um so iâve been smelling bad for no reason then
đ
Me as I walk into the washroom and put on deodorant
I didn't want to be the one to tell you.
FUNNY đđ
Me a few months ago when I did the researchđ€Š
I donât buy into the âaluminum is bad for uâ marketing, but aluminum antiperspirants genuinely irritate my skin, are impossible to wash off unless I shave it off, and leave me with painful, clogged sweat glands. So to that end, Iâm happy thereâs a market of aluminum-free options.
Same. I used to use the standard womenâs aluminum deodorants exclusively, but then I developed a rash that only went away when I switched products. To be honest, I still wish I could use aluminum-containing deodorants. I just donât like having my freedom to choose between products taken away from me.
How can you say all of that and go on to say you dont buy into it ? Aluminum DOES clog people's pores, that is why they put it in. So yes, aluminum is bad for you. Science may not back up that sweating out toxins improves your health but I dont need a scientist to have common sense . Common sense says your body does things a certain way because it NEEDS to!
Elle Mathews She pretty much just said alumina do you odorant clogs your pores to stop it from sweating that doesnât sound right. I mean itâs no different than if you were to use a cleanser or some sort of skin care thing on your face and it clogs your pores you donât want that. Itâs like people saying they use a foundation for their face they clog their pores no skin care or deodorant do you want clocking anywhere on your face or your body. Who want any product that you use on your skin who wants to use skin care or deodorant or foundation who wants to use want the clog your pores. No one does all my gosh this foundation or the skin care product quite my pores and itâs good for my skin like no. Anything to clog the pores is bad. We may not like the smell we may not like sweating but anything it clogs it stops it from happening thatâs not a good sign. I have never heard anyone say that natural deodorant is bad for you and that the aluminum kind is better for you because it clogs your pores to stop it from sweating like you want to sweat thatâs a normal good thing. If you donât normally sweat a lot or sweat much thatâs fine but if youâre someone who sweats a lot and use a deodorant the clogs your pores and stopped you from sweating I would find that a little bit odd.
Elle Mathews so she says thatâs good you want a deodorant has aluminum and clog your pores. Are use a natural deodorant itâs not for everybody but I donât wanna use a deodorant thatâs clogging my pores
aluminum deodorants give my cysts under my arms!! so i canât use it
Ive used regular deodorant for most of my life and it turned my pits dark and it caused swollen clogged pores which was painful at times. Switching to non aluminum has cleared these issues for me. I still sweat with the non aluminum but i dont stink which is what i am looking for. Sweating is natural. This has been my experience. Everyone is different.
see for me I hate sweating. It's an ADHD texture issue. I hate it so much, but I think I'm reacting to my Al-based deodorant
@@m1nt8168 I also have sensory issues and feeling the sweat is just đ„Ž.
I had the same problem. Swollen and painfully clogged pores! I will never ever go back to using aluminum based deodorants again. Also I don't stink either. Sweating is a natural function.
Iâve used anti-perspirant my whole life and Iâve never had an issue like this. I see a lot of comments saying that they had issues with it but also a lot of comments saying that they donât. Could it be a sensitivity to it that you might have that other people donât? I think sometimes we try to have a one size fits all solution, but people are different.
shower gel should get it off
I get deep bumps in my armpits from aluminum deodorant. When I switched to natural I never got them again. Native has been a lifesaver!
Yep yep. I used to have irritation in my pits from shaving and after using Native that doesnât happen anymore.
How does it so with wetness? No matter what I always have sweat pits
@@kittykraze2350 honestly same⊠I switched over and I stilll get wetness. Have you tried Schmidtâs as well?
I love native! No matter what scent I use from their brand, they always held up so well all day and I never get odor from sweating. I know aluminum can be beneficial to people who sweat way more than the average person but I've also sweat a pretty decent amount and I find it normal although I do end up showering when I get home. I feel like as long as I don't stink and don't hug anyone when I'm sweaty then I can manage (or just wipe some of the sweat off in the restroom if i can).
Aluminum is not dangerous. The aluminum used in traditional deodorants and sprays is binded to chlorine, which is what makes it dangerous and gives you side effects. Technically your chlorine deodorant was also natural.
The only reason I use natural deodorant is for their low-waste packaging! I wish more main stream brands would get on board with low-waste.
Good point. Lush Cosmetics has deodorants that they sell as bars, like soap, so it can definitely be done. Obv being Lush it's mostly essential oils, but worked quite well for years for me personally.
I agree. Companies should change their packaging not necessarily their ingredients
Absolutely this. Natural deodorants never work for me but I keep being tempted by a new one that just came out because you pay for an applicator container and then you just buy low-waste refills for it. It's a great idea. I want to be able to use products that actually get the job done without having to deal with so much plastic.
yeesssssss
I agree the only reason I use it is for low waste, you would think that now companies would produce a low waste system
If you use a womenâs clinical strength deodorant, you should know menâs Mitchum unscented gel is just as strong and less than half the cost.
2workigo a lot of the âunscentedâ deodorants contain masking fragrance. Just FYI!!
