    🙌🙌🙌 QUESTION === What questions do you have about online MBAs? In my follow up videos, what kind of content would you like to hear more about related to my experience with the program?

    • @harshilsaxenaa
      @harshilsaxenaa Před 4 lety

      How was the experience getting in...? Was it tough to get admission or what process did you went through to get in ...

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  Před 4 lety

      @@harshilsaxenaa Admissions process wasn't too bad - that'll likely be my next video. Short of it is, it's like applying to another job. If you have a good work experience, did well in previous education, and all that demonstrates that you would do well in this program, then you've got a good chance of getting in. No GMAT required, which was a major plus! The programs attract people that have had a good amount of time in their careers, so at that point, a GMAT isn't necessary. If you're still early in your career, and you can take the GMAT and do well, then that could make up for lack of work experience.

      Hi Richard
      I have 10 yrs of facade industry experience. I was planning to get an online MBA from Manchester Metropolitan University. This is a triple accredited program. How would you review this course.
      Thanks

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  Před 4 lety +1

      @@Robinkoshymathew I have a very good impression of it - it's an established university in a global business hub with a strong alumni network. Also great that it is only £11,988 for the program, if I'm reading correctly. That figure might fluctuate or be different if some of their marketing material is outdated.
      I would apply if you are interested, but I'd make sure to ask about what opportunities they offer in terms of networking with other students or career placement (if you're looking to make a move).
      Coursework itself seems pretty standard - nothing stands out as unique really, apart from courses on "financial technologies". Nonetheless, it's a great value.

    I went through the same systematic process Richard had been through. I was looking for a reputable program that offers flexibility, affordability, and robustness. May be an additional factor I have considered is that the program has been designed originally as an online program. Because I decided to look for a program in late 2020, I found out that a great deal of programs have switched to online platforms as a result of the pandemic. This created a significant noise, so to speak, in my online MBA programs research pool. UIUC iMBA is an online program by design. This was also another plus in addition to the other features Richard has mentioned in the video. I’ve just completed the program, and if time goes back, I would have done it again.

Obviously University of Illinois-UC has better name recognition, but YSU is still in the Ohio Public State School system and is cheaper. To me, that's not too far from 41, it is just a step-down. To be honest, the ranking system is skewed and based on whoever can write the biggest check so I bet UI's MBA is probably just as good when you consider a few factors😆🤣.

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Moumita - thank you for the comment! Networking is likely going to require alot more effort in an online program, as well as being recruited by companies. To make career moves from an online program will take more work because, simply put, you're not on a campus where companies are sending recruiters out there in person looking for candidates. You have to be more proactive in an online program. Still very much possible though.
      And from a curriculum standpoint, no, you're not missing anything.

As I am a very terrible at standardize testing that was my only concern. Which one is better in your opinion the in person mba or the imba? Hi Ramen! UIUC will no longer be offering an in-person MBA program - it will all be entirely online. As far as GMAT, it's not required. I assume you're doing undergrad currently, so I'd first complete that and get 5 or so years of work experience before applying to the iMBA, as work experience is what's going to count more. GMAT is helpful if you have limited work experience to help boost your case for admittance, but absolutely not a requirement. Good luck!

      Hi G S Nanar,
      UTPB and LSUS, though the schools themselves don't necessarily have strong reputations for their MBA programs nationally, both are part of well-recognized school systems, both appear to have a strong curriculum, I'm sure the faculty is good, and the price point is excellent. Can't find much on GSW - the info they provide is very limited, and OSU is also another well-known name in the mid-west, but more expensive as you said.
      As far as ranking them, it depends on your goals. LSUS has a wide variety of electives to choose from in different fields, so that might be interesting depending on where you want to take your career.
      1. UTPB / LSUS tied (best options)
      2. OSU (second best - given the price point)

      Yes, networking is a big part of the MBA experience and its generally easier to do in on-campus programs. Depends on your goals if its worth forgoing, because you do save a ton of money.
      That said, I've actually found the networking in online MBAs to be fantastic - have had many meet ups with local students in the program, and there are many other opportunities to get together. You just need to be a bit more proactive about it since students are meeting in classes.

Now, you have good idea about online MBAs, how you compare that with the iMBA in quality? I mean if its higher price (~70k vs 22k worths it). 2. Comparing the time we spend on Coursera for a course (for example say 50 h), how much is needed for the course part offered in the university website? 3. how you compare iMBA with other good ones regarding networking capacity? 4. Now, how do you compare that with the Boston University online MBA (~ 24k offered on the edx)? Thank you so much in advance...

      Hi Akbar,
      1. Took a look at Penn State, and I see the program pop up from time to time in discussion, but the price point wasn't good for me. Also hard to say how online MBA experiences differ since I've only been in this one, but given how good my experience is so far, I can't imagine that other programs that charge 3-5x would offer that much more. 2. Really depends on the class, but on average it's about 10 hrs/week total for everything - you'll spend majority of the time on the non-coursera work. 3. Similar answer as 1st question. 4. Boston University looks very interesting and should be competitive. I'd certainly consider that one for anyone looking for an online MBA

    Thanks for sharing this information..really helpful. Just had a query: will this online MBA degree help me if I plan to pursue PHD courses in future.

      @RichardWalls  Před 3 lety +2

      No problem! I would think an MBA would help...I've known some folks that went that path. Obviously depends on what you want your PhD in, but if its business related, MBA is a big plus.

    Hi Richard - Happy to report I was accepted into Gies' imba program. Out of curiosity, how much of the program is individual vs. group work? Any insight would be helpful.

    Do you have any advice for someone who is about to start the program this fall?

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  Před 4 lety

      Hi Luis,
      For starters, congrats on getting into the program, and welcome! My main piece of advice is to get on Workplace and interact with other students as much as possible. It is a fantastic resource to introduce yourself, find like-minded people, ask questions, etc. Everyone is incredibly helpful, and it's also used for study groups, which comes in handy for some of the more difficult courses.

    I just want to be a college lecturer. Do you think an MBA is for me?

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Chima - depends what you want to lecture on. MBA can help, if you plan to lecture on a topic related to business. Also depends at what level in a college or university you want to lecture. Uni may more often require a PhD, or perhaps many years of work experience.

      No, "iMBA" is not mentioned, nor is it mentioned that the degree was earned online. The degree will simply read "MBA".

      Coursera.org has a partnership w/ some universities for undergraduate degrees. I'd check those out.
