Hard to believe one can get all this valuable information for free. On a recent trip to Spain and Portugal he was our go to guy for just about everything we did. Never a disappointment.
Delighted to hear that, Arjay!
As a Portuguese from Lisbon, all of this is so accurate! Thank you for informing people on actual valuable information when visiting the city! I hope everyone who goes enjoys it!!!
Muito obrigado pelas suas palavras! We do also hope people enjoy Lisbon as much as we do! Abraço!
I like the fact he talks slowly so we can easily understand him as he has an accent.
I love his videos.
Great to hear that. Don't forget to activate the subtitles, we edit every single one of them manually.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Manually?. You are true CZcamsrs and a true couple. Greetings from Kenya
@@Auoroseme thank you, dear. CZcams generates automatic subtitles, but they contain so many errors that we edit them from start to finish. Takes time but we feel it's worth the effort. Greetings from Zaragoza!
Wonderful video as always. Thanks.
Thank you, Susan!
Thank you for very useful information 😊
Don't mention it!
excellent! Thank you for your tips and help.
Our pleasure!

Great to hear that, have a great trip!
Thanks for the video! Heading there next week. A very short 3-4 days then on to Porto for 3-4 days also. Can’t wait.
Have a great trip!
Thank you very much for all the valuable and precisely provided information
Great to hear that, Armin!
I immediately subscribed to your amazing channel… planning of Lisbon in March .. so much valuable information… bravo 👏
Great to hear that, be very welcome to the channel!
Honestly one of the best videos about Portugal on CZcams!!!!
Thank you, Oxana.
Wish we had seen this before our first trip! Will utilize the info on our next trip for sure!😊
Never too late!
Thanks a lot Sir your info is very useful
👏👏👏
I really appreciate all this great information! It will help make our upcoming Lisbon trip much more enjoyable!❤
Great to hear that, Kim!
I’ve just been in Lisbon and I would like to say a big big thank you for all your videos about it, they were the most useful I’ve seen and helped me a lot to plan a visit to the city. (Thanks to them I made only few of the mistakes listed in this video 😂)
Thank you again ❤
Great to hear you had a great trip to Lisbon, Francesca!
Great info Tony! I’m planning a trip this fall and your videos are my favourite so far. No crap and annoying people just great info❤
Great to hear that! Yes, the videos on our channel are definitely not about ourselves but rather the destinations we talk about.
Just came back from Lisbon. The Bolt pickup point at the Airport is now at car park 2. We took a Uber instead. As always we used many of your videos for reference. The cod fish cake at Bonjardim was excellent as well as the peri peri chicken. As always thank you for your extremely useful videos. Maybe your lovely wife can give some commentary?😀
Thanks for the update on the Bolt pickup point, Shane. Great to hear our tips were helpful. Cecilia might struggle a bit with her English, that's why we stick to me doing the talking part. All the best!
I am currently living in Taiwan and enjoying your program very much. I will travel to Spain and Portugal from October to November. Your program has given me a lots of valuable informations, thank you very much.
In addition to introducing Spain and Portugal, I hope that you and your wife are able to visit beautiful island of Taiwan. I will do my very best to be your tour guide
That's very kind of you!
Great advice, when In Portugal last year we did follow most of these tips and I agree Manteigaria has a real good pasteis.
Thanks Dave, glad to know you also like Manteigaria!
Hi Tony i am going again in 2 weeks and meeting a friend who lives there, great advice again muchas gracias.
Great to hear that, have a superb trip!
Thanks, your advice and links always come in handy. We have used them many times while traveling in Spain and Portugal. We want to visit Lisbon in February. We will follow your advice and information again.Lucie, Czech Republic.❤
Great to hear that, Lucie, a big hug for 🇨🇿 from Zaragoza, Spain.
Hi Tony. I listened to many of your Spanish videos before going to Spain last year. I don't know much Spanish, but I learned a bit more, and I found your whole approach enjoyable and informative. So I was delighted to run across this as I gather information on Portugal.
Hello, be welcome to this channel too!
Thank you for your video(s), which I'm going to watch all. I'll be in Lisbon for a congress and added three days for sight seeing, so tipps to make the most of it are very appreciated. I'm aware this usn't much time but I don't feel the need to visit in everything. I'll most likely visit one or two sights and spend the rest of the day sitting in a beautiful cafe taking the atmosphere in.
Sounds like the right strategy. Given that you won't have time for everything, take things easy.
Great info!
Thank you!
