- This weekend in the UK all the celebrations are underway to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee which is 70 years of her reign, not 75 as I said at the start! 70 years Your Majesty - sorry!
When the Tate got in touch with me to work on a collaboration for their Instagram feed for these celebrations, Anna and I got into gear and produced the film for the Reel on Instagram - we show it at the end of this video, so stay tuned!
These are not colours I would normally choose, you know how much I love bright colours! But the inspiration I chose, Patrick Heron's painting - Azalea Garden - is made up of such lovely subtle colours. I hope you agree that I got the balance just right?
Anna and I filmed for a couple of days to make these videos. Anna put all the outtakes together for a more hilarious version for my Patrons which will be published over there on Friday 10th June. including the little extra which I didn't include in the finished bunting!
Patrons help keep this channel going - my wonderful sponsors! You can join them here for the price of a posh coffee or a magazine and enjoy weekly, ad free videos ($10)and my monthly Diary ($5) plus the quilting series from last year reposted for the $10 tier.

Kate, I had to chuckle at your reference to the Hobbit when Anna came to sit down. What a great honor for you to be asked to make something from your hands and heart to commemorate the Queen's jubilee celebration.
she is not that much taller than me but if we sit on the wrong height chairs it can look very odd! ha ha!
Kate what did you use to string the bunting together ? Thank you
That is quite an honor for you to be asked to make that. You totally deserve this honor and I know it will be just beautiful! Looking forward to seeing your finished project.
If only the Queen could see some of your pieces!!! Congrats on being noticed by the Tate ! What an honor!!
I belly laughed when you told us about how old your seed was!
Makes me wonder how many of us have a similar stash.
Loved your bunting adventure....thankyou!'
Hi Kate and Anna
What a great idea to make bunting inspired by an artwork😍Hope you've started a trend. They can pop up everywhere and people could guess the painting and artist.😵 I would call it BUNTING BOMBING👏👏
Kate, What an honor to have your talents recognized ! You should be beaming with pride! You're such a talented woman!
I was touched when Anna and John's fabric from their wedding quilt that you made for them - was selected for the bunting. You and Anna working together is a true gift and making lovely memories. Thank you for the inspiration - I've always loved bunting as it makes one feel happy. Looks like something I can tackle. What an honor to be asked to participate in the Jubilee. You are a gem!
Love love the bunting. You have inspired me to make one for my sewing room.
Well done Kate, and Anna. The bunting does look great and am sure Patrick would approve. So well done girls 👍 also loved the sweet Williams on your kitchen table, almost matched Angnes quilt. The jubilee was great and what an honour to a small part in it via the bunting ❤️
The Queen would be more than happy to celebrate with this beautiful bunting Kate. Absolutely stunning x
As the first grandchild on my mother’s side, I inherited a lot of her stuff. I have a million tea cups and saucers. I love them all. I’m thinking displaying them like you have yours, over the sink. Always grateful for your time
Glad I was not the only one with tea cups with no home. I have shoe boxes filled with them. Thrift finds!
Catching notice of the movers and shakers at the Tate is pretty awesome, (but not at all surprising to us here on the LGS). I'm thrilled for you. I think the bunting was a splendid idea, and it turned out beautifully! You and Anna are a great team!
this amazed me too - how amazing that they didn't ask some London Based Youth - but this Grandma from the North of England! so good! xxx
Tate Britain is my favourite Gallery. But the one I visit mostly is The National Gallery. It’s quite close to my childhood family home so I love going there. How wonderful for you Kate. You are quite the artist 💖
I love the National too - and The British Museum - and the V&A - so many amazing collections gathered together in the City - I so rarely visit, but these are all places I try and see when I do xxx
I adore your “homely” kitchen! ❤ The bunting was lovely, such an honor for you AND another tribute to your creativity and the beautiful work you do. Well done to you and Anna.
I'm sooo excited Kate.! I caught you LIVE!! I turned 70 on June 1st, graduated high school in 1970, the QUEEN'S 70th Jubilee and you today 😁. I'm a happy lady. You're great impirer. Thanx! kj
♥️
the first thing i thought of when seeing the artwork - they are the wonderful colors of The Queens beautiful suits she always wears - always solid and bright lovely colors
Kate this is wonderful and such an Honor - congratulations!!!!! xx
Enjoyed it, Kate. Had to give a big smile when I saw the bulletin board with no green showing. Caraway seeds that have lasted more than 25 years! My sister in law loves caraway seeds and hers might have lasted a month if she was careful not to overdue. I am pretty sure that plant by your sewing machine is called a Prayer Plant as its leaves close up and look like a set of prayerful hands 🙏. You and Anna make a good team. Thank you Ladies. It was fun.
