Packrafting the Green River WY | Our First River Paddle Trip
Vložit
- čas přidán 8. 10. 2022
- After a successful inaugural packrafing in Escalante (blog post with details from that below), we were fired up to get back on the water. We quickly got to work planning our second packrafting trip, this time, we were ready for more technical water and add to our growing skills on the water. For this we returned to our beloved Wind River mountain range to backpack and packraft the beautiful Green River. Join us for the adventure!

Those Gnarwhals can pretty much do anything. Great video!
So delighted to see you again. More ultra quality cinematography, story lines, dialogue. Can’t wait for your upcoming adventures.
Thank you so much! Happy this video is finally seeing the light of day!
Nice guys:) Love seeing you out in the Alpackas! Maybe catch ya on my way back home to Alaska, heading north from Vegas mid-Nov-ish
Thank you for cheering me up today 🫶🏻
Happy to be able to do that!
0:26 I like the use of signal lights in the middle of nowhere
such a sweet way to celebrate Owen's birthday. How touching. ♥️
I agree! He had a blast!
Where most videos give me fomo, all of your videos make me feel like we are on the adventure together. Love your channel!!
That is an incredibly kind compliment as we want people to envision themselves outside because that makes it easier to start getting out there on your own! So thank you for that!
Missed you guys
We missed being here too. Takes a lot for us to complete a project. A lot goes into these videos!
its great!
Thank you so much!
Foo Fighters! Nice! MAK, you’re my hero but you’re extraordinary!
Buying an Alpacka was one of, if not the best, gear purchase I’ve ever made.
When you can take a boat, an inflatable seat, paddles, an inflation bag, a PFD, a backpack attachment system, a carbon fiber rod holder, a ul fishing rod and reel/Tenkara setup, all the bait and tackle you need, a magnetic collapsible net, and it only adds 7 lbs to your baseweight it allows you to add a whole different dimension to adventuring.
And when you’re 20 miles into the backcountry and you’re the only one on an alpine lake… you are the envy of everyone around you. And then it forces your friends to get one too. Which only means more backcountry adventures to come. Imo it is a must for anyone who is serious about the outdoors.
Not 2 months ago we were also in Wyoming, hiking the CDT to Heart Lake. I can’t tell you how cool it was to set up camp on that lake, blow up the packraft, and go straight to the water for the rest of the afternoon. Chef’s kiss!
As always, awesome content BFN! I hope this shows others what I already know, and what they’re missing. It’s an expense for sure, but it’s no less expensive than a good DCF tent. And the ROI is exponential.
Just Wow guys! Really Wow! Took me back to my early years living and exploring in WY.
I can't believe this wasn't in my recommendations!! I have the bell on and everything!!
Solid retention strategy. Show the @TightLoops van in the intro and then wait until the end to show Chase and Aimee fly fishing. 😂
Enjoyed the video, thanks!
HAHAH I just read this to them and we all had a good laugh about it!
Glad to see you back. Another Glorious and Beautiful video. Thanks for what u do and being you!!
Thank you kindly! That means so much to hear!
Looks like allot of fun :) I'm going to get a pack raft:)
always a good day when I see a video from yall
What a fabulous explore. it's healing and so cool! Thanks ,Cheer 🍻🎉🎊🎉
Thank you so much! We had a blast!
Great video! Watching this was how I learned about Packrafting & was instantly hooked! Many thanks 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Have fun out there!
What a stunning show! The scenery, music, narration...all combined to ease the chill of this cold autumn night in middle Tennessee. Beautifully put together...thank you.
Aw thank you so much! It always feels good for things that we've been working really hard on to see the light of day!
I have been to that place a few times. September is epic with no bugs. Also, I have seen the salmon running between the lower and upper lakes so thick you could walk on their backs. We kayaked the length of both lakes and were able to also paddle between the two lakes. So no portage required. I think maybe in the fall when the flow is lower that this is easier. We also kayaked from the lower lake down the river and then car shuttled back to the campground. We saw lots of anglers doing pretty well especially on the river below the lower lake. Also a bald eagle.
which lakes are? i would like to look them up on google earth.
thankees
what is the place name? ??
I was there exactly a month ago today. I had already forgot how beautiful it was. This took me right back.
What mountain is that? I need to see that in person.
@@JasonSmith-wj2ht It’s Squaretop Mt in the Green River/Wind River range of WY, about a 2-3hr drive SE from Jackson.
Great film. Good to see y'all again.
Yeah feels good to have something to share! We are always working on video projects but they just take so long to see the living world ;)
I worked as a ranger in Wyoming for a while and there's nothing like it. i hope you did a series!
Beautiful adventure - love this chapter.
Thank you so much! It was a blast!
Your in my backyard! Amazing video... so glad your back.
In 2016 a trip had to be shortened. The company that shipped the boat to Wyoming crushed it with a forklift. Because of 10 or 11 permits,, each date specific,, the solution was to chop off the top of the trip, and spend the time getting a new boat in place. So, the trip began in Green River, Wyoming on Expedition Island. It was supposed to have started exactly where you put in above the Upper Green River Lake. I have studied the trail maps, seen the available photos. I have imagined every foot , but not seen it till now. Thank you.
