What I find intriguing is that in the headmaster's anime, Punch/counter punch Is one of the characters that's extremely accurate to Toy appearance that being as counterpunch when he's running around the Decepticon base his punch components are visible on his back, Also in the headmaster anime he only has one yellow gun.

One thing I will always appreciate is your ability to flawlessly match cut between things. That tall Punch to short Punch transition was satisfyingly solid.

Punch's deal is basically "What if James Bond an alter-ego called Counterbond, who is just James Bond walking backwards with a hat pulled over his face, and he drives James Bond's car, and this somehow works."

I've been re-watching a lot of your older reviews the last few days, and I came to the conclusion that you can review anything, and I'll love it. I love seeing stuff like this in the context of today.
Punch counterpunch being a guy with the minds of 2 people inside him constantly fighting for control is unironically the coolest concept I’ve heard for the character
I still have my Punch/Counterpunch somewhere. I got it at a yard sale, though, so he's missing his weapons. But I *adore* him. Any time a Transformer had more than 2 modes, it excited me. Six-Shot was my holy grail, but I never did acquire one.
Sixshot got a reissue or two iirc, so there should be more floating around out there now ✨
With that short leg configuration, this really sets the template for the Animated Shockwave spy conversion.

It's funny how in the Headmaster's cartoon, Galvatron of all people was the ONLY one to notice Punch on the back of Counterpunch. Galvatron!

I never knew about Punch's "short king" leg configuration, and as a frequent carouser of the Trivia sections of TFwiki pages, this gaping void in my knowledge shames me.

@@Vangelus If you put it into either the short leg configuration, or the full leg with the feet pointing down, and fold out the arms to the sides with the wheels facing towards the front of the vehicle, it makes a pretty cool looking MASK style flying mode.
Makes me want to go downstairs and dig up the modern figure from its two pack and play with it some more

the POTP one was my introductio to the character,never got the toy tho, him being a deluxe, on top of being an expensive one doesn't feel like is giving him a high enough partscount to make him work.
I knew of the character since the 1980s, but the POTP version was the first version I owned, because the original is old and hard to find, and the other intervening versions were all stinkin' convention exclusives. I quite like the POTP version, but the leg engineering was a bit . . . off.
Wow, crazy coincidence, I finally snagged this guy from a local toy shop this past weekend. Such a great slice of this era of G1, which has been my favorite era of G1 for a long time.
Funnily enough, my waist slide has the opposite problem, being slightly too loose. If only our Punch-Counterpunches' waists could transfer energies across the internet.
Also, I feel like, in terms of the toy’s storytelling, it makes more sense to me if Counterpunch is the true form, given how much better hidden it is in Punch mode.

Oh my goodness yes. Got this a little bit after childhood for $8 in a comics shop, and has been in my top 10 ever since. Such good handfeel for them joints! Such a great color scheme!

I genuinely thought this was an old review I somehow missed and haven’t watched when it comes to my recommended feed. 😅 Such a pleasant surprise that it’s a new review. Never had a Punch/Counterpunch, but finally got lucky few days ago and managed to nab a used Dominua 2 pack with Barricade. He (or they?) has always been such interesting character(s) begging to be explored more.
Punch/counter punch having a sukuna/yuji dynamic would be pretty fun

1 of my favorites
Punch/Counterpunch was like, the first G1 toy I got as a teenage collector in the mid 2000's, and man does it still hold up as just a cool transforming robit.
(Also Skybound should have made Punch one of the autobots in the initial cast but it is what it is)

I have a feeling you'd like Double from Mega Man X4, he is huge Punch/Counterpunch energy, even with his happy friendly form being short and stumpy (though he was a bad guy the entire time).
I love Double's design but in X4 he's such a non entity I had trouble getting into his big swerve haha

So, given that the FunPub prose story, "The Truth We Make," already pretty definitively told the tale of Punch/Counterpunch having a split personality and being uncertain which was the real one, I'm guessing your treatment would differentiate itself by focusing more on the body horror (robo-dy horror?) of the whole situation?
