@@bethanyvann6480 No, the only Maximillian helm was worn by was His Excellency, Meister Tristan von Heidelberg, OP, CB, WSA. I've never seen Elric in a Maximilian, only a morion.
That's funny, because I LOATHE melee. LOL Also, those scenarios of big army battles in a field . . . full of civilians with rapiers . . . not very historically accurate. Which defeats the whole point of historical recreation. Leave the field battles to the military heavies, in my opinion. A proper rapier melee scenario would more likely be a small handful of drunken jerks, picking a fight in a back alley with another small handful of people.
@@rmcdaniel423 Could always imagine they were using sideswords than rapiers. Although, they should have a rotella or buckler or similar in their off-hand, not a parrying dagger. Could easily be archers/early aquebussers running out of ammo and engaging an enemy missile group.
@@levifontaine8186 The kite shield died out in the late 12th century, so no it's not perfectly historical. If you really truly absolutely MUST use a shield larger than a buckler, then there were steel round shields about 20" in diameter (windlass steelcrafts makes an okay version) - but I'd argue that sort of defeats the spirit of the duel.
Fencing with a full Maximilian helm...regardless of the reduced visibility, that's badass.
I believe that's His Excellency, Don Elric Dracwin, of Ansteorra

He has perf plate on the eyes, so visibility is better than the normal eye slot, but the field of vision is smaller than a fencing mask.
@@stoneypotterson - thank you for the correction! My bad.
Thank you so much for the montage. I've just returned to the SCA after many years and watching this made me realize how much I've missed fencing.
Gotta love the folks fencing in close helms
I miss so many of these people... my dear friends that I could play with all day on the field... glad I stumbled across this.
1:01 seeing Tivar marshalling... RIP dear friend...
I've watched the bout at 0:33 like 145 times in the last week. Such solid anticipation.
I miss this...
why must beekeepers fight
Song is still awesome
Is shouting "AHA!" every time you strike encouraged? Because I would totally do this if that was the case.
If you want to
+roman11777 Shout Aha on attack, and "Oh no" on parry.
what are they wearing for chest protection?
Is the throwing down of weapons indicative of anything specific?
I thought the video was sped up...... Then I realized that the fighters are mostly Dons and Warders....
Anyone know who that gentleman in the tan pantaloons is at 2:43? heheheh
Guys look so much better with a sword in their hands,.
Why's that?
Bryan Wheelock Well, because it gives the guy a sense of strength and courage and some women want that in a man.
I like the big battles, single combat is more boring and also I suck lol

It's still cool, at least in my opinion. I am still new to rapier though.
