That would be cool if it was a madtom catfish of some kind

Yeah looks about right for a mad Tom catfish.😅
Eastern and northern America. So I would say that's what you probably have there.

    Very cool looking little guy
I'm thinking black bullhead that have a similar tail to that and are pretty small

      I hope it's a Madtom.

@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly madtomsare pretty cool to catch and have. I caught a brindled Madtom and bought a speckled Madtom for my 29 gallon tank

@@DanHiteshew-oneandonlyI got three and was hoping for that too- but the “adipose” fin on madtoms is connected and doesn’t protrude . There are charts that show the differing fins and characteristics- given that, it’s like a bullhead. Unfortunately, since I’m nuts and they are so interesting , I’m already looking into oversized tanks!

Looks like a bullhead to me. It’s tail doesn’t look forked so that rules out channel cat. It also has a more developed adipose fin compared to yall’s madtoms.

It’ll be cool to see him grow up if you decide to keep em.

Most cat fish have a v shaped tail. Flat head cats and bull head have a more flat tail

Be careful with game regulations when taking animals from the wild (although fish are not animals when it comes to animal safety regulations)

If they're not protected for breeding reasons you can practically torture any fish you want, and the illegal part is just catching them. Fish and insects have no rights, I'd be shocked if reptiles did even though you need a licence. If it's not a protected species or from a protected lake then you can do literally whatever you want with it. The government only cares about fish from an ecological perspective
