I Hope this Guide is Full of Beans!
omg lol is that what he says. i couldn’t for the life of me figure it out 😅 i thought maybe “full of bees”… lol
I'm glad I'm not the only person who hears this.
Ow, my face!
@@karlhenke91 I think he's saying "Outa my face" as in "get out of my face" which I think makes more sense. Correct me if I'm wrong
@@Raindrop_2401 idk it sounds like “ow” bc it sounds like he’s been hurt
Something this dlc really hammered home for me was how much I appreciate having an Ogre on the team. Three breakers, all with a break brooch, and *still* struggled to get them on the superbosses.
Well now that it's OGRE, you can go back to playing the main game!
@@Sherkel wow, that's so cheesy but honestly hilarious, lol. 😂
For me I was really frustrated about the fact that I can only have two healers. I'm just so used to having 3 that I just die so easily with only two.
@@themegatonmenace1224 i kinda get it, but also not really because i also haven't really had any problems with not enough healing, except for the start of the game and up to like the mid-story or something. Perhaps you haven't invested into your healers enough? Especially Glimmer. She has the strongest healing in the party, has great skills, arts, and ouroboros power effects. Btw, how far into the story of FR are you? Cause healing becomes less of a problem as you go on.
@@lemmyxpro I've beaten the game and the level 70 post-game boss but I'm not strong enough to beat the level 90 post game boss
I know this means nothing in the grand scheme but I love the subtle animation of how he disengages his blade in a professional martial artists stance, shows that despite being an idiot he's very disciplined
I mean he is a direct reference to Fei Fong Wong from Xenogears, so I think it is quite appropriate.
Matthew's animations go pretty hard. I like the quick head tilt (neck pop?) that he does after doing his finisher in a Chain Attack and the front roll jump he does when doing a unity combo. Dude radiates "cool"
LUDO NARRATIVE!
What I love most about Matthew's Kit is that it tells a narrative sorry through gameplay. Matt's grandpa trained him to react to enemy arts and counter them with well-timed arts or dodges of his own. Some classes in the base game tried to have evades, knockBack, or quick reactions to enemies doing things built into mechanics, but the screen was always too chaotic for me to look at anything but my arts pallets below.
With Matt, the optimal way to play him IS to counter boss attacks with his kit! It adds nuance to his character and motivations. A and the others all SAY he's reckless, but playing him gives insight into his strategies: his reckless intervention in Nikol Vs. Glimmer, and his aggressive search for city refugees, is baiting out Mobius so he has a chance to glean their intentions and counter-attack their offensive on the city. His base 15 TP in chain attacks suggests he doesn't have the tactics to outsmart Mobius intellectually, but he knows that if he shuffles around the various pieces in their war he has a chance to get lucky with something and strike when the moment is most opportune. He's a wildcard only because he knows playing Mobius at their own game is a losing battle.
The connections between game play and story is what xenoblade does best
I love how the optimal strat for every character is just “support Rex” and then Nikol’s just there
The extra launch boy if the other person fails or is on cooldown
The Shulk Matthew unity was really useful for exploration. Since it's an aoe burst, it demolishes nearby enemies
Quite so! That’s actually why I like it so much. It’ll probably help with farming, too!
Matthew’s moveset is so much fun! I wish this was Ghondor’s class in the base game, having a talent art that instantly recharges all your arts from cooldown is better than one that requires all of them up to begin with.
tfw you're an attacker and your best gem is a green one
I really like having him with the Melia Heroic Chain to go over 100% for the Power Charges in chain attacks
Matt Fong Wong
We all know it! It's him.
You probably are already aware but as a heads up, there is a sidequest to follow to people to some supply hideaway and afterwards it upgrades the storage area and you can buy ceramic belts which increase Attack by 30%. Just figured i'd let you know! Thank you so much for the content!
Peridot is the name of the person with the quest and the quest name is abandoned supplies. Its a really simple quest and the ceramic belts sell for 8600. She's right out front of the supply store for anyone curious
@@BathtubMicrowave64 No gonna lie, I think Bobobi's Shop is the best since it's where you get your affinity amulets (affinity bonuses in base game)
I noticed that myself. I bought that as soon as I started adjusting my equipment
finally, all my fellow Matthew’s will ascend to our peak potential
Helpful as always, hope shulk will be soon since I enjoy playing with him.