Tony..you are amazing with these videos. Going to LISBON in February and have been watching all your videos. It is saving me time right now in preparing and making is less stressful now that i know this information ..where to go and all the "need to know" information. Thank you for taking the time to do this all.

as usual, I always watch video guides few days after I visited a place 🙃
Excellent, hope you'll have a great stay in Lisbon!
Too bad I only have 3 1/2 days, but very excited to visit, thanks for this video❤
Hope you'll have a great time anyway.
Love the Public Transport video, but the thing I struggle with that you didn't address is trying ti figure out which side of the Metro platform I need to be on for the direction I want to go and then which exit to take out of the station. For instance, the end of the red line will let you out in a mall when you expect to get out on a corner a couple from the museum's. Looking forward to my 3rd trip to Lisbon soon and hoping I can figure it out this time!
You need to study the route you want to take beforehand. Once you know the direction you are traveling towards, look for the signs indicating the side of the platform you should take.
Super recomendo
👍👍👍
Congratulations for all the useful content! At the moment I am planning my first trip to Portugal and your videos helped me a lot.
I have a question regarding the use of credit/debit cards in Lisbon and Porto - is it possible to pay by card everywhere or there are a lot of places that accept only cash?
Thank you, Вержиния. Most places accept payment by card but there are still a handful who don't. Just last week we came across a restaurant that didn't accept cards, just cash. All the best.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you! I wish you wonderful trips ahead! :)
Good evening, thanks for video, Would you be so kind mention some comfortable but cheap hotel or place where I can stay during my trip yo Lisbon❤
Hi, check here: czcams.com/video/R0gCgBUnvgM/video.html
Hello Tony, if we want to take the Elevador de Santa Justa down on the Chiado Baixa direction, where is the starting point of the iron pedway? Thank you.
Hi Ralph, it's very near the back of the Convento do Carmo. See the exact location here: goo.gl/maps/wW9LZ3GGEmWQD5dc8
Great video, Tony! Very informative. QUESTION: Is English widely used in Portugal? Would it be rude to just start talking to someone in English or is that expected?
Hi Jon, in large cities, specially among under 40s, yes, widely used. Saying hi in Portuguese goes a long way.
Thank you for the very helpful and practical videos. We are senior adults coming in mid May and staying at Avenida Palace. Do you recommend our taking a tuk tuk instead of the Tram 28 but basically the same route? What would be the fair price? Thank you
Hi Thomas, we find tuk tuks in Lisbon to be a real plague, there are out of control and they will rip you off. From your hotel you have many transport options at your disposal, see czcams.com/video/tI0u1HtMccA/video.html
Hello Tony. We've been watching your Lisbon videos in preparation for our first visit to Portugal this Christmas. They are so well made and informative. Thank you! I've been trying to find a good portuguese restaurant open on the 25th December near the Praca de Figueira where our hotel is located. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks again and our compliments on your English!
Hello, I'm sorry we won't be of much help with your query. Christmas Day opening times are a bit of an unpredictable issue. If you arrive in Lisbon a few days earlier, why don't you try asking around and making your booking on the spot? Have a lovely time in Lisbon!
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Hello Tony. We'll ask at our hotel when we arrive. Thank you again for all of your great videos! 👍
thank you. finally someone tells the truth about the timeout market. i have been there once to eat like in 2015 and only because a friend of my girlfriend was here on vacations and she wanted to go there. besides that, only to get pasteis de nata or a ginjinha, since sometimes the timeout market was on my way home. before time out bought the place, i had been to mercado da ribeira like two times - on a university dinner, and on a university party. but the market was closed at night, only with one restaurant open and the possibility of making parties there. so i remember perfectly to arrive at like 8 at night with the market closed, no lights and only an open corridor and a stairs to the restaurant.
jesus in those days never i believed how many people would flock into it. but anyway i dont know anyone who goes there now, and its hard to find friends who have been there. too crowded, too noisy, too expensive and you are not even comfortable to eat. cais do sodre now a days is a place to avoid, except at night. there is still a cafe that sells beer for like 1.20 euros and has cheap meals in front of the square, but im sure it will close eventually for a fancy brunch place or another mexican/peruvian restaurant. but yeah i understand why mercado da ribeira is a hit with its new name, but its almost like eating at a fancy airport with more refined portuguese food.
Obrigado, João! Every week I see a new video on where to eat in Lisbon and, inevitably, the Time Out Market is one of the choices (a bit like the Boquería en Barcelona). I cannot understand it either. Overpriced food in an overcrowded place.
