I’m a therapist. I grieve for this beautiful young woman. Young people who believe they are transgender NEED deep, skillful therapeutic care. If the emotional/psychological issues are addressed and resolved and the person still believes they are transgender, so be it. But so, so often, there are emotional/psychological issues - often in the family system - that are manifesting in the rejection of the self/the body. No one should make any decision in life - great or small - from a basis of self-hatred. This is consistent as I work with trans adolescents and their families: abject hatred of their femininity (for girls). This needs to be explored, not “fixed” by transitioning to male.

When I was a teen, I wanted to be male because I was bullied for not wearing make-up and being "feminine" enough. I also kept hearing about women having to wear high heels to work and just hated the thought so much. I'm honestly glad that was in the early 2000s, when we weren't as "woke". I might have made a terrible mistake I would still live to regret.
I still almost never wear make-up and never have worn high heels in my life, but I don't want to be a man. I just want to be a woman who is not a stereotype.
It mostly makes me mad and sad when they already label small kids as trans because they aren't a walking stereotype. I remember when nobody worried much about a tomboy phase in a prepubescent girl.

My mental problems made me unhappy with life, I felt like I was missing something. Add on to that I dont like cars, sports, typical male things. Love female clothing and dressing up as one and make up. I was drunk every day to stop myself from thinking about my actual problems in life. And started feeling trans. Now I only drink in the weekend for fun and am working on the problems and see that I am happy with my sex/gender you see some guys cosplay female characters wear makeup and still are dudes. Yes I could call myself fluid. But I know my sex is male and can like feminine stuff. I'm just a reverse tomboy, because I still find being a dude easier and more myself. 8:48 This right here is so powerful. I remember growing up in a very sexist household and at 4 years old praying to God I would wake up with a penis. I hated everything about being a girl at that time. Then as I got older I realized that I didn’t hate being a girl. I hated how I was forced to express my femininity. Knowing that interests, colors, activities, careers don’t have a gender changed everything for me. It actually made me proud to be a woman because I felt like it was my responsibility to be true to myself and represent my definition of womanhood.

Freud called this stage in a girl's development "penis envy," lol. He may have been right. Freud believed most women don't remember this stage because it is at about 2 or 3 years old and they repress those feelings. If the girl gets through this stage successfully she will accept her lack of a penis and when she grows up she will enter into a relationship with a man and he can "share" his penis with her through sex and marriage. If she doesn't get through this stage successfully, Freud thought it could cause her to become a lesbian.

And, allowing children who are just at the beginning of really learning about themselves to make life altering decisions is of course a terrible idea.

The fact that you can’t get tattoos, smoke, or drink in a lot of places until at least 18 but can completely change your body through surgery and hormones is the definition of insane. The argument for not being able to drink and smoke before 18-21 is our brains aren’t fully developed yet we can permanently alter ourselves through surgery and other drugs? Drinking throughout my teenage years didn’t do NEARLY as much damage as this now 21 year old girl was put through🤦🏼‍♂️ I can confidently say I’ve never in my life done any permanent damage to myself by using any of the drugs I’ve experimented with. Meanwhile people like her are called brave for doing what she did. What a sick society we live in.

This is why therapy is so important for teenagers. Sometimes parents are quick to want to "fix" their child, and see psychiatry as the easiest option. Medication can be extremely helpful, but it is not a cure-all. It should only be used to help calm symptoms so the client can actually work through their problems.

So I agree with to a degree.
As someone with bpd I can tell u when I tried to get rid of my meds cus "it's drugs!" I saw changes right away, therefore I couldn't function in therapy and could barely focus.
      And tbh it was recently.
I didn't take them for a week and because of it, I couldn't get out of bed, it triggered my eating disorders and suicide thoughts.
When I told it to my therapis he called my doctor, now I had 2 options in that moment either going to the hospital or keep on taking them and on time, and lemme talk u, the change was and is crazy it worked like magic, I started to see how much calmer I feel, I started talking more, and eating normally! It was the moment when it hit me how important medications are, and in way, underrated. U hear a lot of hate when it comes to that and a lot of horror stories about it, but like if u go a bit deeper u will find more ppl just like me.
Obviously it's not an only fix but sometimes it should be the first option because when ur brain is unbalanced no amount of therapy could help (speaking from experience as I said)
I DON'T THINK THERAPY ISNT GOOD!
It's great and been helping me a lot!
What I've learned from the recent weeks is that, the right combination between therapy and meds can be literly life saving!

Exactly. My girlfriend is a butch lesbian and for a while was struggling with if she might be trans or not because she dislikes femininity and chooses to express herself more masculine/andro. She grew up in a conservative household and to her, masculinity=man and femininity=woman, in terms of gender expression. Once she discovered she could be a butch lesbian, she knew for a FACT she wasn't trans. This is what we need to be teaching kids, at that age I think a majority of the issues are gender-expression-based.

