The Green Roof Supplies arrived! Watch as the layers are installed! #15

- Ant had time to fit the green roof for the cabin this week and, as usual, I got under his feet!
The four layers are
1. The plastic protection for the Cabin Roof
2. The drainage layer
3. The growing medium
4. The sedum plants which are held together with a coir matting.
I got these items from The Green Roof Company thegreenroofcompany.co.uk/pro...
when the sedums arrived and we rolled them out, I was a little suprised by how unhappy they looked, but after a few days they have perked up and are now enjoying being on the roof. I guess I'd look a bit unwell if I'd gone through what they had in transport!

That is the last big job for the Cabin, though there are still a lot of plans for the Garden, so pop on your notifications as I don't post to a schedule, just when I have something to say!

Hello Kate! This is such a super project! I first came across green roofs when I visited Norway over thirty years ago, and fell in love with the whole concept. Ant is such a great neighbour, and it’s a real joy to watch you both working together. Thank you so much for sharing what you do with us.

I love our girl !. So Ant , glad she's got you and John make her dreams feel true! I have some oil lamps from our cottage, i want to create a new one but, love and adore what 67 years of cottageing has taught me! Quilting is an exercise in necessity, i love the quilts from Gee's corner!

What a great project this shed is! You will be warm when it is cold outside , and cool when it is hot! Insulation is great, and the green roof will be amazing! Ant is a wonderful man, and I am glad we got to know him too 😊

It's fantastic that you had the imagination and skills to make such a jewel of a place from a boggy piece of land.
I can imagine next time it rains , you could sit in there with some tea, honey and scones. Snuggle into a quillt and watch the rain drops on the pond!

Kate, Ant. FANTASTIC! My hubby has hands like Ants. We used Merlin while you talked. Your bird song is so fantastic! What a blessing to see and hear your neck of the woods. My hubby is a builder. We harvest our own lumber. He no longer has big projects. We are at the renewing stage. Personally I would like a tree house platform so I can see Denali. A platform for a tent in summer. My builder man is not biting that worm....yet...

I live in South Eastern Oregon, US…we had 4 nights of frost. Our nights are in the mid 40’s to mid 50’s F here this time of year. The day before the first frost it was 86 during the day…normally low to mid 70’s. The weather is crazy! I found an owl pellet in my front yard yesterday. They hunt off the barn but this was right outside my front door. …excited to watch your roof do its thing. 🌈🌈🦋🦋

Here in the Pacific Northwest of the US, we are also having a very dreary end to spring. Tomorrow will be nicer and warmer, but oh, the rain!
At first, I imagined a painted green metal roof when Kate said a 'green roof'. What a nice surprise to see the living roof! Some creeping Jenny with their pretty yellow flowers and snow in summer would be pretty as they cascade over the edge of the roof. And Ant is an amazing helper!
