On our midsummer trip to the lake Saimaa, we pitched up our tent sauna.
Our sauna is quite old, from the '90s, but the original stove has already burnt through with all the use. SOme few years ago we replaced it with a finnish army tent stove made by Savotta, that was modified in to a sauna stove.
Tyrsky is an old finnish wooden boat, made in the early '70s. This vlog is about boating in the lake Saimaa and living with a wooden boat. Sometimes also useful tips and opinions you are free to disagree with.

    Hey,
I also have a tent sauna, but I sometimes have trouble heating it up enough... How thin should the pieces of Wood be? Do you leave the lower ashtray drawer open all the time? Should I leave the stove door Open? Also I thought about putting another layer of tarp on top so that it stays warmer. I would greatly appreciate some tipps!

Thank you for your comment, Knorzo!
In my experience, the smaller & dryer the wood is, the faster the sauna will heat up. But mostly it is about getting the stove stones hot. When they are properly heated, the hot humidity from throwing water to the stove surely warms up the whole tent.
Usually I keep the ashtray a bit open when heating the stove, because of the increased draft. I close it only when i change from heating to maintaining the heat.
At least in my sauna, i don't think extra tarps on top help as much as blocking the cold air coming from the ground, but it might? When you try it, share me your experiences?

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply Manu! If I get to try it with an extra tarp on top I will absolutely Tell you (that is if I can find a suitable cheap tarp).
By the way, really awesome video, I really enjoyed it, I forgot to mention in the comment before!

About 70 degrees Celsius in the savotta tent Sauna. Savotta is nice because it has Excellent customer service. For example, my Main Pole Broke from snow in winter, and they sent me another one from Finnland to Germany free of Charge. Apart from that, the Morz tent Sauna Looks nice, it is insulated so it can get up to 100 degrees Celsius.

@@ManuEloaho Hey Manu! I have been using a thick fire retardant tarp as an extra layer on the tent for a while now. One that is usually used for trucks. I have to say it improves the experience in my opinion! It heats up much faster (which is kind of pointless since the stones take just as long :D) and it holds the heat much better, which is cool. Also, I can now just keep the tent pitched, since its well protected from humidity. I think an extra layer helps to use less wood since it holds the heat better, but you have to be careful not to overheat the tent, once I wasnt and managed 100°C ! :D

The base temperature isn't that hot, but with löyly (water on the stove) the steam gets as hot as it would in wooden sauna, or maybe even more.

    What are the best rocks?

    • @ManuEloaho

Those at hand, in my opinion :) I don't want to carry bucketloads of rocks on the boat, so i always collect them from the nature.
