"I am a simple man that likes simple things" Sits in a 5000 dollar sim rig... 🍻 :-)
Don’t think it’s contradictory. Like, Teslas are simple to drive, but not cheap
Very simple to drive
I was about to say the same thing, LOL.
Where do you see a 5000 dollar Sim Rig? Ist a regular Aluminium Rig. Without seat and screens ~ 500 Euro
@@pete3816 what a bullshitt His setup isn't something special. It is a standard Aluminium rig
You know the developers have done a great job with the AI when the AI does not create the train effect when they are racing. We sim racers clearly understand that there's an ideal racing line but that ideal racing line is not always the ideal one when we are fighting for a position.
R3E are GREAT! Even better now with the ranked servers.
Bout time Dave !!!
R3e is so underrated !!!
New DTM is awesome !!!
See you on track
This is actually my favorite sim. Don't get me wrong, I like most all of them but this is the one I return to more often. It also works surprisingly well in VR.
Willing to share your settings? I can’t get it to look good in VR. And by look good I mean not pixely and horrible FPS shuttering
@Mattaroony I’m convinced I didn’t get my settings right. I have a powerhouse pc so I probably have something cranked to high
My sentiments exactly. I love the way it looks and performs in VR, but in the end the cars just feel really good and immersive to me. After this I like the original AC quite a bit.
One of the best things about this game is the selection of some incredible cars. It doesn't really matter whether they are all that authentic or even useful in a racing situation; just driving around in a group 5 racer or a GT1 car can be great fun. Sometimes you just want to relax and enjoy some of your favorite cars of all time. That's something I really do appreciate.
Do you have to buy things in order to play online? I read some comments on steam that said something similar
I bought 100% of everything in R3E and no regrets. The audio is amazing. The cars handle really awesome and the competitions are fun. The graphics could looks a little better but ehhhh physics and racefeel and audio are WAY more important to me anyway. I find that the cars are really easy to tune/dial in and get them feeling 100%.
I find FFB on newer content so much better than the old stuff. I just don't think they have the resources to update everything. Fortunately Covid has opened up some revenue for them.
Best sim I don't waste my time with other sim now I just race with race room wish I discovered it before.
I agree, I'm glad I tried this before jumping into iracing.
I've even stopped playing ACC now because of this sim.
Still nothing can pass AC in terms of fun.Full of mods and interesting things.
@@htk8581 Assetto Corsa is the king of sims for sure but the AI leaves a lot to be desired.
A small note about test drives: all of the content - cars and tracks - is pre-installed. Test drives and purchases involve no additional download time.
Hi Dave. Few pointers for you. Raceroom is cpu bound mainly, due to being dx9. The big thing that kills FPS is big AI grids. If you keep the numbers down a bit you should get a performance boost. multiclass is certainly a thing, just click the + button next to a class or individual cars to add them in. Glad you liked the game. Lots of new stuff coming up too.
Can't really agree with that but probably depends on using VR (I use Track IR 5). With Ryzen 7 3700x, GTX 1060, 32 GB Ram, 1080p/165 hz Monitor, I have 70 FPS at Spa with 75 AI's at start (and maxed out settings plus sparsegrid supersampling via NVI )- during race +100 FPS. Just for those who might fear that their non-vr-standard hardware might not be enough...;)
@@n01sname it's a fact. Your CPU is more than strong enough to run big grids. You're on a single screen too.
@@n01sname Ravey is correct
Great video, Dave. Thanks for your honest thoughts, as always. Also glad you liked it. I think Race Room is very underrated and underplayed. Hopefully the ranked races will bring more popularity. Cheers!
Thanks Dave. This series of videos has been fantastic. I'd never tried RaceRoom, but this video convinced me to give it a go. I really like it! Much underrated. Keep up the good work, it's much appreciated.
You're in for a treat with the group 5 cars. It's one of my favourite classes ever.
Masochistic
you can simply run mutli class races if you click "+" on the first car of any class, then same fot the next class and so on. After you choose the classes hit autofit.
