9:19 Youmu is canonically afraid of both Rumia and Merlin. Two of the happiest Youkai in this series. Seems like Kogasa has a chance of scaring her ironically enough.
I like how you include but don't overemphasize the fanon stuff. I only know the fanon stuff really so you drawing the connections between canon and fanon is helpful. Can't wait for the next episode!
Only knowing the fanon part if Touhou rather than the canon is like having seen the movie/TV series but not read the original book. It's okay, but you learn a lot by understanding both.
"Where does the food go?"
In her stomach. Ghosts (bourei) are said to be borderline indistinguishable from humans unlike phantoms (yuurei) that are the flying plastic bags and aren't even necessarily dead people. Also from what I understand, the Japanese words used to distinguish them mean virtually the same thing in common usage, just like "ghost" and "phantom" do for us.
So Yuyuko can't go through walls. Which is why food doesn't go through her stomach.
To be honest, I wasn’t crazy about Yuyuko’s story until I saw the expansion upon it made in the very much separate canon of the infamous gacha game Lost Word. In that, it’s shown that (at least in the given universe the characters are in, since of course this is a game about parallel universes) the great poet Saigyou actually went on a pilgrimage to various places in the final years of his life, sort of a big last trip. He would greatly miss his daughter though, so he used some of the bark of this huge cherry tree in his backyard or whatever, originally packed to be burnt as an offering at some temples here and there, to make a copy of his daughter. Through spiritual hijinks, he Pinnochio’d this copy to life, and the copy began to believe itself to be the original. Imagine its shock when the two got home and Saigyou reunited with his real daughter and grafted the copy back into the tree again!
Pissed as fuck, the doll took advantage of its new big body as the tree itself to grow its spiritual might and began to psychically influence her “father” with thoughts about the tree’s beauty, convincing him to let himself expire under it. Now, the reputation of the tree being the place of death of this famous guy certainly helped, but the seemingly illogical leap to “hey let’s slit our fucking throats under this thing” is actually explained pretty well by it being the further memetic harm that the tree could cause, determined to get so big and beautiful as to completely invalidate her “inferior”, and to make her die as well.
It was only the intervention of her friend Yukari, blending in with the human masses as an “emissary onmyouji from the Capital”, along with the efforts of Youki Kompaku, Youmu’s legendary grandpa, that made it so Yuyuko could be “saved” by being rendered an amnestic ghost while her body was used to seal the tree and all that. I like this extra stuff and low key headcanon it as being the full story for reals for three reasons: one, the tree is actually a character with motivations. Two, it gives relevance to Youmu specifically being the caretaker of the place, being more than just a rando who’s just kind of been doing this job for a while now. Three, the backstory in general gives Yukari’s friendship with Yuyuko more meat as well, sort of pining after her and wishing things could have been different.
All because a doll had a Metal Sonic complex due to being brought to life as a mere temporary replacement.
Letty is actually quite powerful. In fact, according to ZUN's 2013 Q&A she is powerful enough to create an Incident on her own

Man, I really love your videos. I hope you'll cover every mainline game in the series because most of the dialogues in the game are about funny stuff and forget to point out the main reasons to some incidents, so having some videos explaining the story is quite helpful. Keep up with the good work 👍

Yuyuko is Gensokyos incarnation of Kirby. A never ending Black Hole-like Void inside of a mortal (Or in Yuyuko's case, Ghost) Who has an insatiable appetite. And for some reason both characters have trees in their respective games.
Unlike Woody Woods, However. The Haj-Habadaba-Yaba.... THE CHERRY BLOSSOM TREE! Actually poses a challenge
By the way. I just saw the Touhou 8 explained video and went immediately to this one. About to watch th6 explained. Your video style and sense of humour definitely got a kick out of me and even a belly laugh at the Bootleg Fumo part.(Not the fact that their bootlegs, I 100% did the same) but the pause while you were talking about yuyuko And then the part where you mentioned you got a Yuyuko one as well made me nearly lose my breath laughing. Subscribed!
yuyuko's final spellcard is actually pretty easy, on normal and difficult you can beat it only by moving sideways
Finally someone that gets that Yuyuko is precious and has to be protected at all costs.

Note for anyone who wants to reach the phantasm stage: You need to beat 60 Different Spellcards without getting hit across all player characters to get it.
I watched a playthrough of Touhou 07, not realizing that I missed the secret boss and crucial lore

By the way, only the first 2 attacks for the Prismrivers are based on your character, the rest of the attacks are based on who you attack during the spells where they're all attacking you at once, the one with the most damage dealt is the one who attacks you

16:30 this attack is actually ran's easiest attack. You dodge it by just tapping a direction once for every round of green stuff. Rest of the fight is no joke though. Especially the one where she teleports to you a bunch.