“I can’t do five of something when fifty would be better…”
Haha, I love it! I’ve watched a bit off the tv coverage on the 70 th anniversary of the Queen’s reign and quite enjoyed the program. Your Queen is quite remarkable. Congratulations from Idaho 👋🏻. Blessings, TeresaSue
Kate, I can only silently admire your creativity.
What a lovely idea! Love the colours too. Hope the Queen is coming next week for a tea or two and can see this nice bunting 🥳🤣😂🤣🥳‼️
I'll put the kettle on - but I'm not holding my breath!! ha ha! xxx
Such an honour to be included in this project! The bunting is beautiful!
Dear Kate. Can’t sleep so I watch your videos. I am relieved that I am not alone in that I also flit between projects. I have a hexi full size quilt which has been on the go for 40 years or more. I started hand quilting but it’s a big deal that’s been shelved. Other things come up but I am now inspired to get going again. Thanks for your wonderful ideas. Joan from Northants
You must be very thrilled to be making something to celebrate the Queens 70 years on the throne. Looking at the quilt on the design board, now that's a work of art. I think it's just stunning. Lucky granddaughter Agnes.
Congratulations! What an honour, being asked to make a bunting for the Queen.
Fantastic honor to be asked to make a bunting like that. It's awesome too as your creations usually are.
God bless you Kate and God bless Queen Elizabeth II.
I wish I’d seen this masterclass before I made bunting for my granddaughters bedrooms. It seems to me that artists have been forgotten in the Jubilee Pageant. Last time I was at Tate Britain, I met David Hockney setting up his exhibition, so you’re in very good company. What an honour. Congratulations 🎉
It's always exciting to see there's a new video from Kate!!! 👌💕
Thank youl for sharing your creativity with all of us Kate in such a way as you do. Your friendliness, warm, humour, and patience, make us feel oh so welcome to be part of your magical world of colour and fun! We love you!!! 🏠🌲💕🌏
Love! Love! Love! Absolutely beautiful and the Queen will love it too! Thank you for brightening up our day 🌝
I loved the bunting, and what an honour to collaborate with the Tate. It's definitely given me some ideas for a future art-inspired project. Thank you Kate.
So exciting about the Tate, love seeing you and Anna working together with all the fabrics❣️Artists at work🥰
The bunting is awesome- everyone will love it, I do💕💐
"I was invited by The Tate Gallery". Whoop, whoop! Hope you had a fabulous Platinum Jubilee weekend.
it was such a pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed it! xxx
Oh Kate, your bunting is lovely! What a beautiful, colorful tribute to the Queen! Congratulations on your commission from the Tate. No one could be more deserving. You are truly a creative and kind soul!
I loved this video Kate! Your happiness in the creative process shines through. Buntings are so festive and fun. XO
I am going to add to my stash on the off chance that I might be invited by the Metropolitan Museum to make bunting for their next big gala celebration. Congratulations, Kate, and well done to both of you and Anna.I have been glued to the internet watching the Jubilee Celebration every day this week. Just love it!!
Congrats on the invitation from the Tate! I love the inspiration you chose, and the final product is perfection.

What a wonderful honor! ❤️❤️.
How fun is that! Blessings from Oregon to Kate, Anna and the Queen.
Like so many others in the United States I watch all of the queens jubilee and enjoyed it so much. I love the bunting that you made and I especially love your thought process. THEN I get to your kitchen and I’m in love with it. It’s so artistic, so quirky, so colorful, so charming. I want it and I love it!! 💕. I’ve spent the past hour sending your videos off to my quilting friends from church. You make me smile😊
How exciting! An honor. London is fascinating and for an American walking in my ancestors steps it was exciting. Great for such a historic event.
What an honor to have made bunting for the Queen! 💕
What an honor to be asked to participate this way! And now all the artists who designed the fabrics you used are participating along with you. 😁
Love the colour of your walls in your kitchen Kate. Bunting looks great, and can be used again, and again for any occasion to jolly everyone up! Hope to see pictures of your lovely bunting up at the Tate. xxx
Kate and Anna, this was very fun to watch. I love the inspiration painting and your interpretation of it. Bunting is a jolly thing to do for the Jubilee.
