The funniest thing about them is that, the reason those missile launchers dont have any backblast was because Cawl basically reinvented the Bolter.
Cawl: AHA I'VE DONE IT, IT'S AMAZING
Servo-Skull #4343-6245-9473: Cogitating... You have invented a larger boltgun.
Cawl: FU-
@@ThePigeon5734 "magister that is just a downsized mega bolter"
No he re invented the Ork Rokkit launcher.
Having Cawl as the deus ex machina of the lore is the worst thing to happen to 40k
@@CTA12356Ah yes because wh40k wasn't already full of deus ex machina. Stop being an old head
The best part about the Desolation squad model is that EVERYONE is trying to fix them and there's a lot of variation for solutions. This one and Pete The Wargamer are definitely my favorites
I saw Pete's video a few day ago as well, and while it works its not my favorite strangely. Slapping the entire gun on the backpack felt a bit too easy but the use of optics and arm-computers was very good.
@@PearlJam2k6 tbh I think both approaches look great, Pete did the "backpack gun" approach way better than anyone but Jay's approach is certainly unique since he actually kept the guns on hand which I haven't seen anyone attempt effectively
Mad Dok Minis was my favourite. Replicated it for my rocket lads and they look great!
Until you realise theres no way petes desolation squad could fit inside a transport
@@PearlJam2k6 Indeed, just saw that one, his alternate arm options are interesting, though.
I do like the added Fallout styled com-gear & that tablet.
They need a way to store their rifles, when not in use, because then using that arm-computer thing or that tablet, could work.
Thing is, I don't really see a spot, anywhere, that would work and they don't have any carry belts on their rifles.
And why am I right now, remembering that Fallout Multi-Rocket Launcher or a modern day granate(?) launcher gun with a ammo-drum underneed it?
Heh, Mechanicum robots, do share a look with Fallout Protectrons, so there is that one.
And you could easily add in some Starcraft styled armor mounted headlights as well, for when you really need some light to see by.
Heck, is there room for a Iron Man Arc Reactor, by change?
Iron Man armor mk1 & mk1B.
I think that if you are careful, several different setups could be made.
Anti-Heavy-Armor, Anti-Heavy-Troop, Scout, Command, Demolish-ion.
Heck, it could even form a nice objective tile, a command tile, tablet guy, calling guy, radio thingy guy, Protectron protection to fill out to five units.
I totally respect the random numbering.
“They’re seventh. . .something” had me laughing
One actually nice thing about this kit is that I’ve now seen maybe a dozen different takes on how to improve these. Really cool that folks didn’t just settle on one way to kitbash them. Personally I simply swapped the arms for devastator squad missile launchers and glued the little rocket pod at an angle to their backpacks.
Those marines look great with this conversion work and paint job. Jay's freehand is impressive.
yea like how do you even do that
From what I understand, Jay cheats; he practices off camera 😄😄😄🖌🎨@@206lucas30
Looks realy good! but one thing I would suggest is if your going with the idea that thes are discardable box launchers you might want to use the extra launcher cells as reloads somewhere on the modle to help tell that idea, kind of like how old marine launchers had a pack just for more missles.
It’ s a pity that you don’t kitbash more often. You brought originality, sobriety and credibility! Which is the essence of conversion. Those Nerf sounds like a junior over tanked conversion. You can really call this a success now
Love it, going to copy this for mine. Only change would be the missile door opening downwards
Same. That was the one thing bugging me about them, lol.
You made them look amazing! The crosses on Black Templars helmets is simply inspired, and I’m surprised I haven’t seen it before. Between that and the giant guns, your Templars look straight out of a Rob Liefeld comic, and I mean that in the best way possible.
They have feet. We know Rob Liefeld can't draw feet.
0:33 I get it. The issue is, they actually look like toys.
I actually kind of like the original Desolation Squad. The big ridiculous stuff are part of the charm of 40k for me. But I love this conversion, makes it more believable.
The new marines look fantastic! I like how the indirect fire weapons can actually function as that, aiming towards the air.
These look absolutely SICK! The cross over the face mask is the perfect icing on the cake! Never thought I could fan boy over a model figurine.
That beaky templar cross looks amazing! Also putting the grenade launchers on the backpacks is a great idea!
These are perfect. I love your instincts on the conversion.
Started watching this channel for Legion (I don't personally play Warhammer) But I just love how you break down painting, and the humor is great too! So now I watch every upload! Keep being awesome EoB!
If I ever get another set of Desolation marines, I'm definitely going with this route rather than the normal
On the subject of Primaris naming conventions, I've been referring to them as Desolators this whole time without realizing they're actually called Desolation Marines/Desolation Squad. I love these models because of the way they've inspired people to improve them.
