Interstellar is one of those films I love despite of its flaws. I've always thought it was very ambitious in its attempt to connect the 'cold science' of space with the intimacy of human relationships, this video therefore is my attempt to highlight this connection and explore what Nolan envisioned when he embarked on this project. I hope it's not too confusing, if it is; please leave a comment and I (or perhaps someone else) will surely reply. I am always excited to hear what you think! :)

Oh I wasn't really referring to flaws in its science but rather some flaws in its storytelling/writing. That sounds really interesting though!
Nolan is trying to point out that there is a connection between science and "intimacy of human relationships".
Do you really think that there is a correlation between those two disciples?
Naveen Perera the idea here is that nolan is trying to connect the "empty" and "cold" scientific view of the world around us to the most human of emotions. this is a similar project to nietzsches idea of eternal recurrence. making us feel at home in the world.
Naveen Perera usually we see none and thats exactly the point. making us feel at home and connected, when we think about gravity, instead of thinking about physics and lemma etc.
this is malicks intension, too. portray our being at home in the world, not feeling seperate from it. its huge.
What flaws? The apparent flaws are people's idiosyncratic peeves at best, at worst it is people not understanding the nature of the film(or they just didn't understand it on an intellectual level-even though everyone could identify with it on an emotional level, if they are honest) either because they expect genre conventions or because they are snobs who pretend to know what they are talking about.

My take on love and time: I am not a scientist just my interpretation.
The deeper the love connection for a particular moment. The easier it is to revisit that moment via memory. THAT is how we transcend time.
I can relive the moment my daughter was born. I can tell you who was in the room. What my wife said to me. What her first whine sounded like. What the smell was when I first walked in. What her skin felt like. How quickly I fell in love with her.
It could be JUST a memory, but to remember a memory so vividly that I can almost BE there.
It is what I cherish most in this world.

I come back to this video often. Not because I love Interstellar, but because nothing else quite captures the feelings I struggle with as I watch my children grow up so fast, my husband and I age, and my parents get closer to their inevitable deaths. Being trapped within time is unbearable to watch.

"You know people rag on this movie for the "love being the key to save humanity" angle but I realized after watching multiple times that if cooper would have sent the message to anybody else it would have definitely gone over their heads and humanity would have been doomed.
People are too self centered, absorbed and obsessed with self image and self perception with social media that if the universe in someway try to send us a message nobody would notice.

there were several times over the last 67 years that I stared into the abyss, locked in a state of despair and soulcrushing grief, wanting to let go and let the darkness take me into dissolution. There was always something pulling me back from the edge. I felt it wasn't something innate in me, some hidden reserve of strength, because in those moments I felt that my "tank was nearly empty". What the movie Intersteller awoke in my mind was a sort of affirmation of something I'd suspected existed from all my spirtual and intellectual searching. I call it the Quantum Entanglement of Love.

Something else worth mentioning. The reason Saturn is referenced multiple times in this movie, as the point where the wormhole is and where Cooper ends up to be discovered at the end. Is because Saturn is the God of Time and Space. Saturn is also the God of Agriculture, which is a reference to to the dying crops on Earth in Interstellar.

It’s hard to find people who appreciate this film as much as I do. A lot of people say it’s slow and long but I feel it was necessary and it’s one of my top 3 favorite films. Every thing about this film is impactful and I’m grateful for it. It’s truly unique.
Honestly I wished there were more slow moving and long movies. Slow moving doesn’t automatically mean that nothing is happening but that they use more time to build a good and strong storyline and foundation. I prefer this over movies that feel rushed.
I struggle with this too. I try to explain and spark interest for them when explaining my friends so that I can find someone to talk to. Sometimes with some success, but most of the times I fail.

The Soundtrack of this movie, gets me everytime I watch it. Hans Zimmer created a sound, of absolute desaster and loneliness, as well as helplessness with tiny bits of hope in between.

The belief in life after death is useless when you're already dead. Belief belongs to the living. That is what the dying leave behind so that, others may live.