In so far as Unity Combos, I really Like
Matthew and Shulk - The instant use of their unity combo + the unity combo boosting item makes crowd control/mobbing super fast. It sped up the time it took me to go through Valak mountain by 2x easily. Post game its probably not THAT useful, but Side launching with Rex into Matthew/Shulks combo feels really good.
Rex and Glimmer - for all the reasons you stated
A and Nikol -because I used the memory locket on Nikol. A lot of enemies had large scale AOEs and effects like sleep so popping the Unity combo leaves a tank and 2 reviving characters alive and healthy for after the AOE goes off. Its particularly useful against the Thunderfish superboss.
I liked using it mostly for the sake of more drops from instant bursts
Made leveling my weapons a breeze
Let the bean-filling commence.
Matthew has some of the highest multipliers when fighting higher level enemies and against unique monsters. Which definitely helps the only issue being that he only does single hits mostly and doesn't really ignore def even if he can be an art spammer if he's lucky
Thanks for uploading your guides so fast!
Victors combo is absolutely a buster skill since i triggers way more than it looks, allowing you to chain arts almost as much as rex with DOUBLE SPINNING EDGE
quick note, after the quest that takes you to the supply depot, the accessory shop in colony 9 sells ceramic belts for a 30% attack boost, which is stronger than the silver belt
Wow , you must be some kind of genius! - really loving the guides! (also I lol every time Matthew says that during the upgrades.)
Idk if anyone noticed this but Matthew fights really similar to Fei. Some of his attacks look like Feis early deathblows in Xenogears and that's awesome.
Yeah i've never actually played Xenogears (it's on my backlog) and I noticed that his idle battle animation is basically Fei's as well.
I want a Xenogears remaster or a remake right now. Come on Square Enix, just let Monolithsoft take the reins and make that a reality.
Plus, he kinda looks like Fei....
Rex can shred anything in seconds, but there’s something satisfying about annihilating a huge crowd of enemies with one big Power Charged Gigantic Beat
Especially on beatdrop
15:40 no apology necessary. Going in-depth on the status screen is what I crave.
I love this character with all my heart
I love playing Matthew, I maxed him out first and was wondering when you would post this
Victor's Combo + Nopon Strap
Arts for days.
Works well with his A unity to throw out as many arts as you can in as short a time as possible.
Or just use his Nikol unity to make his talent art a massive nuke.
yeah it's pretty often I can get out a unity special on the very first launch of the fight with this setup
Given how central chain attacks have been to these videos, It'd be super helpful if you could show the manuals you have equipped on other party members. Those are just as important in maximizing the chain, as any skills or equipment the individual characters have on.
You covered it a little bit in the combat video, but you didn't have access to all the options (only Bravo on A, for example), and you mention a couple here in there in the Rex video and this one, but a more specific "This is what I have on each character, and why, for maximizing " would be really helpful.
Idk if this is common knowledge but if a cancel window is large enough, you can quick move right after an art is done and mash the art and get both bonuses of the quick move and the cancel bonuses. Hope this helps!
Edit: Video proof posted in the comment thread.
If needed I can send a video to show it works.
@@cyrrus_lite2796 yes
@@brysene You need a video?
@@cyrrus_lite2796 yeah
@@brysene Just tell me where to send it and I’ll get it to you as soon as possible
I wasn't the biggest fan of either version of this class but I'll admit Matthew's Character really won me over
dude doing a backflip to dodge whilst everyone gets force-launched by the final bosses is... just cool.
@@effluxi9587 Right!?
While I didn't need to do so often, there were a couple of times I needed to farm some specific items from enemies and the Matthew and Shulk pairing helps a lot with that. Auto launch from rex on fight start into Matthew/Shulk's special, which also happens to be burst, is really nice.
I managed to cheese enough mineral darbus bones for gem and weapon upgrades that way, despite being too weak to actually beat the unique monster
Wait, you can get specials able to be immediately charged on battle start?
@@HyperLuigi37 yeah, check the video when he's in the unity menu, you'll see matthew + shulk get it 100% charged.
Unrelated but I just finished the DLC earlier tonight and omg all the goosebumps. Those credits roll hit me on a deeply emotional level and damn I love Xenoblade so much. Now it's going to be my friend's turn again whenever I re-lend him my cartridge so he can get in on it too. At least this time I didn't take 400 hours to do it!
