  • Catalaphyllia jardinei a.k.a. the elegance coral holds a special place in my heart. Way back when I first started the hobby, the elegance was one of the corals that immediately grabbed my attention and became an aspirational piece that I had to have.

    Another great video. I have never kept an elegance coral, but find them to be extremely beautiful. I am primarily an SPS coral keeper. I feel some nostalgia for the ORA Red Planet and Pearlberry. I know GSP is invasive, but I have always been a fan of using it in "island form".

    I'm surprised to hear you have had problems fragging Catalaphyllia, touch wood I've never lost a single one even when cutting up a large colony into many smaller frags so always considered them one of the best LPS to chop up. I had one colony years ago that was a prolific grower, I used to feed heavily & then frag every 6 to 12 weeks, I wish I'd kept it!

    Nice vid! An old saltwater guy told me some yrs ago you can see the dif.between an indo or aussie cata bc indos are more vibrant/more color types/dif patterns and the aussie ones are "only" exist at "one" color type and most of the time stripe pattern with that blue/green hint and aussie ones are "easier to cut and heal up, but im not sure if that is a myth or not.

    Hello I'm from Brazil, here the elegance corals available to buy are all cut. I had the opportunity to have 1 whole but the cut ones die in 2 or 3 months, the only apparent reason is the disease ecs anyway it's my favorite coral but I can't keep it like other aquarists to this day I don't know a single one that has an elegance a more than 1 year

    The coloration reminds me of Duncan Corals. My problem is that I absolutely love snails in my tank and tend to lean towards snails rather than crabs. Every crab I have owned causes more damage than good and that is with the ones that they call "reef safe"......

    I’ve had my elegance coral for quite some time now. About 3 weeks ago, I got a bigger tank. Today after coming back from vacation I noticed it had a discolored spot which appears to have a new mouth in the middle. Is this how a new mouth looks or is mine sick?

  • @jimelliott33
    @jimelliott33 Před rokem

    Than, hi I would really appreciate your input, in two of my tanks I have had issues with two elegance corals despite feeding small pieces of raw prawn maintaining rigid parameters and the recommended lighting, both started off fine (Aussie Elegance) both tanks had leather corals in, I’m starting to think that the toxins from the leathers have some detriment to elegance corals, have you had any dealing with this situation?

    Hi. Your videos are great. Can’t get enough and have informed most of my coral decisions. My elegance is struggling though-please help! It thrived for 3 months but in the last week or so has Shriveled up a bit. Still nice bright color but tentacles don’t extend. I don’t know if it’s Australian or not. I don’t see any cotton build up
    . I have a 92g-2 XR 15 and an LED strip lite. All other corals doing well. Should I move it to low lite? Maybe take it out and dip it in iodine?

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  Před 2 lety

      Tough to say. Something in the tank could be bothering it but could also be an infection of some kind. A dip in an anti-infective may help.

    Hello from Berlin, Germany. I really preciate your videos and your presentation! Thanks. I have a problem with an elegant coral. It was doing fine but then I noticed that it had "lost its footing" on one side of its base. I don't know why- my flow is very moderate Another Elegant Coral neighbours has has no problems. Eventually, the coral lost its footing completely and started moving arounf the tanke with the water flow. This happened about 2 weeks ago. The corals evtually settles down at some place but moves again later as the flow changes. The coral seems completely healthy- same size and colour. Any chance it wil create a new base? Thanks for any info! Lorenzo Jordan
