BIG FAT THANK YOU 😘

I really enjoyed this video, except that it made me a bit sad at how much of Lisbon we missed on our visit. We are definitely going back. We stayed in an Air B&B in the Baixa area that was amazing, spacious and affordable. The area was indeed very crowded and touristy, but I couldn't complain as I was one of them. Oddly, a lot of the restaurants had the exact same menu, but regardless, the food was delicious. We spent one night up at Luso to hear fado. That was the best night there. We then traveled to Porto for a short stay, and on our return to Lisbon before heading back to the states, we spent our final night at Solar do Castelo, which was amazing.
Hello Peter, Lisbon is truly fascinating. Wait till you see our top 20 video of Lisbon (coming in a month's time). We have just spent two weeks in the city and run out of time to cover all the places and experiences we wanted to talk about. We will shortly be spending nearly a week in Porto as well. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. All the best!
Thanks
Great

Thank you for this info this is great! We are staying at the Marriott I think it's in the financial district. Thoughts? I stayed in Rossio before and loved it. My friends coming with me are 1st timers.. thank you 😊
Hi Suzanne, the Marriott is in the end of nowhere, not good for a tourist visit to Lisbon. But if you are a small group, make the most of ridesharing services in Lisbon (quite affordable), to get out and back to the hotel.
Very helpful for me. It will be my first visit to Lisbon when I come in October. I am looking for an area away from the nightlife so that I can sleep at night and not be disturbed so I am thinking more of the final four areas you mentioned that are further away but easily accessible by metro. I am hoping I can find something in my budget which is not too high.
For as long as you avoid Bairro Alto you should be fine.
Hello Tony, mt wife and I are planning a trip in December to Lisbon, Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza and on to Barcelona. From your point of view is auto carro or bus an economical option? Or byTrain? Not sure is too cold? We have time and not in a rush Thank You. We love your videos they are very informative!
Both this video and your Barcelona video are very helpful and informative. Thank you for both. I'm looking at 1869 Príncipe Real House for our first trip to Lisbon. Any thoughts on this choice?
Comfortable rooms, we talk about the area on the video. You will need to take the transport to go places, but the area is nice and trendy.
Wonderful video! I'm binge watching all of your Portugal and Madrid videos for an upcoming trip. Do you have any feedback on how an apartment in the area just south of Jardim da Cerca da Graça, and north of Castelo de S Jorge would serve for a family spending 3 weeks during a first trip to Lisbon?
Thank you, it is a bit difficult to assess whole areas, much easier to comment on a specific address. That part of Lisbon is in the side of a hill, so depending on the specific location access might demand some walking uphill.
Hi. Great video! Highly informative. I have reservations at Olissippo Castelo near Castelo de São Jorge. The walk from the Martim Moniz metro station seems reasonable and I am traveling light. Thoughts about the hotel and getting around in the area? Thank you!
Hi Kevin, there's quite a steep walk from Martin Moniz station, but if you are up to it, then go ahead by all means. Beautiful location but in terms of transportation logistics probably not the best, as getting in and out of Alfama takes time.
Tony, I'm gonna hide out in the kitchen of Pasteis De Belem for my visit. How many tarts do you think I can eat before they find me? Your videos are superb! Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us tourists! - Cio
Thanks Michell, if you hide during the night you'll be able to eat quite a few dozen pastéis. 😀
Hi Tony. Thanks for the nice video. We’re going in October for the first to Lisbon. It’s my birthday weekend and I’m very excited 🎉🍷😍 We’re staying at the Lisboa Carmo Hotel. What do you think about this hotel? Kinds regard🤗
Hi Jale, beautiful hotel on a very fine location, we're sure you'll love it!
All your Spain and Portugal videios are graet and very helpful. Thanks for sharing 🙏. Our AirBnb shows rough location as "R. dos Lagares" of Lisbon which is in between Castelo de S. Jorge and the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte and this area was not covered in your video not sure if this is a safe neigbourhood for stay.
That address is at the foot of a hill. Should be safe. Transport options are limited as the metro doesn't reach the region. But there are trams.
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks a lot for your feedback
love your channel, what is your opinion on vip picoas hotel and area?
Hi, we've stayed in the region a couple of times. It's a residential neighborhood with good transport connections, not far from Marqués de Pombal. The hotel has very good ratings.
Thanks, you have done a great job with all you Lisbon videos 👏👏. Question - we are arriving on 10/26 for 4 days. We are staying at the Corinthia Lisbon hotel. What is your opinion as far as access to the city center, public transportation, etc……………..thanks
Hi Doug, it's a large good hotel located a bit far from the centre, in a residential area with other hotels nearby. There is a metro station not far from the hotel which solves the problem of moving around. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the centre of town but from what we've read, depending on the date of the year, it can fill up quickly.
Another great video. Thank you. I'm arriving in Lisbon in March but my flight lands after 7pm so I need to stay the night before heading to the Algarve. Could you recommend an area in Lisbon that is easy to get from the airport and easy to get to a train station to get to the Algarve?
Patri, do you know the station where you intend to board your train?