My husband uses the Mitchum unscented roll on and it has benzoyl peroxide in it and it works great for him. But the gel doesn't have that ingredient in it đ€·
Yes thatâs what l have just recently realised that menâs deodorant works better and is usually cheaper.
I use Mitchum women deorant it's alright I should try the mens
@@devonpatel the men's version does not have fragrance, the roll on version in the green bottle
I don't like greenwashing, but my doctor found a direct link between swollen lymph nodes under my arm related to aluminum in the brand name deodorant I was using. That was a wakeup call.
How did he find the correlation? That can't be determined without research
What was the brand
I get em too with The Body Shop antiperspirant rolls.
Iâve heard this as well. I can only use ânaturalâ deodorants as Iâm allergic to aluminum. Before natural deodorants became more mainstream, my armpits were literally covered in red bumps, hives, rashes, etc. since I started wearing deodorant when I hit puberty. I tried natural deodorant last year for the first time when I was 21 and Iâm just grateful I donât get rashes anymore. I always thought it was just something I kind of had to live with
I used to get them havenât in the last year and a half when I switched to native
I have tried 4 different ânaturalâ deodorants over the last few months and I have never been so funky. Thank God I work from home. I canât take it anymore Iâm switching back
Maybe you can try armpits detox for a few weeks before switching to natural deodorants.
Don't listen to the stupid detox comment. Whatever deodorant works for you just works for you.
@@semantick I had actually tried detoxing with the clay masks months ago and natural deodorants still didnât work for me. But my $1.50 Suave Tropical Paradise does the job every time
Iâve tried so many different natural deodorants done the detoxing âtricksâ over the past 2 years and I still be smelling a hot mess.
Try driclor
I used antiperspirants all throughout my childhood and suffered from large painful cysts, itchy rashes, and really dark hyperpigmentation that was very unattractive. All of that stopped once I started using natural deodorants that didn't include aluminum. & TBH I barely even need to wear deodorant anymore. Everybody's body is just different.
Yeah, same.
Same, I used "clinical strength" antipersperant, got marble- sized painful cysts in my pits, and started stinking no matter how often I applied. For 8 years I made my own deodorant, and it helped me and now I use Native and don't stink, don't hurt, and don't itch.
You might want to read my comments. I agree w/you. Everybody's different. Aluminum affects some of us !
I used spray on deodorant as a kid and broke out in bad rashes that were itchy. I used white deodorant and it stained my clothes yellow in the pits. I used the gel and it globbed and dripped down all in my clothes. Now I am in between Native for winter and sauve roll on for thay extra boost in the summer and doing fine.
If you used it after you shaved that's probably why.
I was listening to an interview with the ceo of Schmidtâs and she was like âoh when people switch over to natural deodorant youâll experience a bad smell or irritation and itâs totally normalâ uhh no that means your product doesnât work
Ya, at a fair, i was told that people who switch to "natural" will smell bad during a transitional period of detox and getting used to it for a couple weeks.
Then after continued use our bodies will adjust and itll work. I couldnt go 2 weeks of stink cuz well i am around other people lol...but i know someone who only uses non-aluminum or nothing for over a year and they still smell all the time!
No actually, it's true. At least for many people. I've been using natural deodorants for years now and don't have any problems anymore (as remember having when I first started).
My mum was even able to ditch deodorants altogether after a short adjustment period. She said it was really bad the first few days - but now she can go without without producing bad odors.
@@user-sg8bk2ko4r oh ok, suppose it just varies from person to person and how much sweat and bacteria is created.
I switched over to natural deodorant about 3 years ago, for the first couple weeks I stunk, I also had a rash. Now all I use is natural deodorant, and I can switch between any natural deodorant brand and I donât have any reactions or smell anymore, I also donât get as bad of shaving irritation.
It worked for me as far as odor went but the irritation was so painful I couldn't handle it. They have a sensitive skin formula that caused no irritation, but it just didn't work for odor, lol!
Baking soda deodorants rip my underarms up...I full on thought I had a yeast rash going on but it was the baking soda.
Same happened to me. I honestly thought I was bitten by a tick when I woke up to a circular rash under my arm. I scheduled a visit with my doctor and by the time I got there, I had the same rash under both armpits! I had a reaction to the baking soda in my Native deodorant đ©
Yeah same, you can find or even make deo without bailing sida, but it's in soooo many brands. I'm from the UK and use Uovo deo, it has no baking soda and works all reet for me đ
@@TwelvetreeZ Iâm going to have to look up that deodorant. Native made a sensitive one that is baking soda free and it works well for me too.
Same here. I tried countless brands, even those with low/no baking soda formulated for sensitive skin, and eventually I'd break out in a rash again. I finally went back to using regular antiperspirant and haven't had any issues outside of occasional eczema flare ups.
@@theshunnedBandersnatch I switched back too! Even the baking soda free deodorants were giving me a rash. I gave up.
Studies can be bought out and paid. No independent studies have been done. Remember when Doctors used to recommend smoking/cigarettes', yeah I rather not risk it.
Very true. Hard to trust big pharma.
@gramps just put banking soda and lime that'll kill the bacteria