The 2016 trip finished at Lake Havasu City. Since then I have done the entire thing twice or as many as 5 times for individual portions. NOW I wanna go back to where I should have started, above the Green River Lakes.
Absolutely love your films...A huge smile and a cheerfully loud " Hell Yes" came from my lungs when I saw this pop up! Glad to see you guys spending some time floating with the flow, much love slainte!
Yeah it's been a while for us sharing a video but the funny thing is we always seem to be working on video projects. We just work differently I guess ;)
Oh I know y’all are busy…I follow you two on Instagram and loved the group trip to Nepal and your right about being different, that’s why I enjoy your films so much!
It a great day when you guys post ❤
Thank you it is for us too! HA to FINALLY get something out the door!
Thank you for making this trip….cause I definitely won’t be able to.😅 But if I did, it would be with a rented reindeer to haul my gear on land and swim through the rivers and lakes while I paddled.🤪
What a great river to float. Nothing like the moment you get in your boat and have nothing to do but float, fish, and camp on sand bars. I think I sleep better in my boat with a down quilt and a tarp to keep the dew and rain off than in my bed at home. Looks like you got more gear than you need but, that usual on the first trip. You will get lighter and more enjoyment on the next, next and next one.
Iguana
Absolutely amazing cinematography and editing! Keep up the great work!
Yeaaaa nice 3wt
Another awesome video! I was lucky enough to see the source of that river a couple years ago!
Always stoked for another video, incredible cinematography
Y'all are just too damn good...the last few minutes with the kinda behind the scenes and the still shots along with the music was just spot on. With thanks
You had me at baby moose. OMG! 💖
Speculating whether or not my old body could tolerate pack rafting to get out there. 🤣
Top notch video as always. Thanks for sharing.
-Troy & Aimee
The weight is a lot when packrafting but if you are a backpacker you would just be adding a little extra weight. Starting with small approachable trips is a good way tog et your body used to it!
Gosh, how I missed your videos. Beautifully done as always. Happy Birthday Owen 🎉
Another killer film as always! One of the best channels out there for sure!
So much fun. Loved it!🚣♀️💕
Thank you 🤗
Nice 👍
Really enjoyed this, it was a fresh experience and the nature was beautiful. Love seeing you guys doing new stuff. Happy Belated Birthday Owen!
Yeah it's always fun for us to mix it up too. Gives us a new perspective and new ideas of how to capture it!
Awesome footage. All is right with the world when you guys post a new video.
Wow Wow Wow you and Owen have taken me on a beautiful journey tonight. I love y’all’s travels, may it never end. Much Love.
Awwww thank you so much!
@@BoundForNowhere Mary Ashley, you are an amazing narrator
Great stuff!!! I love that part of the country.
These pack rafts need to be designed bigger for more expedition luggage
Another awesome video. Beautiful story telling and amazing scenery!
If this is a series Wow. Can’t wait to see more. 😊❤
It is a one off sadly but more packrafting is coming in the series!
@@BoundForNowhere I don’t understand. That was the only one but more are coming soon in another adventure?
I saw the blog. Ok I bet it. Still exciting 😊
First, happy belated birthday to Owen. Second, man am I jealous. That looked like a cool trip. I'd dig doing that. Thanks for all the hard work on the video. Thinking of you two as the Banff Film festival is coming up. Safe travels.
What an awesome adventure. Love the story telling behind it 🙏🏼
Thank you for this amazing video
I love every shot of this video! 🫶🏼 how incredible and beautiful nature is!!!!!! And the coolest way to enjoy it 🧘🏽♀️🙏🏽 can’t wait for the videos of Peru and Chile!!!!
Lots of love, Coni
as usual excellent quality video skills and beautiful story lines, like like like.
Thank you so much! Happy this is finally out in the world!
The more I see of the Wind River Range and the Green River the further up the bucket list it moves! I've been lucky to hike in places along the Green River in Colorado and Utah but haven't made it to the Wind River Range yet. Excellent filmmaking guys, excited to see you getting to work with REI as well. Can't wait for what's next as its never a bad day when it starts with a Bound for Nowhere video.
Don't go. There are tons of people and piles of poop everywhere. Also lots of savage bears that will kill humans
Awesome as always !! Love hanging out with you guys.
BFN + REI = 🤩‼️
this was lovely! thank you for putting it together
Another excellent video! I look forward to the next one! Cheers, Mate.
It will be out next Sunday!
Aimee’s paddle design is so cool! I think we need to get some pack rafts 😁
Awesome adventure. REI too? So professionally done.
@REI is so good to us
Woooow! This looks incredible. Makes us want to get on a river. Honestly though, it was the baby moose for me!
Yeah being able to bring the rafts along for a larger format trip just makes the packrafts better and better! After this trip we did a week long river trip and it was INCREDIBLE
Love this!!!! ❤
Thank you so much!
Ack! Thank God your not in Seattle! Now i know whats been missing! Seriously missed you.
