- Chris English, Joe Cunningham, Alice Caroline, Sarah and Nick from Bernina ...I met all these wonderful people at The Festival of Quilts 2023 and had such interesting conversations.
Chris makes really lively imaginative work. You can find him on Instagram as A Full English.
Joe The Quilter is a musician, artist and thoroughly lovely guy! He has a website, instagram, Patreon and you'll find him on CZcams right here
/ @joethequilter
Alice Caroline has a CZcams channel here / @alicecarolinefabrics
When I met Sarah from the Bernina I was thrilled to find she was from New Zealand! So that is mostly what we talked about of course!
/ @berninainternational
And Nick Ball is the Bernina Long Armer and he has a wonderful instagram! @quiltsfromtheattic
Anna and I arrived at the Festival before the place opened and had the luxury of wandering about with Chris in an almost empty venue. We made more film of Chris and that will be on Patreon soon. My patrons support me to make these videos and are the only sponsors I have! I am grateful to them all! You can check out my Patreon Channel here. Come shopping at the Festival with Chris on September 1st on my Patreon Channel!

The way you interview is very respectful towards the person you're talking to Kate. Thank you for this episode.
thank you - I hope to listen and respect the person - they were all so interesting! xxx
You, my friend, are very interesting & lovely. You do a very good job interviewing. ❤
I think it's lovely that Anna now has the bug, well done
One of the loveliest things about The Festival of Quilts at the NEC is meeting and talking to smashing people from all around the world.
What makes Chris's quilts so precious in my eyes is how unprecious they seem to be. Its like they just happen, the product of a passion of creative working that just needs to unfurl itself and ,'happens' upon the final resulting quilt. I love that.
Thank you so much for taking all of us on the lime green sofa along to the festival of quilts!
Thank you. His genuine excitement for the creative process is very satisfying to watch.
Oh, Kate! I’ve loved being at the show with you and Anna. Thank you soooo much!
What a awesome show to get lost in!
I could watch you and your friends all day😊
I loved this so much. Thank you very, very much. Made me feel I was there in the thick of it with you. It's the best of being a Quilter...our community is fantastic and you are excellent at what you do.
Nowhere Man brought a tear to my eye (in a good way). Thank you Joe Cunningham x
It was one of my favourite moments of the whole few days! xxx
Thanks for sharing Mr. English’s work. I have 2 old quilts that need repair and his bold quilt work has given me courage to tackle it without worry for matching patches.
What a feast for the senses, Kate! Joe’s triptych was amazing as were those Liberty fabrics. Nice, too, seeing Anna on camera. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thank you so much for your videos on the Quilt Festival! So exciting! I laughed a little when you were talking with Joe Cunningham and mentioned the different words in different countries - you were not just at a loss for words, you were outright "gobsmacked"!! Thank you again for sharing so beautifully!
Joe Cunningham, Chris English & Kaffe from last week, what an array of wonderful quilters!! I am a fan of all three and you. So glad you shared them with us.
I've so enjoyed all these interviews and amazing quilts! Thank you so much to the both of you for taking the lime green sofa on this adventure!
I love Chris English's quilts. I like making quilts that way!
Thank you Kate and Anna! So lovely to meet Joe and see Chris again. Quilters are just the nicest people! You are so right about color. I’m sure everyone you met from the lime green sofa was thrilled to meet you. I would have been. Take care and enjoy putting your feet up! 🤗🤗
Loved the tar patches quilt - what a good way to make what is often an eyesore, so fun to look at. His Ukraine piece is outstanding! Really liked this guy. Thanks Kate for taking us along on this adventure .
So much fun! I loved Joe the Quilter's quilts! So inspiring. I've joined his channel. Thanks for taking us along.
Thankyou so much for taking us around the quilt show. What a wonderful array of talent and great personality displayed . It is so nice of you to mention NZ, I am from the Hutt Valley, a quilter, craftmaker, and knitter, so always enjoy seeing what creations are shown and connecting with the people you meet and interview in your videos.
It’s not just a quilt but a piece of art, made with love!
I had a lovely time walking with you (via the Internet) at the quilt show. Thank you!
I love Joe Cunningham's "Ukrainian Trio." Brings tears to my eyes (and, prayers to my heart).
I’m originally from Michigan! Nice to meet you! 🇺🇸🥰💖🌻Patricia 86 😁
me too - it made such an impact on Anna and me both xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse 💚💚💚(the love/hearts have to be green like your sofa)!!!!
