  • I had a situation where a cabinet going through the shop needed to have the doors match existing cabinetry, and one of the challenges was boring for the euro cup hinges without boring through the outside profile.
Blum actually makes a hinge cup spacer for use in situations where you can't get the minimum cup bore depth required. The Blum 38N requires a cup bore depth of 7/16", and I was only comfortable achieving 3/8" not wanting to risk a drill through.

Thank you so much for this video, I have installed some Blum self closing hinges and they were not flush to the door. I contacted the company I bought them from and told them the problem. They did NOT give me this solution, even though they sell them. So glad I found your video!!

I had some shallow bore holes and it made the top corner of the shelf have a gap between the cabinet and the door because when the hinge closes to 90 the hinge is engineered to expect it to be flush. does this spacer fix that or will I just have to live with it?

The spacer will just fill the gap between the backside of the hinge area where the screws go. It just keeps the tabs from bending.