This is the third 'fixing desolation marines' conversion video I've seen, and imo is the best looking solution
Another way to explain how your new (eccellent) converted missile launcher works could be as a PIAT, with an huge spring launch the missile and After some meters the rocket is activated. Logically, with someone such as strong as a SM, it would be very easy to recharge the launcher.
Any chance you'll paint some Salamanders?
Been a while, glad to see youre doing your same stuff
I've always thought this kit was ridiculous, but you've made them look like GW should have. Great job on this!
This looks awesome man. Though the big rockets still look a bit goofy but nothing can be done about that. Best conversion i’ve seen so far
My favorite part about these models is seeing how everyone interprets how to fix them. I've seen some really creative ways to get this working, and I like this method a lot.
The Marines that nobody loves but has the most variations
I love how even with the blur, we all still saw what kit it was
You did great, really helping the world heal from their original design !
Jay: “they look too much like nerf guns”
Jay: *paints barrel end orange*
I immediately thought: "Shoulder- / backpack-mounted rockets!"
Nice job :)
Imho I like the standard look of the desolation Marines, but this conversation is nice too
Can't wait to play as a Desolation marine during Space Marine 2 next year.
I wonder how they'll handle it.
Phenomenal work. Your work with the Primaris models makes me like them a lot more, my biggest peeve with Primaris Marines compared to Firstborn is they all look too samey (within a squad), the old Tactical Squads and Devastators and such gave you more options to kit out individual marines to give the squad some personality and see each one as a unique soldier. Your alterations not only resolve this issue but also fix the stupid guns into a more believable, but still very Warhammer-y slightly silly chunkiness I expect from Marines.
Definitely my favorite conversion of these guy's I've seen so far!
If I ever get around to buying a Desolation Squad, I feel like modeling them on Gravis bodies would help them feel less silly
seen some cool conversions with the rockets attached to the backpack. Like a should mounted arm thing.
You did a great job, this is a huge improvement. That original under-slung belt-fed gatling-but-not rocket launcher thing was absolutely absurd.
Best desolation conversion i’ve seen. Nice work as always Jaybo!
I find it funny that people think “missile guns” are impractical, but we have the RPG and the little known “rocket gun” that was the gyro jet pistol, but that is just my own opinion. Also love this conversion I did my own version that allowed me to put the four tube missile pods
When you were squeezing out the water for your decals, I was squeezing out the water out of my freshly shredded hash browns
I really like how you modeled these!!! If i ever get this kit, Ill likely be using this as a reference to make mine look not as derpy haha
I think Pete the Wargamer did an excellent kitbash of these guys for his Raptors army
5:05 "The gun is really more just a trigger and they take these rocket pods, stick them to the bottom, fire them off, and then just toss them."
Wait a minute, that basically the Rocket Launcher from Halo!
Best desolation marines I have seen on the internet hands down. Almost makes me want to buy the kit.
Inspiring - love figure conversions and mods.
The cross on the face was such a good addition
...This is how I'm doing my desolation squads... I gotta. There's no other way they work.
I have a squad of these guys, and my current plan was to have them as bulky walking artilary pieces with the pods attached to the bagback
Having flame patterns on your gun is a proud and rich tradition all the way back to the Rogue Trader days. Good work, sir!
This gave me so much inspiration for some iron warrior obliterator conversions
Great video, love the humour and the conversions
Amazing work as always. I would've painted the rocket tip red or something tho. Its a little plain having a gray rocket in a gray tube.
Useless side note: In the real world the back blast issue is worked around by 'cold launching' the missile with, basically, a compressed air blast or small launch charge. Once clear of the launcher the rocket propellant ignites for full thrust.
MY BOIS GOT TRANSFER SHEET SUPPORT!! I know the Raptors aren't a very major chapter by any means, but GW supporting them gives me hope they'll get more
wow the templar cross over the helmet looks awesome
Absolutely love your solution. I'm actually in the camp that thinks the Desolation squad looks "okay", just not thematically fantastic. It looks overthought on the weapons and underthought on everything else. If I bought a set of these, I would likely have done something similar with the missile launchers and I possibly would look into doing something to their armour to make them a little more unique. I had an idea of kitbashing Heavy Intercessors and a Desolation squad if I ever buy them. You could base them on 32mm to use them as a heavy Gravis looking Desolation squad, or even base them in 40mm and interchange them with Eradicators, or you could even do a magnetized 32mm on top of a 40mm to switch between both.
Fantastic work, if I ever end up with these guys somehow (a battleforce or whatever) I'll definitely do this, and put the targeting lenses on all the guns.
