I remember meeting Lee Murray back in 2000/2001. I was training at a club in a leisure centre in Strood, Kent. The club at the time mostly specialised in wrestling and BJJ. Despite his fearsome reputation, he was a gentleman on the mat. He was friends with the head trainer and respectful to all the trainees

@@mattlegg1976 That’s interesting, Matt. I can’t bear hearing my own voice either. Lots of people are like that, presumably because our voice sounds different on tape from when we are speaking. Mine sounds grating and tinny and my way of speaking sounds insincere to me. Take it from me that your voice is fine (and mine probably is too.). We are probably too self-conscious. Better than being arrogant though.

I’m from Woolwich, I used to live on Barnfield estate (projects) and used to train in gordon’s Gym, on Herbert, same gym as Lee, Lee was a lot older than us, but trust me he was a absolute animal, and scary.. he had the whole manner on lock specially, back in them days it wasn’t a joke
Dana White , in an interview said that Lee Murray was probably the most intimidating wildman he had met with the UFC. In a sport full of intimisating wildmen that is some endorsement. Great video Matt.

It's true. I said to someone a while ago that I think the UFC has peaked. They committed to doing far too many events each year. More and more I find pretty boring. There's too many younger people who have all been trained the exact same way and are just trying to win the round. A lot of the time they're just hard sparring basically.

Me and Lee trained quite a few times together.
We were introduced to each other by dexter Casey who live near him and also trained MMA, me and dexter already trained together.
I first trained with lee when dexter brought him down to where I regularly trained and after that we trained at peacocks when he was due to fight mark weir but the fight got cancelled and we trained together at keddles gym.
Lee was always very respectful to me and infact due to him praising me up I used to teach a lot of his pals from the area he was from.
Lee 100% had the skills to become a big fighter but like that 1% he was a character and of course we know about that robbery in tonbridge.
He was super fit and could bang and his grappling was pretty decent, I remember him saying to me that his grappling was to help him to be able to strike and Lee had incredible power in his hands, and not seen in fight but he had a solid kick, I remember holding the Thai pads in the back room at peacocks whist he was kicking and it was hurting my forearms😂
RE: the anderson silva fight, Lee said to me that the anderson who was southpaw threw a left kick at beginning of match that connected with lees right arm and pretty much rendered it useless, in as much as lee could not throw his best weapon with 100% power.
Shame he was involved in other stuff outside the gym but that was made him what he was I guess.
Also from same area as lee and a friend of his was mark epstein who was a great fighter and one of the nicest fellas I trained with.
Respect to Lee Hasdell too as he was one of the first in uk and did quite a few fights, and he put on some decent mma shows in Milton Keynes which was in a boxing ring which I also managed to compete on
Some great times and stories with these boys in the gym and at fight shows.
I don’t condone crime but a peodo gets a third of the time of a person that robs the “queens money” the system is not right, Lee has been in there since 2006?

Very well put! I grew up in the 90s when Lee was fresh out jail! I witnessed two of his street fights and heard him tell one infamous fight in bexletheath where he starched around 8-10 dudes outside a bar. His hands were ruined. Lee was a real good brother very polite unless you have him a reason to turn into a nightmare. I recall Dexter he used to come to Gordon's gym in Woolwich. Also mark Epstein another local menace. I see him starch a man on two different occasions. Shame to see what happened to Paul Allan he too was a beast and was and still is a top brother. The met had an agenda to ruin lee and the scumbags succeeded.

Murray actually had an account on Sherdog and used to post on forums about his street fights and other stuff, this was around 2004/2005 and you can probably find some of them still on the Internet.
Definetly 1 of the UKs best fighters and fearless also, My opinion he would be a match for anyone on the cobbles..

Have you ever heard of Leigh Alliss? He was the local hard man round my area. Top 10 in the British boxing ranks in his day and also won a cage fighting tournament with a Rear naked choke of all things. An absolute animal of a man, also has a controversial background to a certain extent

Hello Matt, great channel thank you for your great work. Just wanted to ask you if you have heard of an Irish man former bare knuckle boxer named Seamus O'Donnell? I used to work for him, he runs a demolition excavation company in Sydney Australia called Nass Services and I met him a few times. He's about 6 foot 3 ropey hard boned type build looks well hard. He tried to appeal the original 10 year sentence, then they increased it to 25 years as a punishment.
I know some people that were friends/acquaintances with him in the Dartford area, who were pretty heavy themselves and they've told me some stories about him back in the day, can't say what they said, but he was the real deal for sure.

@@mattlegg1976 he was UFC middleweight 185lbs so prob walked around about 200lbs so your right would of been a lot smaller than some of the big men mentioned but had the most skills by far. I think he beats a lot of the bigger guys on the street regardless. Great video on him 👍