I would like to point out it is 100% possible to cancel an art after a quick move to get both the cancel damage bonus and activate his skill. The timing is just very tight and will take some getting used to, since the window for it is near the beginning of the quick move itself and not at the end like auto attacks.
Can't wait for the Shulk guide, loved playing him this dlc
I notice in the chain attack you still use the standard healer effect to limit damage at 99%. There is a very good attack order which lets you go over 100% without finishing (so strictly better). This way you can easily get 300% turns in the chain attack
Except that Mannual lacks the Completion Bonus that drops Defence which is ehat Enel wants to do
I've had Matthew teamed up with Shulk for basically the whole game. Seeing that a number of Shulk's arts relied on getting the Awakened buff, I tried focusing on awakening him, and the only way I know how to do that is by using a Unity Combo with him in it. Max Special gauge at start of battle into early Matthew/Shulk Unity Combo gives you Awakened Shulk basically from the get-go. I can't actually tell if this is worth anything though, as I'm not sure what all of the Awakening effects are, how much they help Shulk's arts dedicated to the buff, or even how long it actually lasts. In this regard, I'm looking forward to the Shulk video to see whether or not Awakened Shulk Strats are even remotely good.
I'm currently using cancel damage up and buff power up for Shulk, he most definitely benefits from his own buffs being stronger
75% damage bonus, 25% damage reduction, 50% arts recharge, 20 second duration at base, plus the extra damage when Awakened for two of his skills 👌 Also, I believe Buff duration + Gems work but Buff power up Gems don’t.
Edit: I think Buff Power Up works on the damage bonus, but doesn’t affect the 25% DR or the recharge bonus from what I’ve read up on.
@@LAnite430 you would probably know, is buff strengthening gems additive or multiplicative?
@@ilavain I’d guess multiplicative, I’m not really a number crunching guy so not too sure lol. Usually the additive stuff is mentioned alongside “percentage points.”
sweeeet! i got done all the superbosses yesterday and so glad i didn’t neglect matthew lol. tho abassy is relatively easy compared to others (cough cough bob) that break resist can really make or break (pun intended) a clear for me as i’m grinding for accessories. once that enrage hits i gotta be launched and going into a chain attack asap but even with break brooch on both matt and shulk it just ain’t guaranteed. still hella fun to try tho
When "punching them so hard they explode" actually works.
15:17 this pairing is also excellent for grinding items bc Rex can do the instaLaunch
I have to say though, getting lucky with Nopon Strap on Matthew turns him into a break machine. Very fun, would recommend.
Really glad someone mentioned this. It feels like it absolutely stacks with Matthew's natural skill and gives him a 22% chance for free arts!
In practice, I swear it feels higher. It's very common that I'm spamming fusion combos back to back to back. I can't imagine the strap not being essential for Matthew.
You can also get a launch on one of the fusion combos
4:10 I'd like to clarify that you CAN cancel a quickmove into an art to get the cancel bonus and activate Matthew's quick move damage bonus up at the same time. If you use an art within something like 8-10 frames of doing a quickmove (accessories that make the cancel window bigger make this easier, but arent required), it'll still cancel the attack. You can use this to reposition while driving up the cancel bonuses, and if you kill an enemy, this is the only way to chain attacks from one enemy to another without waiting for a full attack animation to play out. It ends up having great synergy with his kit combined with the final skill that does a little AoE every time he quickmove cancels, since doing it for each art gives an extra 50% dmg bonus + the fixed damage from the AoE (at lv99 it does 1000 dmg).
The timing is really strict and I usually have to claw grip my controller to consistnetly do it, but it raises the skill ceiling on Matthew by a lot and makes him even more fun to play
Something to note about Matthew, as Revolt Uppercut has a cancel plus effect, I've noticed it charges his Talent art like getting Mighty Strike's frontal positional. So using two Revolt Uppercut and Mighty Strikes each, it will grant you Mighty Beat, witch has a cost of 4.
Also I believe Matthew's Victor Combo stacks with the 10% from the Nopon Strap, bringing his chance to keep an art when used to 22%. Might be an interesting build idea.