We missed being here too!
Beautiful..
That alpine lake omg!! I've been on the fence about a pack raft for a year or more. I think I just need to do it! 😬
Great video! 🙂
Yeah you do they are kinda life changing!
#loveyouradvetures 😎
Thank you! We love them too ;)
Another amazing adventure! I loved this video. I could see how giddy you all were haha.
OWWENNN-UH!
Love the video!!! How does one who has Cerebral Palsy and is an outdoor adventurer and educator get REI Co-op to sponsor an adventures to make more awareness of how others like myself are out there? Cheers to the world of adventurers!!!!
This was amazing, I felt like I traveled with you
First 10 seconds in already liked it!
Hooked ya! Means we're doing our job!
Reminds me of Mirror Lake, especially the mosquitoes 🦟
HA the mossies always have a way of triggering memories
Nice work!!
Thanks!
Love your videos and adventures. High quality videos, as always. Hope you always unbuckle your pack belt strap when crossing over / in water.
Great video! Packrafting in the next adventure gear I'm saving up for. Seeing your trip makes me want it even more :)
You should! Packrafting is SO FUN!
Welp looks like I'm getting a packraft now
If you've been looking for a sign... here it is ;)
Thanks for the great adventure film. I hiked there this past summer. It appeared to me that the river would be navigable at least to the 2nd lake. I wonder why you didn't just paddle that far. I was curious what your furthest point on that trail was up that valley below Squaretop Mountain. I also wondered what that other lake was where you fished? A nice addition to your videos would be the coordinates of some of the landmarks, so we could follow your journey on Google Maps.
Awesome adventure glad to see your getting into packrafting it's something every true outdoor adventurer needs to try. Too bad you didn't get more into to packraftijg while in alaska last year. We just got back from alaska and did some awesome packrafting in denali. Probably more of an advanced trip but maybe someday you will do something like that
Good to have you guys back!
Good to be back!
I was in green river Wyoming back in 2019. A guy named joe helped me out.
🔥🔥🔥
“Owweeeeennn” -MAK 😂😂😂
Yeahhhhh not the first time I've said his name that way either ;)
@@BoundForNowhere😂😂😂 “creaming it up”
Stunning! New to your channel and enjoying it :) you guys have a cat right? I’m curious, where was she/he during this trip? I also have a cat and am just looking for inspiration as to how to make life on the road possible with her in the future. Thanks!
Beautiful scenery! Know that range's mosquitos unfortunately well and see they gave y'all quite the welcome too!
Curious if there's a reason none of you used your Ti-Zip's for gear storage? Saw that in the video and was wondering.
Is there a GPX route on this trip? W I understand be awesome if there were routes for these trips. Great videos as always.
Another awesome video! 👏🥳 is it possible to up the volume of the footage & music audio to better match Mac’s narrating voice volume?
I need those salt shaker things. Mine ALWAYS spill
They are MSR Salt and Pepper Shakers... but I put salt in both sides ;)
Great video awesome scenery and definitely a cool adventure! I really want to explore some of the wind river range. What time of the summer was this? Water flow was pretty aggressive. Tightlines and safe travels!
This was early summer in mid June I think. The water levels were high because this was a week after the Yellowstone flooding and this is a part of that greater system. So water was unusually high
@@BoundForNowhere ..thanks for the info!
What month was this filmed in? Very nice!
I’m going to be up paddling this section in the near future. Curious how far up you went before you put in on the river. I know you mentioned 10 miles of hiking, just curious if you knew roughly where you put in.
Beautiful! Where is this location?
missed y'all
We missed being here too! A lot of time and energy goes into these videos which is why it takes us so long to post
it was worth the wait!!!
I absolutely love the Wind River Range. You were not far from the start of the Green River. A couple of years ago I hiked to the start of it after having been to the confluence where it flows into the Colorado. Now I just have to paddle the length of it in my Alpaca Caribou. Part of my adventure in the Wind River Range was having a tree fall on my tent in the middle of the night and having to bivouac in a snow storm with temps in the teens. Here is a link that shows that as well as the start of the Green River czcams.com/video/qf3VpsDV_qo/video.html
I was so hoping to see a 2-stroke dirt bike rip through camp😞
Sadly that will likely never be a sport we pick up. We prefer human powered adventures
@@BoundForNowhere Oh I have no doubt but sadly you missed my meaning…
15:09 no way that is a mountain possibly a giant tree stomp.
Hiking up to and fishing Slide Lake is incredible and beautiful. I really can't believe that y'all would have fished.... Fishbowl spring on the way up. 😢
Kind of like hunting a chained deer.
Do you own your rafts? Is there a place in Pinedale etc. that rent them?
I'm not sure if there is a place to rent because these are our own rafts! However I do know that if you wanted to try one, there is plenty of places to rent rafts like this!
So is WY the next series? Are you guys planning to go to Yellowstone or grand Teton?
It is not ;) This is just a one off. You will know when we're leading up to sharing a new series ;)
Whoo, first!
Yayyy!
Yeah, not many fish in clear lake..
