you the man bro 🙏
This one's my jam. The bee's knees.
Hey Jarrod, short Questionen.
I bought a Asus scar strix 2 from 19/20 with i7 8750h and a rtx 2070 for 300€.
Does the cpu bottleneck the gpu? Idk where i can check that ..
Please add a sort by price option to the website. There is even a sort by image option that doesn't make sense
Can you review lenovo legion 9i 4090rtx
Although all of these laptops are marketed as "Gaming Laptops", there is a good chunk of the customer base in the market who are looking for the performance for reasons other than gaming. I bought the 2022 G16 because I was looking to get into data science programming. I was interested in a potential career shift, but didn't want to spend $3k before I knew I was going to further pursue it. I was able to get the RTX 3060, 12th gen i7, 16GB Ram, 1TB storage for $1000 right after Christmas 2022. I traded in a 2 year old Dell laptop my wife got for college and her older Macbook Air that wasn't being used anymore and only spent $600. Has treated us great. I know the argument: if you are getting a laptop so big, why not get a desktop? Well we aren't lugging this thing around daily in a bookbag, but it's still nice to have the flexibility to work on the couch, or in bed, or even just at different chairs at the kitchen table. The battery life isn't killer because it's easy enough to plug in at any of those spots if we are working for more than 3-4 hours. She loves the larger display as do I, and it has plenty of capability for getting started in self teaching data science programming, which has lead to me going back to online school to finish my bachelors. I would absolutely consider going to the current higher spec version of the G16 when we upgrade. Also considering Alienware and Razer. I love Mac reliability but Nvidia is essential for Machine Learning. Dell and Razer in my opinion are the next best options for reliability. Lenovo's are great but the Chinese owned aspect scares me. My lowkey favorite part about the G16 over the Alienware and Razer is it just looks like a professional laptop and not a "fun" gaming laptop. Not sure why these companies don't offer products with the same capabilities as the gaming laptops without all of the lighting rainbow effects. Anyway, couldn't recommend the G16 more for anybody considering it.
Looking for data science work also.
Very well said.
Exactly. A college engineering computer requires gaming type specs - mainly a discrete gpu and fast cpu. Only the cooling system in a gaming laptop can handle such a spec...
Thanks for this review covered everything I was doing research on good luck to you on your data science journey
Exactly. I bought for RAW photo processing power from very high resolution camera. It went from 8 seconds on Alienware with 8750H chip to under 3 seconds and sometimes even 2 seconds depends on photo content on i9.
I've the exact same model as yours for my first laptop and i'm loving it. Mine didnt have the backlight bleed but my touchpad sometimes move by itself uncontrollably while using it and normal once i tapped it a few times. Still a very good laptop though.
For those that didnt know, you can also adjust the fan curve speed and TCC Offset limit up to 85°C through the AWCC.
It looks like Dell went out of their way to put the memory and m.2 on the opposite side to the heat sink even though it would’ve added thickness, I appreciate that
after my experiences with multiple extremely hot bricks on HP Omen systems, I really appreciate seeing the bigger power supply. maybe it's overkill? but if it means you don't have to deal with molten plastic and burnt fingers, it's worth it.
Yeah that was the thing holding me back from the G15 and G16. So you're saying an over powered power supply will run cooler since it gets no where near the 330 watts?
@@Bert439 I've seen it suggested that bricks designed to pull and deliver more power won't heat up as dramatically as bricks that are regularly pushed to their limit. In the Omen case, I was regularly able to drain the battery while gaming with the system plugged in, and the brick got hot enough I couldn't handle it without an oven mitt. Some users reported using a larger brick from HP and the problem going away. It's mostly anecdotal, but it at least makes sense on its face.
It makes sense. Anyway, I just brought a small USB fan to cool the brick. At max power, it keeps warm
The total system power never gets above 260w based on HWINFO sensors. There is a charger on amazon for the 7630 that looks like a normal laptop brick, slimmer but still 330w.
I have the dell g7 from 2018... has been great, never had a single problem, good performance , great termals, and i use it for architecture so it works hard. Looking for a new laptop now just for upgrading components and ray tracing, so dell and alienware are the first to look for me for the great experience.
I am also architecture student. You would recommend this laptop or others (like alienware) ?
@@Siddharth.235 depends what are you looking for... its not the most portable.. so if you move to much maybe not. If you want to use it like desktop i think it really good. The proble i see in the new alienwares is they run hot... so im gona look for others like lenovo legion or asus strix/ zephyrus
I would take 2 points from Upgrade Score because of inverted motherboard. If you want to ugrade thermal paste you have to disassemble all the laptop.
exactly. this seems like a nightmare if you have thermal paste instead of liquid metal.