I'm so glad I found you and stopped feeling guilty about wearing "normal" deodorant. Its really nice as a pregnant lady, who's due in July, to not be stinky when theres so many other uncomfortable things also happening with my body. Thanks for sharing the truth, Dr. Dray!
Haylee Baird-Lira I like the natural deodorant I normally use works a treat.. but during pregnancy it simply doesnât work and Iâm with you in not being stinky and I go back to normal deodorant during my pregnancies!!
Iâm due in July too! Iâve had so much trouble finding a deodorant that doesnât bother my pits
Kriana Phaly have you tried Kopari? I have gone through so many natural and not deodorants and my skins really sensitive but this has been the best for me. No irritation, no staining clothes!
Yea, well this video is just full of bull shit. Sweating is essential for your body to get rid of toxins. Saying otherwise is just perpetuating the problem. Im pregnant and due in 14 days, and i have only used natural deodorant during my pregnancy and didnt smell, and i feel comfortable

I tried a natural deodorant with essential oils and my armpits were red, irritated and felt like they were burning. đ
Did it contain baking soda? I used a baking soda containing deodorant, and it literally made my underarms burn, and peel. After healing, I used the same brands baking soda's free deodorant, and it works perfectly fine for me.
Same with me. My armpits were so itchy when i tried natural deodorant. :(
I don't like aluminum in my deodorant because it can stain white shirts

