This is what Tolkien said about The Last Homely House East of the Sea ........
It is a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep, or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear and sadness.
That’s what I hope my house is for folk

I need a new coat! Will you just look at this FABRIC!
In this video I make a start on two projects, with some fabric kindly given to me by the wonderful Humphries and Begg. I have admired their unusual designs for a long time on Instagram - I bought my Granddaughter Agnes one of their funky playsuits a few years back - so when they offered the chance to make something in their fabric, I was delighted to be chosen. If you’ve watched this channel for a while now, you will know that I am not very confident at making clothes - but I am having a lot of fun learning!
It really is the support from my lovely Patrons that allows me to keep the sofa cushions plump and the plates of cake and pots of tea plentiful on The Lime Green Sofa and so for that I am very grateful! You can join them there for the price of a coffee or a craft magazine and watch the content back to the start of 2019! Look in the feature 'Collections' to find what you are looking for!

A visit from Chris English at The Last Homely House!
zhlédnutí 57KPřed 14 dny
I so enjoyed this visit from Chris English a few weeks ago. It was such a pleasure getting to know him a bit more and learning all about the fascinating ways in which he works with fabric. He is a very individual and creative quilter - I felt so inspired after he had left! As I explain in the video, Anna and I filmed so much, that we have enough to make a couple of videos for my Patrons as well...