Even if you want to clean the fans you will have to Rio out the entire motherboard
Edit: also opening the back panel is a nightmare, Jarrod mentioned it briefly but it is a really big issue for a normal user
they didnt even give mount for the other ssd slot on my g15, and its very hard to clean fans,
man these USA prices are goofy cheap compared to overpriced e-waste that we get in EU
Dell computers are like Toyota's, they won't win any races but they will last longer than any other brand.
I dunno man, Acer and Lenovo make some proper cockroaches.
Facts. My dell inspiron 7559 works like a charm. And it can even run Hogwarts Legacy. I upgraded the RAM and placed an M2 SSD for boot option.
Lenovo laptops lasts the most.
@@jamesevangelista6460 Watching this video and replying on my Dell XPS L702X from 2011...!!! 13 years old and still rocking..
i have a 2020 acer helios and one of my fans work and i can hear the remaining fan through my headphones.
Hey Jarrod thanks for the review! Do new laptops normally come with a back up USB boot/windows disk? As I have just ordered one and would like to put a larger SSD in it. Thanks!
Just got G16 12th Gen i7/1TB/16GB/RTX3060/Thunderbolt for $799 at Microcenter.
Man .. yur the best MAN ive ever Seen in YT .. Keep doing yur hard work
1.6kg for the charger! That is the same weight as a Zephyrus G14 by itself! But there is no need as it doesn’t have a 4080/90 and the i9 HX isn’t as powerful as other i9 HX laptops. Crazy man
For those still looking at the G16. The $1949 version is currently in the states $1299. That's a very good price. No touch screen, but 240Hz, 13900HX (32 thread 5.4Ghz), 4070 (8GB), 32GB DDR5 (4800Mt), backlit keyboard. For the features, $1300 (~33% off) is a very good price, though still check their deal page at their link. There could another one also on a similar sale.
Man the exact same one is 2100 here in Canada. I wish I knew how I could order it off the US site but I don't think it's possible
Just bought one for 1400 UK pounds 💷 .
Thinking of getting this one
@@BearX681 how is it so far
Where are you finding this price? I'm only seeing it for around $1800. Thank you
I ordered this today. I'm really going to miss the 10-key keyboard from my previous one, but I am hopeful it meets my needs for at least the next three years.
Thinking of getting this. It's absolutely good enough for my needs; I usually don't play AAA games and I don't care about playing them on high settings. My main question is how reliable is it, as in its longevity? Historically all of my laptops have started experiencing problems around the 2 to 2.5 year mark after heavy daily use. I'm fine so long as it doesn't start breaking down in under two years.
I don't think it will at all, I've had an old dell g5 laptop for 4 years and it still runs good frames and works absolutely great for programming, video editing, and general browsing
tHis is a good general question. just recently a Asus Zephyrus G15 i had for a year crashed and shows no signs of life. most probably due to a power short in the motherboard. It was barely over a year.
Would really like to evaluate reliability of these gaming laptops. Apparently the zephyrus line has got reliability issues basedoff repairs on youtube
Vapor Chamber and Element 41 are included on the RTX 4070 models
I didn't see that specified on the US product page, only for the Alienware stuff, but it wouldn't surprise me, they give random configs in different regions different stuff.
The keyboard backlights are only green for me. How did you get the color? What are the settings? I have Windows 11 installed.
Hey Jarrod I got this laptop a couple months ago for 1350 with 4070, i9 13900hx, 16 gb ddr5, and qhd 165hz screen. Do you think this laptop is a good buy at 1350?
Hey bro! I appreciate your in depth videos and reviews! You should do some videos on laptop security. Given your background you are definitely qualified
Will you also be testing the new Legion 9I in the future?
The day after I got this, the keyboard configuration disappeared from AWCC, and shortly after the keyboard backlight stopped turning on. I contacted dell but they basically said I’d have to send it in to be repaired… is there any other solution? It persisted even after reinstalling windows.
Would it be possible for you to review more rtx 4060 gaming laptops? Thank you.
For a heavily pregnant to be mom who loves gaming and cant really invest in a gaming pc just yet this is perfect so i can play my mmos and pc games whilst taking care of my baby during maternity! 🤗❤
Update just bought the G16 i9 4070 32gb 1tb 240hz for £1281 in the UK because Dell have a sale on right now £300 off and if you sign up for dell rewards with your emaol you get an extra 5% off promo code ! So not a bad deal!
