Back in the 1980’s the Tories set bout destroying the NHS. I know I was a nurse who, every day had to count the number of bandages and all other vital medical equipment to make sure we only had what the Tories said we actually needed. Meanwhile patients weren’t getting the nursing care they were supposed to because saving money was the most important thing on a daily basis. I left in 1988 and it’s only got worse since then!
The NHS in Wales is a devolved issue. The Labour Party is fully responsible for its running and has been for over 2 decades. It is Labour that has run it into the ground, no one else.
Have you to agree. Drakeford is just deflecting the fact that, like transport and education he is responsible for the mess in Welsh healthcare. He is the on who should be ashamed

The problems the NHS service in Wales is having is identical to that is happening in England. My mother in-laws father had a fall and she couldnt get him up and was left for nearly 24 hours before an ambulance arrived. The Welsh tory minister really has nothing to go on compared to England which is being run into the ground by the tories.

Hence with covid, a million clueless people blaming the devolved governments for pandemic planning - which was specifically a UK responsibility that Downing St devolved instead to private corporations. As soon as the devolved governments did get some control, things changed within weeks.

A Tory councillor here in Vale of Glamorgan knocked on our door before the last local election. After a little discussion, I raised that Tories we’re going back on their funding promises, and can’t stand forever hearing “levelling up” claims when the opposite is true. I expected some sort of defence - but no - a resigned shrug with nothing to say. You’ve just got to confront these con artists. Yes i remember that picture, and also i remember the way it was done deliberately by the Labour party, a set up, but no one wants to hear the truth and it wasn't shown much on the media at the time, the child was told to get of his bed and pretend he had been lying on the floor for hour's, when the camera was turned of a member of the public filmed him getting back onto his bed. But people are so gullible and only want to see what they want to, but as the member of the public said at the time, anything to get a story and make the government look bad, as for the Welsh assembly they are responsible for the NHS and public services which Westminster budget's them for, there budget was raised this year as was Scotland and Northern Ireland's, you could see Drakeford getting rattled when questioned about it, just like Sturgeon in Scotland they get upset when someone challenge's them.

There's still a postcode lottery when it comes to the NHS in Wales but it has vastly improved since 1997 when there was a referendum on devolution. Patients were treated like ignorant children and prescribed medicines without leaflets in them warning of contraindications and side effects. You got them with over the counter medicines but only more recently with prescribed medicine.

And it's been getting cut for over a decade, and guess what, more austerity from Hunt's government, means more budget cuts to Wales and Scotland. Drakeford is the ultimate liar and betrayer of us Welsh. Instead of looking at what he's done (very little), look at Labour's promises that he has rejected. The Senedd has had the Welsh NHS budget for 23 years, our Welsh NHS is in a worse position now than in the last century. The front line staff are as committed as ever, there are too many "mangers, bean counters & diversity officers" that drag the direction of the real NHS money away from where it is required.

Same mess? In Wales there are 70k waiting longer than 2 years for treatment in the whole of England there are 1k. Only difference between the two is 23 years of Labour control in Wales.
The difference is Tory budgets, they determine what resources Wales have access too, plus Tories have stemmed free movement and immigration so the work pool is lower hence less staff to drive abundances or provide care.

The NHS struggles on due to the dedication of its workforce. The reason it is struggling is due to the Tory government cuts and trying to privatise it. Shame on him for deflecting, and not even saying that the response the father on the floor got was not acceptable!
There's also a doctor shortage which got worse after Brexit which nobody mentions. Carmarthen and Llanelli hospitals have 1 doctor per ward and a load of nurses regularly, which is what drives up the waiting times. It's not entirely a funding issue, but a lack of trained staff. Although you will find there is an increase in private hospitals popping up in Carmarthenshire, had to visit one for an MRI due to the hospital not having enough staff, which obviously pay more than the NHS so attracts more doctors onto their staff. The NHS then has to pay them a larger fee to perform the job they are incapable of.

I have lived through two long spells of Tory rule and on both occasions the NHS has been brought to it's knees. Firstly by Thatcher and then by the present government. In between Blair's labour government got it into a much better state and it will take another labour government to put it right again !
My little town in mid wales has a St. John’s ambulance service and it’s been told by the welsh government ambulance service not to attend 999 calls in the town, wales ambulance service is a disgrace ⚠️

I worked with welsh colleagues for many years and they were a joy to work with and great story tellers into the bargain. A lot of welsh steel workers and heavy industry personnel transferred to Ireland in the mid 1990's as Irelands tech industries began to ramp up and South Wales smoke stack industries and mining began to wane. Very colourful, diligent and engaging people.
It's a very specific area of Carmarthenshire people speak like that. My geography teacher had the same accent
