    Don't let 8.7" wide confuss you. Its 8.5" at the trucks. I just got Indie Hollows 144mm trucks and Powell's Andy's 52mm Nano Cubic wheels that bring it all out to the edge at the truck mounts. Sweet.
    Or..Powell Mini Logo Trucks 8.38" and again Powell's Andy's Nano Cubics wheels. If you gonna run Powell's Christopher Hiett's Nano Rats wheels then you gonna want a little wider truck. Good luck this info is hard won!

    I just got Chris Roberts' Chocolate symmetrical board. I will only ride twin tail boards from now on. Your advice about putting a pair of new trucks on a twin tail board is right on because I am riding my old trucks, and one side definitely feels looser than the other, so that plays mind games with me a bit. I'm going to replace the bushings with new ones first, and then if that doesn't do it, put on a totally new pair of trucks. Great video! (Love the new Peralta dragon wheels by the way!)

      Symmetrical boards should have been standard way before becoming invented in 2023. I've always hated the difference in the nose and tail difference in prior pro models

    Thanks for the video man, I recently discovered your channel and dig it much. I’m also an old guy coming back to skating after a nearly 30 year hiatus. I’m fucking 53 now. I was always an Indy guy, growing up skating in 1980s San Jose and SF. You were laughed at if you rode Tracker or Gullwing. Anyway, that is until I tried Ace in my middle age skating and I will never go back. My Ace 55s turn like no other for me, the truck I always wanted when I was a younger. You’re an inspiration to old fucks like myself! Thanks for the vids keep them coming please 🙏✌🏼🙌

    Nice set up and in deep break down.
    I've been thinking on my next purchases and they are nearly the same with almost the same tweaks, Heron 2, aces AF1 Hollows 55, will use my F4 99 full conicals 56mm until I hunt down some dragons.
    I had some wheelbite issues with Aces. Hard bones bottom bushing and stock ace classics at top solved the problem keeping that ace sharp turn. I use Inverted Kingpins, Grindking at the moment, shaving 2 mm from the top bushing but that's just part of my set up madness.
    Congrats on your progression.

    Think you nailed that setup Jon, great idea with the fresh trucks mines like a boomerang when I'm not on it, goes off to the left at a sharp turn because I do more frontside. Would seriously consider one of those for just the same as you said mini ramps and fun stuff.
    I love symmetrical decks just not enough of them out there.

  • @shaundavies314
    @shaundavies314 Před rokem +1

    Very interesting indeed. I’ve always thought that the idea of a symmetrical deck was a sound one. I recently tried a set of Ace Trucks myself for my pump track board. Ace 66s rather than Indy 159s. I have to say the standard bushes are great for that purpose but I wanted it soft and steery anyway. Something I’d recommend having a look at is Enuff 159s. I fitted those on my typical transition board and for relatively cheap trucks they are actually excellent. British made too.

  • @ceppm
    @ceppm Před rokem +1

    My first board (after 30 years) was symetrical and it was great to (re)learn stuff without worrying about which way was front. My current board is not symetrical and I use it the other way around. I don't do much with the nose so prefer the larger area on the tail. My next board is definitely going to be symetrical, I still don't understand what's the point of assymetrical boards and I'm glad that there is a bit more offer like Andy's and Crob's. Keep on shredding!

    I’m a big fan of aces but also found the stock bushings in rideable being a gentleman of a certain stature 😂
    I rode bones hardcores for a while but found they didn’t fit very well causing more wheelbite due to the shorter lower bushing and the hanger wobbled somewhat due to smaller circumference. After a brief spell on khiros I’m now running the ace hard bushings and really rate them
    I’m now running

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  Před rokem

      Yeah dude, I popped a washer under the bottom bushing to maintain the geometry, I do the same thing with me Indy’s, seems to be working well?

  • @ramrunsfast
    @ramrunsfast Před rokem +1

    Hey Jon,
    I would give the Ace bushing another chance. They usually take a bit to break in but once they do they ride really well.
    You mentioned you tightened the trucks quite a bit, if the bushings are still in decent shape try popping them back in and break them in at the pump track.
    If you do decide to stick with your bones bushings putting a small washer on the bottom bushing will help take the bushings to the correct height otherwise the geometry of your truck will change which is something you may or may not notice.
    Great skating!

    • @JonBishopSkate
      @JonBishopSkate  Před rokem +1

      Many thanks for the advice dude. Yeah I popped the washer under the bottom bushing as I’ve found in the past with Indys that it works better so did it here out of habit 😂 I’m 90kg and 6’3” and the ACE bushings just felt too soft, but with your advice I’ll give them another whirl !!

    Love your videos man! This deck is just a bit too large for me, I will stick with 8.5 flight decks. However the symetrical design is a great concept. I ride my decks not paying attention to where is the nose or tail, so it would be absolutely fantastic for me needs. If only less than 160 pounds and less than 8.8 or 8.7 haha. Best regards - Tom, Polish skater from Staines (east side haha xD).

    Not a fan of flight or vx. They feel fine when they're brand new but they get razor tail quickly because of the 5 ply design. Plus the top ply is impossibly hard, and prevents the hardware from sitting flush on the deck. I've actually broken bolts trying to tighten them down all the way.

      @@JonBishopSkate I had bought some 215s independent but they looked too wide for my taste, I ended up going with the 159s hollow forged, the only sad part is the forged version doesn’t have the 6 hole baseplate. I have them with a Alan gelfand Hollie tank deck. And it’s the lightest set up I got, considering it’s also the biggest setup I’m happy with it.
