The Green Roof Supplies arrived! Watch as the layers are installed! #15
Ant had time to fit the green roof for the cabin this week and, as usual, I got under his feet!
The four layers are
1. The plastic protection for the Cabin Roof
2. The drainage layer
3. The growing medium
4. The sedum plants which are held together with a coir matting.
I got these items from The Green Roof Company thegreenroofcompany.co.uk/products/categories/systems/
when the sedums arrived and we rolled them out, I was a little suprised by how unhappy they looked, but after a few days they have perked up and are now enjoying being on the roof. I guess I'd look a bit unwell if I'd gone through what they had in transport!
Do check out Ant's channel - Ant's Country Life - where he shares his day to day life and the work he does. He's very interesting.
That is the last big job for the Cabin, though there are still a lot of plans for the Garden, so pop on your notifications as I don't post to a schedule, just when I have something to say!
Enjoy this episode and I'l see you in the Garden soon!

The CABIN gets some wonderful LARCH CLADDING! #12
zhlédnutí 44KPřed 2 měsíci
The Larch boards have arrived for my cabin. Ant spent a few days making my cabin look absolutely amazing! It was transformed from an ordinary looking building into the most beautiful little place. I use it everyday at first light, I take a cuppa down there and listen to the birds and do a bit of crochet. It's hard to think of a good enough reason to leave! I am grateful to Anthony White for his...

Feeding the BIRDS in The Last Homely Garden #10
zhlédnutí 77KPřed 5 měsíci
There is not much gardening or cabin building going on just now as the ground is frozen and my fingers and toes are too! So it is important to keep the little birds well fed and happy. I feed Sunflower Hearts, Mixed Seed, Cracked Peanuts, Niger Seeds, and that mix I made with Peanut Butter. The visitors include Blue Tit, Goldfinch, Robin, Blackbird and Thrush, Woodpecker, Greenfinch, Long Taile...

Here is an update on my Cabin project, a bit of a disjointed video as I was pretty unwell for most of November so I was unable to film the rapid progress that Ant was making despite the awful weather, rain, cold, wind ..... nothing seems to daunt him. You can find him on Instagram as Ants_countrylife - pop over there and say hi! In this video you can spot the moment when I should have taken to ...

zhlédnutí 37KPřed 7 měsíci
Welcome back to The Last Homely Garden! I've been working with Ant again and my gardening friends Adam and Arran. Ant got some help from Ali, so all my helpers names being with A. What are the chances! I left you last time with a Ant making a little sitting area beside the pond. Ant and I always knew there was going to be a CABIN! Here is the start of that structure, with so much rain holding t...
Kate's Pond Update, how to deal with all the MUD! #7
zhlédnutí 38KPřed 8 měsíci
In the last video (#6) I left the pond filling with water. Water continues to be the feature of this video too as there is so much MUD around the area which makes for very unsafe walking. This was the only long term solution, so watch as Anthony, hindered as usual by me, start to make a wooden walkway around one side of the pond, supervised as always by my goose Eileen. If you missed the video ...

Welcome back to The Last Homely Garden. Here is a little video all about the chutney I made on Sunday. The tomatoes are ripe in the poly tunnel, the herbs are plentiful in my herb bed. I used the outdoor cooker to finish off this delicious sticky chutney and could hardly wait for it to cool before I tried it with some cheese and crackers. I found the recipe on the River Cottage Website here www...
Building a Brick Cooker in my Garden. The food tastes AMAZING! #4

I've finally been able to finish this video! Anthony White, my neighbour and friend built the Brick Cooker a few weeks ago, but the rain here has been relentless, and I have been away for my other channel The Last Homely House so finally, yesterday, I was able to go round the garden pick all the vegetables that were ready and make an amazing plate of food! The potatoes are a variety called Pink...