I tried the free download. I bought the complete game.
Raceroom is great. Not too bad in VR either.
How is the content on the free version?
Ear it was just like 5 or 6 cars on 5 or 6 tracks.
@@mc1996 yeah the base content is quite shit.
Lets be honest, foe £60 for all the content, this game is a bargain in comparison even to games like ACC.
How can you get ALL content for 60bucks? I spent much more and havent all at the moment
@@DieTabbi You gotta buy the Premium pack. When you do, you can grab all of their contents AT THE MOMENT. All the contents that comes out after, you gotta pay normally. Still, it's an amazing deal considering the mass of the content.
Honestly it’s such a great game
You convinced me chap :)
Whenever I get my simrig this will be one of the firsts, if not the first sim that I’ll try out. Great and useful content, as always! 👍🏼🙌🏼
I have them all, iRacing, Ams2, ACC, RF2 and raceroom is my favorite!
Brilliant review. And fair.
Keep up with the good work, Dave.
13:06 *me, a McLaren 650 GT3 player wondering what having consistently good grip feels like*
Next to ACC this is my number 2...... just a amazing sim...the sounds are awesome too. oh btw Dave .....don't put the sun that low on the horizon then your shadows wont be that long...keep it at 12 o'clock.
I have a Fanatec DD1. Mostly switching between AC and R3E, I'm always happy to be back at R3E. Since the big physics- and FFB-Update, it is the first Sim where the FFB feels as if your steering wheel is connected to a rubber tyre and not as if the front axis is fixed to rails on the track (not traction wise but FFB wise). That soft bouncy bumpy feeling is absolutely unique to R3E. I have not tried ACC yet because my PC is to weak (racing only in VR).
Nice that you tried it out Dave ;)
AI, you can go Adaptive and they will race you really nice and hard because they adapt to your speed and driving style.
You have to try Knutstorp Ring racetrack, it´s the mini Green hell ;)
Also, I would recommend trying the BMW GT2 car, it´s so nice to drive. M235i super fun as well. And DTM 2016 & 2020. If you go chase cam on those cars and listen to the exhaust notes it´s amazing.
Oh almost forgot, the silhouette cars are crazy nice to drive and they are in the free content!
Great to see you doing R3E Dave ha'way the lads!
for me not being big into sim racing i definitely got hooked with this game the feel of my wheel jolting when i shift being able to quickly take poeple through corners and the actual real feel just is overall amazing
The best content in Raceroom is the DTM cars (both the 90s ones and the current ones)
Raceroom got me hooked on sim racing. But since joining iracing the steering in raceroom just feels so lacklustre. Maybe I will try and tweak some settings. You changed the rotation to 900 in the individual car settings so that's maybe something I could try Dave.
The AMG gt3 merc just sounds amazing and the fact that you can create races with lots of unusual car classes. The ai is brilliant and fight hard so the excitement is great without the fear of losing safety rating. Ha ha
There was a ranked schedule at 19:30. These servers will start showing up once you get you rating high enough in the rookie races. There's definitely some good racing there and these are most populated in EU evening hours. Also rumour has it that there's another big update coming for rankeds, so that's something to definitely look forward to.
" 60 is plenty " I feel the same way,great review!
This is already looking better than iRacing... don't know why I didn't consider this one earlier since I have virtually all other sim racing programs. Thanks for sharing this great video!
I've had RRRE since 2014 and never really got into it much but the past year the devs seemed to have been putting it into high gear making a lot of changes and opening up competitions and ranked races and now leagues are doing RRRE, group of friends started one and I joined, the DTM's, WTCR's and GTR3's are a lot of fun. I'm a long time sim racer since the 1990's and iRacing was my main goto racing game (and still kind of is but I'm on a break and have been doing ACC leagues) but I've been spending more time in RRRE this past couple weeks and the last time I played it was in 2018.