Another great video. We are staying at the Hotel Borges Chiado in May. Your thoughts on that hotel? Also there will be 8 of us needing a ride from the airport to that hotel. Looks like the best would be an Uber, right?
Hi, the location is quite strategic, right in the heart of Chiado and in front of a metro station. It is a very busy location, though. The reviews of the hotel are so and so.
great video, my family and I have a 24-hour layover in June and will be staying at Sao Jorge Apartment and Suites, where would you suggest the best places to visit for Portuguese food and what mode of transportation should we use to get around the city... we're hoping to come back and stay longer later but as of right now, this is all the time we have... thank you
In a short visit to Lisbon, you'll go everywhere on foot. But check our video on public transportation czcams.com/video/tI0u1HtMccA/video.html and our video on food in Lisbon czcams.com/video/pbWaiVTx088/video.html
Excellent video, thanks! I will be heading to Lisboa in January. Am torn between staying at Hotel da Baixa or Nicola Rossio, or Metropole. Can you help me decide please? Thank you!!
Hi, three hotels with an excellent location, we would go for either Hotel da Baixa or Nicola Rossio.
Wonderful overview. What is the closest neighborhood to the cruise port?
Thanks! On the map, the closest neighborhood would be Alfama, the lower part of the region is actually quite close the cruise port. The Baixa is quite close too.
Thank you so much for the videos you share. Is there a tourist office that you recommend to provide me with daily excursions to sightseeing in Lisbon and other tourist sites in Portugal. Thanks again Juliette
Thanks Juliette. Tourist offices don't organize excursions. We've just tested this one, will have a video on it soon www.civitatis.com/en/lisbon/obidos-fatima-day-trip/?aid=2167&cmp=YTENG
Hi Tony, do you know if there is night bus from Sete Rios station to Seville? Will be going to see Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon and Seville in May. Thanks Tony, your videos are very helpful for planning our trip.
Apparently Alsa www.alsa.es/ runs a night bus.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks Tony
Hi! Amazing video! I'm traveling to Lisbon for the second time and this time I'll be staying for a month. I found a nice room in an apartment located in Penha de França, Alto de São João. Is that a nice area to stay? I don't mind taking buses or subways. Thanks in advance.
Thank you! For us it's easier to help if we know the exact address, you are referring to a big region. The key is always proximity to public transportation.
Very nice video! For first visiter with family (with 1 year old baby) would Belem be a bad choice? I was planning to stay in hyatt regency Lisbon (with Uber for most places) for 4 nights but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello! We talk about Belém in the video! All the best.
Greeting's Tony
I will be in Lisbon for a conference at the Hyatt Regency Lisbon located in Belem district. We will be arriving from Porto by train and will be in Lisbon for a week with plans to day trip to Sintra, Cascais and possibly Evora. I don't want to stay at the Hyatt since I'd rather find a rental apartment and be more immersed in the community. It would be great to be able to walk places with convenience to bars and shops. Where would you recommend that is convenient for sightseeing, the train station for day trips but where I can get transportation to my conference (it is only for 2 days so I don't mind having to travel)?
Hi Elizabeth, if you stay somewhere around the Baixa or Rossio, you will have direct access to the tram line that will take you to the Hyatt Regency. Plenty of other transport alternatives around for your day trips (Rossio railway station being very close). All the best!
I’m going to Lisbon mid December and booked a room at Gat Rossio and after watching your video it seems like a good choice I did want to stay in Alfama as it’s the oldest area but as you stated I’d be dragging a pretty heavy bag up lots of stairs etc Do you agree with the hotel I picked as I can cancel but the price was really good as well
The location of your hotel is quite good, perfect for tourism in Lisbon.
Thanks for tips Tony! one question, searching through internet, is there really no speed train from lisbon to Madrid? any reco for best way to visit madrid from lisbon?
There is no high-speed train nor train or any other kind. Best way is the plane, by far.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thanks!
Would Independente Bica be a good place for a first time traveler. Is it close enough to Baxia neighborhood? Is Solar dos Poetas on Praca Luis de Camoes better or The 7 Hotel or Euro Stars Baixa. Which one would you choose? Obrigada Tony
If you'd like to be right in the middle of everything, the 7 Hotel or the Euro Stars Baixa provide that location.
Hello, could you please give me your thoughts about this apartment?
Rua da Bela Vista à Graça, checked, 87, Sao Vicente, Lisbon
Thank you for your fantastic explanation!
Hi, we can't obviously comment on the apartment as we don't know it, but the area is fine, although a bit off the centre, you will need transport to come and go on a daily basis. If you are dedicating plenty of time to Lisbon, say a week or more, could be a fine choice if the price was right. All the best.
Hi Tony. Which is better getting a hotel room or an Airbnb? Thanks
Hi Charles, hotel room, always. AirBnb has created havoc for Lisboners.
Hello again Tony, after making several accommodation reservations and then reviewing and cancelling most, I'm down to the final two...its actually a no-brainer given everything you've said in your video....one is in a brilliant location and a beautiful but expensive acco about 4 to 5 mins from Santa Justa, which is obviously perfect, while the second acco is in the Graca neighbourhood. The Graca acco is beautiful and slightly cheaper too. I'm just torn because of the price, but am willing to pay more to be in a better location, especially after a long international flight and for the very first destination of a long trip. What would your thoughts be, especially on Graca?
