  • Friend and I make our first attempt at summiting Wyoming's highest point, Gannet Peak, on Sep 8th, 2023. We started the 3-day hike at the Green Lake's Trail head, walked ~12.5 miles up green lake's / continental divide trail and then start up Tourist Creek. About 6 miles later, we ran out of light and set up our tent at, what I'm going to call, Silent Lake (Lake directly East of Mount Solitude).
Day 2, we set off to summit Gannett. After about 6 hours, we were close to the top of the Eastern Couloir (~45 mins from summit) when storms started forming and quickly approaching us. Do to the long decent, we decided to head down and not risk being on the steep side of the mounting in the rain/snow. Made it back to our tent after dark.
Day 3, we made the long trip back the way we came. Made it back to the car after walking the last mile in the dark.
    ~37 miles in total.

So close! At least you made it that far but that'd be tough turning around that close. Going to try it again?

Ya it was a hard choice. There was much more cloud activity that wasn't captured. But yes, we are planning on making an attempt this year. The pain of rock hopping as left my mind and just looking to get back there!

@@therangingtank1 We tried it in Sept '22 and got rained out. Been wanting to try it again but I can't find a capable partner.
