It was the larger of the two liner brides that I used to do my outlines on this skate deck. Highly recommended! Great question!

    • @KatLiepinsArt
      @KatLiepinsArt  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Frances! You can handle it a few different ways but I taped the back of the deck so that the holes filled evenly with resin like the rest of the surface of the board and drilled them out a few days later. You just have to be very careful, work slowly with the power drill, and use tape so that the resin doesn’t crack or splinter as you drill through. Hope that helps! 😊

    Very Very Nice! I see you used a brush to clean up the edges of the board from drips. But dont they form again? I usually use tape to build a wall but Im open to other methods. In other words how do you get your edges to stay neat and clean until the epoxy dries?

    • @KatLiepinsArt
      @KatLiepinsArt  Před 2 lety

      Hi!!! I babysit the drips with the silicone scraper/brush until they stop and then use a sander to grind of any remaining drips on the back side of the board (which are very few) once everything has cured. Great question!
      I love learning different techniques. How do you keep the tape from becoming embedded in the resin? What kind of tape do you use?

    • @sqrrlxprntzprintshop
      @sqrrlxprntzprintshop Před 2 lety +1

      @@KatLiepinsArt Thank you for answering! I may try babysitting with my next project and see how it goes.
      I use Tuck Tape to build a dam around the edge. The tape is very sticky and if not careful can be hard to work with. I fold the tape lengthwise against itself leaving a small area for the tape to adhere to the board. Folding the tape over makes it more stable to hold the epoxy in. To keep it from becomming embedded, just remove it before the resin fully hardens...like maybe 6-8hours into curing.

      Hi Juliana! Great question. You should be able to coat a single board in 2-3 layers with the pint size bottles of Makerpoxy at this linkamzn.to/3zuA8UO. You are better off to mix a little more than you think you’ll need since not pouring enough is where you run into trouble. Gravity will cause any excess epoxy to level and run off the edges if you pour a little more than you needed to. This stuff is actually really forgiving. And do you find ... from what I think I see, that painting thin on grained unprimed wood may be more of a staining thing? Want more translucent effect?

      It sounds like you prefer using paint markers. That's totally cool! Go for it. Lining with a brush takes a little more practice and isn't the method for everyone. I just happen to like it.
      For the paint, again, if it isn't highly pigmented you will need to lay down layers to get full coverage. Otherwise, yes, it would most likely have a stained/translucent appearance on unprimed wood grain. This could look cool though, if that's what you're going for. Hope that all helps! @@s7121n9s I have to admit, I don’t have any experience with clear gesso but, if you’re not going to paint on the wood that you want to show, I wouldn’t see a reason to prime it with gesso. Also, if your paint is opaque (not translucent or see through at all) you can probably paint directly on the sanded board (make sure to remove dust with a tack cloth) or you could gesso (clear or white) specifically where your imagery will be painted (see my Painting a Sweet Skateboard Art video for how to do this) to make sure the porous wood doesn’t suck up too much of your paint and your colors are vivid as possible.
      Will you be applying a epoxy resin varnish? If, so there are some other tips we should chat about before you start pouring.
