This was an era when WB is more concerned with making an expansive cinematic universe with more plans compared to a human lifespan than a standalone where people may enjoy and naturally want more.
Many cinematic universes are built on the grounds of a proper standalone that leave people wanting for more. Like many sequels back then.

Hanna-Barbera cartoons always had a shared universe all the way back in 60's. The cartoons had constant crossovers with not just characters but locations and storylines as well. These crossovers would regularly happen even outside of specials. They were so regular that it would just randomly happen in episodes like they were always part of the same show.

Having a connected universe is fine though all the individual elements need to be introduced in their own stories before you think about bringing them together.
A huge studio shouldn’t need to be told that story is more important than the brand, yet time and time again WB makes these same mistakes with everything they own.

Hong Kong Phooey is one I’ve always wanted to see (ever since I first heard of that live action Hong Kong Phooey). Quick Draw McGraw would have been a fun one I imagine. I do hope that we get more movies based on HB properties in the future. I don’t think it needs to be a big connected universe though. Just some of the HB characters sprinkled about in certain movies. The old school HB was pretty much one great big universe anyways, so this is something that could have worked perfectly if it was done right.

See also "Jellystone!" and Mindy Kaling's self-insert vanity project with "Scooby-Doo" characters slapped on it.
As for the "Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe", apparently there are plans to do animated theatrical movies based on "The Flintstones", "The Jetsons", and "Wacky Races". Five bucks says we get Chris Pratt as Fred and Maya Rudolph as either Wilma or Betty.

Oh gosh, not Maya Rudolph portraying another mother character. Is it just me, or is the mother character the only frequent role Maya Rudolph portrays? I mean: A Christian Story Live!, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, The Mitchells vs the Machines and Luca. Heck, even though she wasn’t voicing a character that was someone’s biological mother, her character in Big Hero 6 still was a mother-like figure to the main protagonist and his brother. I’m honestly getting tired of her being typecasted as a mother character; unless the animated Flintstones film is an adaptation of the pre-Pebbles and Bam-Bam era of the show.

3:35 that is canon tho, it was implied or straight up confirmed multiple times that Scooby is either an alien or related to gods in some way. While I understand that the original vision for Scooby wasn't that, you can't deny that at this point of the Scooby doo franchise, he IS implied to be an otherworldly being, even without considering "Scoob".
And another thing completely unrelated to Scooby I wanted to mention was that to me, there is only one crossover that includes Dick Dastardly, and that is "Yogi's treasure hunt" lol, probably only because I watched it when I was younger and I have nostalgia.

2:29 I keep saying you can make this work if done correctly but for some reason they just keep finding ways to screw it up

I wonder if Toho would have also had an effect on why there isn't any expansion to this universe
(cause I don't know why they would want godzilla in there)

WB could easily make more without including Godzilla so no, it’s not the reason.

This movie was over marketed in the theaters , if I Remeber right. Then I never saw it and ended up seeing it on hbo max and had a sour taste in my mouth after words and almost forget I loved this franchise but then I went and watched the James Gunn and the original show clips one and Remeber why.

  • @tdkreturns-batcavepictures1224

I'd prefer this film over that shitty Velma show.

This felt like half the studio executives were on one side of this movie and the other half were on the other. I want a single , one , Uno. Scooby movie done true to the source material but then the other half is I want to build a cinematic universe.

in the end, the film is an ambitious and unique scooby doo CG animated film that was a potential beginning for a cinematic Universe, and eventually, it didnt apparently moved on, especially when doing the christmas special, and i think a tv show reminiscent to the Justice League, and in the end it became, as fun filled easter egg animation film, it became the inferior one of the now successful Super Mario movie which that is starting the Nintendo Cinematic Universe, also most likely the polarized Wish as the additional superior easter egg filled film, i suppose, right?

WB has so much stuff that if planned and handled with care the right way. They would take out everyone. They have super heros , tons of animation for kids and a streaming service that is Probaly b if I were to give it a letter grade. This studio needs a Elon musk type to take over its board.
I so would if I had that type of money 😂

Never seen Scoob and never will, and as I'm watching these clips of the movie in your video, the movie looks so uninteresting already. The design and animation style looks so samey and CTRL X+V of other 3d media. I don't have a clear example in mind but I know that the movement feels so familiar and basic as a style adopted by many other media

I'll be honest, Not a fan of the character design much, Huh actually more on the Art style that it takes up, But the cameos of Her other work and the Backstory of Scoob was What I loves the most about the film Other than that Not much to it
