- Here is the sign on of WTXF, Channel 29 in Philadelphia from early 1988. This is shortly after Channel 29 was sold by Taft Broadcasting to TVX Broadcast Group, and its calls were changed from WTAF-TV to WTXF. The station is now a Fox owned and operated station, but in 1988 it was merely an affiliate and the Fox presence was minimal. Recorded over the air from Hazlet, NJ (Monmouth County).
Nice!, veteran stadium, the spectrum, and JFK stadium all in one shot , memories
Thank you for this….grew up in south Jersey and was around ten years old at this time, I remember the station well!
TVX officially took over Channel 29 (and the Taft indies) on April 9, 1987 - just days after the launch of Fox primetime. It was supposed to close by April 2, but there were some delays related to financing - a preview of the financial woes TVX would have post-acquisition. Interestingly, the call change was supposed to take place at deal close (similar to how Channel 5 in NYC changed calls the day of Fox’s takeover), but it was decided to delay the change 30 days to allow for promotion. As it turns out, TVX ran channel 29 with the WTAF calls for over a year.
Major cool. Im infatuated with old stuff!!! Thnx for the upload!:)
The Vet, the Spectrum and JFK Stadium, all are gone now..
"Philadelphia rocks in 1988 you go wtxf-tv fox-29 i ❤️ philadelphia & all of the delaware-valley". 🇺🇸🦊📺🎤🎥.
I love how it cuts to a flyers game
Back when all Fox stations were still indies and Fox was just a syndication service.
TVX was sold to Paramount and WTXF was owned by them until Fox got WTXF and it became an O&O station of Fox.
The change from WTAF to WTXF took place June 1, 1988; so this is from late 1988, actually.
WTAF (TAFT Broadcasting) became WTXF (TVX Broadcasting), then PHL 17 became a TAFT Station, before becoming WB17 and later, MyPHL17.
"5 million watts amazing all that power can light-up the city of wilkes-barre luzerne-county northeastern & central pennsylvania on a friday-night" 🇺🇸🦊📺🎤🎥.
TVX was still in debt when they bought the Taft stations WDCA, WTXF, and KTXH. In 1991 Paramount bought TVX and became PSG.