Thanks for covering RRE Dave. I agree with Michael Tasker - very few have uncovered what I consider one of the best overall sims. Great graphics, sounds, many cars & tracks. I believe they benefit from their pay platform that gives them a good budget I'm sure to keep such high standards.
Do check out the 2020 DTM Audi. This is the absolute best driving, best sounding car in any of the top sims I've tried. I like your honest reporting and all the content you provide.
I have them all, iRacing, ACC, AMS2, RF2 but raceroom is my favorite ❤️!
This sim has the best sounds, top AI, best track and car selection, fantastic price... now with their new FFB coming June, this will quickly become top 2-3 for most people, but top 1 for me. If it everything could stay the same and get better looking graphics...:)
I'm very happy to see, that you had a look at raceroom. I'm a big fan of this sim and I'm driving in a very well organized championship in raceroom.
In my opinion raceroom sounds best of all sims, looks smooth and fine und the performance ist great.
The backfires, the shifting response, flatspots etc are brilliant.
I think you can feel the cars roughness in a great way.
Group5 is the right thing to check, but DTM and TCR are also very fun to drive.
Some tips: in case of performance you should look for decrease shadows and car reflections. They are very expensive on this engine. You won't even see the difference, but get a lot of frames.
Greetings from Germany, i like the way you handle the whole simracing world. Nice and smooth as you say. And your respect for the cars.. stopping the car after race in a gentle and respectful way, I like it.
I'm looking forward to see you on raceroom, cause i even enjoy your videos, although I'm not an iracer.
Thank you Florian 😁
Yeah, crewchief works. They also now have good weekly races. Not as clean as you can get in iRacing (iRacing of course sometimes is mayhem too) but still it's ranked and cleaner than typical sims online. I like they have a weekly endurance race now also. AI has improved markedly the last year. It's overall a slightly easier sim to drive than others but I think it's very fun. Plenty of people online still spin out, brake too late, etc.. so it's still a sim. :)
Hands down my favorite sim of the bunch at the moment. My iRacing sub will lapse this time around.
This sim combined with a good community is the best thing out there imo.
The sounds, the netcode, the car selection and niché tracks.
Nothing else can deliver tin top action like this old gem
Also slap on Otterhud web ui to get the helicorsa, really makes it easier to race superclose
R3E is fantastic and keeps getting better. Small team with big plans. I hope it keeps improving
several drivers say that the iracing has a very different grip from the real one, where exploring the limits of the cars is very unreal. the porsche cup is my favorite in the iracing but it does not seem real its form of control. great videos.
More raceroom, Dave!!
the dudes behind this sim are long time veterans, the staff has some people who made gtr2 back from 2006, over twenty years of experience on racing sims.
Hope to see more raceroom rank game!
Great Friday night in lock down, Dave on raceroom and acold Guinness. Cheers Dave
Great Rig. On a slight digression......How do you get mouse cursor to show in the menus? Have tried for a day to get it back and have reinstalled game/drivers/usb. I have the steam addition? Any chance you can point me in the right direction. I have a 4k monitor attached to a laptop with the display settings at to extend display. Other screen is my laptop screen (1080p) Many Thanks
You do a great review Dave. Just a personal opinion from a good sim racer without the all the gumpf 👍👍👍
I really like raceroom. i race mainly iracing due only to the on-demand online racing. I've heard whispers that the online ranking in raceroom is getting an overhaul which will definitely get me back to raceroom quicksmart. A few people moan about the cost of raceroom which is laughable in comparison to iracing. i've spent the best part of £500 on iracing over the last couple of years. 50 quid(or therabouts) gets you EVERYTHING in raceroom. really glad to see you doing some raceroom content Dave, next time you race, give otterhud a spin (in-car UI) Crewchief pairs really well with it.
I agree with you! The one big thing I miss is the road feel. I don't have any at all, only kerbs. Maybe it is a setup thing but I have never figured it out. So it feels very numb.
I totally agree....but I went wide at road America onto the concrete slabs and they were amazingly done! So much definition. Surely it's doable?!