Edit: At 16:42 Enel uses Energy Revolt and it doesn't give talent gauge, so maybe its just normal Revolt Uppercut and not its off-shoots? I have no idea so more testing may be required. That or I'm high about it charging his Talent art. xP
often times I will have the talent art fill up without even doing a single auto attack past the first hit for the first cancel when I use the nopon strap. With the maxed out talent art the cycle starts all over again except now you have a bunch of fusion arts ready to go from the start. and I really like that when the skill activates you get to keep the whole fusion art.
Excellent video Enel! I was wondering if you had any tips for the grind to level 99?
Super helpful! I still don't quite understand how chain attacks and their numbers work, even after over 150 hours playing the base game and DLC. It took me long enough to learn about healers and point limits. LOL Thanks for putting in the time to make these. Can't wait to try some of this.
This actually helped me beat the final super boss.
If you have mighty boost on with the flowing gem (auto attack speed) you along with the accessory that gives additional 10% (minimum) to keep an art you can quite literally spam all his arts back to back because how fast he builds them and his talent gauge back, to the point even if an enemy resists break I can just spam it like 5 or more times in a row. Really puts rex double spinning edge spam to shame only downside of playing him like this is that he doesn't do much in chain attacks.
You can actually cancel out of a quick move when you do it right
Mighty boost (energy boost + mighty strike) for some insane talent art spamming with the permanent art recharge speed and power charge is INSANE against crowds, especially with Nikol's unity combo (THEY BROUGHT BACK KAISER ZONE?!).
Finding out this guy's name and playing through FR is definitely the highlight of my year.
Victors Combo goes really well with Nopon Strap. It was fairly consistent especially when the tanks are pretty mediocre at kerping agro and he can keep spanming evade knockback and break. Combine with the item that gives chain guage on art execution and break brooch and he provides plenty of utility. Rex already dies stupid danage as is so may as well let him handle that.
You can also use strategy manual 6 to prevent completing chain attack. So you can always use aoe power charge no matter what
but then I don't get the crit damage order unless I put it on someone else and I like all the other orders I have, probably not the best setup for max damage but the consistency is super nice
@@EnelXC ok, i have crit dmg on glimmer. I am interested in your complete setup in the end.
My 4 completionbonusses are usually -75% physical defense, crit hit dmg, charge chain attack and 30% crit. I am thinking about another -75% physical instead of 30% crit. But the crit thing has 1.5 bonus multiplier on heroic chain multiplier (strat manual 10) this might be better overall because you can use him 3-4 times during a chain attack to get 1700+ dmg ratio.
I usually go for 2 amazings in the first 2 rounds to guarantee that
All superbosses go down in 1 chainattack anyway. It’s probably irrelevant to fully minmax
Consistency is gone anyway because of something postgame😅
Marcus Damon from Digimon in a Xenoblade game in a nutshell.
You can actually get a cancel after a quick move, you just have to time it right and be quick. It helps a lot if you have a controller with back paddles to map quick move to. Soulhacker had this same mechanic.
You beat multiple super bosses and grinded to level 99, before beating the main story; all to avoid spoiling people... Respect!
Also because the postgame hero actively makes chain attacks worse
Matthew and Shulk Unity is pretty nice for farming
A suggestion: if you put an auto-balancer in Matthew his attacks can’t be evaded or blocked if he cancels them. So you can get breaks really easily if you combine it with break brooch. Gonna take away an attack buff accessory tho
Also there’s a hero manual that basically has melias affect where you can go past the 99%TP point without breaking the chain attack; I run it on glimmer so I can get an amazing every round. But ig you already have her on the defense down manual and are getting amazings anyway.
honestly quick move brings up a good question. why can't we cancel out of dodges into arts that would be sick as hell
Press zl and switch to rex
Glimmer first then rex lol
The combat in this dlc is so fun with the amount of driver combos that Going back to xenoblade 3 I'll need to replicate this xD
You CAN cancel through quick move, you just have to be really fast.
The MOMENT I saw Energy Boost + Revolt Uppercut giving an AOE Power Charge, I knew it'd be the best option lmao
I think if you run Raging Force+ Revolt Uppercut you get a launch effect. I not entirely sure.
I’m glad I watched the rex video as I was playing, would’ve had a much harder time otherwise (but got punished hard for focusing on Rex when it forces you to just play as Nicol and Glimmer)
Can't wait for shulks(or what I like to call him mr spam all my arts as fast as possible over and over again)guide.
Possibly too late for a reply but any tips for the last superboss?
