Marty Feldman doing a Groucho impression. It's perfect. The folks thinking Curly don't get that Curly was a buffoon character, while Groucho was all about wordplay - which is what the joke is doing with the deliberate misinterpretation of "bags."
Last year for my birthday my wife got us tickets to a special screening of this followed by a Q&A with Mel Brooks. Everyone laughed all the way through the movie like we’d never seen it before. Then Mel came out and talked. He said making this was the best movie making experience he had. It was supposed to be a Q&A but I think they only got through 2 questions because Mel would start answering a question and lead him to talk about Gene or Cloris or Madeline and it’d lead him to tell another story. He was great. He realized it took forever to answer the first question so he let the audience decide if we wanted him to stick to short answers and more questions or did we want him to talk about whatever he wanted? We were overwhelming in letting Mel talk about whatever he wanted and he talked for over an hour and a half. It was fantastic!
I also saw an interview with him in which he said that they only had about half a movie when they finished with the scripted material so he had every one ad lib scenes; therefore, half the movie was based on just the comic genius of the actors.
When my now grown daughter, Grace, was about 11, we would get our snacks and soda, sit in front of the fireplace, and laugh throughout this movie. Some of the best times of my life.
Incredible to think that 30 years earlier, Mel Brooks was diffusing bombs and mines during WWII, yet went on to create such wonderful films that made us all double over in laughter. A true genius.
Jesus christ Madeleine Kahn was such a beauty. Absolutely stunning but also so professional. She never cracked a smile or laughed until after "cut" was already yelled or until after someone else laughed or ruined the scene. Gone too soon, amazing and beautiful talent.

I attached a Marty Feldman line from this movie today to an internet joke I passed on about humps on a camel's back: Hump, what hump? There will never be another one like him.
My favorite scenes include Madeline, particularly "What is it that you do do?" Her facial expressions are ever changing, always on the move, incredible acting. I just love her.
They were so beautiful, and yes, they were underrated. I thought that Madeline Kahn was also a good singer but not sure about that. I always had a crush on Teri Garr, even as an adult. I think David Letterman had a thing for her. She appeared on his show a fair amount and she also was on Johnny Carson occasionally.
David Letterman was just a little bit cruel to her. A lot of appearances but a lot of snide jokes about her lack of work. She gave it right back to him.
Yes, great comediennes. That's a dignified word that should be brought back btw. Enough p.c. bullsh*t, male and female comics are different. Garr and Kahn were attractive feminine women who were also very skilled and funny.

I agree. Mel was the best at using innuendo in his movies. Not the blatant, in your face, like nowadays. We had to get his mov9 on DVD and bluray, so that they would be uncut. All hilarious!! All classic comedy.