I have had some trouble with being comfortable as a woman and I am STILL glad I never even discovered gender dysphoria as a teen. I don’t know if I would have been interested enough to do it but I would have obsessed over it, and now that I am an adult I am pretty happy with my life. I am married to a straight man, I am beautiful, and I have a son. Plus I have enough health problems to worry about. I also have a perspective in life that wouldn’t really approve transition as a solution and I would have regretted that for sure even if I liked presenting as a man instead. I think for me, I saw that my brother got more positive attention than I did, my dad was the nice parent, and I think I got the impression that life was better for boys than for girls. I related more to Simba, Little Foot and Aladdin than any Disney Princesses, etc, I liked boys’ adventures better than girls, and their role in society seemed more fun. In retrospect I think I am just broken, and I have a sort of repressed misogyny that says good girls are lame and not like me. I wanted to be the best I could be but it wasn’t working as a girl so I got anxious and wanted to be like my brother instead. I think a lot of these people who regret transition are like this, and what actually needs to be done is spiritual healing and probably some anxiety treatment

I have a very feminine 12 year old boy with asd, limited verbal skills, learning disabilities etc, that doesn't wear girls clothes ( I've never offered them either) but loves pink, long hair, and playing with girls. My son's teacher used him as an axample on a zoom lesson of a child pretransition so I stopped her mid lesson and removed my son and later she explained that she and my son had " talked" about it ( odd considering he's basically nonverbal but ok) and my son was a girl and I needed to let him be herself. I did go to children's services because I called it grooming but was denied help, the principal had my back sort-of and reprimanded her for being inappropriately involved but how many kids are learning they are trans from teachers? My son may choose his way as an adult but he's a child that had no idea or care about gender because he's disabled he just wants to play with his gal Pals because they are kinder than 12 year old boys, he's sensitive because he has a sensory processing disorder not gender dysphoria. How would that inferring have directed another child? I know other parents who have had similar interactions as alot of asd kids have undefined gender boundaries and it's scary

I really empathize with Elle- especially when she said she didn’t have to be a certain way to be a woman. Our situations seem similar. I’ve questioned my gender since I was about 10 years old. I’m now 18, and after a long time contemplating that I might be FTM, I realized that just because I am attracted to females, because I am not feminine, because I hate dresses and skirts, feel more comfortable in ‘masculine’ groups, my personal expression is gender non-conforming , etc. does NOT necessarily mean I am trans. I might be less feminine, but that doesn’t make me less of a female. I contemplated so many gender identities growing up in the midst of mental health issues and trauma. And now that I’m healing from my trauma and issues I realize that I don’t have to change to be accepted by myself or anyone else. I am who I am. I was so preoccupied by the idea of ‘boy vs girl’ I never took into consideration that it’s not that simple- every boy is not alike and neither is every girl. I wish I could’ve realized sooner, but I’m glad I finally realized, because I could’ve had to go through the stress and pain Elle is currently going through if I decided to transition when I was younger. My heart goes out to Elle (and Blaire too, she’s great). This was a nice video.

Thank you for sharing your story! I think we do need to recognize that there is a grey area of gender expression, and being a masculine girl or a feminine boy doesn't change your identity!! I hate to see these people give themselves gender dysphoria because they are convinced they need to transition. I'm happy you realized, no one should have to go through this.

    Regarding her voice!!
Elle, and any other individual who is unhappy with their voice can go to a speech-language pathologist to change the pitch of their voice in a SAFE way! Trying to modify the pitch of your voice is very doable, but should be done with research based approaches and medically monitored with instrumental testing/imaging to avoid any kind of vocal injury!
Talking outside of your fundamental frequency (the ideal pitch for your body) without the assistance of a professional (a speech-language pathologist) could lead to a bunch of voice disorders long term so it is better to seek the help of a medical professional instead of a vocal coach or voice actor!
Please like this so Elle and Blaire hopefully see this!!

I also wanted to transition so bad and forced myself to like girls because that’s what Cis males did. I’m 18 now, have been dating a guy for 2 years and am a lot more feminine. This part really resonated with me. I grew up in a very very sexist environment that had very strongly held traditional views of what it means to be a woman. I didn't identify with and disagreed with those views so much I began to think I wasn't a woman. It coincided with a time in my life filled with mental issues and uncertainty. Those two environments combined I believe is what caused me to really believe I wasn't a woman. Flash to now, and I have a much more healthy understanding of and love for my femininity. If you treat women like being a woman is a bad thing to be, I believe there will be more and more people being confused about their gender identity.

That's the most hypocritical thing I've ever heard.

I thought we were all supposed to be accepting of everyone, no matter who or what they are?! The people trying to silence anyone that feels they made the wrong choice & need to detransition are the biggest hypocrites alive. This needs to be discussed & accepted as a very real possibility. Detransitioning is going to be a lot more common, in the years to come, because of how people push transitioning into kids. Many of these kids are doing it as a trend or attention. Literally changing your sex, with medication & a lot of times serious surgeries, shouldn’t ever be taken lightly or a “trend”.