I'm watching your video I'm not sure you're duck likes people.
Who took the airiel view ?
Brilliant. I was going to say about stairs up to the roof to maintain it but it’s already been said. Ant is so lovely and talented love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing x
Your videos are so calming. Enjoy both your channels ♥️
Absolutely love the top of this cabin from the sky ❤planes flying over will have a beautiful view of it all!!😮❤
Oh Kate.. this is so beautiful 😍 I love every bit of your cabin.. Eileen is such a gem .. i miss my life in the countryside as i had to sell up and move for my kids education.. thanks for sharing.. i look forward to every update of yours .. such amazing inspiration 💖 blessings from Johannesburg South Africa 🇿🇦 😊
😢Ant knows you so well when he said you would fill those gorgeous shelves in no time. When you decide on curtains make sure you use good thermal insulation so they keep out the cold, then you can use the cabin longer into the year x
About the wood quilt - you might be interested to read about an artist here in the US - Laura Petrovich-Cheney - who has been making these for a while. I believe that she started with wood from her parent's house in New Jersey that was damaged/destroyed (?) in a hurricane. All of the work that she does uses recycled wood, mostly previously painted, and damaged now. Nail holes and all.
I think you should put a time lapse camera up there so eventually we can all see how it grows! Also maybe we will see the owl.
Lovely roof top
willyou be putting any plants into the pond Kate? Also maybe at some point get a hand rail on the walk way future proof it.
The cabin is such a peaceful respite nestled among the natural landscape! ♥️ It must be entirely satisfying to see your vision come to fruition! Ant is a wonder! A true craftsman and friend! I’m going to go over to his channel now and subscribe. God bless! 🌷
I remember when we first saw Ant and he shied away from the camera. Now he embraces it and has become a natural. I'm looking forward to seeing this roof as it develops. Intriguing!
Such a wonderful episode! The amount of thought and care you put into your cabin is amazing and it shows! It is turning out absolutely stunning! It will be so interesting to see updates in the future about how the green roof is doing, looking forward to them! 😍😍😍
Lovely
Have you found a water bottle and a spiggot, and what about old oil (naphtha) lamps, i could send you one when I drag my husband to meet my cousins in Scotland! I have been collecting them for years as it takes 8 to 10 to light up a 30 x30 ft sq cottage, I had a hole in the floor, for sweepings, although my sister in law discovered a cheeky racoon lifting her bread and sweets! I just put a soup pot on the board and a log in it!
Lovely idea 😊
You two are so good together.
It might look nice to use a semi-sheer green fabric that blends with the green outside for your curtains.
Jesus Christ is coming back soon so enjoy it while you can Kate. It is so awesome ❤
Kate you need to shave that sweater. It would look brand new.
I am so jealous it will amazing
Learned something new today. I didn’t know about owl pellets. Cool
Love your green roof! It will be fabulous when it grows in. I was wondering if you should put a bird netting on to provide protection from the critters and leaves, etc. take care and garden on ❤
You two are so lovely to watch. Great team work! I watch your channel too Ant!
Kate and Ant, FABULOUS JOB!!! It was 106 degrees here today in Central Valley, California! Wishing I had a COOL CABIN! Blessing’s, Dawn
Can’t wait to see how it goes.. well done
Beautiful
I love our girl !. So Ant , glad she's got you and John make her dreams feel true! I have some oil lamps from our cottage, i want to create a new one but, love and adore what 67 years of cottageing has taught me! Quilting is an exercise in necessity, i love the quilts from Gee's corner!
Awwwww you used my Snoopervisor title♥️.Big love.I love the drainage cuts on the sides of the roof to make the water come out on the sides! I bet all that work is draining isnt it hehehe!Seriously though it looks like a lot of hard work Im sure the grass pieces are heavy. The roof is also very steady with all the weight.Great video as always!
Wow, it'll look amazing!!
We call this weather Juneuary! Very similar where live! But the plants like it. I love that that someone came up with "snoopervising" for Eileen. How perfect. But you need a sign or something, because, of course, it IS "her" pond. lol
The drone adds a lot! ❤
Wow Kate! I always learn so much from your channel... I have never seen or heard of growing a roof like this. Amazing!! When I heard you saying you were going to put a green roof on, my mind automatically was envisioning a tin wavy dark green roof...hahaha was I ever surprised!! I absolutely love it, great job Ant!!
Greetings from Ontario, Canada to you Kate and Ant. What a great project you have going on. It will be interesting to see what takes shape on that roof. I can see where it acts as an insulate. Love watching the progress on the cabin.
What a beautiful way to finish the cabin. Very much looking forward to seeing it next spring. I imagine the owl watching with interest while you’re working 🪶🦉🌱
Can you give us the link to Ant’s CZcams channel?

I thoroughly enjoyed your video! Life is good!❤
You and Ant are so funny together! 😂😂😂. What a fab project - it’s going to be amazing. Looking forward to seeing the progress and thanks for the video - loved it as always. Sounds like your having the same weather as our Winter - freezing nights and 12 degree days! Do hope it warms up for you. Hugs to you both Meredithe 🤗🤗🇦🇺
Thank you for sharing your green roof. This has been totally new for me. I wonder if in a future video you could tell us more about Eileen. How did she come to be with you. How long has she been at your place. Do you get other geese. Thanks again❤
I love Ant. His videos are so relaxing and enjoyable. What a wonderful friend and neighbor.
Great job, Ant! It’s lovely Kate❤
I love how Eileen hangs out with you guys as you work! I think she thinks all of this is just for her. What a treasure you and Ant have made in this sweet cabin. I agree....Ant can do anything and with such a great personality!
Amazing!
have never seen this done wow tell him get his own show as well lol
Kate did you think about putting a staircase to the roof and a little landing so you can go up easily to maintain?
😂 All this time, when you kept mentioning the green roof, I thought you meant a green metal roof! 🤣 As long as you don’t have to mow it! 🙃 You have to tell us how you’re getting it filmed from up above! Inquiring minds want to know! 😝
THIS IS AMAZING!!! Love the idea of little spring flowers but didn't think of the tree seedlings. Oh boy! Believe thou a set of steps will be in order for you to get there. Just a lovely view.
That roof is going to look great when it all grows in. You are very lucky to have a wonderful neighbor who is so handy at just about everything. Once again I learned something new on your channel. Have a wonderful week
Eileen the guard goose!