Music 🎵🎶 is so loudly 😮
Great Video. I have a couple of questions. How long does it take Bus 737 to reach the castle wall? And how often does 737 run? I pre-purchased tickets for Pena Palace, Moorsish Castle and the National Palace of Sintra. Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon. I leave on my travels in February.
Hi, David, bus 737 should take anything between 15 minutes and 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Don't miss our video on Sintra here czcams.com/video/ao-T6ap8HvU/video.html All the best to you!
Ola Tony. I love your videos. Can you tell me where the cruise ships usually dock in Lisbon? We are coming in November & will be staying extra days, Doing my research on where to stay. Thanks so much!
Hi Michell, have a look at this video czcams.com/video/A-1ouCI6K2I/video.html All the best to you!
Thank you Tony!@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
I am heading to Lisbon for World Youth Day. I am looking forward to using the information in your videos to help me experience Lisbon to the fullest. Any new advice about Lisbon with more than 600,000 other pilgrims coming to the city from all over the world? 🙂
No specific advice, Lisbon during WYD is a completely different city. Expect queues and delays everywhere. Be patient.
There will be a lot of security during that time. Just avoid the area of PARQUE DAS NAÇÕES from end of July to first week of August. That's where all crowds will be.
Hi Tony, we will be in Portugal for 3 weeks in March 2024.
How early do we need to reserve dinning reservations and entry tickets to popular tourist sights?
We love your videos, they so ease travel to new city/country.
Hi Jack, restaurant reservations, when you feel they are needed, can be done one or two days in advance. Pre-booking access to tourist attractions, with the exception of the Castle, is not essential. If you use the Lisboa Card you don't even need to queue at the ticket office, see more details here czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html
Your videos are outstanding. I value them a lot. I have a side question Is it possible to hire a BOLT or Uber to go to Cascais for a couple of hours then hire one to return to SINTRA? After visiting the castles I thought about a trip to Cascais to see Boca de Inferno. Is it worth going to for a short hike? Thank you for any information you're able to provide. I leave on my trip to Portugal in February
Thank you again, David. You should be able to hire a Bolt/Uber, yes. We haven't been to Boca do Inferno so can't answer your question on it. Be aware you'll need the entire day in Sintra, not a minute to spare!
Hi Tony, thanks you so much for the very informative video. Love them and watch them over and over again to get the details. Me and my husband will be going to Portugual next week for the first time, and I followed your very clear and detail advices to bought our tickets for the Comboios to Porto and the Lisboa Card. May I ask if you could suggest a safe website to buy ticket for Castelio de Sao Jorge before our trip? Many thanks.
Hello Anna, buy your tickets for the castle here: castelodesaojorge.pt All the best!
Great tips thank you. Is there a tourist card that you can buy that is worth it for entrance into several places?
@@judyduggan773 there is one indeed, see the details on this video czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html
good evening, my family and I are visiting for a day in June. Could you recommend a few local restaurants that we could try and can the Lisbon card be bought at the Metro?...thank you
See our video on food in Lisbon czcams.com/video/pbWaiVTx088/video.html and our video on the Lisbon Card czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html
I just came back from eight days in Lisbon. Very crowded in April 2023. Bus drivers and tram operators are not happy about tourists. I use a cane and often I could not make it to a seat before they took off and I stumbled to grab a pole so I wouldn’t fall. Being a senior I got discounts on many museums. Buy the tourist transportation card it makes life a lot easier.
So many tourist destinations in the Iberian Peninsula are suffering from tourist overcrowding this year!
Uff. I wonder how it's going to be end of September, when I get there...
But thanks very much for this video. I just disvovered it. It is so much more useful than the usual crap put up by tourists in their twenties with no travel expegience who just regurgitating tourist guides. Well done!
@@berits.2346 thanks a lot, Berit. Summer 2023 has been hell in most European destinations, many more tourists than ever. It remains to be seen what September will be like.
Hi, due to bad knees, I am unable to walk far without resting. My question is, can I use the trams to get around the main attraction areas? I note the 28 tram is often full, does this also apply to other routes? Thanks
Hi, access to trams for someone with mobility issues is only ok on line 15 (see the details on this video czcams.com/video/tI0u1HtMccA/video.html ). The other lines use the old trams which make it quite difficult to board and disembark, on top of being often jam packed.
Is Portuguese water from tab in hotels good for drink ?
With kind regards
Perfectly safe. Have a nice trip!
On the subject of Couvert, does the restaurant charge per person, per table or per order that was brought out? thank you in advance.