Thanks a lot for this great content 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Does it thermal throttle while running aida 64? My new g15 does while stress test and playing game. Also along with showing average temperature you should also show highest temperature for better comparison.
Quality control issues on a Dell laptop? This is literally the first time I've ever seen this. 😮
Same here dude! 😂
*But it's opposite day.*
Lol 😂
Every year Jarrod has a section to talk about their software issues I can't see a brand worse in this area.
@@jonnypena7651 From BSODs and buggy software to literally downgrading the SSD slots on the 2022 model from 2 to 1, I don't get Dell. And this is the brand that soldered on _ALL THE RAM on the Alienware x16 inch laptops._
@saturnotaku didn't Dell always have great QA in decades? 100c on first boot etc
are you using IETS GT600 Coolingpad?.. its effective -15 to 20deg

Thanks for the video mate..
Would you pick this over the strix or the tuf?
Hi Jarrod, what do you think about the Omen 17 3080ti laptop? Bought it and its on its way. But not reviewed by you so a little jittery.
Omens are pretty good
Key spacing is one of the most important factor to be considered when it comes to gaming laptops and gamers. That's why many gaming laptops doesn't come with numpads and it also enhances the aesthetic, minimal look of a laptop.
but the G15 version has a numpad. I don't see why Dell made the G16 different without a numpad. I was about to buy the G16 but I want the numpad so opted for the G15 instead.
Can you review MSI Bravo 15 especially the one with 4060 config? It's on hot sale right now in my region in Indonesia and im wondering what you think about it since u last reviewed it
I got this laptop a month ago because ASUS Rog strix was out of stock in Delhi(India) and online. Though I got it a pretty good deal from Dell store. I hate the jumbo adapter. It's like carrying 2 laptops. The screen size is great and ventilation is quite good. It's my first gaming laptop. No numpad though:/. Would love to know some Alienware optimisation videos or tutorials. There's no SD card slot.
Also looking for what additional SSDs and RAM brands should I prefer with this?
How is the laptop..iam also looking for this one..and also rog stix g16. Which one u prefer?
which one did you end up? how's it going so far? I am also between these two laptops@@thejasrs4242
@@thejasrs4242 Hi there. Did you decide on either one? If so can you tell me how's it's been so far
Hey I'm getting a 4050 140W and a 45W 4060 laptop at same price and I'll be using frame gen + dlss so will this 4060 be a better option for me? Does 4060 runs frame gen and dlss better than 4050?
I recently just bought one and did a cinebench run and got 25500ish points in Performance mode so guess they fixed the power issues, and with custom mode with the tiny undervolt they allow I got 26628
I hope dell gets more linux support for gaming laptops
Which 16 inch laptop would you recommend for both gaming and editing? Was planning to get a Helios 16
I would go with Zeohyrus M16 or Legion slim 7i
Is the 16gig ram enough or will i need to upgrade?
Hey! What would you recommend- same configuration Alienware x16 or this one?
Isn't that Alienware pretty much g16 with alienware logo on it?
OMG JARROD UPLOADED LESSS GOOOO
I've been looking at this for a little bit. I prefer dell due to working with them on a daily. I love their command update utility as well as their support
I have the 4070 model. The element 31 is on the CPU only, the GPU uses regular thermal paste.
Hello, Do u get Lag or drow fps while gaming?
@@SergioRodriguez-dm1xlI have this laptop and i'm having this problem on every game, even if i set low settings
Probably the one thing that held this thing back is the lack of thunderbolt 4, would've been nice to have since I plan to connect it to an EGPU.
Thunderbolt eGPU sucks super hard, I wouldn't recommend it to my enemies. Maybe it will be a different story with TB5, but we're not there yet.
It does have thunderbolt 4 but only on the 4070 variant
Can you please make another M2 MBA review? Preferably 13.6 inch - Midnight.
Is there a way to plug in the charger to boost laptop performance without charging the laptop on gaming laptops?
yes. some of them charge up in 50-60 range or 70-80
My Dell G15 was awesome 👌 but ws 3050Ti so i changed it with MSI gp 3070
I have the 2022 version with 12th gen i7, 3050 ti, and 16 gigs of dual-channel ram and it is really good for the price
i have this laptop too, but with a 3060. i got it for $1249 and it's absolutely amazing
I own this laptop with the 240hz screen and with a few tweaks and it runs like a dream scored 31915 in Cinebench R23 Multicore, things i don't like are the AWCC software and the trackpad mainly. nice video ty
awcc is a literal nightmare. Crazy how much money dell has and its just atrocious
Would you recommend the laptop? Is the build quality an issues or nah
@@User.x07Hmm if you can get it cheap then yeah but might be better deals out there now.
