    Been there done that before all the tech stuff came about, titled pipe layer 1969 to 1978, and worked sanitary sewer, storm drain, water line. During that time operated backhoe rubber tire, track, loaders rubber tire, track, and bulldozers. In construction for 32 yrs and enjoyed most of it except for the rain & mud in winter time. Barry North Carolina. Enjoyed the video thanks brings back memories!

    I noticed in the comments you said you hit rock instead of using a hammer there is an attachment called an Excentric ripper it is sold by Hensley. It is a vibrating ripper.

    How do you like the Komatsu's? What was Gavin running until you needed to set the pipe? Have you ever seen or used a Felco Bedding conveyor? Yeah that guy backfilling I noticed he would dump the dirt from 15' in the air instead of placing it in the trench. Plus I was holding my breath when he was running the roller.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety +1

      We like them they have been very reliable! I'm not sure what the deal was with dropping the dirt like that it was jarring the pipe. If you say something he doesn't change. I haven't used a bedding conveyor but we do have several Felco compaction buckets.

    Why the gravel? i understand if it was to bed the pipe.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes to bed the pipe. The pipe has to have support under the "hunches" to support the weight of the dirt thats on top of it. You can't get dirt backup under the rounded part of the pipe and get it packed so you use the 57 stone and it will flow in the voids and is considered 97 percent packed just by dumping them in there.

    I have done cost estimating for a very long time in the manufacturing world and just in the last year bought a small excavator. If you can give me an idea if I am close you have three excavator one dozer one roller dedicated to one pipeline with skid steer supporting two lines and a gravel truck supporting two lines. Based on the cost of equipment and the amount of labor you have. Does your dad figure it's about 10k a day for each pipe crew for estimating a job of that size plus materials