That loss of time. I'm tearing up right now even, watching this analysis. It was something, which I felt profoundly, and which hit in an instant, after 'waking up' from a decade of clinically depressed state, and realizing the time I had lost. I've never, before or since, felt as devastating a feeling. And that knowledge is also the thing, which keeps me from ever wanting to experience it again. Or for anyone else to experience it at all.

Twenty some years have passed while I've been forgetting existence, depression. I only vaguely regret it. They were peaceful years. I know there is loss, but there was loss before and I only connect gently with that loss.
What I miss most is the sharpness, the quickness and accuracy of my brain.
Depression is null. That can be a comfort. Life is painful ... or it is for me. I don't know why people hurt so much. I hurt them, they hurt me. I quit.

One thing that truly helped me with that pain is the understanding of SOUL and how it is just as powerful as Time.. If we understand that 'death' is not death as we know it but simply a transition out of the body, we start to understand that one day that we never really do miss anything in our lives. Maybe we did not experience certain things in this body/realm, but those things we missed will most likely come back around in another space/time. It is only our perception of our lives being trapped in 'time' that brings the pain because of the feeling of missing something we may never get back. Remember, Our soul is infinite, the only thing time imprisons is the physical realm. Love is the connection to the soul. The soul is the master of time.

I am a bit hard of hearing and I couldn't hear much of anything Coop said, i found it very annoying, like did he really have to whisper threw the whole film =[
akshay Viswambharan it’s meant to be vague. And remember, everything that we “know” only comes from humans. We literally could be wrong about everything in the universe. What is the “sense” you speak of. How do we know anything is possible or not possible?

When I first heard the reviews of Interstellar when it came out, the critics were horrible. They massacred the film, calling it confusing and a drag. I decided to wait for it to come out on dvd to watch it. I watched it about a year later and I was so moved by it, I have watched it close to 10 times since then and own the dvd. I absolutely loved the connection of science and human need for relationships. I think Nolan's movies will become a topic of many educational pieces in the future.
It was before it’s time
I think folk expected another 2001 with this movie. And as much as i like 2001 and consider it a classic, it's an ultimately cold movie -- with human wonder rather than heart. Interstellar is about the heart first, science etc after. If you're a cold, clinical or cynical person, then this movie won't touch you the way it's meant to. And also -- like a lot of Christopher Nolan's movies -- it needs to be seen more than once to discover the depth and intricacies. I didn't like it on a first viewing, but about three more viewings later, i love it (and get it).
I watched it before it was released. They had an early screening at Camp Lejeune, and some of the guys on our platoon and I were like "A Nolan flick? Oh hell yeah!" (Remember, The Dark Knight and Inception memories were still very fresh for us, so we were excited.)
We left the theater in absolute awe. I remember walking back to our barracks and discussing the movie with everybody, some saying they preferred Inception over it, and others disagreeing completely, and us trying to analyze some of the themes in the movie.
It gave us plenty to talk about when we got back, and while we were hanging out by the smoke pit.
I fucking love that movie.
Nolan changed my life with his themes in the dark Knight, turned me into a cinephile and a forever Nolan fan!
The reviews are a net positive. Hardly massacred. It’s a great film but that doesn’t make it immune to criticism.
No other film accurately represents the relationship we humans have with our mortality and love for others. It's truly a beautiful masterpiece of cinema.
the most beautiful thing about this movie is that these signs that humans face that cannot be explained, like a “ghost” could really be something or someone from another world speaking through to us.

Fear also plays a huge part in relationship to mortality, time/space, and love.
The fear of loving...the vulnerable nature of letting go.
My mom passed away a few weeks ago and she's been communicating in ways that remind me of Cooper pushing the books and manipulating the watch, somehow relaying energy through space and time to let me know it's all OK. The signs are real and abundant if I tune in. Too much to explain here, but I no longer fear death after her answering my prayers in real time. The journey there is the issue, and dealing with this loss of loved ones along the way in a manner that makes sense and is bearable. Life is as cruel as it is beautiful, but now more than ever I see the universe as billions of points of intelligence having a shared experience, everything everywhere all at once, I am you and what I see is me. My mom has been my guardian angel my whole life, even while she was supposedly on this earth alive. Now I know she's been out there pushing books this whole time and it's an immensely comforting feeling despite the overwhelming loss. Going to interview my mom's friends and my dad about her life since I didn't get to, so that future generations can reach into the past and know the love and power she had. Thanks for this video it moved me to tears.