And yes, this happened a lot amongst the kids who didn't have great relationships with their parents. So, I think it is a way for kids to rebel. There isn't anything transphobic about that at all. I had a Great teacher in my Grandfather who was a Shamon and helped me reach a comfortable state of being. :) Being of two spirits use to be a good thing in the tribes, we where looked on as Shamon, as counselors between men and women because we can see both sides and understand what they can not. Be well Elle, Be true and love self FIRST only then can you truly be well and comfortable and true with others. What a great talk, thank you both and All my best wishes for your both. :) Be well.

Love watching two people talking to each other and actually listening to each other they didn't interrupt each other once.

I'm going to comment this again, but I used to think I was trans when in reality it was trauma and an eating disorder. I didn't transition back when I was 15 because I was scared of what my conservative parents would think so I decided to wait until I turned 18, and I'm so glad I did, because I think I would have ruined my life.
I'm not saying people who know they are trans since they are very young are mistaken, I'm just trying to communicate the importance of therapy and not rushing into medical transition as soon as you come out

Exactly. I know, after 4 years of knowing I'm trans, that starting T is the right thing for me. I'm 19, and will be almost 20 before I can start T, but I know I'm not trans because of some past trauma or because I don't feel like I can be a more masculine woman. I know I'm trans, and I'm glad to have waited. I don't think I could've started at 15 anyways, but I'm glad I didn't, in case I turned out to be a tomboy and not trans. It's important to wait and realize why you want to transition.

People in US should stop giving tons of pills to children without trying to understandand rootcause. This is so disturbing.

i started getting medication at 13-14 (i’m now 15) and i quickly got off of it cuz it made me feel worse. i said i thought i had depression and anxiety (which i definitely do think that) but they just put that down as my diagnosis without much testing or talking to me. i’m now confused because idk if i have additional things then i was diagnosed with or something completely different. my friend also was diagnosed with adhd and to me it doesn’t seem like she has it. sorry for telling u my whole life story but basically i completely agree with u. it’s honestly scary how they deal with teens and their mental health.

@@mikayla9501 In the past they used to teach children whom were left handed that they were stupid and forced them to write right handed.
I see the treatment they use on children/teenagers/young adults and it is still literally that.
You like many other kids are wired differently and to partake in this society you have to conform to the immesurably high standards/pressure society demands from you.
So they make you fit in with drugs, instead of teaching you to learn from your own behaviour.
I had mental issues myself and for me (not recommended for anyone that actually needs it), but for me i have refused treatment.
Best decision i have ever made in my life, and you will learn when you are older that the ultimate contentment with the self comes when you are able to identify and articulate your own issues and deal with them.
Focus on what you want to do and if you don't know figure it out or ask adults because we've all been there. You are at an age with a world of possibility ahead of you.
And like me you might figure out that you never needed medication to begin with and that a lot of treatment for example for ADHD, mild autism, depression is being driven by the subscription pad, instead of helping by shaping them and make them understand themselves and their own behaviours.
You'll be ok. I will say, that as a former ritalin user myself. It is completely ok if you need it (can't estimate your situation from here), it does have its uses for focussing (dose should never be more than 80 mg a day, if you are on 40 MG like i was that is completely ok). But feel free to quit as well. And at some point you will find out, you don't need it. Don't use it in the weekends and in the holidays, then go to a few classes without it. You might notice no difference at all.

You can be charged with a felony such as murder, robbery, assault in most states at age 12 and in some states as young as ten years. Why? Because the law says a person of that age has the ability to form the required reasoning to plan the crime and more importantly to understand exactly what they were doing. Further, and this is key, the law in most states says that children of the same age we are talking about when it comes to gender transformation have the mental ability to understand the consequences of their actions. So, if a young person can understand the consequences of being the getaway driver in a robbery, whey are they too young to understand the consequences of putting puberty on hold?

Yetanother Top i disagree with that though, children shouldn’t have to bear criminal responsibility at that age.

@@SiobhanS1868 I agree with you. In some states, people as young as 14 can be charged as an adult for felony crimes. My point was that society has an odd view of what children can and cannot be responsible for. If a 16-year-old is late to school five times in some states the principal of the school and bend them over and spank them like a child. If the same 16-year-old gets mad about that and punches the principal in the face 2 seconds after the spanking is done, they can be charged as an adult for felony assault. We need to make up our minds about how much can a child reason and figure out the consequences of their actions. A 17-year-old boy can be told by his parents that they have decided to have him circumcised. There is nothing wrong with his penis nor foreskin - the parents have just decided they like the way a circumcised penis looks. No matter how much he protests, almost every urologist in the US would prescribe a Xanax for him to take before he leaves home, put him on a procedure table, and slice off his foreskin - even if he had told the urologist very loudly that he did not want it done. If that same 17-year-old came back the next day and trashed the urologist's office in revenge, he'd be charged as an adult in criminal court. We need to make up our minds.

I'm glad you covered this, it's important to acknowledge that people can feel a certain way at one time & it can change later on. Specially when we are teenagers & growing up! Thats perfectly normal, it's sad that other trans people get angry toward people who have de transitioned, as if they haven't been through enough coming to that decision. Will Elles voice change to be more feminine again in time? I hope that can happen for her just because she mentions here that it bothers her 💖
