I share a surname with one of the notable people mentioned in this episode, Gonçalo Mabunda, no surprises there seeing that the colonial borders that resulted from the Berlin conference of 1884 separated my people into 5 different countries here in Southern Africa.
What Mabunda means?
Bantus consist of 400 distinct ethnic groups with 600 closely related Bantu languages. The Bantus are spread central east Africa all the way down to Southern Africa. It is believed Bantus spread from East Africa down south. I speak Shona from Zimbabwe and I can understand other Bantu languages. For example if met a person from Kenya who speaks Swahili I can kinda understand what they are saying to me.

I saw that this video is from 2023. I am Portuguese and since the independence of the countries that were part of Portugal, I have been trying to follow the history of Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, S. Tomé and Príncipe, Timor and others. In 1975, when these countries gained independence, many Portuguese returned to Portugal and I heard so many stories that I ended up becoming interested With everything that was going on there. Mozambique, nowadays, gives me nightmares. It is a country very rich in natural resources and a President, Samora Machel, was a good leader. He had everything to succeed and be an African power. At the moment there are serious problems, in Cabo Delgado, in the North, it was occupied by forces of the Islamic State and have committed the greatest atrocities imaginable, especially against women. There are soldiers from several European and African countries fighting but it is very complicated especially now that the Wagner Group, which was removed from Ukraine, went there. Sorry for this long history lesson. If you think about going there, go with all the precautions.

I once went on business. I had high hopes - swaying palm trees, beaches, and turquoise waters - but it’s a dump. Revenue from high end tourism does not trickle down. Plus I was shaken down by ‘security officers.” Would never go back.