I've gone to his page, subscribed, asked him if he'd do a more comprehensive video/upload on the trio.
What l love is the freedom to make a quilt that isn’t perfect, yet is well executed and artful. I have been a quilter for over 30 years and was taught to quilt with tiny stitches and your piecing had to be perfect. Very daunting. But now we can appreciate the point of handmade, and part of the beauty is that it isn’t perfect. Machines make perfect, not humans.
good! break the rules a bit! there room for all styles! xxx
What a fantastic video!! I absolutely loved it. I live in the US and, at my age, I will never get to attend your quilt festival. So you sharing this has given me a glimpse of something I would otherwise never have seen. Thank you so much for sharing all of it with us. It is such a treasure, and I am looking forward to seeing what the two of you do with your new fabric stash!!
Glory days Kate and Anna - I got my internet back and have enjoyed your Quilt Festival Part One and Two. I cannot travel so I appreciate the lime green sofa and everywhere your channel takes me. You are a friend on my screen and if I saw you in person, I'd have to give you a big hug for all the joy you've brought to my Chromebook screen! Thanks again!!
What incredibly passionate and creative people you met. Just loved hearing the stories behind the quilts and the lives interwoven in them. And finally, to ride the train with you through that lush countryside was bliss. I was sad when the video finished! Thanks Kate and Anna 💙🧵🪡
I first watched a video of yours to see what your crumb quilts were like. I have subscribed, and am having so much fun tagging along on all of your creative endeavors. Your smile and enthusiasm are infectious!!
The Black Bird quilts are true masterpieces.
I've powered through your videos from oldest to 9 months ago in the last fortnight so I feel like I live with you!! This episode is brilliant. I love your appreciation for the work of others, your respectful interview technique and your friendly tutoring style in the epp class.
You should be very proud of yourself Kate, you have created a successful business on CZcams plus built a friendly, supportive community. Rock on Kate!
So nice that you have run into "my guy, Joe" and you got to talk to him. Isn't he genuinely such a nice person. Brilliant
Thank you for another brilliant walk round the quilt show. It is inspiring to see what talented folk can do with some colourfull fabric, imagination and time. I really enjoyed the interviews. Thank you Anna for all the filming I hope you enjoyed the quilt show too.
Lovely, Lovely, Lovely ❣️❣️❣️
thank you so much. the interviews were fabulous. particularly Joe Cunningham who I have followed since he quilted with Gwen Marston on Beaver Island in Michigan where they taught hand quilting many years ago. and of course Alice Caroline with beautiful Liberty fabrics.
Wow , thank you for showing us all those wonderful quilts .
Kate and Anna, I think this was my favorite video yet. It was so inspiring with many different people and approaches to quilting. Thank you. The UK Festival of Quilts is now on my bucket list. 🎉😊
Thank you so much! xxx
That’s an interesting observation about the healing power of color. In 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast, my brother and sister-in-law experienced 32 feet of flooding-which wiped out trees and plants and everything was brown. I sent my SIL about 8 pounds of Jelly Bellies, all colors and flavors. She is an artist by trade and she said that though the jelly beans were delicious, what helped her the most was the colors. She so desperately needed relief from the all-brown world. Color and music are the world’s two great healers. Oh, and cats!
I am not a quilter, but I love seeing all of these beautiful creations, and all of your interesting interviews with the quilters there. Thanks for sharing!
Kate looks like a Queen strolling around admiring the quilts. ❤Warms my heart❤❤❤❤
Thank you, thank you, I am a huge fan of Chris English and Joe Cunningham. A few years back I watched a video of Joe quilting with the quilters at Gee Bend, so nice to see him again And always a fan of Liberty fabrics, thank you Kate and Anna
Thank you Anna and Kate for video taping your visit to Birmingham Quilt visit. I was green with envy when you showed all that Liberty fabric.
All these beautiful quilts and designers made me think of a new CZcams quilter. Dave’s Craft Room - is amazing.
What a wonderful video! I've watched both videos and thoroughly enjoyed taking the 'tour' with you. We have a quilt show every 2 years where I live. We are quite proud of it. But, I would love to go to England to see this one. Thank you!
Glad to have seen an update with Chris. I was wondering if he'd have a quilt in this year as well. :)
Great episode! You have such an easy-going interview style. Thanks for introducing us to a few new faces as well as some folks from last year..And of COURSE you got a Beatles song in there!!
that was the icing on the cake! xxx
I remember when Joe Cunningham spoke for my quilt guild years ago. He is a very engaging and funny speaker.