It always makes me a little anxious whenever I hear a sentence start with "And you know what else ___" before the halfway mark on these videos
tbh this is probably the most convincing 'fix' for these guys I've seen.
I really wish GW had just said, "Alright all the heavy weapons are going to go to gravis armor." I love the eradicators asthetic and would like to see them armed with all the other heavy weapons. I think the plamsma cannon version would've been awesome.
The modified weapons now remind me of a 40K WW2 Panzerfaust.
Yeah, that looks so much better. Great work.
I don't think there's ever been an EoB conversion that I don't like, great job!
Damn Jay these look so clean!
I've been seeing lots of people's takes on how the "fix" these and this is by far my favourite solution 🔥
Those underbarrel anti-infantry rocket launchers look like they're rotary chamber weapons, like the M39 20mm cannons formerly used in US aircraft (before the M61A1 Vulcan gun).
Just like the Pillsburry Doughboy marines you modded a while back, this kit looks *great* .... when you completely change it.
Great work, your army is looking fiiiiiiine, boiy!
Your freehand work is impressive!
I do not dislike or hate the Desolation Squad look, but I do genuinely quite like the kitbashing you did here. If I get any (which requires me starting a Space Marine Army) I would likely do them something like yours, maybe finding a different spot for the smaller launchers since I like the back mounted lenses
The templars cross across the helmet of the primaris marines is so good. Im gonna have to find some other even-sided chapter symbols to try this on.
I waited for someone to fix those goofy goofy guys ever since they’ve been revealed
I love the grenade rocket pod idea... I'm gonna have to make a set
a definite improvement in my opinion, those oversized guns do look ridiculous, especially the leader holding it up like a bolt gun
The Channel “Hammer of Wrath” did a cool conversion of the same kit.
Which video? looked at the channel but I didn't find it
Such a fantastic paint job.
I have loved those things since they announced them. Really need to print and paint some
These marines look way better with your conversion!!!! Great job.
Holy Emperor, this is exactly how I wanted to fix the desolators. Great minds think alike!
Awesome job. I feel that's what they were supposed to look like.
But what kind of guns are the base weapons? Bolters? Lasguns?
You know what I’m really surprised I thought it was gonna be the normal style conversion but this came out really well
Definitely a huge improvement! I feel like it would be very cool to make them be underslung guns (like some of the old Devastator models) but I have no idea how to make that happen 😅
underbarreled guns are cool in general. masterKey is my fav
No bayonet. I’m disappointed
Like you said, the reason they look silly is the way a rocket launcher works. But I really like your conversion, especially the mounted rocket launcher instead of the camera. Imo the camera on GW model looks weird in teh position it is
With all the CZcams videos of people “fixing” these space marines I think this might be GW’s most inspirational kit. Lol
Best Desolation marine conversion I've seen. Definitely going to be stealing this method! 👍
Damn.. my favorite looking bash yet for these dudes.
I definitely think that the double missile launcher would have looked better as and under-arm weapon (from GW, your conversion is sick), that way it can off-gas under the elbow, and carrying one in each hand would look better than either two shoulder supported launchers or what they did in this kit.
you could put the spear anti vehicles missile around the back on a sling since you said they were like one use you fire one and then take the one off your back and put it on and take 2
So freaking cool dude! You’re an inspiration!
Nice, they do look much better.
Pre-Watch:
He's finally doing it! Havent seen the vid yet but after seeing other hobbyist do their versions of a better desolation squad, Im very much looking forward to this one
Post Watch:
I really like these and always enjoy your takes on making not so good units look better and these are up there as one of your best. Eventually Ill get this kit when I start my Salamander army and see what I can come up with.
I didn’t give the captain the big rocket. I thought back to my US Marine Corps days and the officers, and high ranking enlisted, didn’t carry the biggest and best weapons. They carried pistols, It was the FNG. (F-ing New Guy) that carried it. I plan on kit bashing the big gun on a terminator in the future.
Gw should re done them in the style of Pete the wargamer Marines. His shoulder mounted weapons look way better than the standard kit. A touch of genius.
I love that you make a silly face at the end of all your videos!!! Hilarious edit!!!
My assumption is the rockets are 2 stage- one thump to clear the rocket from the launcher, the next stage is the acceleration stage. Since space Marines are super strong they can handle the recoil of the first stage without back blast. Maybe.
Easily my favourite take on these things soo far!
Love these ‘fixing’ videos!
Please inceptor swoopy stand next!!
Those helmet crosses are badass
The templar cross on the helmet looks so nice!
I'm definitely gonna go with Pete's method's when I get mine, but this is a really great take too.
