I love skateboarding and I love obey, this collaboration is tight
Right up your alley! 🎯
@@SantaCruzSkateboardshow can I show you muy art?
When I was a kid in the 80's my friend across the street got a Roskopp board with the crazy face. It was the coolest skateboard I had ever seen and still is. I loved just looking at it.
Jim Phillips was one of the reasons i studied graphic design back in the days. Davis Carson was another.
I've been a skater and a graffiti writer for many years now. Style matters as much as contacts. In skate world as in the art world you should be in the right place at the right time and get lucky enough to take the opportunity.
That was awesome! Thanks Santa Cruz Skateboards and Shepard Fairey.
You folks are so good to us. ❤ out to Tom P & Alex White!
This video was amazing. God bless all the artists, skateboarders and anyone else who loved this ❤❤❤❤
SO refreshing when a collaboration like this involves an artist with a shared history in skating.
I love these art episodes
Great watch ! … I make a bunch of skate art myself when not ripping or on the clock. Sometimes I specifically make pieces to help those push through and keep their spirits from running dry this time of the year in MI.
Jim Phillips created some of the raddest graphic art ever. So cool to see how Shepard was influenced by him
"From your eyes to your brain to your heart" - t-shirts should be issued!
As the @thenineclub say “skaters supporting skaters” 1000% Epic collaboration 🙌🏼
Phillips was such a personal influence... his work reminds me of a blend of Robert Crumb with a Rat Fink flavor. Legendary works.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Shepard is a living legend and Santa Cruz is such an awesome brand
This is the first pro deck I ever bought. Loved the graphic.
I was a skater in Rhode Island in the late 80's. I remember Shepard working at Watershed. His Andre the Giant has a posse stickers were stuck everywhere in the city of Providence. Loved that Cory O'Brian graphic back then. Had the t shirt.
guys does this mean that a collab with shepard is actually happening? would be epic a collab between santa cruz and obey, literally a collab worth the skateboarding hall of fame.
Looks pretty rad to me, just ordered with 30% discount woohoo
I had the Corey Obrien OG board. I loved it.
The jeff Kendall one with the guy poking the the Earth in he's hand with a missile is my favorite.
atomic man, it was a reference do the doomsday clock, look that up. . .
@@clintwilliams986 yeah remember him talking about that.love that board it was definitely one of my favorites.
I always liked SC decks. The Roskopp series was cool.
One more thought (this one has to do with graphic design). I was/am heavily influenced by Jim Phillips' art; its in my creative DNA. My mind was blown when I stumbled upon the art of Virgil Finlay. I recall with fondness discovering "the source" of the iconic images produced by both of these heavies. Jim didn't plagiarize - he augmented and pushed Finlay's material and made it his own. Kinda like what Shepard alludes to in this segment.
When your style is biting others style, you’re always in the mix.
So many of the old boards were also screen printed so well.
man I want that original purple cob deck
😀enlightening vid🔥
Please reissue the original reaper
I had a original, that's a really cool design there. People would ask if it had something to do with the Grateful Dead.
🔥
❤
How good was that 👏
I just bought the reissue but i want my original Fireball back 😢😢😢 It was stolen in 1986..
Was Jim responsible for the Grosso Wonderland board? Still wish I had mine
Why didn’t he add the glow to the skeleton from the fireball in his hand? The mandala on the nose doesn’t fit with having a skeleton graphic.
It's crazy that Jim Phillips doesn't have a Wikipedia page .
Someone needs to change that .
Fuckin' rad!
"its 1990 boys, get rid of the skeletons" 😆
This one sucks. Guess I’ll be buying an OG.
Call ma a purist, call me old but the original is best hands down. Not a fan
Oh man I wonder if he’s embarrassed by his ‘hope’ Obama poster these days, gosh, he was on the bandwagon on that one.
Ruined this iconic 80s deck graphic with this woke lefty garbage.
What about if we had the chance to end poverty with an Unconditional Basic Income and a health insurance 4 everybody? 🎉