Couvert is usually charged per person.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you.
We will travel from Porto to Lisbon on 28/12 and plan to do it by train. May I know the best website or the official website to use to buy the train tickets? Also which train station is close to the city of Lisbon? Thanks.
See the info you are looking for on this video: czcams.com/video/nJby4U8I55k/video.html
Can you help me with the information as to where I can book Metropol walkway ticket at sunset.
Basically on line for October
We've never heard of any such place in the city.
❤
👍
I have a question, that I’m finding it hard to get an answer to. I arrived in Spain today from Australia, and will soon be travelling to Porto, Ericeira and Lisbon. I can’t find the best way for me to travel from Porto to Ericeira. I have read that I should get a train to Lisbon, then a bus back to Ericeira, but the bus company selling tickets says that the trip will take 2 hours from Alison to Ericeira, though I was under the impression it should only take about 30 minutes. I really do t know how im going to make this work??
Bus from Porto to Lisbon. Then bus from Lisbon's Campo Grande coach station to Ericeira, a trip lasting 1 hour 10 minutes.
We will spend 4 full days in Lisbon before continuing to Porto. I know it's not nearly enough to see everything so we need to prioritize what attractions we go to. What would you recommend for 4 days? Should we get the Lisbon card for 72 hours?
You can see here our favorite attractions in Lisbon czcams.com/video/GSMVJc6cNhI/video.html and here our positive experience with the Lisbon Card czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html
Thanks!
Im arriving @ lisbon airport and taking the express train directly to Porto first. Do you recommend buying the express train ticket in advance or when I get to the train station?
If you buy the train tickets at the station you will pay the most expensive fare (if you don't care about saving money, that's ok), and you risk not finding seats for the train you want to take. See czcams.com/video/nJby4U8I55k/video.html
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal I am flying in around 11 am to Lisbon.. how much time should I space out my train departure time?
We would leave a minimum of three hours.
Hi , is Lisbon Cards can use for major attraction entrance and all transports ?
You will find an answer to that question and many others on our video on the Lisbon Card here czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html
Can you tell me is there direct train from Spain to Portugal?
Only from Vigo to Porto.
Is there a place called Cas Cas close to Lisbon?
Not that we know of. There is Cascais.
I will be in Portugal for a month is there a train pass I can buy to travel with the country
Check this one out: www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/train-times/Prices/national-train-pass
Hi guys, just checked out your very helpful video. Can you please provide me the name of the card for 6.60 euros that allows travel on transport for 24 hours that you mentioned. Thank you!
Hi, it is all explained on this video: czcams.com/video/tI0u1HtMccA/video.html
How warm is the weather in Lisbon in February?
We can no longer say what weather will be like in the future, weather patterns have become truly unpredictable. You can check the official weather forecast here www.ipma.pt/en/otempo/prev.localidade.hora/index.jsp#Lisboa&Lisboa
Where to get a lisboa card and what is its price? Thank you !
See all the details on this video: czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html
Whats the weather like in october?
You'll have to wait till a few days before the date to have an idea of what the weather will be like.
I had great days the first two weeks and rain the last two weeks in 2022
What is the preferred payment in the Lisbon? Credit cards or cash?
Cards are gaining terrain, but both forms are used.
Literaly wouldn't spend more than 3 days in Lisbon. Only the Quinta de Regaleira in SIntra is worth the visit, the Belem tower is not worth the tour and the rest you can see/do/visit in a day and a half. Get yourself to Porto.
I think Lisboa Card is not worth 23 euro, unless you are going to see a lot of museums in 1 day. So for most people it is better not to buy it.
On this video we show the substantial savings that can be had from the Lisboa Card czcams.com/video/3ChNxwMCIhM/video.html In our experience, money well spent.
About point number 13, law indicates that if you did not ask for starters, even if you eat them you don't have to pay.
The waiter must ask you when he places the starters if you want them. If he didn't... then you don't pay! Call police if necessary. Usually the restaurant wants to avoid police problems and removes the starters from the bill.
It's about time that restaurants STOP using this scam to charge more.
Thank you for the information! Confronting the restaurant staff and calling the police is not always an easy option, so for those unwilling to go that route, the best advice is not to touch the couvert.
Lisbon was great! Was there a little over a week ago. Tap Portugal airline is a disaster. Don't fly Tap
Thanks Chris.
Why disaster
😆 Americans will for sure eat the “free” bread and then get mad when they learn they have to pay. This is a good video, I knew I’d mess up somewhere when I go there.
Thank you!