Suddenly, out of nowhere about two years ago, I developed an allergy to deodorant. Skin rash that is so itchy and raw that was a nightmare, switched brands a bunch of times to no avail. One thing that definitely needs to be studied is how as women our hormones fluctuate and I wonder if that plays a factor in how something works then doesnât for women
@@indicajane4721 I couldnât agree more! This started only about a year after I had been diagnosed as entering peri-menopause and I had stopped producing progesterone naturally. I was put on hormone replacement for a time and I always thought there might be a connection to my rollercoaster of hormones during that time! Iâve long been off the progesterone and Iâm further along in menopause but this deodorant allergy is still a persistent issue for me. So I think you might be onto something! The only thing I can use is Aluminum free, anything else causes a severe itch and angry rash. đ©
I just wish there was a regular deodorant that wasn't encased in plastic that's not recyclable.
Idk if you live in the US but the Targets near me started selling deo in cardboard containers. I know this comment is old but just a PSA :)
i love how the comments are split. đ
but i am on team native. i like the plastic-free cases they have, the scents are great, and i have no funky issues. i didnt have any funky issues to begin with, but im less sweaty when i use them. so it's def to each their own!
i use their deodorant as well and I love it!
Does it still work for you? I can't even make it seven or eight hours with Native deodorant before I start to stink.
Native works for me too....I don't smell, the only things is I still sweat. đą
Would love a skincare routine for the underarms!! Or something like, "how to reduce darkness under the armpits"
Aluminum darkens your armpits. Since Iâve switched to natural deodorant, my underarms have lightened up tremendously, and I no long have yellow stains in my white shirts. If natural deodorant isnât your thing, try glycolic acid by the ordinary. It works great as a deodorant, and is perfect for lightening your armpits.
Tbh I donât get why people care about dark armpits. Like a lot of people ask about that. I have never looked at someone and thought about the shade of their armpits
Listen, all I know is for the years Iâve been without using conventional deodorant I no longer have swollen nodules under my underarm.
Me too! I used to get such bad in grown hairs, now I dont!
This is so true. I switched up to a natural deodorant and I havenât had swollen sh*ts on my armpit and I donât even smell too
me too!
Yup. I tried every single âsensitive skinâ conventional deodorant/unscented antipersperant out there trying to in something that didnât aggravate my pits. After a doctor told me there was nothing I could do to treat or prevent nonstop boils besides warm hot compresses, I switched to ânaturalâ deodorant. It took me years to find something that worked for the smell and didnât have too much baking soda to irritate my skin, but I have not had a single boil since.
@@JHabc what do you use now?
I tried to use Schmidt's "natural" deodorant, which contains essential oils. Within days I developed medium-sized lumps in my armpits, which had never happened before. I switched to a non-natural deodorant and have had no issues since.
Me too! I tried one of those Native deodorants and I got a painful lump on my armpit.
I stopped using it and the lump went away.
Megan so did I!!!
When you lump, do you mean like a cyst? Or was it something else? That's so scary! Im glad it went away on its own.
My armpits got really dark when I used it ! I hated that but it worked so well
Megan yup same thing happened to me! I tried it a couple times....lumps every time.
Speaking personally, when I stopped using antiperspirants I stopped getting hyperhydrosis. It was counter intuitive. I do not believe aluminium is bad and I know you are totally right about bicarbonate of soda.
I find the wasteful and horrible smelling mass produced stuff in crappy plastic packing really annoying - that's driving my choises. I have heard good things about some acid toners though.
I completely agree. I kept going higher and higher percentage of aluminum in my deodorant to combat hyperhidrosis. One day I started worrying more about alzheimers because that shit is scary as hell to me. I started using aluminum free and found my sweating actually decreased greatly. After a while I switched to lume natural and found it eliminates odors better than any prescription strength dermatologist stuff. The only reason I want to switch back is to save money lol.
I know I am late on this one, but acid toners work very well! I use a benzoyl peroxide wash and The Ordinary makes a glycolic acid toner that works really well for an amazing price! Buy a little spray bottle to pour the toner in and spray it! Also helps with ingrown hairs! But then menopause đ I am back to aluminum deodorant because I smell like a teenager hitting puberty again! And the Alzheimerâs thing has been disproven on many levels, donât let people fear monger you!