Love the colour of coat. Will match the lime green sofa ❤❤❤❤
Hi Kate, inspired by your this video, I have made a cot quilt for my grandson, I am quite pleased with my first attempt. Thank you so much for your videos , very helpful and gave me the confidence to make it.
I’d be too scared to try without a pattern. I really admire those that can just measure and sew. That green is so you, Kate, just missing a little sprinkle of pink. Can’t wait to see how it all goes. No pressure though, we just love watching the processes. Watching from Australia.😊
Totally amazing, all of it!
Hi Kate. Please look on CZcams, there is a lot of videos making papercut Nova. I also just bought the patern. Amongst them a Young woman called Janine, a tale of two coats. A very beautiful patchwork coat which I will try to make later this year. Hope the very best for you
Kate!! I can't wait to see what beautiful creation is coming ❤. Love and hugs everyone 😊. Aren't we lucky that this beautiful angel of quilting brought us all together 🫠😘. Muahhhh and smooch smooch 😘
Kate I have some thoughts for you 1. For your coat; you could really make any custom length you want ,its not a hard adjustment on the pattern. 2. I think the gorgeous Humphries and Begg fabric for your coat would be lovely on the outside as a band on the bottom of the coat ( any size you want ) I'm thinking design wise maybe 6-10 inches. This fabric would also make beautiful cuffs on the sleeves, which you could just add at the end. 3. As you were doing the video I was looking at this plain green fabric you bought for the coat and It looks absolutely beautiful with the fabric pieces you have on the board right now. So that's something to think about for another project. 4. I like this hand embroidery you might be doing on the coat, it will be beautiful, and will show up so nicely on that green fabric. 4. ENJOY take your time and your probably a much better seamstress than you give yourself credit for. 😊❤😊❤
Kate I so love your vase of beautiful sweet William . Hope I am right, that is what my mother called them.I am watching you from Australia at eight thirty pm on Monday night 17 June.❤
Love the colours of the fabrics Kate. Looking forward to watching how you progress. 💚😀
I have never followed any recipe in my live.I am still married already for 42 years. My husband always has to laugh about it, it is a joke in our little family. Love what you are making, you are going to be fine.Always love your video's, never commented, just wanted to let you know that you always make me smile.
Like you Kate I make things for myself and then end up either giving them away or even consigning them to the scrap pile. Good Luck with your make. I have my fingers crossed for you.
Love the green fabric, it will look lovely when it’s finished
That green is just lovely.
I couldn’t help thinking that you have a lovely smile Kate
there are a few sew alongs online for the Nova coat which you may find help as you seem to be a visual learner
Ooh I love Puperita patterns. You'll enjoy this sew Kate. Many of us Aussies use Puperita patterns. The Nova jacket is also very popular. Looking forward to seeing the finished garments.
I love it that you are willing to challenge yourself and allow us to watch. Good luck Kate I think it will be amazing.🧵🪡🧵
Never to old to take on a new challenge Kate, looking forward to following you in the process, as others have mentioned take one step at a time and you'll get there - turtle not the hare- and enjoy the process.
The Nova coat is a popular pattern due to its styling and ease of sewing. A lovely jacket in all sorts of fabric
Gosh Kate you’ve set yourself a challenge! So looking forward to watching progress.
Hello Kate, I've made the Nova coat and jacket 4 times now and it looks complicated but it's not and all makes sense as you put it together. Just enjoy the process if you can, you always seem to 😍 It's just nerve wracking when you make a new design. It's a very roomy design but lovely and snuggly to wear. I use a cross body bag to keep mine closed 😊 If you opened your file in Adobe Acrobat, you could go to the layers tab, select the size you require, or sizes if you're grading between sizes. This makes it so much easier when cutting out. Another bonus of the PDF pattern x
Wonderful. Looking forward to seeing them. The green wool is beautiful and definitely do some hand stitching. A mock up is a must with a new pattern. Time not wasted.
As an fairly experienced sewer, I would urge you to follow the instructions. I know it can be a bit tedious but it really is the way to have a successful garment and your fabric is so beautiful that it would be a shame to waste it for the sake of taking a bit of time. The instructions from Papercut are generally very good (I have just made the Palisade pants and put off making them for a while becaue they looked complicated. However I took it literally one step at a time and they are great) A lot of people have made the Nova coat, so I would suggest you look at their reviews of the pattern regarding sizing etc.
Have you thought about doing the collar and pockets with the lining material?
I do it with cooking all the time not with sewing
Is it a batik?
Love watching your videos. ❤❤❤
Lovely idea the fabrics are gorgeous, just take it one step at a time. Read the instructions fully and take your time, it’s not a race. Above all enjoy the process love and hugs xx
ohhh, dear Kate, years ago I had the same idea of using rough cotton as the lining of a coat. At first glance this coat looked great, but unfortunately it was not wearable with normal clothing. Why is that? The materials slow each other down. There is a reason why the lining is made of smooth silk, so that the materials can swing independently. I hope I can save you from an unpleasant surprise. Best wishes to England from Bavaria
Thank you, so beautiful, so inspiring! ❤👍from Somerset
Yes muslin is a great idea, and I thought, watch your grain lines for the cutting. Also if they don’t tell you where to use lengthwise grain, and where to use crosswise grain, you will have a chance to think that through, and maybe ask a garment-sewing friend. That wool is wonderful. If you are going to do some topstitching, and choosing the buttons, would you like to use a brighter green, (yellow, even to the color of your favorite mustard?) to make the wool look even richer? Looking forward to what you make. 🏄♂️🌱🍀✨
I admire your courage Kate. Good luck. Have a lovely new week 💚
Thank you for sharing your ideas and thoughts with us. I have lately started sewing clothes after a long time of doing patchwork only. My progress is slow but as I am 68 now, I find that I have more time to be patient with things and I appreciate that so very much. I will so much like to see your progress on youtube.
I love the idea of using bits of lining as on pockets and cuffs to show against the green
dear Kate...I think, that this jackets will look very nice........look forward for the results......Blessings and Greetings from Daggy,Kiel,Germany☘☘☘
P.S. I tracked down the episode info since she has 2 channels with numerous videos. It is Sarah Homfray Embroidery VLOG 3, "A Working Holiday to Jaipur."
I wanted to let you know about a fellow UK You Tuber I think you would really enjoy if you don't already know her work. Sarah Homfray went to Jaipur on a working holiday a few years ago and has some amazing footage on India, block printing and an extensive interview with a native textile expert who showed her an amazing array of fabrics. He explained the origins and processes of making them. Sarah was educated at the Royal School of Needlework and has a wide knowledge of textiles as well. 😊
Sounds good. I sew clothes mainly so you are the Queen when it comes to quilts.
Fun - with great fabrics -fun- you will LOVE it!!
Make a "wearable muslin" from a similar fabric that was thrifted. There are lots of CZcams videos on this topic. It is sooooo worth it. You must have TONS of patience. I've been making garments for 60 years and have bought a few patterns to download and tape together and it IS horribly laborious. To me, it' the worst part of sewing a garment. If there's a printed pattern available, I buy it.
Kate, that fabric is lovely! My sewing tip is to be sure you cut out any notches! I didn't understand what they were for and used to ignore them. They help you with how the garment hangs, where to put gathers, etc. in sure you know this!
Impatient…within the exuberance of life!!! Another thing you and I share, Kate! Jackets look cool!!!
I definitely have to order this pattern! My husband had a 1972 Chevy Nova!!!! It is called Nova!!!! The car was a beautiful bright orange......miss him terribly. Would have been married 50 years this October.....high school sweethearts. Love your videos!! :)
GORGEOUS!!!!! I cant wait to see them finished. I must tell you.....I lost my hubby 4 years ago and my mom 2 years ago this July 31st......and I think your videos have saved me many tearful nights!!!! I love hown kind you are...how calm and always in a happy mood. Ive fallen inlove with your family and your beautiful animals! Thank you Kate. Sending much love and happiness! Audrey
I like your work grandma ❤ watching from India
I love your Sweet Williams!!!! Gorgeous colours! Beautiful fabric too lol
Do you know that pdf patterns are on layers, and you can turn off the sizes/layers you don’t want and just print the lines for the size you want.
Can't wait to see Agnes's coat. I love how you challenge yourself to try something new.
You can do it, Kate! Happy reading!