Ive been alone, for quiet some time, almost two years, I have people I see in work, and my mum I see once every few weeks, other than that I have myself and music and being in nature. But after watching this movie again tonight, for the 5th or 6th time, I think I’ve realised that love must be objective. I feel love more since I’ve been alone, I cry, I connect more with emotions, even through watching characters on screen, I see their tears and those feelings they are acting out are IN ME. I am a 33 year old Man, I’ve never been to space or left my kids behind, (because I have no kids) it isn’t nostalgias because past times don’t come to my mind when I cry at scenes in movies. I connect with an emotion of which I have never been in or close too, but I FEEL those feelings so much that it affects me for a long while afterwards. So, what is love? It is deeply caring for someone else or some time else than what I am experiencing now, yes. But it’s more than that, it is something else, and maybe we can’t know what it is because of the way our lives play out (entropy) but I’ve come to realise (personally) that even in its saddest forms, it is BEAUTIFUL, and powerful. So what is it? Is it built into us to preserve life and keep the species going....(like Dr Mann) Or are we taught it? (Highly unlikely in my case) is it something to be explored? Is it a reward for being on our right path In life? Is it merely a side effect of a chemical being released in the Brain? I don’t know........I believe that Love is SOMETHING , in and of itself. Maybe it’s the making of us, maybe it points us to our hero we want to Be. Whatever it is, I’m so fucking glad I can feel it. 😭😊😊😊😊😊

I can empathise with people going through experiences that are devastating or even just emotional....but I can’t help feeling like I need to go deeper, why do we have empathy for others? Survival of species? Is it bred into us or taught? empathy has some aspects of love within it I think. Still looking for love......well actually, I’m not looking at all, that’s probably my problem. When I watch movies like this I think, what’s wrong with me that I can’t have that deep deep connection, (like I can when watching a movie) is it the music that drives the emotion? Is it normal day to day life. Like work and bills, bad weather, not sleeping enough, poor diet etc etc....that stop us seeing what’s really important?? I don’t know the answers. Sometimes I wish I didn’t think about things like this, I wish I would just forget to question everything, and just live life the way I see so many around me doing, but stuff, have a wife and I kids and work!!! There’s something else out there to BE or DO
.......yes I would love it to involve deep, deep TRUE love with a woman who is the other half of me, but I think sometimes, a lot of the time, (nearly all of time) I’m lost in the mystery of everything.....existence, time, reality, love, biology, physics, light..emotion etc, rather than just playing this game called life that most people seem to do well at. I’ve been in love, twice, been hurt tonnes of times and probably hurt others more than that. Life is tough, would just love some answers or at least a wife to live me and talk with me an make me realise that even if I don’t know what’s going on, well I have someone with me to make that journey worthwhile for us both.

while i was sleeping, she was in my dreams, then i woke up in the morning, and my daughter tells me , mom, i dreamed with you today, my heart swollen of happiness and I told her about she was in my dream, she's 7.
When my son was 3 years old we had a snap in the afternoon and in my dream I was looking for my wedding ring. When we wake up my son run out of the room and brought me back my wedding ring from a little box (my fingers were swollen so I couldn't wear it) and asked me: Is this what you are looking for? My jaw was dropped, I couldn't even say a word.

Clearly, Christopher Nolan is acutely aware of the significance of dreams (Inception), and the idea that there's so much more there, more going on, than we currently understand. Your dream and his...shared brain waves...or something along those lines. It's like the farmer in Inception who tells Cooper to come back home because all the automated farming tractors mysteriously came straight to the house. When Cooper arrives, the farmer (off camera) says, "Magnetism, or some such." A very folksy way of communicating the idea of "I don't know exactly why this happened, but it must have to do with magnetism." How did your shared dream happen? We don't know, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen, or that there isn't an explanation.
@@brianmessemer2973 I've read somewhere that little children are in the aura of their mothers in the first 6 years of their life. (That's why mom and child can get ill at the same time so many time. ...it also happened with us ,too. ) Since then I'm reading the books of Dr. Joe Dispenza and Dr. Bruce Lipton (they have lots of vids here on YT as well) ...I started to understand now what happened then and there in the quantum field :)...we are really not separated at all, adults just think that way, but for babies and small children...they are still one with the Universe and of course MUM . Once when I was very angry my son told me : You are red! and he made a circle around my head ..then I stopped quarreling right at that moment...he could hardly speak then about 2,5 years old, he didn't knew the saying in our language (Hungarian) :"Your head is red because of anger! " But he could see the colour of my aura at that moment.