there's another reason people use natural deodorants: they don't stain clothing. probably my biggest reason. some deos stain clothing!
they also don't deodorize
Maybe youâre rolling too much on if itâs staining your clothes ?
The "natural" deodorant I used stained and completely ruined so many of my tops.
@@kittykatana I have SOOOOO many Greasy Stains on my shirts from Natural Deodorants
Yes! I always had that issue with regular deodorants. I actually went with the "natural" ones for a while and it stopped. But I couldn't find one that worked in hot summers so I had to switch back. I was reminded then that they will either stain your armpits or leave a lasting odor that is hard to wash out. I just started using Each & Every and it works really well. No odor or stains! :) But I do agree with the video about false marketing and propaganda around "the dangers" of aluminum.
Love your channel! So informative â€ïž Iâm an OBGYN and I donât really remember a whole lot about skin from medical school and my very short derm rotation. Iâve cut down on the number of products I use everyday because of the advice youâve given and my skin has never looked better. Thanks!
I'm a final-year medical student and I barely know anything about skin either lol. I think we just learn about the serious stuff in med school. We barely even spend any time on rosacea, let alone caring for healthy skin.
Some natural deodorants are wonderful and some are bogus. Just like with anything in life, I don't think antagonizing one side and going all the way to the other side is healthy. Just my experience.
I agree with you completely
Clever people come together on the clever comment. We always thought that science will never be manipulative but everything serves industry nowadays so im never gonna let my pores to clog. Preventing the glands from doing their work is hella scary
I agree but I also think that thinking that antiperspirants are completely safe is wrong, I mean sure if you have a sweat issue go for it, but for long term use there arenât any studies even looking at that. And look at the story of asbestos for example, it was used for so long for insulation in homes, and now it has been shown to have a direct link to cancer! So there are many things that have not been intensively studied or even understood, so unless itâs absolutely needed itâs best to limit the use. Even Acetaminophen for example, itâs so commonly to take yet its odd that scientists still do not know the mechanism of action! So they donât know where it acts in our bodies and many ppl take it so casually!
I think this fails to consider that when you change deodorants, the bacteria that your underarms are hospitable to changes; when you remove aluminum deodorants from the mix (many of which have similar formulations and can be fed on by the same kinds of bacteria), you potentially change the microflora in your underarms.
I used aluminum deodorants for 15 years and always felt like they made me smell/sweat more and regularly damaged my clothes; the more âpowerfulâ (clinical strength) I used, the worse it got. When I switched to natural deodorants 10 years ago I went through about a pretty sweaty month where it was a difficult adjustment, and then after that (and some experimenting with brands), it was like a switch flipped and I found that I sweat less (significantly so, as in an 80+% reduction in wetness and the longer I went some days it seems like I practically donât sweat at all), it takes about 24 hours or more now for my underarms to smell from sweat (with aluminum deos I could smell after a few hours if I was hot). Even at times when natural deodorants donât stop me from sweating, it doesnât bother me because *it virtually never smells* (never any BO smell, sometimes just a plain Shea butter type smell) so I just need to let my underarms get some air and itâs fine. Natural deodorants were game changing for me, and I donât know anyone else whose experience hasnât mirrored mine once they stuck through that ~1month adjustment period.
Hi! Im super interested in switching uo to natural deodrsbts, is there one u recommend the most?:)

This is by far my favorite video. With that said, I've incorporated benzoyl peroxide into my underarm and foot regimen, it really works to fight odor (I use a Walgreen benzoyl peroxide bar and love it).
My skin literally peeled off. It was red, irritated, and so tender. Couldnât wear any deodorant for weeks, had to heal first. Gosh and it hurt so much. Never will try ânatural deodorantâ. Never ever.
Lesly same thing happened to me last Summerđ© Sweat on that raw skin was painful!!!
That happened to me too
Itâs the baking soda! I got it too. Baking soda burn is so painful.
Lesly the exact same thing happened to me it was like a burn, my skin turned red then brown and then peeled off
Lesly yuppp. Plus I started breaking out in my armpits. Huge cyst like demons. I tried the native sensitive deodorant and it all went away. Definitely the baking soda
Iâm gonna be completely honest- I donât wear deodorant when I donât work. I just donât feel like I need it, so instead of wasting money on natural deodorants which I know wonât work for me, I go deodorant-free.
I do the same. I think a lot of people don't really NEED it. Maybe they start using strong antiperspirant during puberty when their sweat glands are in overdrive and then carry on without realising that they don't sweat so much anymore. Lifestyle is also a factor.
birch tree Exactly. I remember being a super sweaty teen and now in my 30s I donât sweat as much.

