I had a beer with Jerry in '07 in Cornwall. Jerry was a quietly spoken man with a friendly disposition. Lovely bloke. Proper splann den.
Ah brilliant, what a memory. Thank you 👍🥊
Two greats there Matt. Jerry "The Terminator" Collins , he didnt take many prisoners, hard as fook played for the Ospreys down here in Swansea, what a player, im pretty sure he was sat in a pub down in devon and they didnt have a telly , so Jerry went out to local shop and bought one and took it back to the pub, Jonah played for Cardiff at one time but at the end of his career, I remember him in a Guiness advert , he was sat in this kiosk in a pub in dublin, no one knew he was in there, the punters put a coin in and a rugby ball come out with Jonahs signature, then after about an hour he came out of the kiosk, punters couldnt believe it, its on youtube , 2 great humble men, sadly gone
Thank you mate. That's right, I learnt some of that during this video.
I did see that advert, it was lovely to see 🥊👊
@@mattlegg1976 cheers Matt keep up the good work, we all appreciate it 👍
Absolute legends of our game, and gentlemen, I've got a signed photo of Jonah, and still saddened from their loss.
I remember watching Jonah play for Papakura vs Waiuku (my home club) he had 1 guy on his back, 1 guy around his hips and 1 guy wrapped around a leg and was still going forward until a 4th came in to finally put him down. Just a beast, RIP big guy.
Was working on a house 3 doors down from Jonahs, he made me and the other 2 boys lunch and sat with us for smoko. Also met Jerry and Ma'a Nonu out clubbing in Wellington, Jerry asked me for a smoke, i told him it would stunt his growth he laughed then gave me the death stare. I quickly handed the packet over😂 RIP Legends!
🤣 Brilliant memories, of the legends 👍💪
BS, I knew Jerry well and never saw him smoke.
@@chrisstuart1227 well i didnt know him at all but not only did i give him one, i joined! him so your either full of it or he didnt like your vibes, im also not here to prove my story but for someone that knew Jerry well as you claim, how is it you never heard Ma'a Nonu talking about Jerrys smoking days at his funeral you foolish shmuck?
I met Jonah Lomu in Cardiff in 2006 - he was such a nice, modest and humble man. He was absolutely huge. Great video 👍👍
Great to see so many tough humble Polynesians Jonah Jerry Tonga and Garry Spiers 👍🏼
Felt quite emotional watching that same as you 1995 lasts long in my memory. Wat a brilliant video and music awesome aswell. Rip both men
It was emotional mate, good men, passed away too soon.
Thank you Ben 🥊👍
What a video as a New Zealand born Samoan I’m a huge fan of Lomu and Collins and I’ve always loved the story of Collins and Barnstaple rugby club such an awesome story and showcasing of a world famous rugby player with a humble heart Rest In Peace Lomu and Collins 💙❤️
Thank you so much for leaving a message. Especially as you are also a NZ born Samoan, it really means a lot to me 🥊👍👊❤️
Imagine Jerry Collin’s shoulder hitting your rib cage at full force.
Jonah in that World Cup gave arguably the greatest performances we have seen on a Rugby field.
Jonah was so special
Just smashed everything and anyone in front of him
Jerry, was a beast
RIP
Both
He was special 🥊👍
Collins played at the ospreys ,he was an absolute monster ,also a gentleman.Lomu was just lomu an absolute terror on the field.RIP you will always be remembered for on and off the pitch. Greatness.gREAT VID CHEERS MATT FROM AN OSPREY FAN IN S WALES.