When my daughter was about 6 months old, she was taking a nap in her crib next to my bed, I fell asleep wondering what she would look like. I had a dream she was about 3 years old and had blonde curly hair. She was giggling and throwing yellow flower pedals on me saying “daddy wake up”. I slowly opened my eyes as I woke up with her standing in her crib smiling at me. 3 years later she looked exactly like she did in my dream. I’ll never forget how real that dream was. My daughter Luna and I have always had a strong connection. Almost to the point of what some would say telepathic. One time I was sitting downstairs on the couch watching Real World 3 (Puck!) and she was upstairs yelling “daddy!”. I kept saying “what!” And she kept just saying “daddy!”, after the 3rd or 4th time I finally went upstairs as she and her mom were getting ready for church. I said “what do you want baby?” (She was about 4 years old), she laughed and said “oh nothing, I was just playing”. At that very moment the ceiling collapsed onto the couch where I was sitting. The ceiling was made of old concrete and each piece of the ceiling weighed about 20-75Lbs. If I never went upstairs, if she never called my name, I would most likely be dead or seriously injured. She and I had multiple accounts like this. It’s a pretty strange and magical bond. Also to add, we also look exactly alike. Not just similar, but exactly alike, to the point people are wowed by it all the time and just stare in awe.
Something I find worth noting, the world that Brand's love went to, the one she finally ended up in, was the planet that happened to be hospitable and suitable for life. She said as much in her speech, maybe it was her link to him , her love that gave her the gut instinct that it was the right planet to go to, to choose. This was a very well done video, thank you so much for the insight.
Eternal life in heaven is a free gift from God. No human being deserves it due to his/her good works. We have all sinned and fall short in glory of God(eg.Jesus says if any man looks at woman with lust he has committed adulterly with her in his heart..No man is that pure😅). So how did God give us this free gift🤔? He sent his only begotten son to be betrayed,humiliated ,beaten and die as fine/payment for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Since he is a just God and has to punish sin. All you have to do is humbly repent of all your sins(read the 10 commandments) honestly turn away from them. Believe in/trust that Jesus did that for you. Confess with your mouth that he is your lord and saviour..You will be saved from hell🔥. The holyspirit(his omnipresent spirit) will in dwell within you and convert your cold heart of stone into that of flesh that can truly love God and be a slave of righteousness and not of sin. This might be the last time you read the true gospel of salvation..look around 🔥🔥 the end is nigh. Please don't reject God's gift. Your soul is on the line.Jesus loves you❤

It may have been Murph’s love for her father that bound the two through time and space, but Cooper was the one who made it all happen and saved mankind. Cooper took all the risk, yet he is hardly regarded by the few surviving humans. That is the way it is with humans, the savior is rarely, if ever, fully appreciated at the time, instead somehow crediting ourselves, the saved. The savior is never truly seen or valued for his sacrifice, and in this, is the essence of love, selflessness.
There is always a deeper meaning to Nolan films, that's why I love his unique take on movies. It's easy to criticise his films but let's not forget he gives us unique and mostly original stuff. You have to respect him for that. Interstellar was an amazing watch and on imax was breathtaking.

gosh, this makes me cry everytime i watch this. realizing how much time ive wasted because of my ego and i was doing stupd shit i shouldn't have done. graduated HS in 2016 (decided to take 2 years off), no friends (they became less interested in me), barely involved with family, and I personally changed in a bad way too . Just work from 4pm to 11 pm wake up around 11am and go to work from 4-11 6 days a week. being stuck in my comfort zone, fantasizing about my future and never making a change. time is our biggest enemy and i wish i could go back in time and make better decisions. gosh it just makes me sad when i think about not having any memories or good times with my family, loved ones, not being there with them because "I'll hang out wit them next week" and then work would come up. i can go on and on but man, turning 21 and finally realizing that HOW much time i wasted and that i CAN NEVER get to fill those memories with my family/loved ones.