I did a video on this for the simpit crew channel back in 2018. Great sim in my opinion! One major gripe from me was the way you buy content - their store experience is awful, but you wouldn't know that if you got all your content for free. The other problem I see with this title is, the free trial stuff is a track you don't know and a car you don't know. It would be better if they gave you a GTR3 car and a well known track. Thanks for the video - maybe more people will fill the public lobbies in this sim.
now they have Sepang among free tracks too. selection of free cars is lacking, yeah. but you can test drive any car in the game for as long as you like
Worth a look! My current fav is Assetto Corsa with SRS. Very competitive and much cleaner than iRacing.
You cannot criticise the sound in R3E! Thats what its renowned for. Best sounds of any sim.
One point you missed is the "buy-it-all" price they offer.... to buy all the cars and tracks for one price.. I did this last summer, and got all of what what out at that time for less than $100, so while it is free, even if you buy it, it is leagues cheaper than iRacing... cheers!
Hahaha. You make the exact same sounds I make when I get loose. Thing is its just me, no cameras, no one else around. lol
Dave where do you find a spotter in Raceroom. i would love to have one in my races ?
Have issues with wheel and pedals working? Can’t get out of pit lane any advice?
A Brit winning a race at Silverstone ...shocking. I am enjoying you explore new sims. There are many that are underrated .
where did you buy that wheel and stuff and how do you set it up?
R3E gets even better when you try it in VR!
I really like Raceroom. All the curbs have FFB in Raceroom, where in iRacing I remember it just being on a few tracks like the Roval. Wish it had iRacing's online model though.
Also helps that getting everything in Raceroom is like 90 bucks. $90 gets you like 3 cars and tracks and a month of access in iRacing, really expensive.
The GTO Classics and the Group 5s are *damn fun*
R3E is best bang for buck, much and great content, very good ffb, nice sounds
WOW I don't think I have seen R3E look quite as beautiful as this & 60 fps + on triples. Could we have a POV video?
Oh yes 😁
Try to get 90, 120 FPS is you monitor supports such refresh rate. Make a huge difference on how smooth any games become... I switched from a triple setup to a Samsung super ultra Wide G9/C9 HDR and now I can see my 2 side mirrors, but I now can crank up my settings and get really high FPS and the contrast on HDR is mind blowing. Loving it!
I just noticed in the FFB settings you have kerb vibrations and shift effect turned off, any reason for that? They may be artificial affects, but I feel like they add a lot to the overall immersion. I really miss these in other sims now that I got used to them in RR:).
I just copied someone else's settings. I need to mess around a little more to dial it in 👍
R3E the most underrated sim there is, RF2 is not underrated at all, maybe by clueless people but true sim racers know all about rfactor 2, its incredible.
Ooooh I love this game! :)
Does R3E rain and night races? Ok after 2 times watching you said. my english is so bad
This is a great sim & not very demanding. It’s my go to for when I take a few days away from iRacing.
Hey Dave can you make a video about your DD1 settings you have now since you have had the DD1 for awhile now? I would really like to know your profiles for the games you play the most. I am still working our kinks of my new DD1. I love it but really want to dial in the FFB settings in the Fanalab software with the 400 driver update
AFAIK, CrewChief was designed to work with RaceRoom, so R3E is the sim it works best.
@DaveCam - please let people know that the 'optional content' is often on sale for $50 USD during major sales like the upcoming "BlackFriday" weekend sale in Late November.
You can also get a R3E Dedicated Server app from steam (also free) and create your own leagues or private races... or public if that's your thing. I love R3E!
Drive the DTM 92 Mustang for some audio porn, especially on downshifting! :-D
Hi Dave, just installed the game after watching your vid so tkx for the great content ! Would you mind giving link to tuts to solve my 2 main problems please ? 1 steering not working properly with a fanatec wheel base v1.1 and 2 proper triple monitor setup using nvidia surround. Tkx !