The others were all very hard for me but this takes the cake. His damage fields, break resistance and his ability to due damage (and heal?) during a chain attack have me stumped. I have everything maxed but maybe my build needs work? I’m sorta following your Rex build but going for more break and base attack instead of launch.
Nvm I literally beat it on my first attempt today when I wasn’t even trying LMAO. I literally went in just wanting to see what my chain orders were a and match them up to yours.
I did not realize that toppled/launched enemies could still block.
I gave Matthew the manual that raises ally’s TP by 15 but lowers his own TP by 10 as a heroic chain effect. It’s really good because it lets me use him every turn without worrying about getting close to 100TP. Combine this with Rex having the “multiply TP by 1.5 if you’re the last attack” manual you can consistently get excellent in chain attacks from the second turn with a Rex finisher. Not only does that give dummy attack multipliers, it’s really easy to get way more TP than you could ever need. And if you switch to easy you can hit 999% without even trying because of the extra turn.
Also why do you have the Ashera effect on A? You can set her up to give an AoE attack buff with a fusion art for free because she is a healer and can’t finish
the recharge chain attack is so OP, i did manage to go up to 2300% that nuts
This guide is great and all, and basically all my setups are fully optimized and everything is 100%, the only exception being my level. Could you make a guide on the fastest way to reach level 99? It's basically my only prerequisite to the super bosses.
i might be too late at this point but overkilling superbosses gives A LOT of exp with food increasing exp gain
You gonna do a affinity growth location guide? I cant find the last one.
Have you been able to beat this boss on hard?
Can you post a build for this setup (entire team)
I totally forgot about swelling blessings buffing power charge. I did that in base game but forgot to due it in FR. Wouldve made the chains even better. Oh no big deal. Also, Matthew is one of the best xenoblade protags. He's awesome
I love that Matthew leans more Agnian with his mixed blood despite looking so much like Noah. It makes me wonder if he has a Core Crystal on his chest considering his sister does.
Considering how good both Attackers are in FR, it’s unfortunate that the Defenders weren’t that good, which is saying a lot since tanks were already relatively weak in base XC3. Both tanks have Kevesi Arts, so there’s no opportunity for Arts spam.
Letting both Attackers have Agnian Arts in FR makes it so easy for both Matthew and Rex to take aggro away from Nikol and Shulk. One of the reasons why Zephyr was an exception to the tank struggles in XC3 was because it was Agnian and had short cooldowns.
Plus, Kevesi classes sadly don’t have evasion Arts outside of Full Metal Jaguar’s kit and a couple of Soulhacker Arts. Of course, it’s for lore reasons since Evasion Arts didn’t exist in XC1 (FMJ is an XCX class), but it gives Kevesi tanks a huge disadvantage when their damage is already nerfed in XC3.
One of the combinations, Raging Uppercut I think, also has Launch, though it's not all that useful since the party already has two people with it, and you lose your universal power charge
the Mathew/Shulk Pairing is amazing as soon as you get the ungraded unity combo for 100% instead of 70% to just earily get materials and one shot everything for enemypedia and stuff. just launch burst and one shot all the trash and get lots of mats and stuff. very useful.
I'm an auto battle pleb, I like pairing Matt and Shulk for the early Unity combo. It's a burst so it gives additional loot.
I paired raging force and revolt uppercut so I can launch an enemy with an uppercut
the man full of beans
I read that with all the AoE attacks, that’s how you get Agro on Shulk…
Do you have a heroic chain and completion bonus guide? and one with their defaults without equipping a manual?
I usually have either Rex or matthew with the 150% TP increase tactics manual
One build i have is focused on art recharge.
At 20% art recharge.
You can cancel at least twice with your arts. The strat is to keep up at one art all the time with 20% art recharge.
When you get the gas going, you ALWAYS hit Mighty strike, Cancel into other arts, when mighty strike comes up, Hit Mighty Strike.
If you do this, you'll always have at least one art up. But Eventually, you'll run out of Arts to spam.
To counter act this, since you used *that* art so many times.
You Use your Talent art. Everything comes back up. And you keep the streak going.
You'll have done maybe 30 arts before the boss realizes you are a threat. I dont really time it, but you can evade their attacks with uppercut.
Matthew IS hella fun with this method. If you desire combos and cool clutch dodges, do this build
(there is an item that gives you a 10% chance to recharge art quickly. I forget where but its before The snowy area.)