Your schedule sounds very similar to how mine is, the difference is that I’m 24. And the great thing about this is that yes we have wasted time in theory but thanks to all that “ wasted time “ we now are aware of it which means we can change and make better choices while time is here we can’t change it or go back but surely we can influence it with taking action Now.
I don’t see it as wasted time if you ask me, it’s more like the time we passed showed us and molded us to the person we are now.

My god this video is so important. Interstellar is underrated not in the sense it isn't recognised, but in the sense it is judged so quickly and underrated in terms of its actual meaning and message. People don't want to understand something as complicated as what interstellar talks about. The quotation in the beginning put my emotions regarding the movie so well. It isn't a perfect movie, it has its flaws but is every other great movie also perfect?
Why do so many overlook its meaning. I guess its complicated science is a great platform for amateur science enthusiasts to nit-pick, but the science isn't the point of any science fiction movie. Not really. The point is reflection on humans as a species and Earth- our thoughts, cooperation, ideas and goals.

YES! This exactly. Listen, I am an aerospace engineer. I love science, always have. But the real reason why I love sci-fi movies is not because of the science, but like you said, because of the reflection on humanity. It's a beautiful medium in which to express the biggest questions that make life worth exploring.

Another addition to your second section: the working title of the film was Flora's Letter (the name of Nolan's daughter). With this, and the obvious story of the film, it's no stretch to believe that the film is also a love letter or even apology letter to his children for being away for their childhoods (as he must leave home for long periods of time to film movies). We see this in Inception too, with the director (Cobb) and the whole goal being to get back to his children. Your essay is beautiful, and it made me realize that Time is the true opposing force, and that Nolan also fears it, for having lost moments with his own family, like Cooper.

As a father of a daughter, this is the absolutely most gut wrenching film I’ve ever seen. I personally believe that this film acknowledges the deep inconceivable love a father has for his daughter. He was in the teserect not Murph there for I believe it was his love that set the destination of the machine his love that only existed around murph but this is obviously just my opinion as a father

I have often felt that the Elton John song Rocket Man was just as your words say...the feeling of longing and loneliness for the someone who is not with you...simply from the perspective of the one who left, not the one who was left behind. So listen to it again and know that surely your father missed you and the days before deployment/training filled him with anguish of having to leave you. I cried when I watched Interstellar for the first time. And I cried right now watching this video essay.
Personally, this reminds me of the years I've lost since I was 17. I live in an archipelagic country so my parents sent me to a city to study and live with my brother. My brother was 8 years older than me so I was young when he also left for the city. We were close before he left. Months to years went by and I lost that closeness we had because of bad telecommunications and his rare visits because of rare and high prices of air travel (and other things I don't really remember). When it was my time to live in the city, I have never felt so alone. It was the same thing. The only difference was I am not my brother who is genuinely social. They say that regular socialization or talking to others makes your memories preserved better. I am also genuinely sociable but to few people. Being alone and away with the future memories I can make with my loved ones and friends made me slowly loosing my memories and the importance of people. I couldn't change my pasts and paths. I became aloof to distant from my parents. I got depression for years that I didn't know I had. My grandmother whom I loved has dementia and alzheimer's. Love was the only thing that I use to remember things that makes my life. I always remember their love for me as I do for them. By this, the amount of time that I've lost expressing my love to them doesn't matter anymore. It truly does transcends the lost time and chances that could have made differences. Memories of love perhaps saves the future of me being with them and motivates me to not be distant anymore.
The good news has once again come to you today. How're you doing? Your comment is old enough to possibly have been prior to the pandemic. Is everything ok? I myself had to move three timezone away from everyone I ever loved except for one, and lost connection with both my 8 years older brothers, which are now each older than my parents in my childhood memories.
I didn't realize that what I keep telling my wife, that at this point what we are, "are the foundational memories of our child" is in this movie.