Hi Dr Dray, love your videos. đ. I was in South East Asia recently and came across this crystal roll-on deodorant.
It is claimed to be great for sensitive skin and does not clog up pores. Made with natural mineral. Can be used on underarm area, behind the knees, on the neck or feet.
It is said to be a pure & natural mineral salt (wondering what is this??), No Aluminum Chlorohydrate, alcohol & fragrance-Free; suitable for sensitive skin.
Use by wetting the top surface of the crystal stone with water and apply to clean dry skin. Could you please comment on this type of products. Thanks.
I had to switch to aluminum free (even fragrance free deodorant with aluminum) options and I would get huge painful lumps under my underarms :( It didn't matter whether it was gel, spray on, etc you name it. As soon as I switched I haven't had any of those problems, and I don't stink at all. The deodorant I use right now is Crystal 24 hr Mineral Deodorant Roll-On and it works perfect for me. I guess it just varies from person to person!
THANK YOU. I tried making the âswitch.â & let me tell you. Worst mistake ever. After 2 weeks, my armpits were RED. INFLAMED . & then turned BLACK 2 weeks later. They hurt so bad. I could barely function. Didnât realize how much my arms swing when doing normal everyday tasks until I was hurting! For those wondering, I tried Kopari. Unscented formula too!

Same. Mine cracked and peeled, it was so awful.
If you shower twice a day. Putting the antiperspirants at night, do you wash it off? Or wipe off then shower? Iâm basically asking if taking a shower affects the antiperspirant at night?
Just because thereâs no evidence, doesnât mean itâs not harmful. Companies are not going to voluntarily fund research. They just want $
Companies also make up problems to get you to buy products though. The ânaturalâ products industry preys on that.
I love my native because my armpits donât get hyperpigmentation. I always had cyst with regular deodorant/anti-perspirant. I used make my own deodorant and was fine but I need more lasting power so native works for me.
honestly tho i used other deodorants (non natural) and they never kept me from not smelling like they last like an hour max and as soon as i started using native it actually lasted so much longer for me and didnât irritate my skin

I'm so glad you hear this because l love my aluminum antiperspirant ! None of the so called natural deodorants ever worked and l just frustrated myself so much because of the sweat, smells and stickyness. Glad l can just continue using my lovely antiperspirant

The main reason I wanted to switch was because I really thought aluminum caused breast cancer and I didnât want to increase my risk. I tried a natural deodorant years ago and the MUST knocked me clean out. I switched back so fast. Now I use clinical strength and itâs amazing! The aluminum doesnât bother me! I fell for the ânaturalâ advertising a while ago and let me tell you: Iâve been using regular antiperspirant for years and it was a rather harsh one since it contains a lot of fragrance. Anyway, obviously it had aluminum in it, so I switched to a natural one. It didnât work at all, Iâd be better of without putting anything on my armpits and it caused a rash that was really hard to get rid off (I donât have sensitive skin and have never had a problem like that with any cosmetics).
Same thing with a ânaturalâ face scrub - it made my skin really mad.
So now Iâm back to using my regular stuff, which also happens to be 4 times cheaper.
The rash could have been your skin trying to adjust going from your regular routine to natural deo.
Was there baking soda in the natural deodorant? Because that can cause a rash. Little seee farm is a good natural brand but itâs a paste. Washing with 10% benzoyl peroxide a let it sit on armpits then wash will keep on smell good for almsot whole day. After that you can go back to just aluminum free regular deodorant or wear none. The 10% benzoyl peroxide changes everything in the smell game itâs perfect
I had breast tumors removed last year and my surgeon and radiologist both told me to use an aluminum free deodorant.
Same here. What's worse is that I am the type that has to wear the clinical strength because i sweat and smell off the charts if i don't. So, I am at a loss.
Exactly!!!! I am so sorry you had to go through that, but glad you had those tumors found and removed!