I loved that flying geese quilt with those Batik yellows and oranges!
I met Joe Cunningham too 😃 What a lovely man 👍 and what an amazing quilter 🤩 So glad you have shared his quilts story 👍 And lovely to meet ‘The Full English’ 👍👏👏🇬🇧
I was both surprised & delighted to see Joe, the quilter, Cunningham at the show. Long, long, long time admirer--if I ever come into a ton of money, one of the first things I would buy are a couple of his quilts.
Going with you to a quilt show is exciting. Thanks for taking us.
Thank you so very much for that video. It was truly amazing. What an amazing quilt . Beth
This was like walking through The Museum of Modern Art! Amazingly beautiful, and thoughtful quilts. The quilts for the Ukrainian people are beautiful, but the story brought me to tears. Then the lady who made things for The Lord of the Rings. My daughter recently visited New Zealand, loved it because she loves the books/movies and the beauty. She rode the train up the mountain she was speaking about. Wow, what a small world! She looked into how to relocate to New Zealand, but you have to have a marketable skill. She's an author, published photographer...and I sew lots of things besides quilts, and sell them. 😊❤
You have a natural charm that is so pleasing to watch....thank you for this delightful visit to The Quilt Festival!
ABSOLUTELY fabulous! I have to live vicariously through you until I get my new hip (ugh... renovations on the old woman have started....). What I love is the stories - that we would never hear if you hadn't taken the time to share them. Thank you for that! The train ride home is always special, isn't it? I like trains - they're very soothing and when you're on your way home from any sort of festival, it's that lovely relaxing sound of the train that means you can just sit and unplug for a few hours..... Thank you so much!!!! xxx
You just can't beat going to a show and seeing all the inspiring quilts , seeing the beautiful fabric , feeling it and soaking up that atmosphere, I'm glad I can buy on line as I'm house bound , but if I could I would be back at the shows in a heartbeat, that's why I enjoyed watching you going around the show so much , and listening to the interesting people you got to talk to . Fantastic
Love Chris English’s work. So unique and dynamic!
I love Chris English!
I love his quilting philosophy!
So lovely to watch these videos Kate. You and Anna are such a hoot! I love your channel and as a newbie (mind you my hubby keeps saying once you have made more than 10 quilts you cannot call yourself a newbie) I learn so much. Keep them coming and keep smiling. Love the process.
What a fun fun time. Loved seeing all the different kinds of quilts and people.
The mountains and countrysides were very beautiful too
Enjoy your Home Sweet Home, always good to get back home. 🌞
@Anna, you did a great job taking all the videos. It must have been difficult in crowds or when Kate talks to somebody and then points to quilts. And to Kate: you are so good in chatting with people. They are at ease, but still manage to tell their stories. I am not a quilter (yet), but I thouroughly enjoyed this series.
It's art and I love it. The quilt you displayed is beautiful, from afar it looks something like the heavens.
KATE , I HAVE BEEN QUILTING FOR 3 yrs NOW AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A QUILT SHOW , I LOVE ❤️ THAT I GET TO GO WITH YOU …… THANK YOU
The second quilt shown is amazing! Wow! @ .40 seconds also.
Thank you so much Kate and Anna for taking us along to this show. I love hearing the stories about how the quilts where inspired.
Chris makes such energetic quilts! I love them!
So awesome ❤ very happy to see you, Kate and Anna at the festival. I love all the interviews that you shared. The Liberty Fabric booth was a site to behold. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊🎉
What a fantastic show this looks…I’m so sad I’m going to miss it when I visit in June. I’ll be home again just before it’s on. And how cool that Sarah the Bernina lady is a New Zealander…she still has a kiwi accent. I have a Bernina and I LOVE it, it’s nearly 40 years old now and still going strong. 💕
Thank you Kate and Anna for giving us a piece of this show. I loved the interview with Joe Cunningham and interestingly, the creativity of his Untitled quilt made me cry. I think it was because of the brilliant skill of the quilting plus the sheer fun of imagination gone riot...breath of fresh air really. Cheers from Alberta.
wonderful! I really loved that quilt! xxx
@@thelasthomelyhouse sending love and sunshine back to you and your's Kate.
The ride home on the train was so lovely with the countryside! Wish I wasn’t halfway ‘round the world so I could experience it too. Love to you and Anna.
