TSS is not caused by the “chemicals” in the tampons. It is caused by bacteria breeding in the tampon if left for extended period of time. Also, not because something has “chemicals” in it, it is toxic or harmful.

I don't understand why you would recommend charcoal deodorant? Aluminum is horrible for you, but charcoal, used consistently, has side effects. No one should be placing charcoal on their skin everyday. Your just replacing one bad thing with another.
I think it is best to avoid these types of videos, even if intentions are good. You run the risk of misleading and misinforming your audience. It could prove dangerous in the long run as you have no medical or scientific background.

Not to mention that essential oils can cause sensitivity and are likely worse than most artificial fragrances. Sometimes the alternative is worse than the original. (Essential oils, aluminum, talc, and charcoal are all natural ingredients - what makes ingredients more or less safe has nothing to do with whether they are natural or not.)

Just a PSA as a hairstylist: Yes henna is a "natural" alternative to color. However it is very permanent and once in the hair, you cannot change colors or remove it. The metals in henna do not mix with lightener(bleach). If you want to try to get highlights or strip the color out, please please please tell your hairstylist you use henna before the service starts. A good stylist would ask your history so if they don't you probably don't want them doing your hair anyways but you must share. Personally I would not do any lightener service on hair that has henna as the risk of extreme damage is not worth it. Our salon made it a policy after awhile that we would not lighten(bleach) hair if there was a history of henna. Literally had a girls foils start smoking from the mix of lightener and henna and had to stop the service. Also, it is not natural to alter your hair color so honestly if you do want to color your hair, I suggest going with really good quality products. Otherwise leave your hair natural, because that actually is the most natural thing to do.

I think this might be my first ever comment on CZcams as I never find it necessary to comment on videos because I feel like this is a platform that the creators should be able to express their opinions etc and that there’s always going to be someone out there that has a differing opinion. Saying that, I felt so compelled to comment on the henna that Shea is recommending but you’ve done that already and put it absolutely perfect. I’m a hair stylist in CA and I’ve been doing hair for almost 15 years. I would NEVER work on a client that’s previously used henna on their hair. I wish that a disclaimer had been put in this video that if you choose to go the henna route, please understand the consequences in that many seasoned stylists won’t touch your hair because of the horrific chemical interactions. Thank you for your detailed response and spreading the word. And please, ladies, do your research before applying any at home color on your hair. We are licensed professionals for a reason and it may look easy to just buy a box of something and throw it on your hair but I promise, it really isn’t. There are consequences and if you make a mistake with henna, we simply cannot help you.

I just want to make a point, that henna DOES NOT contain metals naturally. That is not true. Pure henna is just a powdered leaf, 100% natural, but yes, it is permanent. But it does not contain metals. Some brands sell henna with added metals in them, to enhance the colour, so everyone should read the ingredient list and learn about before buying and using. I am dying my hair with henna for years now and my sister (hair dresser) is making highlights into my hair once a year, with no issues, because I use a trusted henna brand with no risks of metal in it.
So I just wanted to point this out :) That the issues you faced or any other person faces came from that.
Hope this will help better to understand this.
But ofc, I tottaly understand the policy you needed to put into your salon, because people can be restless and not making proper research before using henna.

when I was younger and in my hippie days I used Henna to color my hair. That was all I ever used and I loved it. Such soft, shinny hair. Loved it but yes it had to grow out. I never tried to have it removed by bleaching or anything. I think it was real henna, just a powder that smelled strange and was thick and messy to use, but wow what great hair I had. This was in the 70-early 80s.

Left or right it doesn't matter. Political people ABOVE ALMOST ALL OTHERS are NOTORIOUS for using fear mongering and skewing results. When I told them who was behind the website they stopped talking. Lol!! I hate politics! I want facts. Is the article saying eggs have been proven to be the best thing ever to eat and the study was paid for by the Untied Egg Farmers Association? Then you can't trust it. Just look at who is doing the study or writing the article. Who's website is it? How old is it? I was looking up info about inflation and found an article from 2013. Pffft. It's not going to be accurate for today. If the article sites a source, check out the source. It's crazy how quickly these "studies" fall apart once you do a simple fact check. You are partially correct in saying that leaving a tampon in for too long can cause Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), but this is not because of the tampon. Leaving in the same tampon for too long is a breeding ground for the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria release toxins which cause TSS! Shea, we love you. But there are so many misconceptions and lack of information/evidence within this video. Just because something is natural, doesn't make it healthy or better for you. Chemicals aren't bad for you, they're specifically refined and formulated at a lab so they don't harm you. None of the products shown in this video have been proven to cause cancer nor damage any vital organs of the human body. I understand you wanting to try a more "clean" alternative to certain products, but you shouldn't claim something is toxic if you don't know that for sure. You have a big platform and a big audience; both of those things mean you have a huge responsibility when it comes to your content.