He gives me gifts but we don't talk nor share to each other that much. I have only shared what our grandmother's state whom I took care of briefly every other day in two years (we are both loved and also taken care of by our grandmother who has dementia now and she's our connection to great childhood memories) but that is about it. I'm still hoping that when he comes home, it will be somewhat positively different. I miss my brother as I miss my grandmother with dementia.
Well done. As a single father of a nine year old girl, this movie completely destroyed me. It is far from perfect, but few films approach perfection. I found that love being the solution, it is our gift in life. The bulk beings do not experience time, but they aren't capable of experiencing love which we do. If I look back on my life, I have loved many who I thought I would love forever. If I didn't experience time, would I still love my ex wife? I hate her, but love another now. This is entirely dependent on being a prisoner of time. The love of a child though....it is unwavering. There is nothing they can do, that would change how we feel for them. It is a constant.

I took this movie to be about a man who is trying to create the best life he can for his children by working extremely long hours and being away constantly. However, by doing this, his children grow to hate him and he misses out on all the events in their life. By the time he feels like he completed what he set out to do his daughter is old and resentful and hes forced to let her go from his life. I work long hours and I have 4 daughters and I cried like a baby watching this movie. It was especially bad at the end when he realizes looking back in time that he should have been there more for his kids and he is yelling at himself to not leave Murph because of what the future holds. Amazing movie but super sad.
If only my father thought that too in the same situation.

Coming home after the 2020 pandemic was definitely that intrinsically personal experience: time did pass, no the world and home didn’t freeze, and it was an experience likely shared by billions. This scene, already profound, now holds so much meaning: the birthdays, the births, the marriages, the long distance “I love yous” or breakups, graduations, the death of so many (so close and so far), first words and last ones, successes, failures, tears and laughs, and so many more detailed experiences lost during the pandemic. We are beings constantly experiencing time, albeit, subtly sometimes but passing nonetheless.
In the end we have to ask ourselves "who do I love enough to transcend time?"
True love is unconditional, appreciation and satisfaction. ITs not about who.....its how...........experience and observation without condition. To love then expect to transcend time....that!! is a condition. ALso, there is no time.

I don't know many people in real life who love this film, on the contrary, most can't even stand watching it till the end. Yet, for me, it's always on my top 3. It's probably because of multiple reasons... my love for science fiction, Hans Zimmer and maybe also because the concept of time lost is very meaningful to me. In any case, I'm glad this video transcended time and reached my recommendations 6 years later, it reminded me and showed me more reasons to love this film. Thank you!

The way you have captured how encompassing time is through this video (calling it a video is completely unjust, this is a piece of art.) you have done justice to what an epic and transcending journey those 2h 49m were. I regret I could not see Interstellar in big screen. When I bought the DVD saw the film twice in the same night, so astonished and emmotionaly broken I became at the end. Never cried so much seing a movie as in that night. Of course Hans Zimmer music took a part on making me so emmotional. He is a genius.
Nolan really confirn in the movie plot that time is our worst enemy, although we can't see, feel, touch, smell, or prove it's existence.
Time consumes us, yet the passage of time makes us add knowledge and wisdom. Our civilization grew in time and because of time. We study about our past to avoid mistakes in the future.
Or, at least, we try to learn.

So many video essay channels say so much but teach so little. You're different. What you say shows you've carefully studied the subject matter and are able to shed a light on the connecting thread that weaves all the aspects of a film's message together. You don't use big words or talk slowly to sound smarter, every sentence you put together crams twice the information some other videos offer in their whole runtime. I'm a little biased since Interstellar is my favorite film, but I also loved Arrival and watched your video on it, and both are just as good.