I like a man that doesn't stick to one sim for life.. good to try new stuff
In set ups on the top right under steering angle set ffb multiplier to 2.5 it's mega Dave
RaceRoom, for me, IMHO, is the so far best looking, best sounding, best overall feeling of all other sims. IRacing for its online racing, then... automobilista 2.... ^^ But, everyone's prefs on that ;-) Thnx for sharing
what setup do u use to get 50 fps ?=)
Hi Dave, awesome, i love RaceRoom as well (Even if i play it with controller xd). Black Friday will coming soon, i maybe going to buy my first sim setup, any advice for a budget of 500?
Thrustmaster T300 is a cracking wheel 👍
Adaptive AI works really well. It improves as you improve and aims to always give you a competitive field. Make qualifying a worthwhile offline experience too.
I can’t get RR to work with my 49” ultra wide. When it loads it’s off the screen and the controls for the window is hidden, only thing I can do is close it.
Any help would be appreciated
Don't know how to help you, but it works fine on mine 49", so it's possible.
If it wasn't for your settings video then id have forgot that I owned this game, and forgot I paid for the extortionate price for the full version. Now i got that off my chest, I really like this. Some of the car sounds are a little dull, however the Porsche GT3 around Bathurst is a dream. Even a Sim Racing pleb like myself I can get close to first place on AI level 100. Doesn't mean im any good, far from it, but overall its very good. :)
Excellent vid as always Dave, here are my couple points:
*8x msaa as you was using is massive overkill, 4x would be as far as i might go, 2x for more performance if needed.
*From your performance overlay it seemed like gpu was not working at its full power, looks like cpu bottleneck?
*I personally disagree that raceroom looks nice compared to other modern sims especially acc, it looks clean but dx9 side showing its age massively, i mean just look at that sun and "clouds" :D
*No night and rain is again pretty tough hit for otherwise for such a nice sim, in 2014 it would been fine but in 2020 almost 2021 nah :(.
*Im loving what they are trying to achieve with ranked multiplayer as this been recent change, and as you can see from steam charts almost since when it was introduced raceroom started to gain new players which is awesome to see.
*what else.. ahh sounds are awesome and they have nice suspension damage if you hit curbs too hard, not sure if they have punctures.
*They got my interest again with its new multiplayer changes as i was starting to forget that it existed, looking forward for further development!
they have punctures yes! if you flat spot your tyres too many times or go to the gravel too many times they can blow up
@@simaomarques99 Thats awesome, never had puncture on rre
@@h1tzzYT its a bit hard to happen but in the tcr cars it's possible. And if you flat spot you tire the it's easier to lock up at braking like in real life. Yes it's a bit old on the graphics. But I think overall it's amazing!
R3E might be my favorite sim. I don’t know that there’s any single area in which it’s the best but it might win because it’s a strong second place in virtually every category.
For anyone who wants to get into R3E the best option for buying content in my opinion is to wait for a sale and then get the top level pack that gives you all the content in the game. I got everything for well under $100.
The best content IMO is the GT / tin top cars. The hill climb circuits are great fun too especially with the hill climb specific cars. The KTM X-bow is great as well.
Most realistic AI of any game out there...PERIOD
Actually I agree with you there. I can’t say whether it’s realistic or not but it’s certainly the most functional AI I’ve ever encountered.
@@bensoniusprime having road raced motorcycles in my past I can tell you for sure best AI of any sim game I've ever tried (we're talking going back to Indycar1)
Best MOST REALISTIC AI behavior of ANY sim racing game PERIOD....Modern multiclass at Bathurst and Nordschliefe just plain AMAZING.....The only mark against it for me is the UI in VR..its a little bit wonky
Are you going to revisit race room anytime soon?
I’ve got not it recently and it’s a nice feeling sim
I had no idea this sim was for free. Somebody finally told me on a racing driver's channel a few days back. Gonna have to test it out myself.
Probably my second fav sim only to rF2. last Christmas they were running a discount and I ended up buying every piece of content they offer.
