- "Embarrassed for them": Argument in Canadian McDonald's drive-thru goes viral
A video of an argument in an Edmonton McDonald’s drive-thru is going viral.
The clip, which was posted to TikTok, has been viewed more than one million times since it was uploaded yesterday.
In the video, a man and a woman can be seen in their vehicle in the McDonald’s drive-thru, both holding their phones up, cameras pointed at the cashier. The video’s description explains that the man and woman allegedly declined to park their car in a stall to receive their food and insisted on a cash refund despite initially paying for their meal with a card.
The cashier, who was likely trying to follow restaurant policy, made multiple offers for the couple to accept the refund back onto a card. Yet, they refused, opting instead to hurl all sorts of insults at the cashier.
The insults from the woman in the car ranged from criticizing the cashier for working at McDonald’s to her hair to calling her a loser, telling her to “get a career,” and asking her where she was from, saying she should “speak English” despite the entire back-and-forth clearly happening in English.
With a smirk, the man threatens the cashier with a “big lawsuit” and informs her that he has “50,000 followers on Instagram” and that their encounter will go viral. While he was right about the viral part, it’s likely not how he thought it would turn out.

The policy in stores is your refund is given to you in the method that you paid! You'll NOT get cash unless you paid with it!

As a fellow Canadian I can absolutely attest to this, I have met some very crazy and entitled people out there.
It's a great policy... simple because it stops fraud from getting money out of someone's account. Wish every state in the US did that.

I'm in Edmonton, Canada where this video was recorded. I lose a lot of stuff & it gets stolen 90% of time, so Canadians are nice until they get your $. I trust the immigrant workers at McDonalds more than Canadians. They pass a criminal check to get here, work hard, don't do drugs. Often their work Visa requires them to work at McDonalds.

As reported by Runkle Of The Bailey, the woman in the passenger seat was located and fired from her waitress job and the guy has deleted his instagram.
I would have called the police about 45 seconds into this conversation. So frustrating listening to these fools lie and insult.
They were trying to scam them what they were gonna do is try to get cash back and then call their bank and cancel the charge saying they were scammed

I think the reason why these kinds of people get fired is because the company doesn't want to be associated with their views. If they continued to employ someone like the lady in the passenger seat who ended up going full racist by telling the girl to go back to her country and making fun of her accent, they would get associated with abetting racists, and people would probably boycott their company for associating worth such kinds of people.

I work McDonald's drive-thru, and I can assure you that Karen's come in all forms. The amount of abuse that we take from customers is insane. I have had people throw coins at me food and drinks and threaten my life.
I feel this. Had a problem lady regularly come through ours. She would complete her order and pay online, then pick it up in the drive thru. She would get so angry when we couldn't add or change her order. There was just no option. Same lady made the staff (all way too young) remake a cheeseburger 3 times before I clarified what the issue was, peeled apart the other sandwiches, and showed her what she wanted WAS indeed on it. She gave the dirtiest look before walking out angrily. Another lady threw a coffee after one sip, during covid, when I couldn't physically take it back. Another guy, threw a V8 threw the window. And one guy came in to complain about workers parking too close to the entrance (we had managers permission, slow day). I asked if he wanted a manager. No. I asked if he wanted Corp. No. Okay sir, so you just need to vent. I understand. 😅
(Clarifying - He complained that handicapped customers need to park closer. We had 4-5 empty handicapped spots. He just didn't have a handicapped card.)

The reason a lot of places will not give you a cash refund when you use a debit or credit card specifically credit to make your purchase is because you can go to the bank and contest the charge they’ll give you your money back and if the company or business is giving you money back you’ve now gotten twice what you spent That’s theft. So to avoid that problem, they return your money to you exactly the way you gave it to them. He’s being a horses behind and possibly trying to be a thief.

I've worked jobs like that and after a few minutes I just walk away and get someone else to deal with it after I explain the situation. Sorry but most places won't give cash back if you don't pay with cash
Just give them the cash. When they try to charge back the debit transaction, which is definitely what they intended to do, all you have to do is say you refunded them. You can show the video if they need evidence.