Hi! A medical student here (actually getting my MD in a few months). I really feel like this video contains many harmful statements that are not true, which is unfortunate. We should not be afraid to use tampons, for example, since TAMPONS DON'T CAUSE TSS - it's caused by our own vaginal bacteria that thrive if we keep a tampon in for too long. Another cause for TSS is nose packing (even with tissue paper) for nose bleeds that you keep inside your nose for more than a few hours - you wouldn't declare that tissue papers now cause TSS, right? And we all have to stop using tissue papers. It is because, again, it is caused by bacteria thriving on an object we kept in our bodies for too long. Please consult a doctor before uploading or filming these videos. I have personally seen patients come in with these false pretences, and it's so hard to reassure them regarding anything since CZcamsrs and tiktokers they trust keep spreading misinformation like this. I agree with the comments that equating chemicals with toxicity isn’t correct. You can drink enough water to kill you or ingest too much salt and die, so there’s that. But I no longer use antiperspirant, or products with aluminum and instead I use a crystal deodorant that works great. I don’t use fluoride toothpaste, I use a period disc in lieu of tampons (literally life changing- check out Period Nirvana for amazing info on discs and cups). Also, when crude petroleum is refined, PAH’s are removed (because they are indeed carcinogenic, in the EU they require a full disclosure on the refining process to ensure the PAH’s are not present in the petroleum jelly). Petroleum jelly is one of the best occlusive barrier agents for transepidermal water loss and excellent for skin protection, even for sensitive skin. There are so many examples of this in history. We're constantly learning SO MUCH! I don't know why this has be "anti-science" ??? It’s ok to enjoy something “more toxic” because the air we breathe is likely more carcinogenic than any of those. Our cell phones and stress etc are killing us faster than any of these. People are welcome to do their own research after watching your videos! You’re not claiming to be a Dr or scientist. You actually changed my life last year, not to sound dramatic, lol… but really. I’m 38, and I had a horrible bout with cystic acne last year, out of no where. I couldn’t get it to go away. I watched a video of yours where you mentioned that hot dogs & processed meat are known carcinogens, & I went & read up on it, & realized my husband and I ate some form of processed meat daily for that past year! We cut it out, & my acne COMPLETELY cleared up. I think my body had been trying to warn me to stop being lazy and meal prep better:-)

I switched a few months ago - quick hack: I always struggled with getting this into my hair without getting stuck in one spot or making a mess in my bathroom - I bought a kabuki brush and a flat little jar and I shake a little bit of it into the jar and then dip the kabuki brush into it, tap it off, and can spread it throughout my hair so easily! I wanted to switch to powder dry shampoo for years but struggled with how hard it is to use and this hack has been life saving!

Great video! I was excited to hear about your natural hair color product recommendation for grey hair. Unfortunately for me, it contains PPD, which is a common ingredient for darker colors. I am allergic to this ingredient, which is not completely uncommon. The allergy progressed gradually from itching to full on blisters the last time I tried coloring my hair. Blond highlights never caused any problems. I am really happy it works so well for you ; I am still searching for a solution!

That is correct. There are no scientific studies linking aluminum used topically with cancer. None. Zero. There was speculation many years ago about a possible link, but the subsequent studies showed otherwise. It’s frustrating to see these false beliefs still being passed around like old wive’s tales. I’m quite certain companies selling antiperspirants without aluminum are instrumental in keeping the myth alive.

    The dry shampoo!
I’ve been using that exact kind for years. I went from washing my hair daily, even twice sometimes (I live in Phoenix and I’m oily)
Now I can get away without washing for up to 5 days!!! Sometimes may need to apply it twice during those five days but it saves me so much time, energy, water, shampoo etc.
You can sprinkle it on or shake it onto your hands and apply to specific places like behind your ears and the bottom of your scalp
It does look powder at first but work it in or apply before bed. The powdery look goes away within a couple hours depending on how well you work it in but I also feel like it adds volume too
I definitely recommend, this video has a lot of great recommendations. I really strive to use all eco, animal, health friendly products and videos like these help