Now many of you understand why some of us studied philosophy and logic in detail and depth at university, even though our majors did not require it, or, even at times, discouraged it. Empirical methods of scientific study are a tool of the rational mind, but it is not the alpha and omega of all reason and existence. So many modern curriculum have attempted to objectify every discipline of life into objective formulas than many now believe that science is everything, not just ONE vital aspect of rational consciousness.
For those that skipped philosophy or took just the obligatory Intro course as their last semester before graduation, I might suggest you read: Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Kierkegaard digests/primers in that order. Then some actual works of those scholars. You will find the competing and complimentary maxims of our world today. You will understand so much more than objectively looking at religions, governments, politicians, economics and pop science. Those maxims are the fundamental driving factors of life, personality and community.
Yes. I did the equivalent of a minor in Philosophy in my undergraduate years, because I was interested in in rather than for my degree. It's this period of my life that formed me into the adult I am today. I sometimes feel lonely in this society because so few people have studied philosophy at all and some people's way of seeing the world is so narrow and limited. Yet the fault is not entirely with the individual. Our society is plagued by a quest for comfort and convenience at the expense of deep questioning, intellectual discomfort, of discipline and rigor of the mind as well as the body. Everyone should study philosophy, but society directs people elsewhere to satiate their intellectual curiosity. In high school my friends were in a Catholic youth group, the religion my mother raised me in, so I sincerely explored Catholicism for a few years and, although I'll always remain grateful for the strong friendships and positive experiences I had enjoyed within that setting, I found the religion itself to be wholly unsatisfying and misguided as a vehicle through which to understand existence. Perhaps this failed search for answers through religion in High School lead me towards philosophy in college. Thank you for sharing your comment, which resonates strongly with me.
Philosophy didn't afford me the opportunity to walk again after years in a wheel chair. Scientists who viewed the world through a naturalistic and formulaic world view afforded me a second chance in the form of two hip replacements.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, this the best and most thought provoking video I've seen in a long time. It's melancholy yet mysteriously motivating (we are fixed on trying to transcend time but everything's leading toward entropy). With that as the unequivocal way of the universe....makes you wonder about your purposes. Your somber voice goes well with the concepts of time being this tragic thing that's ever eluding. I liked interstellar, but now you made me love it because you pointed out some deep meaningful details of the film. It truly is ambitious but still very grounded. Thanks for dropping the knowledge to make me appreciate it!

Yes I did figure it out. Brand speaking about love is the major part of the plot. Nolan really deserves to be called the greatest director of all time.

"Love" as the connecting transmitter, as the frequency that reaches, breaches and breaks all the fabric and limits of time!!! Makes a whole lot more Sense now. In my book that love is called Salvation. God is the Ultimate expression of Love.
Your explanation of being trapped within time and the inevitable passing of it in the 2nd half of the video made me bawl. One lifetime on this earth is simply not enough. Always live in the moment because time is such a thief. I can say this wholeheartedly as a girl who loves her son, partner and family more than anything.
Interstellar IS my favourite movie from Nolan, and a regular go to whenever I have spare time and the mood. Having declared this, I watched it first day-first show with my friends (read : Nolan Fans ) at the local theatre, and though the overall opinions were rave, they just couldn't wrap around this introduction of the theme of LOVE (dreaded 4 letter word, I know ). It's placement in the plot seemed flawless to me, and not that hard to accept, but as you state in this very amazing analysis, IT SEEMS THAT THE NOTION OF LOVE AND ANY ANALYSES OF IT is discounted these days, whereas hardcore scientific concepts and elements (even theoretical ones) are accepted unflinchingly like the norm. I'd like to mention that my friends and I are all engineers by qualification and profession, so perhaps we have a penchant for shiny things; THINGS nonetheless. This emotional viewpoint and it's profound implications to lead a holistic life are most of the times hush-hushed in this tech driven, stark and empirical world. Thank you again, for a wonderful video! I am blessed. :)

One of my favorite movies. The movie gave me feelings that I can't describe it with words.
Very good analysis. I think that in Interstellar the unidirectional communication between Murph and her father is also a metaphor for how we remain bound to our deceased loved ones. We continuously speak to them and of course, we do not receive answers back as Murph does with Cooper. And eventually, after decades, we give up talking with them, like in the case of Cooper's son.
Wow...what a phenomenal video. The more I watch Interstellar, the more I've realized that love was the connecting factor, not science. And you explained this wonderfully.