You can replace AWCC with the community made AlienFX Tools.

I bought the g15 model and I am regretting it
the i9 4070 version is on sale for 1300 dollars but the benchmark results plus size is kind of scaring me. For 1300 dollars is it a steal?
I wish youd check the low end of the g16s, the i7 12700 and either 3050 or 360. Theres almost no info on g16s right now.
They send 195w to the 4070 Laptop GPU! Even though its rated 35w-115w they seriously over power it. (along with the integrated GPU) They can only do it because of improved cooling (using the Alien ware tech they acquired). You can use a more powerful power adapter than needed by 50% with no problems. in fact its better for the PSU will create less heat overall. Its only draws whats needed from it at any given moment. And dont forget it has USB Thunderbolt 4, PD3.1, 140w power delivery! You can charge something at 140 watts from the USB port so that power has to come from somewhere.
That is not correct, 195w is for the CPU, it’s shown on the website.
Do you think the differences in performance between 4070 and 4060 on different laptops is pure silicone lottery or do some brands actually just perform worse even at the same wattage?
I got the G16 with I9 and 32GB of Ram for 1300. Would you consider that a good deal or is there a better laptop out there for that price point?
I like the computer but the charging brick is big. Micro Center had a good deal in October for the G16 and picked it up for 699.00 plus tax.
I just bought a G15 and I noticed that it's using the discrete graphics card for web browser applications that require heavy 3D processing. Is there a setting that will make the laptop use the GPU for heavy 3D rendering? The NVIDIA control panel is set to "Automatic Select". Should it be set to Optimus? Will that make the laptop use the GPU more? I'd prefer not to set it to GPU only to improve the battery life. Jarrod do you have any videos that explain the differences between these settings and how to get the laptop to use the GPU when appropriate?
in windows settings, in display, click "graphics" you can set it there
How does the 4060 variant compare to the 4070?
I am also a Dell G16 7630 user. However, my laptop appears to be 165 Hz, and in some sources it appears to be 240 Hz (on the internet). Can I use my laptop at 240 Hz? If yes how can I use it
Great video as always! but I had an unrelated query - I'm in the market to upgrade right now and 2 laptops have me scratching my head.
I currently have the Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05 (GTX 1650 - 32GB RAM). And i am looking at either the MSI Stealth 15M (RTX 3060 6GB + I7-1280P) or the GIGABYTE G5 KF (RTX 4060 8GB + I5-12500H).
They are IDENTICAL prices right now.... considering I am coming from the GTX 1650 does it make sense to just go for the 4000 series? or get the 3060 with the I7.
I'm actually torn lol
The Gigabyte G5 keeps thermal throttling with constant max speed fans and it's extremely loud as well. Overall it's one of the worst laptops this year so I wouldn't recommend it.
@adriangasiorek3719 Appreciate your insight, thanks a bunch - I did already order it and it arrives today, but I luckily already spoke to the vendor and I can swap for the MSI Stealth 15M - Thank god lol
Thanks a bunch
@@OrphioussGlad someone got to you before you were stuck with that trash, I almost pulled the trigger on one today but luckily I found real reviews instead of people who tried the G5 once and gave it 5 stars. Terrible quality control from Gigabyte, they’ll never be getting my money because they clearly know that the garbage company they use the build the G5 is shipping out POS laptops but don’t care.
Is it just me or the audio is slightly off on this video? There's some noise in the background, like a glass beaker with some water in it is being struck with your index finger. Some pingy noise that I can't seem to pinpoint-- or ignore.
Vapor Chambers should be standard on these laptops... easily 10dB quieter

Would love to have a best Linux gaming laptop video. Pop OS should be the best candidate since it installs Nvidia drivers by default.
Installing Linux as dual boot
Running steam games to see performance difference with Windows
Battery test
Which features don't work on vanilla Linux
Ofc there are other softwares to optimize like Gwen for Nvidia settings but that's up to the user to use it or not
I can give a brief rundown on what the best gaming laptop is for Linux:
For 2022, that was hands down the Legion 7 2022 (the AMD Advantage model) with an Intel Wi-Fi card (the one I got in my unit was REALLY bad on Windows and didn't work in Arch).
