    I appreciate the knowledge of the GTI from a reviewer who has owned one. The ability to compare the GTI and a Golf R from someone who has owned both, not just test drove both appreciated as well.

    Just traded my 2016 GTI in on a 2021 GTI DSG in Cornflower Blue. I got so tired of all the European reviews of the Mk 8 and the fact that not many seemed to like all the cheap touches and the seemingly lack of acceleration considering the horsepower increase, I'm happy with my decision. Those wheels, I believe are off the Clubsport we don't get here but they are forged and only 17 pounds, pretty nice addition!

      How are you liking your GTI so far? I also drive a 2021 and I love it with the exception of couple things that are annoying the hell out of me!! Passenger door has developed a really annoying creaking/Squeaky noise from plastic trim around the doors also, when Idle or stop/start is activated I hear a high pitch noise that seems to be coming from underneath the car. Have you noticed any of these issues? Cheers

      @@earthrocks7885 Hi, no problems like yours, I too love driving the car. My bitch is the "Infotainment" display which should have the G-meter, oil and water temperature gauges is still missing after 14 months of ownership and I get ZERO help from VW Canada, my 2016 GTI had this as does my wife's '19 GLI. VW's software has a lot of issues, I wish they nailed this down before selling the car. If it wasn't't so much fun to drive I would consider changing brands but stuck on the driving experience...

      @@meleana4 I hear you. I was thinking to go for IS 300 but the ride is too sweet. I forgot to mention the backup camera image has frozen twice upon putting the car in reverse. The camera displays a frozen static image. This is a serious problem as I was very close hitting other parked cars. Also, occasionally I get no sound at all from Infotainment system!! I have to turn off the car, wait 5 minutes snd start again.
      Number of electronic problems with this car. VW has recalled over 43,000 cars and SUVs to fix a software glitch. I am getting the software update next week.

      I had the media playing music loudly and no volume control and couldn't shut it off, had to park in the driveway and leave it for a half hour, finally shut off. When this freezes try pushing the volume knob and holding for over 10 seconds, this reboot SOMETIMES works. I wish VW would start looking after their long time customers better.. My dealer is OK, their hands are tied by corporate VW's lack of response to myself or them.

      @@BrakRulesAll I worked at a ford/vw/audi dealership all last summer and fall. The cars come off the truck in a big coth zipper bag, that plastic wrap is only on the hatch. Recon members (what I did) fuel the car, bring it back into the wash/detail bays, remove the rest of the plastic and cloth wrap that wasn't removed in the drop off area. Then it's sent to the technicians to be pdi'ed. Also, I own a pure white mk7.

    I just purchased an 6-speed manual SE in this same color. What a hoot to drive. I'd say go for the 2021; dealers are heavily discounting these, and you get a bunch of stuff standard now (the better breaks, limited slip diff, etc) that used to be extra. Plus the MK8 is kinda ugly lol

    They don't require premium. Minimum requirement is 87 octane. Says directly on the label beside gas cap. Premium is only recommended for best performance, says directly on label beside gas cap. Hearing that a GTI take only premium or 91 octane is a myth. Hell, my wife has been using regular gas in her Golf R since 2012. It has zero problems and 230,000 Kilometers. I am not condoning the use of regular, however, using it is not going to ruin your engine my boys.

      @@rodolforascon5712 Why? Do you mean the lack of features that VW seems to remove more of each year? I just bought the '21 GTI and am happy, all the European tests had it slower to 60, Car and Driver had 5.1. I wonder why all the rest were so slow? It was a deciding factor besides the cheapening every year.

    • @meleana4
      @meleana4 Před 3 lety +1

      @@rodolforascon5712 Apples and oranges I guess, I had a '16 GTI manual and my wife has a '19 GLI "35" Edition which has lots of bells and whistles but is missing a lot, shiny plastic on the back doors, no hydraulic hood strut, no height adjustment or lumbar on the passenger seat and more, I would easily trade "lane Assist" for all of the above.
      That's why after planning on a MK8 for more than a year I bought a '21 GTI Autobahn in Cornflower Blue with DSG and those fantastic, forged 17.5 pound Belvedere wheels. The only issue which I hope gets resolved it the software is from the new model and it sucks, you can't turn the Lane Assist off and no G-Meter or boost gauge (at least not yet). Last year of a model is "supposed" to be the best and I can see a lot of recalls for the new model..