Momma Goth I was the exact same way. I would sweat through anything. But I think my body was addicted to aluminum. Sounds crazy but my pores were so clogged with aluminum and conventional deodorant. I used alcohol pads under my arms the first couple weeks to clean and help with B.O. but now Iâm fine. Iâve used natural deodorant for over a year now and I actually sweat less. I think my body just kept needing more and more aluminum. Sounds crazy, but thatâs what happened to me. Canât explain it.
HK Stans Thank you! I just had to miss my follow up appt because of all this COVID stuff, but so far everything seems good. And I have no problems with natural deodorant at all. I found a brand that works for me. Doctors always have a different opinion on what causes certain things... my gyno and surgeon have differing opinions on birth control. But either way, Iâm going to keep using natural deodorant to do everything in my power to prevent more tumors.
i think it's important to remember that natural (made with plant extracts etc) isn't always better, but it's also not always worse. some deodorants that are marketed as natural are baking soda-free and work better for some people. do your research, determine what works best for you, and don't avoid all natural skincare products on the basis that the "natural" skincare community tends to use pseudoscience and essential oils. there are many responsible brands out there that don't fit that stereotype, and small amounts of essential oils aren't detrimental to everyone.

I feel like Iâm one of the few that havenât had any issues with ânaturalâ deodorants. I use little seed farm deodorant cream and keep native in my backpack in case I forget to put some of my cream on. I get compliments on my smell and have no smell after a heavy workout, whereas I had massive rashes and burning with deodorant that had any aluminum in it and always stunk after a few hours.

I have a question. I would like to experiment with 'natural' deodorant. What would you then suggest we could formulate at home that will suffice, charcoal, calcium carbinate etc?
Dr. Dray! I love your videos! How do you feel about potassium alum deodorants, particularly in stone form? Iâve been using one for a couple years now and I think itâs so effective at preventing odor. I donât think everyone who uses ânaturalâ deodorants is irrationally fearful of aluminum. Using the potassium alum deodorant doesnât leave skin tacky or with a weird white film or stained clothing. Do you think itâs a safe alternative deodorant option?
I see people sometimes recommend a BHA like stridex or other acids for under the arms. Would this be effective like panoxyl?
I use Stridex, very handy. Glycolic is ok also...the big bottle from The Ordinary.

Yeah benzoyl peroxide kills bacteria and I don't think acids do that, but they make work for some people by exfoliating the skin

I just started using LumÄ. I donât care what that stuff has in it, I wonât stop using it! Iâve had no irritation and I donât stink⊠like, at all! Iâm using the fragrance free version & love it.
I love that stuff, i hope they never stop making it!!!
Honestly, I still stink using it! đ I think Iâm just too smelly for Lume. I was so excited about it too for using it in my private parts lol but I think my stink is just too strong đȘ đ
@Aletheia Backs The creator of LumÄ says to âprepâ your clothes too. LumÄ is water based where other deodorants/antiperspirants (natural or not) are wax or oil based. They âmeltâ into your clothes and do not wash out easily & can maintain previously trapped odors that will rear their ugly heads when you sweat⊠regardless of what deodorant youâre wearing. So to prep your clothes, you can use Natureâs Miracle (an enzyme spray made to clean animal stains & odors) or use Persil as a laundry detergent. With the spray, you can spray the under arms of your clothes when you take them off (I spray my undies, too) and just toss it in the laundry. You donât have to wash them right away, the spray will not mess up your clothes.
I also love Lume!! Iâve tried Native, Schmidts, etc but Lume is the only ânaturalâ deodorant that doesnât irritate my skin and works! Nothing stops my sweat, even the heavy duty aluminum antiperspirants. But Lume does eliminate odor. Plus no more gross deodorant stains on my shirts
I completely agree lol. I refuse to use aluminum (unpopular opinion and don't care) and Lume as well as the Arm and Hammer , and Primal Pit Paste ones are my fav ever and I loveeeeeee them. End of story for me đ