Thanks Kate, for introducing me to Joe! He’s just BRILLIANT! I’ve subscribed to his CZcams and insta. What a wonderful story!
Totally agree! xxx watch what happens to your IQ!! ha ha!
Thank you ❤❤❤
Seven days ago I discovered your youtubechannel. It was like having a cup of tea with a very nice neighbour. I watched about all the quiltitems this week and got very inspired. You inspire me to use more colours and be more free. So thank you for inviting me on your limegreen sofa to join this homely neighbourhood. Greetings from the Netherlands⚘️
Welcome aboard! xxx
Oh my - I too am speechless. Thank you Kate!
I enjoyed the interview with Joe Cunningham he is very interesting and so talented. I also enjoyed Chris English.
Thanks for taking us along. I just love the quilts. Anna, I am glad you love the craft.🤩🤩😍
Loved Joe Cunningham’s Ukraine Triptych. I remember seeing him as a very young man I think in Quilt magazine when he worked with Gwen Marston. Hope before too long he will be able to have his exhibition in Kiev 🤞

Enjoy your trip to the Quilt Festival and the interviews of the artisits!!!!

Watching this for the 2nd time. I like your interview with Chris but your meeting up with one of my Very Favourite Quilt Artists in the World -- Joe Cunningham -- well! That made me smile all over again. Thank you! ❤
Thank you for sharing ❤
Love the thumbnail photo of you standing looking at the quilt.❤ The quilt is gorgeous, well done Kate!
Lovely time being with you virtually Kate. I would love to run into you at a quilt show. What an adventure that would be. If you ever come across the pond, I will leave California and share a cup-a tea. Thanks again. Felicia
Part 2: your mention of the differences in our two countries’ customs and words by Mr. Cunningham reminded me of a fellow Brit (now new American)I follow whose vlog is called: Lost in the Pond, with Lawrence who now lives in IL and married an American girl. He’s great fun while explains the difference between Americans and Brit’s. Very fun.
Thank you so much for taking the time to film and chat to quilters at the lovely Quilt Exhibition! Interesting interviews and beautiful quilts! Your videos were balanced nicely, particularly interesting in comparison with those that just concentrated on stalls and purchases.
Excellent interviews! Thank you, Kate and Anna!
Thank you for the lovely time, Kate and Anna. So much fun to meet so many wonderful people from all over the world, brought together through a common love….super cool. And, Agnes quilt looked wonderful! I could tell that Kaffe was very impressed with the use of his fabrics. My fellow American, Joe….his quilts were so inspiring..
Oh Kate how wonderful. And I live about an hour from Flint, Michigan. Wow. The FOQ. Is just amazing. I’ve been to a few quilt shows and always a great time. So many wonderful new ideas to make quilts. I would have to live to be 200 to get everything fit in. 😂 thank you so much for sharing this, Kate and Anna. I pray Joe’s studio and home are safe from the hurricane coming in CA. Scary..
I've had to watch this two times as it's SO good! Loved meeting quilters I only know from instagram....thank you so much!
Thanks so much for making these videos. We were able to take a ton of ideas. We love you! Greetings from New York.
Oh, Joe Cunningham! One of the nicest quilters. I loved his visit with the Gees Bend ladies. Thank you for sharing.
Lovely, Absolutely Lovely🙌🙏
So beautiful. I miss buying fabric in person, but I sure get more variety.
Thanks for showing us a bit around Kate and Anna. ❤❤❤
And love to see you met Joe! I'm follow him also for a while. You should watch the one where you can see Kawandi quilting. You will be inspired by the way of quilting and that lady who tells the story about her descovery of Kawandi quilting. I think you would give that a try too!
Can't wait to see what the next quilt project will be! Big hugs from my simply home in the south of the Netherlands
Enjoyed your videos and a quilt festival in the UK. As I am from Pennsylvania USA and will never be able to go. Thanks for sharing your story
So beautiful !!!! Love your green and Chris s
Anyone remember the 1958 book "Mrs. 'Arris Goes to Paris" by American writer Paul Gallico, UK title "Flowers For Mrs Harris"? Seeing Kate wandering through the quilt exhibit somehow brings back memories of the book's delightful character, Mrs. Ada Harris.
Thank you!!! That was a wonderful video!!!!
I met Joe Cummingham in Flint Michigan back in the 80s. Good to see him on your show.