Always got to love the humble man that doesn't bully or intimidate people when he and others no he could
Without a doubt 🥊👍
Thanks Matt . This has to be one of my favourites videos you've made. After Jerry smashed Charvis unconscious( rip Colin) Tana Umga stopped playing as the game went on and put him in the recovery position and took his mouth guard out and stayed with him till medical came on.
Respect from New Zealand Matt, love your content.
Ah thank you Bruce. I felt quite emotional doing this video about Jonah Lomu and Jerry Collins.
And I heard that Tana Umaga helped Colin, which was very honourable.
I didn't realise Colin Charvis has passed R.I.P
He spoke highly of JC
🥊👍
Hey there's that Lomu video! Good onya. Lomu wasn't just a rugby superstar, he was also a very intelligent man (he spoke 6 languages) and a good bloke.
Lomu was a monster on the rugby field...but a clever gifted rugby player to boot ( couldn't help myself )...a true gentleman ...and Jerry was the true 'enforcer' in defence...again, cut from the finest cloth...love the post Matt...respect and wellbeing from Manchester folks☘☘
Thank you very much Philip 🥊👊
Love it when you do rugby…. I was lucky enough to meet Jonah in Belfast airport, not often I’m star struck but he give me the time to sign some items and chat about the up coming six nations that year.. great work Matt 👍🏻☘️🏉⭐️
Great video Matt, the stories about Jerry when he played for the ospreys were legendary. He would often ask a taxi driver to take him to some random valleys village and he would just turn up in some pub, the locals loved him. As someone else mentioned the telly story, what I heard was that Jerry turned up in some village pub and asked the landlord if he could watch the telly as there was a rugby match on, the landlord said sure but the telly was only a portable one, "hang on" said Jerry, and he crossed the road to a supermarket and came back with a huge flat screen telly, "there you go mate, plug that one in" said Jerry, what a man!.
Ah that's brilliant. I would have included that in the video, thank you very much 🥊👍
Spot on , I mentioned the telly thing and yea I remember him going up the valleys for a session , what a man
Must admit I shed a couple tears in 2015 and again just now. Excellent tribute vid mate.
Thank you Bernie, I did the same mate, it was an emotional video.
I appreciate your message 🥊👊
Brilliantly done brought out the beast and the caring family man in both legends.
Loved it. R.I.P. to both the giants of rugby.
Thank you Martin, I'm so glad it came across that way 👍🥊
@@mattlegg1976 Definitely did Matt ❤️🥊👋
I remember watching Jonah in the 90s, brought back great memories, and many clubs tried to sign him.
Brilliant video, Matt. Big respect, 👍👍👏👏
He was amazing to watch. Thank you very much 🥊👍
@snakeman9902 ... Many a Club may have tried to sign the Man up, but many a Club must have failed, too.
Big respect Matt, keep doing what your doing bro
Thank you Mike 🥊👊
Hiya Matt,,, I shared the company of Jonah twice fella,,,, he was playing in Wales and I was in Newport watching my cousin who played for Newport & Wales. He was well clued up on Boxing and was a giant of a bloke ,,, with forearms to challenge Devon Larrat.
Well spoken and humble,,, funny and loved car stereo systems,,, the louder the better.
Hope your Matt fella .
Brilliant Stuart, what a memory to have 🥊👊👍
Hope your well Matt lad,,,, yea I we were near the same age well,,, I'm the older lol. I joked thank God you weren't in my County rugby lol I'd have been smashed 😅 😄 😀
Superb documentary Matt, seriously this is right up there.
2 great men who died way to early.

Excellent, moving testimonials for two of the greats.
Another two great hard men of rugby who shone in their light far too briefly but shouldn't be forgotten. Cheers Matt.

Hiya Matt, another great video. Thanks and please keep them coming.👍
Thank you for watching 🥊👍
Had the priviledge of meeting Jerry Collins, Ma'a Nonu and the other Hurricane players after a game vs the Stormers in Palmerston North many years ago. What a legend of the game we lost so young. RIP Mr Collins
The great Jonah lomu an Jerry Collins both legends it this sport rest easy TOKOUSO🇹🇴🇼🇸💯💪
🥊👊💪
Lomu steamrolling over the top of Mike Catt was a classic rugby World Cup moment. Catt was literally folded in half and impregnated into the ground
Impregnated? 😂 you been watching too much porn!
Rip to you both Rugby has changed so much and this was the era when we could celebrate as there werent to many stars on set personally i miss Rugby when it was like this Jerry Hamoa Hard Hitter & Jonah Tongan Colosus came from humble begginings both were very modest and kind but also smart so much more then Rugby Global Stars 🌟 aroha nui to your families and always remembered 🇹🇴🇼🇸🇳🇿🌿💯
Wow he was a strong and fast guy. Guys from the island are some tought people. Great video
They really are 🥊💪

@@mattlegg1976 I lived there (Samoa) for 6 months in 1970. I did three rounds with the South Pacific Middleweight champ who went on to become British Commonwealth Light-heavy champ. I lost, but didn't go down haha. We sparred every day with 8 oz gloves. Had a split lip for 6 months.

Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you 🥊👍
Brilliant Matt. As a proud Springbok fan I absolutely love the All Blacks. How about a video of our hard men over the years...
Have you ever seen the video of Jonah and Joost van der Westhuisen shortly before they both passed?
🇿🇦♥️
Wow! I haven't, but that sounds interesting.
I'm definitely going to cover some of the Springboks , as Eben Etzebeth is on the list.
I'm going to look up the situation you mentioned aswell.
Thank you 🥊👍
czcams.com/video/QdF2lXRFCwk/video.htmlsi=hZ2d0pxMstjtOCbP oh and you have to have Bakkies Botha as well. Bouncer turned Bok!!
I loved joost , great player, another who died so young from MND, horrific, respect from Cymru 🏴
@@mattlegg1976 As a Kiwi ex-rugby player, I love the Springboks too. Etzebeth is a physical freak but check out two that were IMO even tougher -- Bismark du Plessis and Bakkies Botha. Also Schalk Burger who had a running battle with Jerry Collins for years. Both men rated each other among the hardest.

Brilliant, I'll add them to the list. Thank you very much 🥊👊
Great video - Not forgotten RIP Legends 🖤
Nice one, thank you 🥊🖤
I remember watching Jonah run through England, brilliant.
It was amazing, I remember it like it was yesterday 🥊👊
Jonah Lomu changed the game forever.
Both him and Jerry where some of the best the All Blacks have ever seen.
Thank you Matt Two awesome Hurricane Wellington LIONS legends. Always loved, they both epitomized power and humility. Chiefs. This was emotional to watch.
This video made me miss working and playing with my PI brothers. Same as the Haku videos. Truly hard, humble men, mostly.
Thank you for watching 👍🥊
Another 2 legends gone far too early 🙏🏼🙏🏼 nice 1 Matt cheers 👍
Jonah not just the first global rugby superstar, but probably still the only one. I'd rate Carter and McCaw ahead of him as players, but they didn't have his global star power and I don't think anyone has come close since. Jonah bought people to the game - you wanted to see him play. I was lucky enough to see him in a pre-season game at Ballymore for the Blues against Queensland in around 1998 and he was up against Ben Tune - himself a 100kg, very good international winger. All night long, Tune was a speed bump....Jonah terrorized him. Jonah was the most destructive runner of the ball we have ever seen.
Great message, thank you 🥊👍👊
You are the man Matt. This is awesome! you did it.
I'm glad you enjoyed it
It was quite emotional making it.
I really respect these men 👍🥊
@@mattlegg1976 I certainly shed a tear. Jerry was my idol in my youth. Great channel!

Thanks Matt. I 've been loving your show. As a Kiwi, this one brought a few tears. Cheers brother.
Ah brilliant. Thank you David.
It was emotional making it for me.
🥊👍
@@mattlegg1976 Suggest you do one on Buck Shelford, most Kiwis consider him the toughest ever player. Against France in 1986 his ball-bag was ripped open, he got it stitched up and went back on. In 1987, first World Cup, he was All Black captain and knocked out the Welsh lock with one short punch in the semi-final. Check it out brother.

To us South Africans, these two brilliant players, were probably the most respected by us. Sadly, just like our Joost van der Westhuizen, they all suffered untimely deaths. RIP great rugby icons.

Hi Matt. I just discovered your channel a couple days ago. I like your content. I have a question for you concerning boxing. I hope you respond. What quality makes one fighter good at boxing and another guy great at boxing? I watched you hit a heavy bag and you can really crack. You hit hard. You have a lot of snap in your punches especially the jab. I've seen James Toney hit the heavy bag. I think you look better on the heavy bag than he does and I think your hands are quicker but he beat you and he was an all time great. What is the difference between you and him?
I ask the question because I did some amateur boxing and I had a lot of snap in my punches and looked really good on the heavy bag and it didn't really translate in the ring. Do you think some guys just have a knack of getting their fists to find their opponents face without getting hit themselves? My trainer was all about punching hard. In his opinion if you didn't hit hard you weren't a good fighter. I don't necessarily agree. What do you think?
Jerry would take your head off, but give you a cap to say sorry, RIP legend
Superb tribute Matt. Check out Brian 'The Chiropractor' Lima, another rugby hardman. Not the biggest but hard as nails and tackled like a buffalo.
He’s okay but Jerry and lomu was up there especially playing for All Blacks..!!
