and each one is getting their own story, so the potential to expand on the story is really big. Either way, I just hope we get lots of good music!
With all the clues referring to a snake, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Yokai snake in touhou 19.
I would also like to see ZUN adding a completely unrelated character just for fun x)
Oh, the things I would do for a Grassroots Youkai Network storyline...
On the reason for the ancient lands being related to the Market, Chimatas ability is to allow exchange by making it so ownership is completely removed when it happens
Perhaps in an effort to make the market take place almost anywhere, the entirety of gensokyo basically, her ability might have extended into ownership being lost over said lands, some dialogue suggest that each fight is for gaining ownership of that area, as a sort of King of the Hill scenario, but I might be misenterpreting it
As for the Jewel, it could be something akin to an Ocult Ball, or smaller, however it could also be a Dragon Jewel that was used in making the cards, as theyre said to contain strong amounts of power, it could work as a sort of wishing stone, and Seiran plans to recreate the invasion plot using it, but it seems she looses it after fighting Nazrin regardless of which route is played, so perhaps she goes to find more
I have no true ideas about the Main Plot, its interesting that Marisa and Reimu seem to have different end points to resolving the incident, so it might be a thing of having 2 final bosses, giving is maybe 4 new characters at the very least to have as "stage 5, and stage 6" bosses for either route
Well i agree with everything, althought I have still my Predictions, that I will Keep Stand for, until IT finally Gets Approved or dissaproved by Zun himself in 19.
Althought i don't mind for Kagerou or These other two(Sekibanki and Wakahime) to Join Into Roster, I Honestly don't See a reason why Seija wouldn't be involved Into that Incidient either. I mean after all she is still the one, who wants to commit a Revolution for the weaker to become Strong. Plus Seija could also fit Into Ox, Ox is a Zodiac that can represent in any way, but one of Them is definetly Chaos and being stubborn. Seija has Horns and is also very stubborn when she is blinded with her reversed Ideology. Althought she could Change Herself to a Better Person and Help the Weak Yokai Trio in their Mission to become stronger. In another words i wouldn't mind If Kagerou or Seija or even both might become playable in the latest Game.
The boss animations look so crispy i LOVE them
A Mima storyline sounds really cool. it also would be a funny joke that most characters would be confused who they are except Mirisa. since most beleave she tought mirisa master spark. mima would have plenty of dark master spark moves . and dark shadowy star attacks as a refrence t her posible mentorship of Mirisa.
if she is the final boss she would fight out of desperation to be remembered and to be seen as the goddess of spirits .never to be forgotten or sealed away. it would be great character development seeing a soft side to her megalomania, to actually worry about being forgotten.
God only knows how badly I want Tukasa to be playable in this game lol.
I've seen a lot of speculation on the cast of Touhou 19 so far, but i dont think i've heard anyone bring up Kasen as a possible candidate until now, You make some really great points! The similarities you brought up between the Grassroots Youkai Network and the animal realm organizations is really interesting as well!

Soemthing that I would really like is to meet the Four Faction of the Animal Realm and their Leader.
For me personally, I think it would be really cool if Keiki were to come back, not really as a playable character (though that would be cool too), but as a sort of extra/true final boss type thing
Consider this, with all of the beast spirits and factions occupied with claiming this "new land" who would be able to stop her from just taking over the rest of the animal realm completely? Plus we also get dialogue in Touhou 17 that sets her up as a potential threat in the future. Maybe Keiki is also trying to go for the new land but since she's already trying to take over the beast realm again that would probably be a second priority for her.
Maybe the secret fourth faction has teamed up with her to try and gain an advantage over the rest of the factions while also helping her in taking over the ancient land that just popped up (while also wanting it for themselves of course). Maybe the reason why Reimu is the one being led there is because of how Reimu sensed an "evil aura" in Keiki, and Keiki (knowing this could be a liability for her) wants to take Reimu out as soon as she can.
So yeah, this is my prediction for the next game, Keiki is my favourite character so maybe I'm just biased lol
