This time there's no wooden boat stuff, but some tinkering with our dinghy's outboard motor. Our rowboat goes too fast for trolling, because the engine's clutch grips only with relatively high RPM. By this clutch delete, i'm able to drive while the engine idles.
Honda part number for the operation: 22257-ZW6-000
Same part suits both Honda BF 2 and BF 2.3
BF 2 and BF 2.3 are actually the same outboard, the only difference is that 2 is a straight drive version and 2.3 has a clutch.
Tyrsky is an old finnish wooden boat, made in the early '70s. This vlog is about boating in the lake Saimaa and living with a wooden boat. Sometimes also useful tips and opinions you are free to disagree with.

It was really enough to install weaker clutch spring or to remove the spring at all and you would be good to go.

This propably is a very good tip, now that you mention it. Removing the spring might be a bit daring but a weaker spring sounds like a good idea!

Just what I wanted to do. Thanks

What about just removing the springs so that the pads of the clutch can’t come off the clutch housing?
Mine is slipping and I’m far from anywhere with parts so I’m looking at fixing it without needing additional parts ⛵️

I don't think it would work just by removing the spring, but maybe it could be possible to weld or bolt it solid somehow?

It would have been nice if you told us what part you were replacing and showed it and what it cost. When my little motor goes too fast I just adjust the idle down a little. Bad boy

The part number is in the desrcription of the video and if I remember correctly, it cost something like 30-40€ + a few 20mm M6 (or were they M8) bolts to replace the original longer bolts.

Did you have to re use the old clutch housing bearing or did the shaft coupler do away with it completely?

Hi Manu, l have 2hp one. Last week l removed most of the parts (did not remove the clutch) to clean it because it was leaking oil. After l assambled all parts back l noticed that there is no neutral any more. Unless l pull the choke the prop starts turning when the engine starts. Do you have any idea what l did wrong and how to get my clutch working again. Thanks, Leo

Hi Leo, first thing that comes to my mind is that assembly has gone a bit wrong and / or the clutch is somehow stuck. I would try to disassemble and re-assemble the clutch and try again.

Would it not be easier to adjust spring so they are always engaged so you can troll at tick over..??

    • @ManuEloaho
      @ManuEloaho  Před 2 lety

I don't know would it be easier, because there is a part in Honda parts catalogue for this, (compared to finding and testing different springs) but I guess it could be possible? I also would be interested in experiences of changing the spring!

hello manu, i want to solve the same problem. I have unscrewed all the bolts at the bottom but the engine won't come loose. Do you have any advice for this? Regards Dave

Hello Dave, i'm not sure do i remember it correctly (it's been a year since i did this video), but i removed more than 3 bolts. There's 3 bolts holding the motor to the bottom and was there 3 or 4 more holding the plastic cover underneath the motor. I removed all of them and then gently knocked the parts loose.

The clutch is often tight. Particularly if it is old and there is alot of wear. So you will need to remove all of the bolts as instructed in the shop manual (freely available from Honda online) and give it small taps with a rubber mallet. It will come free.