Really annoying but the deodorant is amazing.
Just use aluminum deodorants before u go to sleep, not in the morning. U will not have any stains on ur clothes

Iâm so glad you did this video because I bought native deodorant to try out and my armpits became discolored so not only are natural deodorants irritating but theyâre expensive so Iâm just gonna go back to my old spice deodorant
I honestly had a huge difference when switching to primal pit paste. Itâs a natural deodorant Iâve been using for over 3 years now and itâs helped 100% with odor. I felt like the other antiperspirants left a film I could feel and not scrub off even when showering. To each their own and I am not even like a person who falls for stuff like that but I was willing to try anything and it did help FOR SURE.
This is so reassuring! I purchased some natural deodorant because regular deodorant was failing me. I had tried so many different brands, also solids and spray ons. I loved the spray on because I didn't have that film form solid deodorant! I love how bare I feel with the natural. I have only been wearing it for 2 days so I hope this will be what I've been needing!
This is why I switched to natural deodorant! With my normal antiperspirants I literally could not get it off in the shower, and it would keep building up and I would smell awful. No matter how much I scrubbed it never came off completely. I switched to natural almost 8 months ago and itâs been amazing. I had an adjustment period, but it was well worth it! I smell great, I still sweat, and it comes off easily in the shower!

I find with myself personally, that ânaturalâ deodorants made me have an odor. Iâve tried everything from Dr.Teals, Schmidtâs, to Native and I always noticed an odor during the day that I never experienced with others such as Dove or Secret. I'm definitely one of those people who fell into the natural deodorant that is better for you club. My sister uses it for what she says is her thyroid issue, and I heard all these stories about aluminum being linked to cancer, so I figure I'd give it a try. I also developed cysts in my breast and thought maybe it was a contributor. Have you heard anything about cysts and aluminum products? Just like you mentioned, I did notice one natural brand that actually made me smell worse and I had to throw it out. I'm using a different natural brand now but when I run out I'm going back to my usual aluminum brand after watching this video. Thanks.

I'm honestly glad that there are more natural deodorants out there because I am highly allergic to any kind of metal. My poor armpits got so shredded up from the allergic reactions I was having from using aluminum based anti-perspirants. I understand that this doesn't apply to everyone, but I just can't wear them at all
Thank you, Dr. Dray, for this video (and all your videos). I've learned so much from them!
Regarding this topic, I bought my first Vanicream anti-perspirant years ago & have always had a good experience with it.
Recently, I've seen ads for a product called Lume. The company makes a version that is free of essential oils, baking soda, and aluminum. I'd love to hear you review this product, that the company claims is based on science.
Thanks again for this helpful video.
If you apply antiperspirant at night - can you shower in the morning or would you need to reapply it?
Thank you SO much!!! I can't even describe how helpful this was. My old deodorant had just run out and I have incredibly sensitive skin and I just wasn't sure what I should buy, hence my watching this video. It was so helpful. I ended up buying a sensitive skin formula of dove made with aluminum, which is what I had been using before because it worked great!
Many doctors claim that aluminum can cause breast cancer, not just internet warriors. There's a factory in my town that makes some type of aluminum product, and majority of workers develop some kind of cancer after 15 years of working. So, here, I understand that people are somewhat concious when it comes to aluminum. I don't use natural deoderant, but I use Nivea aluminum free. It works well, I'm not much of a sweater.
Amen!!! Knowledge is power!!!!
I think maybe the way in which you are exposed to aluminum may also have to do with it? like it might be different if you are somewhere where it is being mass produced where you might come into contact with it in ways besides applying it topically to a small area of the body and in lower concentrations. but also not sure about long-term use i guess lolol

The only reason I switched over was because the ânaturalâ deodorants tend to be cruelty free. I kept hearing the fear mongering comments from people about aluminum, but I never took a stance because the comments are just that, opinions from random people, not professionals. I donât even use deodorant that often. Maybe once a year. I have no body odor but I found Piper Wai helpful to prevent sweating, thatâs handy on a hot day.