3:19 I do have to say, I got his Victor's Combo with an accessory that gets 10% of the same effect, and i could combo 4 of his positional one after another.
Is the optical headband dropped by one kf the superbosses or something i cant seem to find it
Matthew has a neat kit bc he's primarily utility when controlled by AI, but once you take the reins, you can crush enemies bc you actually can Quick Move and still get a Cancel without using an accessory to extend the window, it's just really tight timing, doesnt work after the evade Art, and the controls really suck to get it consistently
Can you cover "A" Next, I've found that as long as you time Vision Right it's practically impossible to die as them, I run Evasion During Arts up, Healing by Arts up, and Fraternal Badge on them, With Gems being Tailwind, Emp. Combo and Swelling Blessing
Can you do a Location Guide for the Unlock Kits?
I really like having Matthew and Shulk teamed up so I can just launch an enemy by surprise hitting it from the side as Rex and then immediately burst them for the item drop and maybe a quick aoe kill. Also good for trying to just get a break, burst for the item drops and run on some of the super bosses. I got 6 egel horns off of Bob before I even beat him
Enel: experienced player carefully choosing the skills
Me: just getting everything to get damage
You know you're Enel pilled when both of the Future Redeemed guides so far show off the kit you already use
15:29 Did you see that if you press ZL, you have the three Unity combos in the XAB positions? You seemed like you forgot you can choose them to throw it outside your character.
Regarding that skill that adds 50% after a quickmove which is in the way of his cancelling boni: ever since playing the base game I found it soo extremely dumb that quickmove isn't cancellable of you buffer an art right before the character draws his blade again
I don’t know if I’m mistaken but if you swap the two other arts aside from boost I think you get a launch art tho I could be mistaken
No that's correct on of his fusions does create a launch art.
I don’t remember the name of the accessory but using the one that has a 10% chance of keeping the charge for the arts I’ve been spamming cancelled arts like crazy
I unity him with shulk and start a fight with rex for instant launch into aoe burst - good for those incursions
This dudes eating beans
Huh, I just realised you’re doing these specifically before beating the final boss to avoid spoilers, and that that is almost optimal because it makes chain attacks more consistent
I like Matthew, He's full of beans
15:29 I think you can also hold ZL and press B, Y, or X as needed, rather than switching to Matthew, right?
He's martial artist but with the best support art in the game
Hey guys, I'm really struggling on what to do post-story mode, anybody got ideas?
just enjoy the game lol
@@EnelXC lmao ok
Between the sheer level of spam of Backspin Punch on Matthew and Double Spinning Edge on Rex, these two attackers are veritable beyblades
(Side question here: Is there *any* way to cure debuffs in Future Redeemed? I've been looking through the arts, but I can't seem to find anything. I've been trying to fight Luminescent Bob, and he's a bloody menace. I know it's hard mode, but I feel like I should be able to beat him being 5 levels higher. )
[EDIT] Ok, between Bob, and the last Affinity Growth Kit I needed being hidden there, Gotrock Oracle Ruins is very quickly becoming the bane of my existence
I defeated it by using bind resist accessories on every characters and the accessory which allow anyone to revive downed members (used two on both of my tanks), and last the accessories allow you to refill your arts upon reviving on two healers. Basically brute forced it by swapping between A, Glimmer, and Rex
Game loop is: spam Rex until someone died, then change to A or Glimmer (ideally the latter), revive then spam healing arts, once everyone kinda top-up, swap back to Rex and spam spinning again
@@jasonseasons1192 Ah, I ended up putting sleep resist accessories (because the devs were sadists and gave Bob the ability to inflict both bind and sleep) on the healers. I still don't know where to find certain accessories, and unfortunately for me, Future Redeemed is still a bit too new for there to be a lot of guides out there (I still can't find the last affinity growth kit)
Bob is a very hard boss I have to say and level 90 Superboss is also very hard(not so mich if intend to beat only one at a time), maybe you can try to do the leviathan first then come back to Bob later
@@jasonseasons1192 The fact that you're recommending to go after the leviathon first, which is 10 levels higher, is very telling, but what is even moreso, is that fact that I couldn't beat Bob while being 5 levels higher, but I *could* beat the friggin' thunderfish being 5 levels below (albeit after a few tries)