I think thats how I got everything too... waited for 50% off the Complete Pack. Bought it twice, so I could have a friend join too! lol
@@hijinxvr1027 I love stock car racing though so prob would keep iracing
Having just finished iracing 3 months cheap trial I moved to Raceroom and bought all the content and im not regretting it one bit. Welcome to the rookie class Dave, great vid as always.
I did similar.....tried RF2 and AC after getting ACC on console but I ended up in RaceRoom because it's just the best value for money sim. Really enjoying my Wednesday evening endurance races.
That Ai on off throttle was rF2 !
I love RaceRoom, the Ranked servers are fantastic and the racing is competitive and fair.
You should use raceroom hub and crewchief next to raceroom it helps out alot
Hey Dave, any plans on some new content for Raceroom? Thanks
I think Crew Chief was originally designed for RR...
I really like the looks of raceroom so I downloaded it but I had so many problems trying to get raceroom to recognise my DD1 and simworx pedals to work I gave up on it.
I uninstalled the game re installed game restarted the game multiple times.
Then triples were a pain but I have watched your video so I can now sort that out.
But another great Video Dave thanks.
We use DD1 wheel bases here at the Studio, and I've aided in several of our eSports VIPs with setting up that very pedal set. All you have to do is reach out for us and the help is there 👍
@@raceralexuk happy for any help Alex
Hey Dave, great video... Your avg FPS is great for all settings at high. What CPU are you running? Unfortunately R3E is not optimized very good and therefore even with a mega system you not going to get a great avg FPS..
Are you running triples? Because i get 150-200fps with 35 ai at bathurst no hiccups with a r3 3100 and rx580 which combined is 370$ AUD
@@dylan.p7344 yes, I’m running triples at that is whats killing the fps. The GPU performance does not help, more the CPU that gives the performance.
If you want more performance from the pc just dial the anti-aliasing to 4x msaa or 2x. Will get a heap of frames from dropping it down
Hi Dave, you can set up the "adaptive AI", it will match your pace, when you make quali for example
And there is also the Porsche GTE in there
Sorry if I missed this Dave, but is RaceRoom only playable on a PC and not available on consoles?
Yes just on pc I'm afraid ☹️
The only reason i play this sim is the vintage cars tbh.
I bought the Group 5 and other older GT-cars and they are a BLAST to drive.
Not many sims have those, raceroom also has some of the best sound design so its crazy with those cars. :D
Just try to handle the power of freedom that is within the Greenwood C3 Corvette, as it challenges every corner into a fistfight, while the Zakspeed Ford Capri screams its way into the wall, and you hear the whine of the turbo saying "surprise!".
enjoyed this sim for the past year have spent over 250 hours in it. it's great all round sim offline Ai is great with adaptive setting so the better you get the harder the Ai get. online ranked server is easy to join . only thing is the handling when you lose the back end it is impossible to recover it !! that imo is where rf2 wins hands down. another great vid Dave thank's
did you tried to recover iracing back end?
@@okie1630 no don't own iracing to expensive for me. have heard the tyre model is crap from pro drivers who use it .
@@gav_h73 yet pro use it anyway...? im complete casual and i found live for speed ffb more real out of box than R3E; i don't own a car though
@@okie1630 rre ffb is just very well right now. Iracing tyre model is just not too real according to pro drivers, too slippy and it makes the car too ubforgiving, in a not realistic way. Rfactor2 is as broken as Iracing but in the other extreme, too forgiving and you can take a gt3 and slide everywhere to be fast.
You should leave the Steering angle in the car setup default how it is for every car Dave. You just drove the Porsche Cup with 900 deg Steering angle when that car has a 486 deg steering angle irl . Just set in Gameplay settings the Steering Animation to - Match setup . The wheel rotation and animation will then be controlled by the game. That is the reason the cup car felt weird as you said at the end of the video :D
I'll give that a whirl and set my wheelbase to auto 👍