Cheers
Beautiful as always, Kate. The simplicity of the shape and all those wonderful fabrics do compliment the painting and elevate everything for the celebration! What an honor. You deserve it. Well done. Thanks for including us as you create. 💚💚💚
Congratulations! A well deserved honor and recognition of your talent. I spent several years sewing for a custom flag company. There is a bit of a learning curve for drafting and sewing bunting and pointed flags but I loved the way they looked. I learned to sew across the point about 1/2" before the tip and trim the seam allowance at an angle to get nice sharp points. As always I love watching you and Anna collaborate on projects. Your eyes sparkle when you are inspired and having fun.
I love your bunting. Thank you for this wonderful video.
Kate, how incredibly lovely, your beautiful creation. Out of the necessity of needing a dressing gown. The colours are spectacular and gently soft and flowing. I'm ever so happy for you..❤🇨🇦
P S ...the wrong side of the fabric is muted and sometimes can be used when the right side is bright colored. And, happy birthday to you.
Nice 💡 idea.
I love the Queen's bunting..beautiful colors.
Hello Kate, I was watching a video today from February in 2020 and you were wondering why you had a spike in your numbers and how people were possibly finding you so I thought I would share your story. Quoting has never been on my radar. However I stayed and minded somebody’s cats in Newcastle recently, that’s Newcastle in Australia, and she had the most magnificent quilt on the bed. This was a house sitting job so I didn’t actually know the people at all but I reached out to them to find out about the quilt. I counted the squares which were about 10,000 1inch squares that I could see were handsewn. Long story short the woman’s mother had made it and a few weeks later I got a note from the door to to say by the way they had been put together by English paper piecing. That’s how I found you. I am loving your videos and learning so much.
Just lovely.
And how exciting being asked to make something to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. ❤️
HiKate, it’s lovely to see you as usual. What an honour! I love the bunting, it is so useful to have a large stash of fabric . I’ve just watched the Jubilee concert. Lovely! Cheers from Melbourne.
Watched every moment of the jubilee here in NJ USA. What a fabulous celebration it was.
Love the bunting. My garden bunting gave it's all last year, so I get to make a new one for this year. I think the Queen and The Tate will be quite pleased with yours. Anyway, they should be. So nice to see you again, Anna. So much fun to dig through the bins of odds and ends fabrics. Oh! The turning of the calendar was great too. Indigo, shelves of treasures and needle in hand. It will be a great month. Happy week to you both.
That is such a great honor. Your bunting is very pretty. Congratulations!
I love the bunting. I am going to make a template and starting cutting few triangles whenever I am cutting any type of fabric. Then I can use it as another "I want to sew but not think" project, like my crumb quilting. Someday I will have a great length of beautiful bunting like yours!
I am neither an artist or sewer but I love the idea that Kate made two sided bunting. It not only looks great from both sides, it also would be less flimsy and hang better. She is so creative and knowledgeable. Good luck with your project.
Great idea. While sewing any project cut a triangle , I have way too many crumb blocks, a new idea!
I love your ideas Kate. Your so blessed to have such a great daughter in law to help. Have a wonderful day today 💕.
Yes I am, she is a treasure! xxx
You two make a great team. The bunting is lovely. Kate, you are beyond cool with all the things you do and the way you do them. I always feel so relaxed and content after watching your videos. Thank you
I love how your bunting turned out. So beautiful!!
Hi Kate.
I love watching your videos.
You are such a lovely lady, and you're so down to earth. My stress levels have gone down since I started watching your channel a few weeks ago. I'm feeling so much better. Thank you.
I'm like you, a jack of all trades, in craft. I love patchwork. I've made numerous quilts, but I've got to route out my one I started years ago.
I love to paint, draw, sew, knit, try my hand at anything really. All my crafts, are not finished. I start one, then my brain is in action thinking of the next project.....even at bedtime.
Keep up the wonderful videos, Kate. Love your pussycats, and Eileen and your hens too. Miss Prudence and Norma. Love you lots. Lyn. Xxxxx
Bunting fit for the Queen!! Love it and she will too!
Kate and Anna lovely choices. My word Kate what a lot of left over bits. Shows how much you love sewing, it is so addictive isn’t it hehe. It’s such a shame when we make things , and there is always bits we can’t use for the garment. Never mind for such things as your doing it enables us to use a few bits up. You look like you were having fun, and I am sure all will be very pleased with the finished item. Thank you for sharing with us.
