Another really good gothy roundtable & I want to thank all of you for the participation in the video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 My advice for people just getting into goth. Listen to the music even if it's just one band that you like - be active in your local scene as much as possible & the most important thing is just be yourself.

oooh boi...an episode about my generation of goths... I digged more into the music in 2020, after ppl pointed out some music I listened to was gothy, a local band, I wanted to find more music like the genres they played. also because I drew a character I didn't realise was kinda punk/gothy 😂 after that I also got into a show who's creator used to be in goth bands, doc hammer, co writer of venture bros, who played in requiem in white, mors syphilitica etc. I guess that's what sparked my interest
    I think I'm a slightlyyy older gen z-er?? I'm 23
not to be the ""im born in the wrong generation" guy to say this but I do often feel disconnected from most gen z-ers younger than me

That's how it was for me too; got into goth during the pandemic.

@@indigoblur I know there's a thing called corona goth or pandemic goth hehe. it's odd I didn't get into the subculture when was in art school and surrounded by goths,I didn't know a lot about it but I do remember at the time I wanted to be a pastel goth because it was so popular on tumblr and other places 😆 but the lockdown did give me more time to explore post punk and others which I had been interested in because of that band in 2018 I think

Thank you guys for another great episode! I started dressing gothic a long time before I discovered Goth music. Finding the music was what really made me fall in love with the subculture, along with horror films and Tim Burton. I've never had a lot of involvement in my local scene as it died many years ago. We are trying to revive it, but it's proving difficult.

I got into goth and punk at the same time in the mid/late 80's. I would go to a punk show one night and then a goth club the next. The uber goths didn't like people like me, how dare I listen to other forms of music. There were a few of us that did that. I also love 70's/80's disco, funk ,R&B and rap/hip-hop. Alternative clubs in the late 80's were some of the only places that you could hear 2 Live Crew, Public Enemy and other controversial rap bands that radio stations and MTV refused to play.
Really crap EBM and synthpop took over clubs in the late 90's. I was the only DJ in Portland about 20 years ago who would play deathrock revival music. I would get so much shit for it. Some of the EBM djs back then, who refused to play other forms of music, are now spinning post-punk/goth music. Go figure.

Gen z here, honestly I'm glad I gave goth subculture a go, I listened to a few songs by goth artists in my teenage years that I didn't even realised was goth (siouxsie, the smiths, joy division) until I started digging up the history, the music, even my local scene and artists, I have my own friend group now :)

Being an original from the start in London my advice is start with original uk bands such as UK Decay(originators along withBauhaus) /Sex GangChildren(early)/Play Dead / VirginPrunes/Theatre of Hate/ Ritual etc & remember the cure / Siouxsie and the Banshees etc are not goth & tears for fears was mentioned in this video 🤣 mainstream pop band

I was around when Songs From The Big Chair originally came out, and Tears For Fears in America were considered 'alternative' or 'modern rock'. I think they were considered more of a pop band in the UK.