The battery life is quite good with the screen at 60 hz (the Fn + R shortcut for setting the screen resolution doesn't work in Linux because it's using a Windows API) and performance mode on Quiet (Fn + Q to change between the 3 main performance modes still works).
For this year, you're kind of out of luck, as I couldn't find a brand with AMD Advantage and more than 8 GB of vRAM. And the options with Nvidia GPUs and 16 : 10 screens seem to be M.I.A., at least for laptops with Linux out of the box.
Personally, if you can deal with no DLSS and CUDA, and you're fine with no more than 8 GB of vRAM for now, the Framework Laptop 16 is probably your best option at the moment, even if you'll have to be put on a queue to get it. It has no Nvidia GPU nonsense, it officially supports Ubuntu (23.10 and later, but not 22.04) and Fedora (39 and later), but it should work with almost any Linux distro if you know what you're doing, and it fully supports right to repair, even allowing for an unreal amount of upgradability. Literally the only complaint I think I'll have with it (apart from no Nvidia option), is the lack of storage expansion, as if you want dual-sided SSD support, you're limited to just one internal SSD, or two (one M.2 2280 and one 2230) with single sided SSDs.
If you want to dual boot on a laptop that came with Windows out of the box, try to get one with two SSD slots. Otherwise, partitioning one drive for users newer to Linux can be dangerous for your data already on the drive.
*TL;DR: Get the Framework Laptop 16 if you can wait for Q1 2024. If you can't or need Nvidia support (for CUDA or DLSS), then IDK.*
(The Razer Blade 14 and Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 this year didn't have working speakers and I couldn't get them to work no matter what I did, so they went back.)
Can this laptop be connected to a Dell docking station via usb-C?
Dell always offers discounts, friends and family, student, or you can just call in and they will take 5-20 percent off. Plus if you had a dell card already approved you would get 6-12 months interest free payments. Could be this, more than the actual product.
Call in and they might take up to 20% off it? Really?

2.7kg for a 16 inch laptops. I wonder what kind of materials does Dell use for it to be so heavy. It's better to get a 17 inch laptops with good spec and just as similar performance. I would get this but that weight is throwing me off.
Is this better or worse than the Lenovo Legion Slim 5?
Please make a review on what should we pick Zephyrus G16 or the Rog strix G16, please!
ASUS aren't lending the Zephyrus G16 this year and it's a bit too late in the release cycle for me to justify buying one, sorry.
which one would you suggest me? I have to buy one and I only have 3-4 days to choose between the two, there are another 2 options which are the helios neo 16 and legion pro 5 but I guess the strix g16 is better than all of them (they're all 4060s)@@JarrodsTech
which one have you bought, I am also planning to buy rog strix g16

These thermals are excellent! Wow!
Hey Jarrod, Do you plan on reviewing the new Flow X16?
I want to, but it doesn't seem likely this year.
@@JarrodsTechAaah, but do you think it's worth it?
Jarod I need a favour from you can you selectively make some best gaming laptops that are present in some regional areas like for example I live in India so the cost will not be directly conversion of dollars to rupees and also there will be no offers like present in US. Please I request you for this video.
I got the g15 for the numpad, how did they make it bigger and lose it.
NumPad, gaming laptop?
Hello. I have this laptop, but honestly I use it for both gaming and work. It’s rather annoying carrying this massive PSU around. Am I able to purchase a smaller one? I’m not using it very GPU heavy while out and about using it for work. Any suggestions?
I suggest you to look for GANN power adapter: Dell original, Dell clones or SlimQ are the best choices. The latter is smaller, but you need to buy their Dell adapter.
Can you expand the RAM up to 64 gigabytes or up to 92 gigabytes?
Pls take a review about MSI stealth 16 studio 4070
Is it possible to change the charger with a smaller one?
it should be, I can use both 180 and 240w on my G15
Could you review the Acer Helios 16 RTX 4070?
Hello, even though I made the BIOS settings, the keyboard lights do not work. FX menu does not appear in Alien software. What can I do?
Did you get this fixed? I have the same issue, started the day after I got it.
Hi can someone please help in my country there's a laptop with a 2070 super around 20 percent cheaper than 4050/3060 laptops, would the 2070 super be a good idea?4060 laptops are still too expensive and they don't stock any amd gpu laptops here. I currently have a bravo 15 with a rx 5500m and the vram is becoming a major issue. Thanks
Id love to test it see howclong before fan noise

Got mine delivered yesterday with the 4070, done all updates and there's massive stuttering in certain games, overwatch doesn't get above 110fps on low settings, no idea on the cause
Thank you for this. Has it gotten better???