Hi Monisha, for us to be able to help we need specific addresses. The Santa Justa option sounds good but Graça is a big district.
Hi Tony, the Graca apartment is here... Rua Damasceno Monteiro 42, R/C Direito. Hope this helps.
Hey Tony, had to cancel one apartment by tonight as I was going to be charged, so cancelled the Graca apartment. So I'll be in the midst of all the action now!

Hi tony any particular hotel recommendation in Lisbon.. will visit on oct 1 to 5? Thank you..
Hard to give blank hotel recommendations, but check this one out: www.booking.com/hotel/pt/eurostas-lisboa-baixa.es.html?aid=359492
i wil stay next month near Alameda metro station, hope to see allot in lisbon in 3 day's
Three days is not a lot but hope you'll make the most of your time.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal it give me a reason to go back :-) its my first time in Portugal
Hi Tony, is WIFI widely available in lisbon city center? or would you recommend that we get a pocket wifi/ sim card? thanks
Hi Anna, I wouldn't say it's widely available. Better get a SIM card.
Great video! Thanks so much. Haven't been to Lisbon for some years now and a bit shocked about the price development.. but good for ervybody who depends on tourism, specially after the pandemic years.
Will stay in Lisbon for 2 nights in summer and have currently reserved "Flores Guest House" . Anything you can share about this pace?
Thanks in advance!
Thank you, we talked about prices in general in this video czcams.com/video/t9khWe25Jcw/video.html Only a tiny minority - usually foreign investors, are doing well out the tourism boom. For the vast majority, is misery, as they can no longer afford to rent or buy a home in Lisbon. A total disaster.
Flores Guest House is in Príncipe Real, a trendy neighborhood but with limited transport options.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal unfortunately it‘s a european phenomenon. Investors ruining the housing market . I think (hope) Flores guest house has local owners though.
I liked Principe Real when I was in Lisbon the last time (2018). Let‘s see, what became of it.
Yes, it's happening anywhere where there are tourists. Many Spanish cities are suffering as a result but I think the impact on Lisbon's inhabitants is unparalleled elsewhere in Europe. Have a great trip!
looking to stay in Baixa looking at the 7 hotel or Meraprime gold design hotel what do think. just walk out and be in the city
Both hotels provide the perfect location you are looking for. Just be aware it is tourist central.
We have a late October reservation (cancelable) for an apt just North-East of the Alfama district, 1km North of S.Apolonia subway station. We enjoy walking and taking the subway, but I can't find information about this area, if it is safe and we are first time tourists. Including visits to Porto and Algave we plan to be there for three weeks. Thanks for any info (Dave in California).
Dave, we need a specific address to be able to help.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal thank you, it is on: Rua Fernão de Magalhães.
@@DSC800 the area is fine but you might spend quite a lot of time going places, as the nearest metro station is quite a walk away. There are local buses running nearby. For a first time tourist, we will only advise as long as you don't mind all the time you will invest on a daily basis going everywhere.
What about the location diagonally left of Bairro Alto? Could not fin and official name. My brother and I are going to stay there.
That would be Príncipe Real, we talk about it on the video.
Hi,
I am staying at Janelas Verdes, rua das Janelas Verdes, is this a good choice?
You are in a trendy part of Lisbon, just slightly off the centre but with good transport connections.
I’m staying at hotel Avenida Palace. Is this a good neighbourhood and hotel? Gracias!
It is in the Rossio, absolutely central, perfect location. The hotel is on an avenue with heavy traffic but due to the high standard of the hotel we assume the rooms are quiet. Por nada!
What do you think of staying at the Mercure Lisboa Hotel?
A bit far from the centre in an area of no particular interest with several hotels. Metro nearby.
Do you have any hotel recommendations?
We plan on doing a video with our hotel recommendations, but have none yet.
i will be staying at the lx soho boutique hotel in Avenida Almirante for 4 nights i paid 170 uk pounds for 2 people.what do you think ?
Sounds good.
I have a question about booking an onine ticket to the Pena Palace, Sintra. Can i buy the ticket online while i am on the train en route to Sintra? Or days in advance?
If you are going to buy the ticket online, buy it ahead. If you leave it for the day of travel, you might find there are not tickets left for the time slot of your choice.
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal I appreciate your quick reply and being so helpful!
We will be staying in Turim Iberia hotel this coming June. As we will be arriving late at night using Metro, is it a safe location to stay?
It is a safe location. Depending on the size of your group, a TVDE might not cost much more than the metro. See czcams.com/video/s-3owFj8xpk/video.html
@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal Thank you very much for your swift response.
Can you guide me walking tours companies in Lisbon
That is not a topic we have researched yet.
Wonderful information! Very helpful video. We are hoping the Apartment we chose is a good location for our stay in Spring 2024: GuestReady Laranjeiras Family Home, Rua Engenheiro Fernando 1, Vicente Mendes, 1600-871. A Safe Neighborhood?
Thank you! We've never stayed at that neighborhood, a residential address quite far from the centre of Lisbon.