Oh Kate, what a beautiful bunting! 💓
The caraway seed reference made me laugh. A favourite quip by my late mother you might enjoy: I had just moved to mom’s city and making dinner and working my way around her kitchen.
Me: “ hey mom, this basil looks a little tired. How old is it?”
Mom: “old enough to vote!”
Kate and Anna 😀 I really enjoyed the bunting. The Queens Jubilee turned out great. God Save the Queen. I may live in the USA but I wish that I could live in England.
Such an exciting collab! Love the Tates! Congrats!
What a wonderful, fun, interesting project!
This video was the perfect thing to get me through frying a stack of pancakes, which tends to be a tedious project (though with delicious results).
For bunting the more patterned the fabric is the better ! Used to make bunting with my mother many years ago x
I LOVE your bunting!! It’s so happy and fun.
Kate and Anna the bunting came out beautiful as I knew it would.
Kate, congratulations on being asked to undertake this memorable project. You and Anna did a beautiful job with the fabric colors and combinations.
🥰💕💃🏻🎉Happy Jubilee Kate & Anna thanks for the inspiration. I can’t wait to make some bunting for my studio what a great idea. I might also add my collection of pins to the bunting. Great for every holiday. I definitely have slit of stash! 💃🏻👍
Kate, you and Anna make a great team! The bunting is so cheerful with all those colors well-done ladies!
xoxo's Sandie
Congratulations on your being contacted about your quilt. Thank you for sharing all your quilting. Your so sweet and interesting to listen to. I live in Alabama in the United States. I love your accent.
ANNA BRINGS OUT THE HAPPY IN YOU..YOU SEEM SO HAPPY WHEN YOU TWO DO VIDEOS TOGETHER..JILL XXOO
I am so fortunate to have Anna helping me like she does - she is a treasure! xxx
So beautiful ! Lovely piece of art for a special moment in history !
A friend suggested I watch an episode. Loved the bunting session. What a special honour.
Beautiful, Kate! What an honor. And outtakes of you and Anna -- that would be a jubilee in and of itself!
Love your bunting. Didn’t know what bunting was till I saw the end results. Love every thing you do
The beautiful bunting and your colorful home are a feast for the eyes!
Love your bunting. I made some in the shape of houses
Lovely, Kate. I’ve been watching and enjoying some of the Queen’s Jubilee coverage from the US.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the Queen’s jubilee! I loved watching, and am happy that you have been recognized by the Tate! You and Anna are such a great team 💕
Chain piecing the bunting is soo smart! I wish I'd thought of that a few years back when I made birthday bunting for friends' kids.
Love this. This would be great for a children’s room. ❤️
Congratulations, what an honor. Like your bunting interpretation. I have never tried bunting but now I must and hang in my garden. Great way to use some stach also.
I recently stumbled across one of your videos and really liked it. I subscribed to your channel and I am now in love with your videos, your work, and you!! I haved learned quite a bit and have gotten many ideas for projects. My quilting room is my happy place and a migraine headache is the only thing that keeps me from sewing. I recently had a terrible migraine (aren't they all?!) and I watched several of your videos while nursing my head. Your videos and your lovely voice are very soothing. While watching and nursing my head, I realized that my headache was easing! Thank you so much for your videos, tutorials, and healing voice!! 💖
So lovely and cheerful to see the bunting in your kitchen!
Wow, what an honor Kate. I am from the US and am fasinated by the Queen's Jubilee. I watch it when I can. Lovely. I love your thought process. Anna is so sweet.
Hi Kate and Anna, the bunting is gorgeous and amazingly compliments the picture. Both you and Anna make quite a great team for crafting. Never saw that picture before and I really like it. You make it seem so easy which gives me incentive to have a go at it, when I can fit it in. Thanks for providing the video and taking time out for us followers.
Love it . what a wonderful project. How nice to have been asked by the Tate. Absolutely sure the Queen liked it. You are an inspiration !!
Thanks for the Queen project- I will keep this in mind for my own celebrations, which will not be as publicly auspicious, but precious to us.
Loved it Kate. I make bunting to go all round our garden. I just love it in the garden anytime. Hope you and your family had a lovely Jubilee weekend. ❤
Hello Kate it's always a joy to see your post pop up . Watching from Australia
